We were guests at the resort, and upon seeing their reasonable pricing in addition to receiving drink coupons, we decided to give it a try. They were able to substitute iced tea for the free alcoholic drink (with purchase of entree), and they had a cider option included. They don't charge extra to switch out fries for onion rings which isn't common amongst restaurants nowadays. And the onion rings were really fresh and good. Overall, all of our meals tasted great and it was a great option to have at the retreat. We sat out in the back patio since we had a dog with us, and thank god they had heaters because it was cold at night. Our only complaint was that the food took over 20 minutes to come out after ordering, and they said they were backed up by one large party. read more

I was SO excited to dine here. The atmosphere is everything. You get to enjoy good food, surrounded by nature. I can only imagine how beautiful it is during the winter. The food was delicious. Slow to get to the table, though. And there is an extra charge for everything, including 1 slice of tomato in the kids burger. Our waitress was ok. We stayed at Tahquitz Pines Retreat and were given two vouchers for wine and beer, so we decided to try this restaurant out. There was no wait when we came on Saturday at around 5pm. The ambiance inside was warm and cozy, somewhat dimly lit and perfect for a dinner for two. We ordered the shrimp corn chowder, the lemon caper chicken, and the kona burger. The shrimp and corn chowder was our absolute favorite, one of the best chowders we've had. We also really liked the kona burger, which is like a teriyaki char burger from The Habit if you've ever had one! This one was better. I will say that the beef patty could've been seasoned a bit more and could have been juicier, but the sauce was great to pair with the burger. Our least favorite thing was the lemon caper chicken, specifically the chicken itself. Although it was cooked well, it didn't taste too special, and the lemon sauce was a little bitter (probably from using too much of the lemon rind/whites). But overall the dish was enjoyable. We finished all of our food along with two glasses of their house wines, which were solid. All of the food came out within about 15-20 minutes and the servers were incredibly sweet. Overall if you're staying at Tahquitz Pines, I'd highly recommend at least stopping here to redeem your vouchers, or if you're staying in Idyllwild! read more

The Peak is a casual and comfortable restaurant located inside The Tahquitz Pines resort. The food is very good, the staff is kind and quick. I had the Mahi fish tacos, which were huge and very flavorful. We came back the following night for dinner and had the Tuscan Chicken sandwich and Brussels Sprouts. The Brussels Sprouts were delicious! The beer is served very cold and priced reasonably. I would come here again...after all I already went two nights in a row. read more

Our server told us this place had opened just about a year ago so I wanted to be sure to write about my positive experience. Me and my boyfriend had dinner reservations here on a Wednesday evening. The restaurant is attached to a hotel/lodging site. The inside is nice and modern and we opted to sit outside with the nice view of the trees. Be warned though! evening time in the spring/summer has the mosquitoes out so wear bug spray or cover up to enjoy the nice evenings outside. Our server, Alex, was a pleasure and very accommodating. For dinner I got the orange chicken which I was on the fence about but glad I ordered because I really enjoyed the saki-infused sauce they make. My boyfriend got the chicken tenders which were plentiful and delicious with a side of crunchy onion rings. Both of our meals were 10/10. I also ordered the blood orange cider they offer and that was quite refreshing and not too sweet. Lastly for dessert we enjoyed their fried ice cream which was crunchy and delicious. Came up for a family wedding and decided to stay at the Peak Resort. The restaurant was very elegant and woodsy at the same time. The waitress was very attentive as she seemed to be new. We ordered the Coconut Shrimp which was very good. Then we had the Alfredo Pasta with Chicken and the Pulled Pork Sandwich with Onion rings. All the food was very good, freshly tasting and good portions. Be aware that pricing is a little high but well worth it when it comes to flavor, ambience and service. As for the food, it was decent--flavorful but on the salty side, and overall reminded me of a standard cafeteria meal. I do not know why I came in with lower expectations, maybe because it was a newly renovated retreat center, and food at retreat centers are hit or miss. I will say this is definitely a hit. The variety of menu options, the atmosphere, and above all the service was spot on. I came on a weekday evening and it was not busy at all, I was accommodated quickly and greeted in such a friendly way by both the bartender and the servers. This was my first time staying at Tahquitz Pines Retreat and they renovated everything about 2 years ago (I'll review that later). On to The Peak Restaurant and Bar. Orlando was my server and he was just great because of his attentiveness, asked how the food was, gave a friendly welcome, asked about condiments and if ice was ok in water, there was just a level of service that I expect at a Michelin star that compares to The Peak....a restaurant and bar. I'm not saying it is Michelin quality but the service reminds me of that. The food was such a pleasant surprise. I got the BBQ pulled pork sandwich and usually these things are not as tender or lack flavor. This place got it right with a smoky and tangy flavor in the pork, the right amount of slaw and I loved the sweetness of the bread. I got onion rings with it that were crunchy and not too soggy. The amount of food was perfect also. I came for dinner but I am sure breakfast/lunch would be beautiful eating outside looking at the Tahquitz Peak---after all the place is named The Peak. I came to eat with my Son and Husband while staying in Idyllwild. I was quite surprised of how good was the food here. We came on Tuesday (2 tacos for $6) and tacos were pretty good. The tortillas were handmade which is an added bonus. The Pastor Tacos were a little spicy for my husband so he didn't eat all his tacos. I ordered a small pozole and it was pretty good too. The service was a little slow and the live music was great. My husband ordered an ice tea and it was brought to him at the end of the meal. Just visited for the first time this week, ordered their Tri-tip with vegetables and ancient grains. The steak was cooked medium rare like I asked, but it arrived cold. The vegetables were over cooked and mushy. I had asked the person taking my order what the "ancient grains" were - quinoa, farro, couscous? They said that they didn't know. Turns out the "ancient grains" are steamed white rice. It would be a 1 star review, but it was Taco Tuesday night and they had a live band that was really good. I thought it would be good quality meat for the price. The sidewinder potatoes were the best thing in either of our plates, and even they were pretty generic. The servers did not care that we didn't enjoy the meals. The trainee was nice but hadn't tried any of the food yet. I wouldn't normally write something like this, but the combination of circumstances during our visit was both bizarre and unpleasant enough to warrant feedback. First, I want to highlight the positives. The hostess and our server were incredibly kind and courteous. The menu was appealing, and the food itself was excellent. We came with three kids and two dogs, and the staff was very accommodating, which we truly appreciated. Unfortunately, the rest of our experience left a lot to be desired. When we arrived, we were first seated out front. While the area looked fine, it had no other patrons, no music, and lacked any ambiance. Hoping for a better atmosphere, we asked to move to the back patio, and again, the staff kindly accommodated us. However, we encountered the same issue--no music, no lighting, no ambiance. Given the beautiful wooded setting, it felt like a huge missed opportunity to create an inviting space. Our food arrived quickly and looked fantastic, but we had to wait about 15 minutes to receive utensils and plates. This didn't appear to be any one staff member's fault but rather a symptom of disorganized operations. Soon after, things took a turn for the worse: we were absolutely swarmed by mosquitos. And I don't say that lightly--we could barely sit still, and our baby had mosquitos visibly attacking his face and head. They were all over our food, and we all left with large, itchy welts. What's frustrating is that it seemed like management was aware of the mosquito problem. There were tiki torches around, but none were lit. The waitstaff, while doing their best, seemed overwhelmed and frazzled--even though the restaurant was mostly empty. This further suggests a systemic or management issue that's putting strain on the team. In the end, we couldn't even finish our meal. I had to run inside to ask for takeout boxes so we could leave as quickly as possible. The staff assisted us promptly, and one even ran after me to return a phone I'd forgotten in the rush. Despite their efforts, we spent over $100 on a meal we couldn't enjoy. Our kids ended up eating cold, soggy versions of this delicious food back at our cabin. It's worth noting that we dined at another outdoor restaurant the night before and had no mosquito issues, so this seems specific to your location and lack of prevention measures. At the very least, some portion of our bill should have been comped under the circumstances. Suggestions for Improvement: * Invest in real mosquito prevention measures or consider closing outdoor seating during peak mosquito hours in the summer. * Create ambiance with simple upgrades: outdoor speakers, string lights, art, or fire pits. These small touches can go a long way. * Most importantly, address the organizational issues that are clearly impacting both guests and staff. It was obvious your team was doing their best, but they appeared unsupported and overwhelmed. We truly wanted to love this place--the food and setting have so much potential. But without attention to these core issues, the guest experience will continue to suffer. read more

