This was our 2nd ride up to Idyllwild and the 2nd time we've stopped into Red Kettle for breakfast. Can't remember what I ordered on the previous visit (it was delicious), but this time I had the Egg & Sausage Patty Combo (with hash browns, english muffin and coffee). Another delicious meal, great service and nice mountain atmosphere.
The ambience is very much like a diner, but super friendly. Service was amazing and the recommendations that our waitress gave us were all spot on! Kids 1 egg breakfast: we got the scrambled eggs for this and it came out as a huge portion. More like three scrambled eggs. Prepared well, not very salty. Probably could've used a little extra salt. But I appreciated being able to do it to taste. Also comes w choice of bacon or sausage, and then choice of either fruit or potato item, and also a choice of bread item. Amazing value 5/5 The hollandaise on the Benedict was to die for her. I felt like the hashbrowns had a little bit of like a bacon fat type of taste to them? Maybe other people like them they were very crispy, but I didn't like something about the agent the hashbrowns were cooked in. One of the best pancakes (ordered as a side) that I've ever eaten in my life. The biscuit was also decent but doesn't come out hot. It's very fluffy. Not like a homestyle/Super buttery type of biscuit.
Amazing food and even better people! My wife and I stopped at Red Kettle during our Idyllwild getaway, and everything was delicious--from the country fried steak and tuna sandwich to the fresh fruit cup. You can tell they really care about their food. But what made our visit truly special was Jennifer and Lindsay. After learning we were celebrating my wife's birthday, they surprised her with a muffin and sang Happy Birthday to her! That unexpected kindness meant so much to us and made an already great breakfast into a memory we'll take home with us. Great food, wonderful staff, and genuine hospitality. We absolutely recommend Red Kettle!
Red Kettle was a staple for my Idyllwild trips growing up, and I was thrilled to bring my best friend during her first visit. It's just as cozy as I remember! Honestly I think this trip was blessed because I magically got a parking spot out front and despite expecting that we would have to wait, we were seated right away. It was poppin so it took almost 30 minutes for the food to come out but it was delicious and the coffee is good. It's right in the heart of town so there's plenty to explore afterwards. They don't take reservations and it's very popular, but definitely worth it.
RED KETTLE @ IDYLLWILD Parking is limited to street parking only, but there are plenty of spots around the small town. It's free and super easy to find. My boyfriend and I came on a Saturday afternoon and found parking within minutes. My boyfriend has been coming to The Red Kettle for the past two years every time he visits this town, so I was really excited to finally try it. When we arrived, there was already a line out the door with people waiting. We put our names down and waited about 20 minutes, which went by pretty quickly. Once we were seated, we got our menus, and the girl who took our order was incredibly sweet. I loved her energy and the recommendations she gave. We ordered a hot chocolate to start, and it was amazing, definitely on the sweeter side and piled with whipped cream, so if you have a sweet tooth, you'll love it. My boyfriend also got a black coffee, which comes with unlimited refills. The staff walks around offering more, so you never run out. For food, my boyfriend got the Junkyard Omelette, and I ordered the French toast with bacon. We also shared a half-order of the biscuits and gravy. The food took about 30 minutes to come out, which is understandable since it was packed. Just keep in mind that weekends get super busy. The restaurant is open from 7 AM to 2 PM daily, so if you're visiting, try to come before noon so you don't risk getting turned away near closing time. Now the food, honestly incredible. I'm not even a big biscuits person, but their biscuits and gravy were to die for. They were savory, soft, and had the perfect melt-in-your-mouth texture. I highly recommend getting them. You can choose between a half-order or full order. For a group of 2-3 people, the half-order is perfect, but the full order is great if you're really hungry. My French toast was delicious, and although my bacon came out a little burnt at first, they remade it super quickly. The eggs were great too. My boyfriend's omelette came with crispy hashbrowns that were honestly so good. It all tasted fresh, hearty, and very home-cooked, like something you'd make with your family. I loved the classic diner vibe and the cozy ambiance. Overall, I would definitely come back to The Red Kettle if I'm ever in Idyllwild again. The experience was great, the service was amazing, and the food was absolutely worth the wait.
Red kettle is a must go brunch spot when visiting Idyllwild. Pros: being the only brunch spot in Idyllwild the line can get very long. This could be a really good thing because the food is really good, but this could also be a bad thing because you might be waiting a long time. I arrived in the late morning and was able to get seated within 20 minutes for a table of two. The food here is really good. I ordered the junkyards omelette and it was very filling, had a side of hashbrowns and toast and the flavor was great. My girlfriend ordered the French toast combo which came with two eggs and her choice of sausage or bacon she chose bacon. I also ordered a coffee and she ordered a hot chocolate. Both were really good and coffees had a free refill. There are two bathrooms within the inside and they were very clean. Cons: first con would be the long wait times depending on what time you show and when you visit during the year. Because it gets very busy, service could be slow for me. The service was good, but the food came out a little longer than it should have. I didn't mind because I didn't have any anywhere else to go so that was fine with me, but just keep in mind, you could be waiting a while. Verdict: before this time I came to red kettle at least twice before every time that I visited Idlewild and I will continue visiting because it's very good food. I always have a good time there and it's really the only spot to get brunch and not a wild, I would recommend this to anybody visiting.
The food here could use a little more flavor, but they are open on days when other businesses are closed, and the staff are very very nice! The service was great and the prices here (compared to other restaurants in the area) are also great.
I had two great experiences at the Red Kettle. Saturday and Sunday. It is a great place. Fast service. Even better, great customer service. The place is a delight. We were seated immediately. We were never pressured to order but we were checked in with occasionally. The food arrived fast. Great selection on the menu. One day I had the polish sausage with eggs and the next day I had the wagyu beef patty with eggs. All so tasty. Drinks were refilled multiple times. Tamara has a great place here. We will be back the next time we are in town. I like red and this red is warm. Seating is indoors or on their patio. Parking is free on the street. Try this place.

