An unexpected breakfast treat. We arrived to Idlewild the evening before on a Tuesday. We found out that most of the downtown area is closed down and I was hungry. We found the MileHigh Cafe. What a culinary treat. My wife had the avocado toast with her fluffy eggs. They gave a ample serving of avocado, which is unusual. The eggs were prepared the way she likes them and the coffee was fresh great flavor and strong I had eggs Benedict wow the sauce for the eggs Benedict is made from scratch the Canadian bacon it was real, I did help my wife eat a good portion of her sourdough bread . the greatest treat was having homemade strawberry jam presented The whole meal was wonderful and the atmosphere open clean and inviting. unexpected experience and I look forward to going back there. read more

A must come for breakfast in Idyllwild. The corned beef hash was excellent- in my top 3 if not THE best corned beef I've ever had. Homemade, juicy, and they do not skimp on the protein portion which is so hard to find! Breakfast Potatoes were perfectly crunchy, eggs are fresh and cooked to perfection. Our daughter got the kids smiley face pancake with bananas and was elated when it arrived. $6 is a great price for kids breakfast. Coffee was fresh! Service was also excellent- stopped by often to see what we needed and how we were going. Super friendly, felt like we've been coming for ages. On recent visits to Idyllwild , I have eaten at the Mile High Café 3 times and the food and service was always wonderful. It is a warm and friendly spot with plenty of seating when we visited. Some of the standouts were the Reuben sandwich, the fried rice, the Omurice (Japanese omelette) orange chicken, the Loco Moco, onion rings, and extremely spicy Chicken on Fire. I was impressed with the overall freshness and quality of the food and also the service. Victoria, Ruby and Nam make the place very inviting and somewhere one would want to return. Idyllwild has recently become my new favorite place and part of that reason is because of this wonderful eating establishment. read more

We originally stopped by Alpaca Coffee but found out they don't serve breakfast. Luckily, Mile High Cafe shares the same space so we decided to give it a try and ended up dining here twice during our trip. It's super convenient just a quick 4 minute walk from our Airbnb. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating and the space is clean, relaxed, and welcoming. The menu has a little something for everyone but what stood out to me was the subtle Asian influence. The owner is Korean, and you can definitely see that touch in some of the offerings. We even bought her homemade kimchi which was a nice surprise. It looks like they also offer kimchi making classes which is unique and not something you see at your typical breakfast spot. Service was friendly, the vibe was easygoing, and overall it felt like a refreshing change from the usual mountain town breakfast places. We'll definitely be back next time we're in Idyllwild. read more

