Amazing restaurant with scrumptious delicious food in downtown Gainesville. We made a reservation and enjoyed their prix fixed dinner. Started out with English pea soup with creme fraiche which was smooth, fresh and satisfying. The home made bread was fresh from the oven and tasted so. I had the stuffed quail with rye and mushroom bread pudding and apple creme fraiche which was unbelievably beautifully created with attention to detail. All the entree plates were heated and all the dessert lights have been refrigerated to perfection. Service was attentive and appropriate. Then the dessert choices of so many cheese cakes, carrot cake, coconut cake, fudge cake, German chocolate cake and more. This was such a a beautiful and memorable meal for us that we are determined to return soon.

Had a decent meal at Mildreds. The charcuterie appetizer was okay. The chicken liver mouse and sausage were delicious but the duck pate was not very good. The potato soup was okay but much you thick and the flavors that were supposed to be there from the smoked paprika oil were barely there. The duck leg was the least crispy duck leg I've ever seen. The flavor wasn't bad but it just wasn't cooked right. The coconut cream pie was also fine but not amazing. All in all I wasn't that impressed but nothing was terrible. Thus 3 stars.

This is such a hidden gem! It definitely does not look like anything special from the outside, let alone a high end restaurant. For around $40 per person, you get a 3-course meal! Everything is excellent, especially for such a low price for a "high-end" restaurant. It is very quiet inside, and there was plenty of seating. I made reservations for my anniversary, but we likely would've been sat as soon as we came in without them. The wait staff was incredible and provided us with champagne for our anniversary. I cannot say enough good things!

This is the most consistent, fresh, varied, and delicious restaurant in Gainesville. And I mean it. I've had nearly everything on the menu and have not been disappointed. And you have to try their changing daily specials. My joy is trying their soup of the day. Who knew I'd be going to a restaurant looking forward to a soup. A soup! But that's how wonderful this place is--that even the soups are exciting. For lunch you'll order at the counter but for dinner, it turns into white tablecloth with great service to match. Don't leave without trying one of the nearly dozen daily made desserts. I won't recommend any one dish over the other because I've seriously enjoyed all of them. Local ingredients! **side note: their sister restaurant is Blue Gill which is also scrumptious.

Mildred's is a great spot for date night or girls night out. Highlights include a comfortable but sophisticated atmosphere, attentive service, an excellent wine list and high-quality ingredients. The three-course menu is a great way to try the inventive combinations of flavors and is the perfect amount of food to leave you feeling full but not overwhelmed. My favorite part about Mildred's? The case filled with delectable desserts with rotating flavors. The cakes are some of the best I've had, and you'd be hard-pressed to find such a selection elsewhere in Gainesville. They are light, fluffy and not overly sweet. The ricotta cheesecake, carrot cake and chocolate coconut cake are among my top selections. I love the cakes so much that sometimes I'll stop in just to grab a slice or two to go!

What a delicious spot to dine at! We made a very short notice reservation for four, and within two hours were accommodated thanks to a kind woman on the phone. We arrived at 4:45 and were greeted by Justice, who took great care of us throughout the experience. He recommended excellent wine pairings as well as thorough details of ingredients - to which my 3 course meal was truly perfect. Can't wait to be back and enjoy a rare local restaurant in Gainesville.

Mildred's Big City Food: a Gainesville jewel or a dated experience? The positives: - Skip the meal and go directly to the desserts; the desserts are DELICIOUS! They have a Full bar, and the cocktails are excellent, which is a wonderful thing. - The food was the predictive gourmet presentation you would expect; the flavor is balanced and fresh. - The wait staff is polite, friendly, and knowledgeable. The negatives: As a whole, the vibe of Mildred's is almost a dated experience. The atmosphere is very low-key with a hint of boring. Mildred's looks just like when it was established in 1999, still trying to be a fine-dining experience, but feels somewhat vintage old diner. The food: - The dinner is a 3-Course Menu, offering "first," "second," and "third" courses. - Tried the Pâté Basque and the Crab cake for appetizers. Followed by the classic Caesar salad with real anchovies for my second, and my main dish was a forgettable Fried Pork Special. Then I had dessert, and all was forgiven. Did I mention that the desserts are amazing? Overall, quality food and service is good, but borderline on the high price tag for dinners, the location's atmosphere is outdated.

A little hidden gem in Gainesville. Had lunch with colleagues and the service was excellent! Put it on your list for your next lunch spot.

The wings were flavorful, well-seasoned, and hit the spot, and the fries were crispy and satisfying, simple but solid. That said, when my friends' seafood boils came out, wow. The smell alone was incredible rich, buttery, and seasoned perfectly. I couldn't resist trying a few bites, and I'm glad I did. The potatoes and broccoli were especially good, soaking up all that seasoning, and the seafood itself tasted fresh and well-cooked. You could tell this is really where they shine. The portions were generous, the food came out hot, and it's definitely a fun, casual spot to go with friends. The atmosphere feels laid-back and social, which makes it great for group dinners. While my non-seafood order was good, seeing (and tasting) the boils made me want to come back and try a full seafood meal next time. Overall, a solid spot with great flavor, especially if you're a seafood lover. I'd absolutely return and next time, I might just give in and get my own boil.

The parking lot can get a little hectic, especially during busy hours, but once I got inside everything moved quickly. The service was fast and I really appreciated that everything is fried fresh to order, you can taste the difference. I got the wings and shrimp combo and added hush puppies. The wing batter was amazing: not greasy, perfectly seasoned, and honestly better than Popeyes or even KFC. A lot of places give you more batter than chicken, but here the chicken was moist and a good portion. The hush puppies were also surprisingly moist and flavorful, some of the best I've had since they're usually dry elsewhere. My find and I split the order and since we eat small portion we think that was a good portion for us and also had leftovers. Everything was so good I didn't even need sauce, and I'm a sauce girl through and through. Overall, great experience and I'd definitely come back when I'm craving something fresh, crispy, and satisfying.

Gainesville Seafood, out on the Eastern end of town, is that place. It may not be the easiest spot to stumble upon, but that's part of its charm. This is the kind of hidden gem that loyal regulars keep quietly to themselves, the sort of place that feels like a reward for those willing to seek it out. The atmosphere is relaxed and unpretentious, the kind of no-frills setting that lets the food do all the talking. I went for a seafood platter, which was shrimp and fish with fries. They have a variety of different kinds of fish available that you can pick from, which is a nice touch. It gives the meal a sense of personalization that you don't always find at casual seafood spots. I went with the flounder, and it turned out to be an easy choice to feel good about. The platter was generously portioned, the kind of meal that leaves you satisfied without the need to contemplate dessert. All of it was excellent. The flounder was light and flaky on the inside, with a crisp golden crust that had clearly seen well-seasoned oil and confident hands in the kitchen. The shrimp were equally well-executed. They were plump, tender, and fried just right, without any of the rubbery disappointment that lesser seafood joints often deliver. Even the fries held their own, providing a solid, starchy counterpoint to all that seafood goodness. The wait wasn't at all bad either, which is worth mentioning because a place this good can often mean a crowd. Service was attentive without being overbearing, and the whole experience moved at a comfortable, easy pace. Whether you're a Gainesville local or just passing through, Gainesville Seafood is the kind of place worth going a little out of your way for, and once you've been, you'll understand why people keep coming back.