My husband wanted to surprise me and take me somewhere new for my birthday. We don't live close by but I want to see some snow. The drive up there was beautiful even though I am afraid of heights. It's cute little diner type of place with a lot of posters. Friendly people, since I am allergic to eggs I have to go to places that servers breakfast and lunch which they do. They menu look great I was excited to get the usual for me is either patty melt or Reuben . The service was awesome, outstanding coffee. Unfortunately the rest of our food was NOT outstanding. They burned my bread so bad that all I could taste was burned bread and not the rest of my Reuben sandwich! Normally I would send it back but they were so nice that I didn't have the heart to do it. My husband ordered breakfast burrito and it was nothing to brag about. I would go back for the coffee and friendly people.

The place was packed with locals, which pretty much guarantees it's the spot to be. It's got that cool, old-school diner vibe with tons of tables and counter space, plus outdoor seating if you want to soak up the sunshine. And the food? So good. We ordered the muffin sandwich with hash browns, yummy! Everything came out exactly how we ordered it--hot, tasty, and totally hit the spot.
This little breakfast spot was small but completely packed--and honestly, that just proved how good it is. Even with every table full, the customer service never missed a beat. Our hostess and our server were both incredibly attentive, kind, and on top of everything. I ordered the eggs Benedict with hash browns! My wife ordered the Ruben on rye with side of potato salad! It's real busy but not like last weekend as it was a holiday weekend! The employees are great and you're up at over 5,000 ft. This cafe is like you being in your own cabin but with lots of people! We came up here about 3 yrs ago and love the food! ***** Five stars for the ambience. ***** Five stars for the service. ** Two stars for the food. It's a very cute well run mountain town establishment with limited competition. It's a GOLD mine! The service and friendliness is second to none! Delightful. I was just gonna try a couple of à la carte breakfast items to save money, BUT I was quickly "flipped" to a full meal package (much to my chagrin) and with tax and tip over $21! Well, that's a little pricey for a senior on a budget. I hate to say this, but when I'm traveling on a highway (and there's almost no alternative) Denny's does this right with their "senior menu" offerings at half this price! And that's kind of a grand slam. I make the same mistake frequently and I'm not even a big fan of eggs, but I didn't have much choice other than the veggie burger. I decided on scrambled eggs with hashbrowns and the veggie sausage from MorningStar brand (which origin is rooted in the vegetarian friendly Seventh-day Adventist Church.) My side dish was a generous portion of sliced avocado, nicely plated. To me, this spot was kind of like a "SYSCO" food depot. (If you know what I mean). The standard fair for many cafés. But, the service is very warm, old school charm where everybody chats with you to make sure you're doing OK and comes by and taps your shoulder or gives you a little back rub in passing. Not Harvey Weinstein weird but rather kind, friendly, vibes. I was transported to the set of "Andy of Mayberry" just wondering when Aunt Bea was gonna bring out the apple pie! This is as good of a breakfast as you'll get! Tourist towns can be tough but this place is great. The staff is beyond friendly. They're enough to get me to return. The Griddled Potato Scramble is delicious and HUGE. The omelet was great as well, but I can't speak to it because my partner devoured it before I could try it. That speaks for itself, I think. Get the biscuit. It's fluffy and perfect. Just do it. Also, go early. Like, as soon as they open. Otherwise, you're going to be waiting a while. read more

