I found this cool neighborhood shop when I was look for a place to replace my iPhone battery. They're Apple Authorized so you're getting legit Apple service without the hassle of having to walk into an Apple Store in a crowded mall. I have an iPhone 13 mini so they didn't have my battery in stock but they were able to run the battery test and order the battery and get it within a few days. Once it was in the store, I dropped my phone off and it was ready to pick up in a few hours. I'm back to 100% battery life which is awesome! Their pricing for battery replacement was $10 more than the Apple Store but honestly for the convenience of going to a small storefront vs having to go to an Apple Store it was worth it. The store is like a modernized Radio Shack with tons of audio / video supplies. Just perusing the store I could see all kinds of turntable accessories, blank audio and video tapes, portable tape players, all kinds of Apple accessory connectors and even long forgotten formats like VHS-C tapes! The staff is welcoming and nice, the store is clean and well designed and they even have a ping pong table and a vintage video console with Street Fighter to play. Street parking nearby or there's a very small lot in the back. Buy local, keep the silver in Silver Lake. read more

Scheduled appointment and Went into store to fix my iPhone 12 mini. Cause it went to limp mode on me and I couldn't get it to turn on. They checked it out and told me it's common that sometimes just needs an update or a restore. So they tried it. And that didn't work. So they told me there technician who took a look at it said it might be the screen display which will cost me 250$ or the motherboard that would cost me 450$ Which I thought that was super pricey for being a iPhone 12 mini So I said no thanks I decided to go somewhere else and they was able to just restore the phone for me and it worked perfectly fine. I wanted to support a local business for a simple iPhone repair, but I will go to an Apple Store in the future. All I needed was a battery swap (under warranty). Before Trip #1: I confirmed that they had the 12 battery (it's a small shop), but... Trip #1: ...when I arrived for the appointment, there was no technician there. What?! Trip #2: When I came back, the technician broke the volume button. ...I'll skip over the nonsense (order part, ordered part doesn't arrive overnight, go back to pick up loaner phone, hours to restore to loaner, etc.... Trip #5!! They give me a new phone even though they told me they ordered a part! Again, what?! You'd think someone would've mentioned I was getting a new phone. Never did they apologize or say "sorry." They don't communicate well internally or customer-facing. "The same thing would've happened if you had gone to an Apple Store," a guy said this, I kid you not. I'm now restoring a new iPhone 12 on the day of international travel, after I told them on Day 1 that I would like this done well in advance of my trip. 5 trips for what should've been 1 trip for a battery swap!! *I recommend that you go to an Apple Store where there WILL be a technician for your appointment, more stocked parts and BETTER COMMUNICATION. read more

Unfortunate experience. This place has everything a bedroom producer could want, which makes it even more disappointing that the customer service is so poor. I walked in while waiting for food across the street and was met with unprovoked rudeness from the person behind the counter--so much so that even their coworker looked uncomfortable. I still bought a hard drive (a few hundred dollars' worth), but the interaction stuck with me. My friends, who witnessed the whole thing, encouraged me to return it--and I did. I told them directly: the reason was how I was treated. It's ironic. A shop that leans on "shop local" and community support should understand that its survival depends on how it treats people. If you can stomach the attitude--and the markup--you might find what you need here. But I won't be back. read more

OH MY GOD THIS PLACE IS INCREDIBLE. I recently had the very unfortunate luck of spilling water and destroying not one, but two laptops. My sister had recommended Mikey's a while ago, and they fixed my Mac laptop screen late last year. Had a great experience, but nothing of note after that experience other than a very easy, smooth alternative to going to the Apple Store. More recently, after the water spill, I realized that my Box "drive" was not syncing to my Box account - which was a huge problem because the water damage was so extensive they weren't sure if they could recover any data from my desktop. (And, of course, the Box folder didn't sync to the Cloud.) Well, they were able to get the data on my hard drive despite significant damage to my computer. And then when I couldn't find where the Box folders were syncing on the recovered external hard drive, the wonderful man at Mikey's found it for me after troubleshooting with me for about 30 minutes. I honestly cannot recommend this place enough. The people who work here are so helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. Parking is easy - they are quick and communicative. And, let's be honest, I'm just happy not to give any more of my money to Apple. read more

