A great spot for a quick lunch at very affordable price. The server is cheerful and makes us feel welcome. It's like going to grandma's house. Foods are tasty. Our visit to Mildred's in Ardmore was very disappointing this week. There has always seemed to be a problem with consistency of the foods there. Sometimes we go in the chicken is delicious and sometimes we go it is not very good mostly due to being overcooked. This week was no exception the chicken was totally inedible, the salad bar featured yellow lettuce, the corn had a very funky taste, and the casseroles that were left on the food bar had been picked over and literally looked like vomit in a tray. I know they can do better but certainly this was not a day that they did. What brought to the attention of the management it did not see to be a concern. read more

This place is always crowded, especially around dinner time. It's a local family restaurant where everyone seems to know everyone. We just moved to Ardmore and this is a great place to grab a "home cooked meal." They typically have two to three main dishes like friend chicken and fish along with four traditional sides such as mash potatoes, vegetables, beans, and a salad bar. They also have desserts like ice cream and pudding. It's your typical all you can eat. Some foods are better than others. Their fried chicken tastes very homemade while some of their vegetables you can tell came from a can. The staff their is super friendly and we always enjoy eating at Mildred's. read more

I enjoyed our stop at Mildreds. Down home cooking and a buffet to boot. Tonight the buffet offered country style breakfast for dinner. Niki loves breakfast for dinner so she was psyched. If you could dream it they had it and it was all so good. Biscuits and gravy, bacon, sausage, potatoes, peach cobbler, several salads, cheesy hash Browns, ice cream, and the list goes on and on. Lunch buffet with fried chicken, collards, Mac and cheese, and tons of more options. It's good, it's good like grandmas kitchen on a Sunday after church but without the clean up. If you get there early you won't have to wait for a seat however they will not seat you until your entire party has arrived. The city ham is really good on a yeast roll if you like that kind of thing (I love it) and the chicken and dressing is just like my mamaw makes. Fried chicken is where it's at, super crunchy on the outside and juicy/moist on the inside. The Mac and cheese is creamy and cheesy. The greens (collards or turnips) are so delicious. They have an amazing salad bar as well, and about two hot desserts and ice cream(soft serve). Overall this place is great, if you are passing on I-65 and get off at the Ardmore exit and want some country cooking check it out. Or if you are within a 30-45 min drive from Ardmore definitely check it out. You won't regret it! read more

Mildred's has very good southern cooking in a nice atmosphere. Relax and enjoy all the options. I do enjoy the fried chicken (something I don't normally eat) and the sides are mostly traditional and take me back to earlier days. Now, if only they would offer a Breakfast Buffet on the weekends. read more

I am not from the south. I grew up in the mid west and live in the western US. I have always wanted to experience the "Southern Cooking" everyone talks about. I was just driving back to Nashville and happened upon Mildred's on the way and stopped in for lunch. It was the best meal I think I have ever had. The fried chicken was out of this world. Everything was amazing. It is possibly the best meal I have ever had. And what was even more unbelievable was the whole meal was under $14.00. Proving that just because it costs a lot, doesn't make it any better. read more

I am not a fan of buffets. Generally I stay far away from buffets. We rolled in to Mildred ' s and I was expecting to order off the menu, however when we got there, a patron next to us heard me asking about the buffet. He said to us, there are 4 types of pork on the buffet, you can't beat that. I was sold. Tonight was breakfast for dinner. Fried chicken, bacon, sausage, city ham and country ham, plus eggs, gravy, biscuits, fried apples and the best hash brown casserole I have ever had. (Sorry mom.) Then the other patron turns to me and asked if I tried the chocolate gravy. The what?!? No seriously, this is like a warm chocolate pudding like gravy that you put on biscuits. It was good. Strange but good. Overall, the service was good, the food was really good and the bathroom was clean-- this is important on a road trip. Stop by for some southern home cooking. read more

My boyfriend and I have been living up North for the past few months and came down to visit family. We were starved for southern style cooking and this place hit the spot. Fried catfish, chicken, green beans, mac and cheese, rolls, and peach cobbler... Everything was so so good. Constant refills on the sweet tea (Oh how I've missed sweet tea) and friendly service. Love a southern style buffet and this was constantly being filled with food fresh from the kitchen. We'll definitely be back! Thank you for great food and great service! read more

Great service! Friendly and helpful staff. Awesome fried catfish and chicken. Very extensive selection usually 4 or more meats. Several selections for vegetables usually 2 different breads and good salad bar. Pretty good deserts and ice cream. Food bar is constantly being refilled with fresh items especially since place is very very busy. Prices are also very good. read more

