Milano definitely has one of the best tasting coffee in the lower mainland. I love all of their locations but I wished they were closer to me so i can go more often. The interior of the cafe is relaxing and I'd say multi purpose. You can come here to work, study, chat or just enjoy me time. The delicious coffee and banana bread are added bonus. I love how their version of the banana bread is rich in banana taste and not overly sweet. read more

Even on a weekday morning around 10AM this spot was super busy! It only has 1 long table for working so I noticed that almost all of the 2 seater tables and couches were being taken up by people on their laptops which I imagine can get annoying for people looking to enjoy their drinks with some friends. I didn't try any of their pastries because none stood out to me but for a drink I got a chai latte. It was pretty watered down and disappointing but they had quite an extensive coffee menu so I'm guessing they do a much better job with their coffee drinks. I went on two occasions and ordered the iced strawberry matcha with the apple crostata and the hot latte with a canella. The canella was definitely my favorite, it was moist and perfectly baked. The strawberry matcha was fresh and flavourful without being overly sweet. Unfortunately this cafe is not wheelchair accessible, as you need to take the stairs to enter the location. read more

There's a patio with 3 couples patio tables. There are 6 groups of tables inside for those who wants to sit for a bit. Limited to 45mins. We liked how we get to choose the espresso to use in our drinks. We ordered: - Small cappuccino (8oz - 1 shot) with Conca d'Oro (vanilla, coco notes) ($3.50) (3/5): Not much flavour in the espresso, the richness is missing from the cream. The medium costs $4.25 and it is 10oz. Why such a huge jump in price for extra 2oz without an extra shot? Not sure. - Large (one size) Turkiscle with Calabreeze (bold, dark chocolate notes) (10oz) ($5.25) (4/5): it's a cold drink. Not too sweet considering they have white and dark chocolate in there. However, we felt like it tasted like a slight fancier iced mocha from Tim Hortons. Quite hefty in price for what we tasted. Overall: The price is sorta high for the volume we get. As far as coffee shops go in Vancouver, Milano is a pretty consistent stop for me for a few reasons: 1) Spacious, plenty of seating, and a large patio for those warm, sunny days. 2) Friendly barista service. I always have a great conversation with the baristas here. 3) Strong, well made coffee. I'm a black coffee drinker 90% of the time, but on the 10% of days I choose to get a latte or americano, it's been well made here. 4) Fast, free wifi. For a remote worker, this is key, and I've never once had any issues. 5) Plenty of street parking right outside. If you're looking for a place to meet someone over coffee or get some work done with your laptop, Milano is a good spot to do that! read more

First off I want to say that the physical location and layout of this coffee shop is my absolute favourite. In the summer when the entire patio is open is unbeatable. However, everytime I come here and order a coffee I can't help but feel like the baristas are so unpleasant or lacking emotion, expression or any form of customer service skills. Great spot to meet friends for a snack or warm beverage -- or to spend time by yourself with a laptop or a book. Note that there are only electrical outlets to plug in on one side. Went on a Sunday about 11am to get some work done and was able to snag a table near the electrical outlets. Got an English breakfast tea for $3.15 and set up in a corner nook. Needed my headphones to drown out the noise distraction, as Milano does a great business and there are lots of people looking to spend time there. There was a steady flow of folks making use of their outdoor seating--even though it was a tad chilly the sun was shining. Would love to see more coffee shops in the area like Milano that make excellent use of their space, have gorgeous views of the city, and provide free unlimited wifi! read more

* Great, in theory * Ok, I love the idea of what they are trying to do here. An espresso tasting bar with 8 different types of espresso "on tap" is a wonderful idea. Particularly one that roasts the beans on site for maximum freshness. Great concept. Add in a comfortable modern decor with a view of the park across the street and the skyline and mountains behind it, and you have a winning concept. For coffee addicts/people in need of a lot of stimulation, the flight of 3 different espressos sounds like a great idea too. I tried the "La Futura" blend espresso, which was touted as having a caramel finish. Sounded good. Sadly what I received was an espresso that had not been properly made. I'm guessing they didn't tamper the coffee correctly, as it had a strong aftertaste of grounds instead of caramel. There were coffee grounds throughout the espresso, making for a very unpleasant taste and texture. Very disappointing for a place that claims to specialize in espresso. Fall arrived today with overcast Sky's and change of season cold thrown in for good measure. Instead starting the day with a mountain climbing bike ride I went for a neighbourhood walk with a coffee stop instead. Milano location is wonderful. Looking out on city park with a view of downtown with some mountain peaks in the distance. We decided to both have lattes today. Although my sense of smell is not top notch I say the drinks were very good but its Milano seating area is wonderful: simple, clean and relaxing. As I drank my latte, I scanned the Georgia Straight instead dwelling Mr Savage's feature a letter a about classic 20's female problem (let just say that 20 something men would be happy to date her) since I'm long past 20 something angst. I decided to focus my middle age angst: A review of a 4 door automobile in the front of the paper asI sipped my latte. Cycled here on my way back from Downtown - the cafe faces out onto a nice open field, which makes a refreshing change from the crazy bustle of the city! No where to park up my bike - it's currently chained up to the lamppost down the street, so I sip my latte in slight terror that it won't be there when I return! Do not order a small latte, it really is tiny, like for a little child ;) I panicked upon seeing the size of the cup, and hurriedly upgraded to a medium! It's a nice latte, a little bitter for my taste as usual. Maybe I have strange tastes, huh? "I don't want it tasting too much like coffee!!" Initially my bf and I were suppose to go to Aperture Coffee Bar but it was so full that we had to go somewhere else as a backup. Luckily, Milano Coffee was right across from where my bf parked his car so it was quite convenient and very spacious. I like how they offer both medium and dark roasts for their pour over coffee so you have the option to choose. My bf had their dark roast which had a more fruity and floral note. I normally would get dark roast but I am not a fond of fruity flavored coffee so I end up getting their medium roast which had hints of bourbon and toasty notes. Banana Bread - This was very good. It was moist, tasty and not too sweet. It had a bit of chopped up walnuts on top for added crunch. (4.5/5) Cheese Croissant - This was just okay. The outside part was crispy and flaky but the inside was surprisingly dense. It looked and tasted more like bread than a croissant. I was also expecting the inside to have a layer of cheese but there wasn't. There was a bit of cheese crusted on top but it wasn't enough to make it cheesy and good. (3/5) Overall, staff were super friendly, and environment was very homey and spacious. Their banana bread was good but I wouldn't get their croissants again. read more

