I Sued FLAVIA/ MILANO SALON and waiting court decision. I've been going to Flavia for a few years after a dear friend of mine referred her to me because her services are cheap.. It has always been a hit and Miss.Alway hours and hours of wait. very rare that I got what I visited her for from the first try. but she always tries to fix it the second time which requires another day spent at her salon. The summer of 2024, I requested as always hair botox and balayage. she /damaged/fried my hair beyond repair from inside and at the bottom ,so I didnt complain much and trimmed the end and overtime, the middle grew. After a two years absence, due to family obligations. I made an appointment last March, I went back to flavia again for a hair botox and balayage. the exact things I always request since day one. my appointment was for 9 am , I didnt get out until 3:45 pm {7hours}. During those hours, Flavia never used a timer, had her shampoo lady and her 15 yrs old son mix and apply products on my hair. I had complainted of a burning sensation on the left head side. however, I also noticed bright orange color not the copper color I asked for on my roots. which she than lifted again and again to get it gone. I had never noticed or felt the severe damage until I washed out the hair botox treatement at home on the third day as recommemded by her. This time , the hair damage is located on the top head, the only remedy is to chop off/shave completlety to start new. That was the straw that broke my back. I filled a small claim court, we appeared at court this past Friday July 31s. I am now awaiting court decision. what made me decide to write a review now after four months is her lies to the judge underoath that she's never recommeded to leave Botox hair treatment on for three days than wash. the balls on this women, lying through her breath in front of the judge about a common practice. Milano salon is like a revolving door ,she neglected to use a timer on my product, jumped from a client to another. I'm sure that there are other women out there that they didn't do anything about their bad hair results, or just maybe verbally complained about it like I did the first time. I found this amazing salon through Groupon - Flavia did an incredible full balayage with pastel pink for me that came out just exquisitely. One of the customers also had a choking episode while I was there and I watched Flavia perform the Heimlich maneuver and save the woman's life. It was unbelievable - just an incredible woman with an amazing spirit and kindness. And then she returned to work on my hair and make it just stunning, like she was unphased by the emergency she just resolved. I couldn't believe it. She's a heroine and I am grateful for her - will absolutely return and can't recommend enough! read more

Omg, I used a Groupon here for a haircut, deep conditioning and partial balayage. I got there for my appointment and the place was like 85 degrees. I waited for an HOUR before they started on my hair. They told me the appointment would take one hour; it took two. So I was there THREE HOURS total. The color of my hair turned out great and the conditioning was good, but I just got home, looked in the mirror, and my hair is about an inch shorter on one side. Totally uneven. I just wanted a simple trim. Planning to ask my teenage daughter to get out the scissors and fix it. I´m sorry, but I would never ever ever return to this place again! There was another woman there who left almost in tears with her hair still wet because she'd been there four hours and finally had to leave. If you're tempted by the Groupon, don't do it!!!! Also, I have to say the place did not seem sanitary at all. I chose to stop looking around me because I was disturbed by the clumps of hair stuck to the sink and everything looked unwashed, even the brushes had grime on them. Yikes. read more

They did an amazing job with the blowout too I left feeling beautiful on my birthday :) only small note I would say is that they were a bit rough while brushing my hair out - would have preferred they use a wide tooth comb. My friend came here after quarantine and was excited to get her hair done. She came to this place because of her friend so she thought it would be alright. wrong. Her appt. was for 2 and she wasnt seen until 3 and then when she was seen the stylist never communicated with her to understand what she wanted done and then proceeded to pull chunks of her hair out while combing it. She also left my friend in the chair after she washed it for what seemed like an hour. When it came to her finally getting her hair haircut another stylist showed up, this stylist did an amazing job but the lack of communication initially was horrible. I came to this salon with disastrous highlights I had got at an expensive salon in Boston and really unsightly roots. I had a groupon for balayage and I didn't know if it would be possible to get the natural look I wanted after my streaky highlight job. The staff here worked a miracle and blended my roots and created a perfect balayage. I am so thankful and my hair looks incredible. The place is very no frills and casual. I'm not trying to hurt a business and I really fought with myself on if I should even post because I really don't want to hurt anyone but today was the final blow. I went because they had great prices for the area and good reviews and beautiful photos. At first everything seemed fine. This was until they left me processing for over an hour to the point I fell asleep at the bowl. I was going for a lighter blonde, but my natural hair color is already a dirty blonde. Another hairstylist noticed how long I had been sitting there and