This is a long overdue review for Mikey's. This is a brilliant business. They have every patch cord in existence. They have vintage receivers and amplifiers and new turntables. They have cartridges/needles - not just any but brands like Ortofon that are the best. It's one stop shopping for audio geeks. Oh and they are also an official Apple service center. Last, but not least the guys behind the counter really like their job - and know their stuff. Every time I come in there I leave with exactly what I'm looking for, and the prices are fair given the quality. In an Amazon world, we need more my Mikey's.. read more

My computer crashed during the Pandemic. YIKES! I called Apple and they told me all of the Mac stores were closed. Oh no! However, this place is certified by Apple to do repairs. It's far from me. But what can I do? I drove down here to fix my computer. It's a cool little shop that also has guitars and stuff. There's not a lot of stuff to do around there as it's next to a really busy street but it's convenient. There's a big outdoor parking lot in front that is free so that makes things easy. Unfortunately, my computer was not fixable. It was an older computer. But they were very honest about it up front which I really appreciate and they did not try to push me to buy anything. I was also in and out really fast. I did not have to wait around like I would at the Apple store. I really appreciated the integrity of this place. I would definitely recommend visiting this shop for your Apple service needs. read more

I thought I had to get a brand new iMac, but Mikey's seriously saved the day. iMac was shutting off randomly so I took it in to the Apple Store and they said they fixed it. The issue persisted, took it back to the Apple store, they suggested that I get a new iMac or have to pay a ridiculous amount of money to get the computer checked out and repaired again. I found Mikey's on Yelp and took my iMac in, and got my ram replaced but the issue still persisted. When I took it back to Mikey's they did all they could to run all the tests on my iMac, while keeping me updated during the whole process. My iMac works like new now! Their prices are reasonable, and their customer service is amazing. I know they're actually trying to help me whereas, Apple store, I cannot trust they want to help me save money and fix my damaged products. The turnaround time to repair is also quick! Huge shoutout to Justin for being patient with my iMac and helping to fix the issue for GOOD! I'm so happy my iMac works without any issues now : *) TLDR; Mikeys over Apple Store anyday. read more

The customer service at Mikey's Hook Up is wildly uneven depending on who you work with. I had a wonderful interaction with Frank, a truly lovely guy who helped me restore all my software after they erased my laptop to try to solve a problem, abrupt shutdowns. He went above and beyond and wouldn't take any fee for it. I couldn't have been happier. I loved the store, its kitschy 80s vibe with Spinal Tap and Jeff Goldblum posters. I was really thrilled to be there and not in the sterile, corporate Apple Store in Glendale. I was psyched to have this new resource for all my future service needs. Then I got my computer home. Suddenly it was hard to use my "b" key... it wouldn't type. And then the key itself fell off! Same thing with f4. This is literally minutes after getting it home, a ten minute drive. I bring it back the next day and I'm helped by a different guy. No explanation or responsibility taken for the broken keys. "Sometimes they just get old," he said, which makes no sense -- the computer is ~2 years old and I had just brought it to them. He brings it in the back and his tech guy tells him they'll have to replace the whole keyboard. Fine, I accept this and agree. While trying to order the new keyboard we discover that the original problem -- abrupt shutdowns -- was still happening. So I had given them $100 to check the hardware and erase the laptop, with no result. And now I had a new problem, clearly caused by them, of these broken keys. Their solution is to replace the motherboard and the keyboard. I told them I didn't have the stamina or the confidence for all that -- it felt like groping in the dark without a clearer explanation of how, though all the hardware had passed their test, replacing the motherboard (which is a piece of hardware), was going to help. But I at least thought, I'll replace the keyboard so I can type. Except now it's taking ages for them to figure out how to switch off my "find my laptop" so they could order the keyboard. I thought I was just popping in and hoping they could snap the keys back on, and I didn't have time for an extended session. And then the guy helping me just didn't seem to know what he was doing. Finally I said, very nicely, "I'm sorry, but I don't think this is working out." That triggered him. He got really angry, slammed my laptop lid closed and shoved my iPhone toward me. He's like "Yeah, I agree. It's not working out. I think you need to go to the Apple store." Although I was the one who had been underserved, and was now being treated with rudeness, I tried to mollify him. "I'm sorry," I said. "This just isn't what I expected." He said again, louder, "Yeah, go to the Apple Store!" He was probably in his thirties but it was as if he was ten, throwing a tantrum, really petty. I'm conflict-avoidant so I left before it got any worse. I really question if he would have lost patience the same way with a guy. So here I am, with a broken laptop, out $100, and having been insulted and thrown out. I can't help but think that if I had been served by Frank, the result would have been completely different. I just thought you should know what to expect if you get the wrong staff member, have too many questions, or challenge this particular staff member, even politely. read more