Love Milano's coffee. I usually order a long pull espresso. It has very good body and I enjoy every sip. They have several espresso beans to choose from. My favourites are Conca d'oro and La Futura. My boyfriend and I usually order different coffee and taste how good they are, but also how different they taste. The place overlooks a park and it's a nice place to sit down and have coffee. I find that it's so much better to taste their coffee from a real cup rather than from a paper cup. I don't know why, but I suppose that's how we should be drinking coffee. read more

I was in Portland last year at Spella cafe. The barista there said they love Milano Roasters in Vancouver. Spella cafe is an incredibly awesome place to get perfectly pulled espressos therefore I trusted the barista's judgement. I went in on a Sunday afternoon with my boyfriend. It was foggy outside and when we walked in, it was busy but managed to get the last table. The atmosphere was cosy and the staff were friendly and said hi to us first when we sat down. I went with the raspberry mocha and the bf ordered an Americano and the espresso tasters. We also had their gluten free baked goods. I loved my raspberry mocha. It was made perfectly. I don't drink straight espresso or americanos but my boyfriend boldly said Milano's was the best Americano he's ever had. We spent the next hour sipping our drinks and playing Carcasonne. It's the perfect place to meet friends, read or work on your laptop. I'll definitely come back in the summer when the patio is open! read more

I know the roaster is borderline obsessed with coffee and knows far more about it than I ever will. Initially his enthusiasm was part of what drew me to this place. I have a friend who visits from Montreal that used to make a point of only going to Milano for her lattes whenever she was in town. She's pretty picky and as she said 'they always make them perfectly.' You may have noticed that I said 'used to' in the above paragraph. That would be because the behaviour of the roaster/manager was so ridiculous the last time we visited that we shall never return. My friend ordered her latte and when we sat down with it, she took a sip and was disappointed - the coffee was burnt and the milk was thoroughly boiled. After some coaxing from me - we had come here for their 'perfect latte', after all - she brought it up to the front and explained to them, very politely, that while she visits MIlano exclusively while in Vancouver, due to the quality, this latte had not been prepared well. The girls thanked her, the one that made it was in training and they appreciated her critique. Another coffee was made - still burnt, but not boiled, and my friend decided to leave it at that, without making further issue. Ten minutes later, the roaster approached our table, while we were mid discussion. We mistakenly assumed he was coming to be friendly and apologize or do something ordinarily expected of someone running a business. No. What he did was walk up to our table, mid discussion, look at my friend, who had had dozens of perfect lattes here without issue until that day, and say 'There was nothing wrong with that coffee. I drank it. I had the baristas drink it.' We explained to him that our reason for being there was that we *liked* the way they make their espresso beverages and that this one did not bear resemblance to their usual standard, but it became clear he was not interested in that fact at all. He then went into a ten minute rant about how nobody in North America knows how to drink coffee and if you like your latte extra hot you should order it that way (not remotely related to the issue she'd had with her coffee). From this point we were not participating in the conversation at all, merely sounding boards for his preaching about his knowledge of coffee and how nobody else knows what they were talking about. Forget the fact that we are practically regulars, that he recognized our faces from our previous visits or that this is the first time, ever, that we have returned a beverage. Launching into an unrelated, espresso-fueled tirade at a customer who clearly is uncomfortable and continuing to rant at them when they are completely silent? Unacceptable. After our ten minute educational experience, he left us alone, only to return another ten minutes later to tell us that if we ever had a problem with another beverage, we should send him an email(!?), and to rehash a few of his earlier points. Not to worry, we won't ever have another issue with Milano coffee as we will never return. read more

I really don't consider myself a connoisseur of coffee but this place brews some of the best coffee that I have ever had in the city. I came here once I realized that Turks on Commercial Drive actually brews Milano Coffee. So I wanted to come to the source itself. I had their lavender latte with their homemade walnut milk using their La Futura espresso blend. And ERMAGHERD, it was a damn good latte. The actual espresso is so floral, sweet, and complex. Am I wrong to say that the taste of it changes depending on where in your mouth that it hits? I also absolutely adore the little neighbourhood around it with a bright and grassy field, canopy of overhead trees, and panoramic view of Vancouver's skyline. I'd come back. A cute spot to grab a coffee with a STELLAR view! Popped in to have coffee with a friend this weekend and really enjoyed myself! The space is really lovely, very airy and light, with great decor. I got a decaf iced Americano and although it tasted like the shot had sat out a little too long, it was nothing that a little cream couldn't fix. It was a shame the patio was full, but also not surprising on a beautiful day! The view is majestic, the staff are pleasant enough, and the coffee was good.