opened up my foils and immediately started yelling. I I knew something had gone wrong, but I didn't realize how wrong until later. When I left my hair did look nice. The photos look great. But now it's is thin and all the blond they put in has mostly fallen out. It was damaged beyond repair. I have only ever gone to one stylist because I cared about my hair so much. I've never done anything to it at home. Always professional. My hair used to be super long and goes all the way down to my lower waist and I have not cut it short in 15 years. I have thick hair and I've always been really proud of it. It's been falling out in chunks for weeks. I called my hair stylish in my hometown and she sent me up some shampoos that have been helping but nothings is really doing the trick. It is so thin and I fear I might just have to cut it. Today while shampooing gently another chunk came out and I just started sobbing in the shower. No waiting around forever only to be rushed in and out and pay an arm and a leg for highlights and a cut like on Newbury. I did the Groupon for full balayage/conditioning/haircut. After reading the mixed reviews, I went into my appointment fully expecting horrible service and a good balayage. But I kept an open mind, and overall, I was very pleased with my experience. It's true, you don't come here to be pampered and socialize. It's a small, intimate salon and most of the staff don't speak much English. It's not organized and they'll gather around you and talk about your hair in their native language, which can be unsettling. That said, once you get past the communication barriers and tell them what you want, they'll do an excellent job on your hair. They'll make the effort to understand your vision and spend all the time needed to make you happy. Unfortunately this means you might spend half a day at the salon, but it's 100% worth it. The customer service here is awful. I booked an appointment for my mother and I and after an hour of waiting they brought my mother to wash want cut her hair. They washed her hair and left her in a corner for half an hour, then moved her to a chair and left her again. They've just started cutting her hair and I'm still here waiting for them to start with me. I honestly don't see the point of needing to book appointments if they are going to ignore them altogether. Very few of the stylist here speak English, which is a problem when you need to explain how to cut your hair or explain that there is no toilet paper in the bathroom. read more

I got here 5 minutes before my appointment time (10:30) to find the salon closed with doors locked and lights off. The salon claims to be open at 10am. Once I saw that it was closed, there was also no answer on multiple phone calls to the salon. After the 6th attempt, Flavia finally answered saying she thought the appointment was at 11, and additionally apologized that she would be running late. I was iffy about going after I read some of the reviews but I gave it a shot since I had already made a purchase through Groupon. Screw the reviews, It was amazing! Yes they aren't a 5 star high end salon but she did amazing with my hair. She took her time and made sure I was aware of how I wanted my hair throughout the process. She actually ended up staying later than usual to finish my hair because the dye wouldn't pick up on one side. This is my first time going to a different salon since I was a teenager and I want to say it's been a wonderful experience. I left very happy and my hair is exactly what I expected it to be. If you expect a chatty hairstylist whose going to ask you about your life, this is not the place for you. They do speak English but they are more comfortable chatting in their native tongue, but this didn't stop my stylist from talking to me. I also like to read and play on my phone so I wasn't bothered by the chit chat between the other guest and the stylists in their language. Best haircut of my life at this little teeny place inside Belladerm Spa. No fancy cucumber-water-and-New-Yorker-in-the-waiting-room here; it's the little one-woman-show, she-brings-in-her-dog, yellow-sink-from-the-fifties-in-the-teeny-back-hall-bathroom kind of place your mom dragged you to when you were six, which is absolutely fine with me as long as my hair looks terrific at the end. (Disclaimer: I have no idea if she really brings in her dog or even has one, that was just my imagination establishing an atmosphere.) I bought a Groupon but even cheapo me would consider going there without one and paying - get ready for it - FULL PRICE. (Gasps all 'round). That's how great this haircut looks. But, backing up a bit, I also found that I needed to call instead of email to make an appointment, but she was very flexible with times when I needed to reschedule twice. I'm pretty sure it's just this one woman working there, Flavia, but there might be another one, I'm not sure. She's really nice and listens to you carefully and asks to see pictures and then see them again if she needs to, so you know she's paying attention and trying to give you what you ask for. She cut quickly and sort of masterfully, which I wasn't really expecting - I guess because she's sweet and chattery and friendly, and for some reason you don't expect that kind of stylist to be an expert. But that is just what she is. When she fully understood what I wanted, the chatter sort of faded out and she concentrated fully on my hair, asking questions here and there and making suggestions and offering alternatives. She's truly sort of an undiscovered hair genius. (Except now I'm unmasking her and she'll get an offer to go work on Newbury Street where I can't afford her and I'll be