When my iPhone battery got so bad I couldn't take it any longer, I girded my loins and went on the Apple website to make an appointment for a new battery. I was absolutely astounded that there was another option available to me than going to the dreaded Apple Store. Mikey's hook up, a few blocks from my house, offered me an appointment the next day. I went in, still somewhat skeptical that it was going to be some kind of ordeal and was delighted by the friendliest service and most efficient repair. My phone was ready in a barely two hours. The location was so easy with plenty of parking in a fabulous location near a record store, down the street from a Whole Foods. They had an amazing selection of audio cables and equipment, accessories for turntables and cassette players, and I'm going to have to go back to buy one of those cute mousepads that look like an oriental rug! Go there just for the fun of it, or for the easiest Iphone service imaginable! read more

Really appreciate the expertise here! The Genius Bar couldn't fix my malfunctioning external hard drive, and the Apple employee recommended I reach out to an Apple certified repair place. I was able to get an appointment at Mikey's for later that day! The tech at Mikey's quickly confirmed the Apple guy's diagnosis and explained my options. Unfortunately, they were so busy that it would've taken them two weeks to get to my drive, but the tech explained that it was a fairly simple fix, and he walked me through repairing the drive myself! I was able to get everything working and rescue my files that night. I felt so empowered! This was my second time visiting Mikey's, and both times I was deeply impressed by the employees' knowledge, their ability to communicate complex ideas, and the value and quality of the tech sold at the store. If you have an issue with an Apple device just go to the apple store. If you have an issue and you're a woman- go somewhere else. After paying $80 for a diagnostic service that would be applied to any service that needed to take place Mikey's hookup provided a quote for a service that wasn't needed. Not only did they say it would cost over $1300 to repair, once I took it to the genius bar for a second opinion Apple said that repair shouldn't cost more than $500. Mikey's hookup also said my computer wouldn't charge, though it did. Wound up just selling my computer in question back to Apple, which they said they wouldn't be able to take back if it wasn't charging. In the end, it was at a full charge and I had $250 back from Apple. That, plus a student discount was put towards a brand new computer at a lower cost than what Mikey's hookup quoted me for a service I didn't need. I contacted Mikey's hookup to let them know their prices were predatory. Now I'm in a dispute with my credit card company trying to get $80 back since it appears this company wasn't planning to help me at all and instead take advantage of me. read more

This is the third time I have been here, it has never been outstanding, just fine, it's close to my house . Yesterday I had a service repair done on my computer, I wanted a PDF receipt to give to my insurance company, I emailed and asked for one and was ignored, so I called and asked for one and was offered to be "WALKED" through the process so I could do it myself, which as it turns out I and everyone knows how to do this. I wanted to be sent a PDF of my receipt not to make my own, I just wanted a receipt which did not seem like to much to ask for a 600$ repair. He hung up on me! I called back because it seems impossible believe he would hang up on me for asking for an emailed receipt not in the body of an email for the repair, he then called me a jerk. He did finally email me a receipt in a Pdf form as requested but it had what I think is an error on it, I called him back and he told me I was a horrible, horrible person and to let that sink in. I am laughing about it now but I don't really know what to say, completely bizarre. If I could give 10 stars, I would. I second the other reviewer's ABSOLUTE JOY at never having to go to a mall Apple store, or talk to a "genius" ever again. I needed a Macbook Air battery (mine wasn't holding charge), so I was informed how to install it myself, and also purchased a 1TB La Cie hard drive to replace my 250gb dinosaur from 2013. By watching the video, I was able to do my first-time battery install, recalibrate it, and now my laptop is a thing of joy instead of a thing of frustration I want to throw across the room. Made my appt for a Saturday noon, got there early and was seen right away. Louis helped me and he was so informative and just a kind, non-condescending human being who wanted to help me solve my problem. Not the way all 'geniuses' at the Apple Store treat you.