Warm and cozy family-feel restaurant in town. The place is tiny and the line is long! Put your name down and make sure someone from your party is present waiting because if they call your party and you're not there...your seat will be taken due to the long lines! . They are very accommodating though and so nice. The boss lady Tammy is super sweet and will try her best to ensure you are taken care of . The food is delish. Hash browns are perfect, crispy on the outside and butter soft inside. The pancakes are soooo good you don't even need syrup! We also got French toast...they give you a good amount not just 2 pieces of bread like some of the other places. For dessert we had apple pie à la mode. So good! My kids also tried the wagyu Benedict, the chicken fried steak, and the brisket. I am assuming it was all good because they cleaned their plates. Love the art pieces on the wall...from local artists to the hilarious sarcastic sayings.Had to dock a star because the wait time for food is long even though they do their best with all the craziness. And one of the waitresses had a little attitude when we accidentally bumped into her because the place was crowded and despite giving her an apology. read more

Tucked in the mountains among the trees is this cute and cozy little slice of Americana called Red Kettle restaurant. I was staying in Idyllwild and this restaurant is right in the center of the village there. I wanted to get pancakes eggs and bacon and this restaurant delivered. The buttermilk pancakes were very light fluffy full flavor. Served with a lot of butter on the side and syrup and it paired well with their freshly cooked bacon. Nothing beats sweet and savory in the morning like pancakes and bacon and coffee. The coffee was piping hot too. Our waitress was very attentive and very kind. Servers would come around and fill up our coffee. I really enjoyed my time eating here and enjoying the atmosphere of being out in the forest and the mountains. This place does give a veteran discount. My waitress had even mentioned her son was in the Navy and was a pilot so we talked a little bit about that and she thanked me for my service. so, if you're in the area stop by. you'll really enjoy a good comforting meal. read more

Cute diner vibe inside with lots of beautiful paintings and cheeky signs inside and a little outside deck area. Service was minimal but we got everything we needed just fine. They were very consumed in chatting with each other and the other locals. I got the breakfast quesadilla which was quite delicious and packed full! My boyfriend got the Red Kettle french toast which was a bit underwhelming. It tasted good but we were under the impression it was going to be this specialty french toast. The Red Kettle cafe was really buzzing on the weekend recently. It was, unfortunately, really loud inside and I don't know what anybody can do about that. The staff was hustling and the food came out reasonably quickly, which was good. The food was OK but nothing special or exceptional for the price. I would probably not dine here regularly if I lived in the area. However, as a tourist, it was fine and convenient. Three and a half stars overall. read more
We were in Idyllwild for a wedding, and made a decision to order from the Red Kettle since we were getting ready. I was excited to have breakfast and coffee of course! We showed up a little later than breakfast so they'd stop making waffles or pancakes, so we opted for 2 orders chicken wings and added 2 orders of onion rings for the house. For us since we wanted breakfast we ordered the breakfast combo with a biscuit. They were super busy, which wasn't surprising since it's a very small town! So if you're in the area show up early, or show up with patience. The lady taking our order wasn't the best, she asked if we were ready several times after we found out we couldn't get waffles. We had to scramble and find something else to order. When asked to add the onion rings she sternly said they had to be on the side and weren't offered as a combo, which I knew since their menu has them as add ons, not as combos. Their menu is very explained, so you expect and know what you're getting when you order. The biscuit was okay- it was a huge dinner roll style, but hints of salty and bread-like as a biscuit should. The best part of the breakfast was the biscuit. The eggs, bacon and hash browns we got were drained in their liquid butter, so it ruined the dish for me. I wouldn't go back to get the breakfast. The wings and onion rings held up nicely from the drive back up to our cabin, and they were pretty tasty. As far as napkins and utensils, they were included in our order so I was pleased they think about their takeout customers and their orders when picking up. They were busy in the morning when my other family visited; so overall, the Red Kettle will be busy if you visit! The hours are decent, but again, if you're looking for late breakfast, it might not be the place. I would call ahead if you're looking for a later breakfast option. read more

I love the Red Kettle. They have a patio area where you can have your fur babies with you. Just keep in mind that it's cooling down up there and you might want to bring a jacket for you and your fur babies. Go, enjoy!