very sad.) Anyhow, I've always been in search of a haircut that is low-maintenance, yet somehow is smooth and perfect and curves under at the ends all by itself. In short, the impossible. I told her this and she started explaining something about layers, only not long over short like I thought it would be to make it curve under but short over long? I didn't really understand it, and her English is not 100% (although she made sure she understood everything I said about my hair) but she said could do it, and darned if she didn't perform a miracle that rainy afternoon in Medford. I'm looking for a place to post a pic and don't see one, but I woke up the next morning - having not touched it AT ALL - and it CURVED UNDER BY ITSELF. I swear. If you want good customer service, friendly staff, timely service and a pampering environment then STAY CLEAR of this place. I bought a groupon for a cut and highlights- and I guess you get what you pay for. Here are the reasons why I was so dissatisfied with this place, and why I will never be returning. 1. I arrived for my appointment a few minutes early. There was no one in the salon except for one woman also in the waiting area playing on her phone. I sat and waited for 25 minutes before that woman, who I assumed was another patron, got up and headed to the back room of the salon. So she was not another patron, but an employee who did not greet me, explain someone was running late, or do anything to indicate she was working there. She then returned to the waiting area with her cell phone, and with NO indication of what she was doing, put her phone up to my ear to speak with the woman who was supposed to cut my hair. She explained she was going to be late (she was already 30+ minutes late at this point), but would be there in a few minutes. 2. She finally arrived almost an HOUR after my scheduled appointment with her son, and she took another patron who had an appointment AFTER mine, and who had arrived only about 10 minutes prior, before me. I continued to sit in the waiting area for over an hour. 3. When it was finally my turn to get into a chair, the woman working on me didn't greet me, speak to me, or do anything to make me feel comfortable. She stopped mid combing to pick up personal calls on her cell phone, and used her headphones instead of interacting with her customers. 4. When I moved to the hair washing station, the woman cutting my hair left me with my head tipped back for 20 minutes while she went on her lunch break. This is not a hypothesis, I saw her in the other room eating while I was tipped back. 5. The entire time I was getting my hair done, the woman's children were in the salon, running around, touching patrons, and playing with toys at the feet of their clients. That wouldn't be so bad, but one of them had a toy gun that shot out farting noises and was going up to every patron shooting them and making fun of them for smelling and farting. I can't make this stuff up! It was the complete opposite of a pampering experience. 6. After my hair was complete (maybe?), the woman gave me NO indication I was finished. She put the comb down and walked into another room. I had no idea if I was supposed to wait for her to return, if she wanted to say goodbye and accept a tip? It was just bizarre and rude. After a few confused moments I took off my cape and walked out. 7. The place was DIRTY. The women didn't use gloves or wash their hands in between patrons. There was hair everywhere, water stains on the ceiling, dust and grime all over. Just pretty gross. My hair turned out alright, THANKFULLY. But the experience was absolutely terrible. Wow. I've never written a negative review but I feel I need to warn others so they don't go through what I did. I found this salon on groupon because of their amazing price for a *balayage* but now I regret going at all... even though the ladies were very nice, I could tell something was wrong early on. The girl who started my color didn't seem confident and was asking a more experienced stylists for advice in Portuguese. I started to get nervous and she was doing the back so I couldn't see what she was doing. When she did a section closer to the front of my hair I realized she wasn't using the method that is important in a balayage which is combing the hair toward the root to only bleach very thin strips of the section of hair. I told her I was nervous that there would be a line parallel to my roots because she was dyeing across the entire sections. She asked the more experienced lady to come do the top of my hair and she was using the proper method but so aggressively pulling on my hair that it really hurt. Both women did not give a crap about ripping my hairs and were vicious with combs and brushes. I offered to get the knots and tangles out (which they created by not being neat with how they sectioned it off) but she kept ripping through the knots. When it was time to rinse, They didn't put a towel on my neck and I had to lean back into a sink edge that isn't stationary and kept moving up and down as I moved so my neck had zero support. They both started aggressively pulling my hair in different directions to take the foil out and kept getting wet dye on my neck and face. It started to drip down my back and make my neck itch and when I got home I realized my shirt was destroyed... they toned it twice and thank god the Groupon came with a deep condition because my hair was suffering after all that but when she blow dried my hair she called the younger lady over and was speaking Portuguese- it looked like she was showing her how she made mistakes when bleaching ‍, all the while using a terrible brush with metal bristles that were