We used Yelp to locate a restaurant as we were traveling and saw the ratings and headed straight to Mildred's. The Ratings were Spot On!!! Worth the 20 minute wait on the short 4 hours they open on Sunday. Apparently the locals (within 50 miles based on the porch talk during the wait) don't miss the chance and welcome the quick turn around for this Southern Grandma's Sunday Dinner establishment. Great Service, Clean Environment, and Delicious Country Food from the fried chicken, real mashed potatoes, homemade Mac and cheese, greens, cornbread dressing, meatloaf, and Cooked Banana Pudding- this ain't from a can and the meringue was crisp and warm!! Found this wonderful family restaurant on a recent trip. So glad we did. From the moment we pulled in we knew we were in for an amazing meal Wrap around welcoming porch beautiful flowers made it like we were not at a restaurant but pulling into home. We are from Nashville, traveling back from visit to Huntsville. I opted to take the back roads for our drive on this lovely afternoon. The weather was lovely and I was looking for a place to eat lunch. I didn't want a chain restaurant, I wanted somewhere that we don't have in Nashville. I love trying new places. I just entered the Ardmore city limits when I saw the sign for "MILDRED'S"...so I asked my hubby and daughter...want to try this place? It looked so inviting. So lovely outside and the parking lot was busy...so hey, the locals eat here..must be good !!! We were greeted immediately and seated towards the back near the fireplace. The waitress took our drink order ...three Southern Sweet Iced tea with lemon...we looked at the menu, asked the friendly waitress about the specials.."prime rib, oysters, rib eye" all sounded great but the Buffet was only $8 for all you can eat and it looked awesome..so we all three opted for the buffet. I opted for Fried Chicken, fried okra, cole slaw, a dab of Mashed potatoes, Mac n Cheese, Green beans, hot buttered roll and some rice...OMG..it was so delicious!!!! I had to go back for more Green beans and Mac n Cheese...great food...Tony got some bread pudding and peach cobbler...and I had to grab a bite...great food !!! Noel got some fried apples and vanilla ice cream...it was good too!!! And the price...less than $30 with taxes, and I left her a $5 tip..she was awesome..friendly and quick on the iced tea refills....Great restaurant !! I would eat here again!!!! read more

If you're headed down the interstate, searching for a place that isn't McDonald's or Subway, and you're wondering whether it's worth gettin' off the beaten path for Mildred's? It is. We had to drive a few miles, through Ardmore Tennabama to find Mildred's. Just when we thought we had gone too far, there it was. The building and parking lot were inviting. Inside, the staff is friendly and will quickly seat you. They have a menu that you can order from, but why? Just get the buffet. It's filled with home cookin' and worth every cent of the $9 price tag. (As the gentleman at the next table astutely notes, it had four kinds of pork, so how can you go wrong?) The buffet price even includes a tea or coffee. I sprung for a Pepsi, though. At 5:30pm, the majority of the buffet items were breakfast-for-dinner. But there was also fried chicken, creamed corn, and green beans. On top of that, I added some bacon, fried potato slices, country ham and cheesy potato casserole. God help me, but that casserole is better than my mama's. The biscuits proved to be a better choice than the cornbread, but I'm not the biggest fan of cornbread anyway. I went back for seconds, where I discovered that my eyes were bigger than my stomach. With food like this, I wish I'd had room for thirds. I did save a little room for a small bowl of soft serve ice cream. Then my wife made me try the "chocolate gravy" on a bite of biscuit. Apparently that's a thing. I doubt I'll ever get a chance to eat at Mildred's again, since we were just passing through. But if I did, I wouldn't hesitate. read more

I haven't been here in a long time because I live in Madison. Sometimes you just have to have down home cooking. My advice is to come here. Everything reminds me of my Mom's cooking. The fried chicken was a little salty but still juicy and everything else was wonderful. That's just my taste. That's the only reason they didn't get 5 stars. Holy cow. Wow. Mildred's is insanely good. I recommend the buffet--8 dollars per person for all you can eat with a tea and endless salad bar included. There were about 15 different sides, and three meats (fried chicken, fried catfish, and pulled pork). The salad bar was stocked with surprisingly fresh lettuce. Everything we ate was absolutely wonderful except for perhaps the cornbread--but my family cooks cornbread different than most. The fried green tomatoes were lauded as some of the best my mother had ever had. The rolls seemed to be glazed with honey and were fluffy and delicious and paired well with the fried chicken. The hush puppies were sweet and crunchy. The Mac and cheese was a little soft but very creamy. There were fresh green beans, pintos, collards, and more. The ambiance was adorable, a mix of log cabin and down-home, and the service was quite nice. Go, go, go! read more

UPDATED FROM AUG 2018 (2 STARS). Today, I went to Mildred's for the lunch buffet. They have a new cook! The service has always been excellent. The food was wonderful!! Beautifully cooked catfish filets, meat loaf, cornbread dressing, Mac & cheese. Yummy fried cabbage, real cornbread, proper hush puppies, yams to die for, green bean casserole, other delish veggies & breads! Same fresh salad bar. Great cook!! Ok, I have to give an update. We've given Mildred's a couple of more trys and clearly, my first experience was an anomaly or more precisely based on timing. Mildred's doesn't handle large rushes of patrons very well; most places don't. Go there on a weeknight and the food and service are excellent. But again, the layout of the buffet line causes a bit of chaos in folks trying to vy for their subsequent helpings. However, the food more than makes up for this minor inconvenience. They also could step up their maintenance of the bar, i.e. wipe spills and rescue submerged serving utensils, etc. read more