I consider myself a Country fried steak connoisseur and oh man Delicious flavor, crunchy, juicy and delicious homemade gravy. You can tell this restaurant works because the owner is present and her hands everywhere. From making sure the wood fire stove was maintained to having the chef remake my husband's sausage before it left the kitchen because she said it was too dry. I am truly delighted every time I visit Mile High Cafe, which is hands-down one of my favorite spots in Idyllwild! It is (conveniently) located right next to Alpaca Coffee and my usual flow is to grab a bite to eat at Mile High then walk on over to Alpaca to grab a chaggaccino to go. I've tried many of the menu options, which include both brunch/lunch classics, as well as a few Korean fusion dishes. I HIGHLY recommend the chicken on fire, the tuna melt, the kimchi Bloody Mary, and the teriyaki tofu. This time around, I gave the beef bulgogi with fried rice a try and it was SO delicious. I loved the flavor of the marinated beef, which flowed harmoniously with the pan fried glass noodles. I also ordered a side of the house made kimchi, which complimented the flavors of the beef bulgogi as well. This is a 5-star kinda spot! The only downside I experienced this time around was the timing of our meals coming it. We waited around 50 minutes, which is pretty unusual, as all other times I've visited, orders have come out pretty quick. I assume there must've been some understaffing in the kitchen. No biggie, I'm not mad about it. I came in for the Korean BBQ Galbi & it did not disappoint. The Asian fusion breakfast is a VIBE. My fiancè tried their bulgogi breakfast burrito & I had a bite of it. It was absolutely delicious. The potatoes that come with it were nice, crispy & flavorful. Best potatoes I've had on the mountain. Back to my Galbi dish. Since I came in after 11am, I had the option to do lunch & I went with the fried rice side. The additional option of having your fried rice cooked in butter and homemade kimchi is absolutely worth it. The Galbi is served in a cast iron sizzling plate. The meat itself was so tender & delicious. What an experience! And now to the Service. Everyone who works here is so happy & extremely kind. They have a diverse menu and lots of things with Korean flavors. The kimchi grilled cheese was delicious and the bibimbop was tasty. Memories of "Idyllewild" where I visited to attend the film festival. I was amazed by the "Idyllwild International Festival of Cinema 2026" a large film festival held in a small mountain town. They don't have more staff then they overwork their servers and you can tell the lead Asian lady gets upset and its not the servers fault for running around like crazy. We came to the Mile High Cafe for breakfast both days we stayed in Idyllwild and ordered the exact same things both times (creatures of habit haha). The vibe is homey and has some beautiful art pieces on the walls with an impressive plant display. Breakfast was delicious and you can grab your coffee or matcha order at the attached Alpaca Coffee. I would say overall this breakfast joint is very average and there are likely some better spots to check out in town.. It did seem like there were tons of great choices on the menu but the food turned out to be very very mid. My friend had the special - banana pancakes, which weren't actually banana pancakes but pancakes with bananas on top. Also, no real maple syrup available :( I had the Korean pancake which was really just a below average scallion pancake - nothing special. Service also wasn't the friendliest.. especially compared to how friendly everyone else in town had been so far! The best place about this restaurant is the coffee shop it's attached to (Alpaca Coffee) and the ample table space/AC to escape the heat. We got an Air BnB for the Thanksgiving weekend up in Pine Cove. Looked up restaurants in the Village in Idyllwild on Yelp. Mile High Cafe had a good rating, especially from the locals. We shared the Beef Bulgogi, chicken strips and fries, egg rolls, onion rings, and one of the best bowls of smoked brisket chili I have ever had. Whoever was doing the frying was using magic, the onion rings, egg rolls, and chicken strips were battered and fried perfectly! The service was great, our little dog was welcomed by the owner on the patio, the beer was cold, and the service was attentive, polite, and the servers all seemed happy. stopped by with my fiancé so we could grab some breakfast, we originally came here for the coffee shop next door but decided to check it out. what makes this a 3 star for me was an incident that occurred. we were already seated & took our order and randomly the manager came by and asked if she could take my fiancés seat he was sitting in for another table. We were sitting in the corner with the padded seats which I understand if maybe it didn't belong there but it was not that packed that she had to take the chair he was sitting on. There was plenty of seats available that she could've grabbed. It just felt rude to me. Aside from that, I ordered the country fried steak and got a pancake instead of potatoes ($2 extra). My date and I went to the Mile High Cafe in the Winter of 2024. The experience is charming, there is a lot of local art on the walls, and I still remember the murals. This is an Asian fusion breakfast place, and does quite well in every aspect. The service was excellent, though the food didn't especially blow me away. It's a solid spot. We have have pretty high standards when it comes to food and we all absolutely love this place. Our personal favorite things: 1. Fresh Squeezed Orange Juice! So refreshing and delicious! 2. Amazing regular brewed coffee. Doesn't even need cream or sugar but love the fact they actually give you real cream from the fridge and not nasty little coffee mate singles. 3. Grass fed burgers cooked to perfection! My wife loves this here, she gets them lettuce wrapped to avoid gluten. 4. My personal favorite, the Mile High Corned Beef Breakfast Plate. I am literally smiling the entire time I eat it. It's been 4 years since I had it and I have been waiting to have it again. Lol. It was better than I remembered. I think it might be my all time favorite breakfast plate and I've lived in OC with some pretty amazing restaurants my whole life. Our first drive to this cute country mountain top and we stopped here for a late lunch. Nam (I hope I spelled her name correctly) believe the owner an adorable Korean lady who has been a long time resident of Idyllwild greeted us and took our order. My daughter and I shared Beef bulgogi with sautéed mushroom, onions with broccoli with side of fried rice as I bought a side of kimchi and side of seasoned fries. Before hand we bought their matcha iced latte for my daughter and I tried their mushroom coffee called chaacango which was amazing . Overall everything was amazing the drinks at their cafe , the customer service as Nam and I spoke of Hawai'i (I motivated her to visit this Xmas season) . To the quaint seating outside we could have our furbaby. I highly recommend this place with a nice selection of Korean favorite . Definitely will be returning . read more