ripping my hairs again. I tipped them both relatively well and finally got out of there around 5:30pm from my 12pm appointment. When I got home I went straight to the bathroom to wash the dye off my face and neck and cried when I realized that there were splotches of darker color (from the toner, I think) along the front left section of my hair and many of the darker auburn sections of my original color (which I asked to be dyed lighter/cooler) were never colored at all and the lightened hairs looked blue from the toner so now I have red and blue streaks and blotches. I'll be spending money elsewhere to fix this because I don't want to go back there. I'm sad writing this because before the service I even offered to post a shout out on insta as a thank you but I obviously won't be doing that. Maybe i would have received better service if I was able to understand Portuguese and chime in to their conversations about my hair. read more

Flavia is GREAT! I went in today with a groupon for full highlights and a cut with faded purple dirty blonde hair. She explained she also had to do a color correction first to pull some more of the purple before bleaching (this was a very reasonable additional charge). The girl before me had come in with green hair and needed to go through the same process as well so this was Flavia's 2nd (unexpected) color correction of the day-- understandably she was busy but she worked through it and handled it like a pro. She was not only accommodating (my groupon was for highlights, but I wanted balayage) but she has a great talent for hair, knows what she is doing, and works hard. Hair cut was superb as well! Honestly, my hair came out decent but for the time and pain, not worth it. I came exactly when my appointment was to be greeted by no one, there was obviously a language barrier, no problem ! My best friend is Brazilian and she has amazing hair. Unfortunately , it was the worst hair experience . My scalp is super sensitive and I literally had head trauma by the time I left... she was so rough on my hair I wanted to at one point walk out. My hair looked nothing like the picture I showed her but the pain I endured and time was awful.... basically be ready to waste your whole day sitting in a hot salon for at least 3+ hours only to have move YouTo conclude everything, I literally set timers on my phone because she was so busy taking new clients And at one point she had 6 clients and a "non speaking assistant" That did not know what she was doing running around trying to help her out. My hair bleached for over 45+ minutes and yet she tried to argue with me that it has been less than 30 minutes because she was keeping track... what a lie, I called her out on it and she finally put the toner in. Say what you want, but I drive all the way from Andover to see Flavia. Got my daughter a groupon years ago and she was super pleased with the Keratin that straightened her curly hair. Since then my daughter Gina has referred myself, and at least seven others for Keratin from Flavia and every one has returned over and over. She does extensions for me that no one can even tell are in, and I have thin hair which is why I get them put in. So what you have to wait a bit and it takes a long time, its worth every minute! I wish I could leave a 5-star review because the reviews I read here are what led me to Milano Beauty. I bought a Groupon for full highlights and scheduled my appointment for late in December. I booked a time over the phone and the conversation seemed rushed but I figured it was the holidays and people are busy. I showed up ten minutes early and the salon looked closed at 10am. I walked in and a receptionist said hello, asked what I was there for, and then disappeared into a backroom. Twenty minutes later I was still sitting there so I said "Hello?" and when the receptionist reappeared I asked what was going on. She said Flavia was running late and was ten minutes away. That was at 10:15am. I continued to sit there and decided at 10:30am that if she was not there by 10:40am I would leave. She walked in at 10:39am. She then told me she had lost her appointment book and didn't know I was coming in that morning. So the whole "stuck in traffic" thing was a lie. I would rather someone just be honest with me from the beginning. I get that mistakes happen but keeping someone waiting 40 minutes is pretty rude. I explained what I wanted and showed her a picture. She then told me what I wanted was not realistic and I should do balayage instead to get the desired results. I trusted her based on the rave reviews others had left about her talent with color. She started working on my hair and then took a 20 minute phone call on speaker with a client while I sat in the chair. I thought I was on a hidden camera show - they were talking about personal matters and the client on the phone clearly did not know I could hear everything. She then let the color sit and came to check on me after what seemed like longer than usual. She wasn't happy and tried explaining the issue but I didn't understand what the problem was. She added more color twice. Eventually she got to the cut. She took a brief look at the photo I had brought and then spent no more than 10 minutes chopping my hair. I left with a nice style but once the curls fell it was clear that there were no true layers in my hair. The color is not even close to what I wanted and the change is barely noticeable. I bought a groupon 3 years ago and have been doing back ever since. Flavia does an amazing job. She uses a keratin product that lasts longer than the Brazilian Blowout, Aveda, and Coppola products I've paid twice as much for with subpar results.
