YIKES - with such high reviews of this newer Latin cafe, we had high hopes. We came here in the morning, and we were excited to try out their beverages and some of their items from the pastry case - we ordered: +a churro donut - where's the cinnamon? this was just a sugar crusted bread-y donut that was cold, flavorless, super dry, and inedible; this was tossed +a poblano/cheese scone - this was not even warmed up, and it was just a rock of 'bread' - no taste of cheese or the spiciness from the peppers; this was tossed +a latte with almond milk - not sure what kind of coffee they use, but this was lukewarm, extremely weak, and was unenjoyable +a Mexican hot chocolate - this was awful; seemed to be made from a generic packet of artificial-ness; in addition, the mug that it was served didn't seem to be washed, as it had a 'saliva/spit' odor to it - gross! None of the items we had ordered tasted like how they were described or were supposed to be. While the cafe itself is cute and cozy, and I loved their shelves of various figurines and collectibles that you could purchase, the food/drinks were just not worth the money nor a visit. No dice, Mil Colibris. +avoid the dried-out, flavorless pastries +avoid the beverages +street parking available in the area

Here's what you need to know: Love Mil Colibris. Perfect woman owned small business that is the cornerstone of any good neighborhood. All baked goods made freshly in house. Delicious panini sandwiches (chicken tomatillo) and quiches (chorizo). Yum! Always a delightful service experience from any member of their team. Could not ask for a better breakfast/lunch spot.

A thousand dreams, a thousand hugs, a thousand hummingbirds. -- Mil Colibris "We're devoted to making this bakery a special place: celebrating our cultures, exploring food traditions and serving as a warm hearth for our local community." This is a cute bakery/coffee shop in the Ravinia neighborhood and I want it to succeed. We enjoyed our coffee, Mexican hot chocolate, churro donut and avocado toast. It's simply decorated with a few tables, plants, inviting bakery case. My friend enjoyed their avocado toast which came with a small green salad. The churro was okay, a little dry. The scones and croissants looked very inviting. Friendly staff, they said they had been open a little over a month. Sending thoughts of hummingbirds your way.

Moldy tres leches on Monday, bought from cafe on Thursday.

Old pastries, moldy cakes, enough said. Also, gross n dirty bathroom often without soap.

This is the place we've always needed in Highland Park! Incredible conchas--seriously best I've ever had--and the breakfast burritos can be made vegetarian. So dang good. Don't sleep on the churro donuts or quiches! Iced latte is perfect every time.

I always look forward to the seasonal rotation of menu items, as I know the ingredients will be fresh and in season, and I love looking forward to new dishes. I absolutely adore Spirit Elephant and have loved making this my go-to spot in Winnetka. I have had Meet Up events, girls brunches and date nights here, and always enjoy the experience. I've honestly been here more times than I can count. My omnivore friends are always pleasantly surprised once they've been officially introduced to the magic of Spirit Elephant. I've loved watching all of the small changes over the years, and have appreciated that the quality of the food and handcrafted cocktails has never changed. I have raved of the patio in the past, but they've since done two major upgrades, and I love spending weekend afternoons with a group of friends during the warmer months on their patio even more. The staff is phenomenal, and I appreciate that I always know my server will have an excellent recommendation whenever I stop in (I mean, you truly cannot go wrong with anything that you order).

The tofu in the bao buns was so crispy and delicious that my carnivore friend said tasted just like pork belly. Having never had pork belly, I was happy that to me it tasted like tofu since I love tofu. The poke nachos were a bit spicy for me but flavorful and delicious. Again, my friend thought it really tasted like tuna. My friend wanted to split the steak which I thought wasn't their strongest dish because it tasted more processed and not like lovely tofu nor like meat. But for those who enjoy vegan steaks, it was quite flavorful and moist. The potatoes were so fluffy and crispy. But not my fav of their dishes. As always the manager, Jordan, comes by and makes us feel like VIPs, laughing and treating us like old friends. And the whole team works together smoothly. Being surrounded by plants with perfect warm lighting makes the ambiance just as wonderful as the food itself.