Absolutely the worse excuse for a seafood buffet I have ever seen! Was told they had a good seafood buffet on Friday and Saturday. Went today (Saturday) at 4:15. Their "seafood" buffet consisted of catfish filet's (no whole catfish), very, and I do mean very, small fried shrimp, salmon patty, and something else fried that I have no idea what is was. And the cost? $33.25 for two, excluding tip. Now they did have vegetables; salad bar, fried chicken, pulled pork bbq. But........went there for the seafood bar. The other thing that upset me is if you call during the week they have a recording that tells you what is on the buffet, they give you the cost and make the comment that coffee and tea are included in the cost. Not on the weekend; that was an extra charge. I asked why not whole catfish. Answer I received was that their supplier was out of them. Bull. They need to find a new supplier. I know of several more seafood places near me that always, repeat, always have whole catfish. Questions: Why such small shrimp? Why no "peel it yourself" shrimp? Why no stuffed crab? Why no crab cakes?Why no broiled or grilled fish? And I could go on. In summary; never, ever will I go there again. Never, ever would I recommend it, even to my worse enemy. My wife and I drove up from Athens to try this restaurant. I wish we'd stayed home. So called seafood buffet was catfish fillets (good) whole catfish (over cooked). Frozen breaded shrimp(yuck), and frozen breaded clams( yuck). The hush puppies were way over cooked. The down home vegetables were canned and not " home" cooked. But what really got me was the so called bbq ribs, baked and or boiled with very little sauce, ugh! Normally BBQ ribs mean that the ribs were near a fire or charcoal but no, not these ribs. My wife shrugged and said that she'd try the cobbler, it was horrible biscuits swimming in strawberry jam, ugh! And all that for nearly $30. Bucks. Never again! read more

First time here, I got the buffet. LOVE the rolls and they keep em' coming hot! I wouldn't necessarily come here often, but occasionally southern comfort food is awesome! First time trying "fried green tomatoes" which I saw a few other reviews about- they ARE good. Place has a family style cabin feel inside, employees are friendly. I just wish there were napkins by the plates bc they stack them upside down so when you grab one it's still wet/ might have some debris on it, guess that's just what comes with buffet style (haven't been to one in awhile) too full for dessert, tho they have a decent selection- will try next time. read more

SHAZAAM! Driving from Huntsville to Kentucky I spotted the " Voted one of the top 20 buffets in America" on the sign. Drove past the parking lot before I could mentally process the claim. Thank you for the use of the church parking lot a few hundred yards down the road that provided a redirection of my journey. Parking lot had many cars in it, good sign . Waited about 5 seconds to be seated by a sweet young lady. Did a quick recon of the buffet table and it was game on. All I can say is after my first plate (yes, a second plate was necessary to complete my research) I started looking for my Grandma hiding in the kitchen. I tried everything except the salad bar - actually I did try the coleslaw and I'm glad I did. No need to use a lot of adjectives to describe how good the food was, Wow! about sums it up. Oh, and my glass of syrup sweet tea never got more than an inch below the rim - service was great! If you want to know what's on the buffet - do your own research and stop in this place. (Or look at the pictures folks have posted). You will not find a better meal at a better value on the planet. $8 and some change gets you back out the door, but leave a nice tip for the young ladies working the dining room keeping your tea glass full. read more

We were coming back from St. Louis and remembered my sister in law recommended thIs place. We decided to stop for dinner. The building on the outside is welcoming but the inside was beautiful with the wood finish everywhere. The staff was super friendly and helpful. It is a buffet and it is delicious. The fish is some of the best I have ever eaten. It was a so good we went back with my sisters. The place is busy but the tables are not so close together that you feel like you are eating with your neighbors. Do yourself a favor and try the ice cream. It tastes like homemade. Lemme start with the good good. i ate here two days before Thanksgiving--which is my FAVORITE holiday with so many of my favorite foods--and I am STILL thinking about Ms. Mildred's fried chicken. Succulent. Juicy. Crispy. Seasoned. Scrumptious. My second favorite thing? The service. Immediately greeted with a warmth usually reserved for family. Yes I know we're in the South and naw I ain't forgot my Southern roots, but in today's side-eyeing times it's a downright pleasantry to be greeted not as a stranger but as a much loved guest in need of good cookin'. Plus, my glass o' sweet tea was NEVUH depleted. Nary a sip went by without a top-off. And not a top-off a la "let me keep this heffa's glass full in case she's one of THOSE" top-off. No. These top-offs are poured with "apart from filling yo' belly with all of this deliciousness, we don't want you to have to lift a single finger" love. Third. $8 per person. I knew I'd been living up North for too long when I only paid $32 for my family of 4 to FILL OUR BELLIES, but hursh! Fourth. The buffet: fresh, full and fulla fixin's! Y'all know I'm greedy so I tried a li'l bit of everything--from fixin's to main meats to desserts. And bless my soul--that peach cobbler made a girl weak in the knees and instantly grateful for stretchy jeans! Leave room for the cobbler y'all! My mom and sis partook of the salad bar. Notably they're not stingy with the prep--toppings like green peppers and tomatoes were real slices in biteful chunks. Like you had to cut that salad to eat it. It filled up the bowl with bounty. Y'all fidna have me go to church on here. You ain't ready.