A while back I felt like having a nice burger. Although there are several places in town with good burger, I figured let's check yelp to see if we can find anything new, and boy was I surprised when I saw this place. As is the case with every other place in town, this is a local type spot, relax, friendly and welcoming. The place is new on the grounds of recently place converted to cabins and Spa. The grounds are indeed well kept. We went in, sat and had a very friendly waiter taking very good care of us. I got the burger, which was Very good. But I was also very impressed with the great and very fresh salad bar. This salad bar will become my go-to spot on the hill. So will the burger. Full bar was nice with some great selections of my favorite drinks. Understandably, city folks, like myself may feel this place is strange, but this is the vibe in this town. We like to sit, chat, relax and enjoy meeting our neighbors, or visitors. No need to be in a rush. I would assure you that you would not be stuck in traffic when you're heading back. read more

The girl told me it wouldn't be a problem seat outside, and even when I said it was for Friday, she said just come by it won't be a problem. I made a reservation anyway. When we arrived at 6:30, the entire patio was booked out for a wedding party. There was only one table available for us way back in a corner, away from any views, which was kind of a bummer. Luckily I read reviews that talked about mosquitoes, as there were plenty... so I had slathered on the DEET beforehand. As for food, it was mixed. Squash blossom appetizer had a much heavier breading than anticipated, but I liked the ricotta filling and tasty aioli. The coconut chowder turns about to be a very bland runny soup... the shrimp were really good, but not enough to make this dish enjoyable. For entree, I wanted the short ribs... but for some reason at 7:00 they were sold out, so I got the meatloaf. It was quite tasty. There was a lot of bacon wrapped around it, so some of it was cooked, and other spots it wasn't rendered enough. Overall experience was ok. read more

The 'Kiss of Smoke' New York Steak came out with nice grill marks and the correct temperature (medium), but the loaded potato was watery on the bottom. I really wanted to try the Alabama BBQ wings I saw in the pictures on Yelp, but they have been replaced by Frank's Buffalo Sauce wings, so that was a bummer. I ordered The Cliff wedge salad and added chicken to it. There were plenty of toppings and it was literally half a head of iceberg lettuce, so you're getting a good-sized portion there. It was empty when we first arrived, but filled in with 4 other couples by the time we left around 6pm on a Saturday evening. There were two large screens playing the football game behind the bar, so this would be a good place to go to watch a game if you're staying somewhere without cable. The restaurant has a great patio with plenty of trees and is very calming in general. For food, I had the wings, tuna tostada and steak strips. The steak strips were seasoned/marinated perfectly and I liked the meat a lot. The wings are smoked and were also good. The tuna tostada was fresh. Service was very attentive and friendly.