This was a birthday and Mother's Day dinner for six and we felt Prairie Grass would be a good place to celebrate. Good choice. Our lovely server Claire took drink orders and allowed us time to talk and enjoy each others company. We brought a bottle of wine and that was not a problem and Claire took out the cork. Everyone raved about their food. My daughter had the white fish, her sister in law had a burger, her mother in law had a nice salad, my son in law had two chicken breasts, and I shared a beet salad and the tuna entree with my wife. All delicious based on the groups comments. My tuna came with shiitake mushrooms, and we substituted wild rice for a vegetable. Excellent. There were two birthdays and our server brought two chocolate treats with candles for the two girls. I also had the Mango ice cream and a turtle candy. The turtle candy was the one weak point of the meal. As we all know, the price of dining out has truly increased and I feel you really need to get a bang for your buck at most upscale restaurants and I would consider Prairie Grass in that category. Given it was a Saturday, there was an annual art fair in the Village Green close by, and the Mother's Day weekend, we expected it to be very busy, and it was justifiable so.  There was a rather long line placing orders at the cashier, but it moved quickly.  There were many laminated menus for us to read while waiting in line.  The cashier was friendly, patient, and helpful in answering questions.  Our daughter ordered an Avocado Toast and a Berry Zen Refresher.  My husband and I found that a good idea, and each of us also ordered an Avocado Toast, although I had hoped that I got different types of dishes to photograph, lol.  Husband had a Cappuccino, and I had a large Iced Pistachio Latte (oat milk).  This simple brunch came up to $77.34 with tip, and it's worth it. All 3 Avocado Toasts were perfectly made.  All the ingredients were very fresh, although there wasn't a lot of seasoning, the taste of each ingredient worked well together to achieve a delicious dish.  I especially liked the over easy egg and the crispy edges of the warm toast.  My Iced Pistachio Latte was very good without being too sweet. Although the food and drinks were the star, the ambiance was so pleasing and relaxed that totally elevated the entire experience.  The dining room with high ceiling and chandeliers was spacious and beautiful.  There were many different types of seating for patrons -- big comfy couches, regular tables, high-tops, small booths, conference rooms with long table and chairs, small private rooms... not to mention about the large sheltered patio with many tables and seats!  As I have mentioned, we went at a busy time, there were not a lot of tables left for dining purposes, we opted for a high-top.  Even though the venue was almost filled to capacity, it still felt very airy and comfortable.  I could just chill there happily for half a day with my latte! However, there were small hiccups that fortunately did not ruin our first experience there.  My husband's and daughter's drink came out almost instantly after we sat down, but I had to chase down a staff (there's no servers except for the staff who delivered the dishes or cleaned tables) to tell him that my drink was missing.  I told him that it's supposed to be cold but with no ice.  He immediately got me a Pistachio Latte but with ice.  The cashier lady had specified no ice on when she placed the order for me, I talked to her about this and she offered to make me a new one, but I had already had a sip and didn't want to put the drink to waste, so I just kept it.  I later scooped out all the ice so that it did not dilute my drink, and it was good.  I must mention that the food came out in just 5 minutes even though the place was busy. Our high-top table wobbled when we used our knives and forks to cut the toasts, not a very big deal, but the restaurant could easily have that fixed as I am pointing it out now, It's one of the high-tops under the BB sign. This brunch kicked off a very happy Mother's Day weekend.  I was in a very good mood going to the art fair from Bean Bar.  We will definitely return to try the many other items on their menu.

Beinlich's emanated an era way back when that just doesn't exist anymore. At 7:30 pm this Saturday night this cash only place was packed to over flowing. I mean Humming like a turbine engine. It turned out to be packed on a Thursday night with a 40+ year old crowd that seemed like regulars. The ambiance was Wisconsin Super Club not "bar food" or "fast casual". My friends and I were surprised to find there was no menu - just a board showing five (yes five!) items for order. I believe they were a hamburger, a cheeseburger, a Ruben, a turkey wrap and a chicken burger. At the recommendation of our waiter, one friend and I ordered the cheeseburger and everyone else ordered something different. Prices were very reasonable - my cheeseburger with fries and a side of coleslaw was $15.99. I think I'll cut them some slack for not joining the 21st century and taking electronic payments. Bottom line was all five of us enjoyed our generously portioned food and my friends enjoyed their beers. I want to point out that even the little things were done right. The waiters worse uniforms that wouldn't look out of place at a steak house. The fries were terrific and hot, not like fast food fries. Even the coleslaw which I normally treat like a garnish for visual appeal only was delicious - flavorful and not too creamy. Well done! I will return.