We stopped in off the interstate, Sunday at a few minutes past noon. Rush hour at Mildred's. Because of traveling we got our food to go. The food was fresh and hot. The food was great! Home-cooked, Southern with all the fixings. After we checked out and I asked for silverware/ napkins we were told they were out. This was a disappointment just because it meant adding additional stops to our trip. I am bringing it up to hopefully bring attention to the owners to save others travelers the hassle. read more

It was after 1pm with the parking lot packed. ...and there were seven state trooper cars in the parking lot. What better prima facie evidence could there be that the food was good? I walked in, was directed to a table. I sat down and told my server that this was my first time there. People at THREE different tables told me what I needed to eat. The fried chicken and the fried pork chops were amazing. I was underwhelmed by the chicken and dumplings. The veggies were fresh. ...and that house made banana pudding, tho. That stole the show. My meal, including drink came to just over $10. I'm up that way about once a month. I'm going back. read more

We stopped here on our way to Nashville. The building calls you from the road and really hints at some good country cooking. Full parking lot is always a good sign too. This is a small country buffet. It looks like the menu items change daily. We had chicken and dumplings, fried chicken, ham, coleslaw, catfish, pulled pork and so much more. Grabbed a little of everything but the chicken and dumplings were our favorite. Every staff member we encountered was very friendly. Not too far for us to come back another time. Absolutely loved and devoured these. The crunch on the croquette was to die for, topped with a refreshing crab salad, perfect. For my entree, I had the lamb rack with house potatoes & broccolini. My boyfriend had the blackened catfish with the grits. Both dishes were phenomenal . To finish up we tried their new chocolate strawberry bread pudding, so rich and delicious. This restaurant is quickly becoming one of my favorite spots in Northern Alabama. Go give them a try! We'll 100% be back.

When we moved into Alabama visited Mildred's some of the best fried chicken and southern Buffett that greeted my Wife and I . That was about a year ago . Paid a visit on Saturday before Father's Day what a disappointment. Some of the worst tasting fried chicken we've eaten. Salty no crisp, just plain inedible, with fixin's that were the same. They must have dumped the bags of salt in instead of the flavor. And how can you mess up cornbread a staple of southern cooking no taste and I mean liters of taste. I've used a box of cornbread mix myself and it came out better. Informed the cashier told me she was sorry will inform the cook on the salt content but that's is far as it got. I'm still having heartburn from this afternoon and it's now Midnight. Hands down the worst fried chicken and southern buffet we've had the displeasure of dining. I finally tried Mildred's here in town this friday. I really enjoyed the whole catfish. And the banana pudding was real and very good. As to the rest it was barely warm and seemed like it had been cooked for quite a while. I read many good reviews, but I have to say I was disappointed. read more

It is very clear on the menu and my wife confirmed this with a server. Everywhere we looked there seemed to be people doing multiple trips so that was kind of weird. It was very hot inside - not sure if the AC was on the fritz or they were just catering to the older crowd but everyone in my party commented on it. Wife and kids got the food bar and I ordered a club sandwich off the menu. They serve Pepsi products here. My wife was pretty happy that they had turkey, fried chicken and ham available plus a lot of the usual southern food sides available (rolls, corn, green beans, cornbread, stuffing, Mac and cheese, mashed potatoes etc). They want everyone visiting the food bar to wear gloves while serving food which is weird but I'm fine with that. There was one server for our entire side of the restaurant and I feel like she did a good job and was hustling- she served food poured drinks and bussed tables. The food... the food was below average. Just going to be honest here. The fried chicken had a very good breading that was pretty salty. The rest of the food was extremely bland and lacked flavor. All of the negative reviews for this restaurant usually point this out. They have a very loyal crowd of regulars it seems, but the food was bland. The mashed potatoes was bland and was the consistency of powdered potatoes. Idahoan instant mashed potatoes beat these easily. Mac n cheese was ho-hum, turkey was bland, etc. The wild rice was awful and lacked any sort of salt or.flavor. The corn bread is the unsweetened variety that is super dry. Honestly the only good thing we had was the fried chicken. My club was OK. They had a lot of meat in it, but the meat was hot which was unexpected. It looked good and had bacon which was nice, just tasted plain to me. I will probably come back and give it another shot someday, but honestly it feels like mostly institutional food in a hot restaurant with odd rules.
