We just got onion rings that were nice and crispy and we also got the zucchini flower that was unfortunately cold in the middle and pretty bland, but the sauce it came with was great. We were guests at the resort, and upon seeing their reasonable pricing in addition to receiving drink coupons, we decided to give it a try. They were able to substitute iced tea for the free alcoholic drink (with purchase of entree), and they had a cider option included. They don't charge extra to switch out fries for onion rings which isn't common amongst restaurants nowadays. And the onion rings were really fresh and good. Overall, all of our meals tasted great and it was a great option to have at the retreat. We sat out in the back patio since we had a dog with us, and thank god they had heaters because it was cold at night. Our only complaint was that the food took over 20 minutes to come out after ordering, and they said they were backed up by one large party. read more

I was SO excited to dine here. The atmosphere is everything. You get to enjoy good food, surrounded by nature. I can only imagine how beautiful it is during the winter. The food was delicious. Slow to get to the table, though. And there is an extra charge for everything, including 1 slice of tomato in the kids burger. Our waitress was ok. The Peak is the best newer restaurant in Idyllwild. It has quickly replaced the other fine dining locations as the best food for a more reasonable price. The ribeye, skirt steak, lobster ravioli, salmon, have all been fantastic orders. The pizzas are completely awesome! The atmosphere is simple but the food is not.....it is a very well prepared menu supported by great staff. We have always been treated well, and have befriended Shea, who greets us during our last 4 visits, and knows me and Mike by name; she is simply awesome and treats us like family. I went to dinner on Friday, August 7th and I want to start by saying that I genuinely did love the dinner and the service was very pleasant. The issue came when my sister and I went to use the restroom while our friend stayed behind to watch our food before we planned to head home. At some point, he had a restroom emergency and went to go use it after my sister finished before me. When I went out to meet her at the car, I realized that my steak was missing from the leftovers and went back inside to look for it. After being told that my food had likely been thrown out, I was devastated but too timid for confrontation so I reluctantly left empty handed. I asked my sister what had happened and she mentioned that she didn't see my leftover box and only saw her's and our friend's leftovers at the table. I also want to note that my sister and my friend were the only ones to get bags for their boxes and I didn't receive one for my box, incase that adds extra context. I feel upset because I was only able to have less than half of my steak before I began to feel full and I don't feel I got my money's worth which was also upsetting because I only like to treat myself on special occasions. I genuinely loved the steak and I was looking forward to having leftovers the next day. read more

I was hoping for a nice dinner in Idyllwild but alas, it was ruined. There were people standing in the aisle talking at full volume trying to overtalk the patrons at the bar. The Peak is a casual and comfortable restaurant located inside The Tahquitz Pines resort. The food is very good, the staff is kind and quick. I had the Mahi fish tacos, which were huge and very flavorful. We came back the following night for dinner and had the Tuscan Chicken sandwich and Brussels Sprouts. The Brussels Sprouts were delicious! The beer is served very cold and priced reasonably. I would come here again...after all I already went two nights in a row. read more

Our server told us this place had opened just about a year ago so I wanted to be sure to write about my positive experience. Me and my boyfriend had dinner reservations here on a Wednesday evening. The restaurant is attached to a hotel/lodging site. The inside is nice and modern and we opted to sit outside with the nice view of the trees. Be warned though! evening time in the spring/summer has the mosquitoes out so wear bug spray or cover up to enjoy the nice evenings outside. Our server, Alex, was a pleasure and very accommodating. For dinner I got the orange chicken which I was on the fence about but glad I ordered because I really enjoyed the saki-infused sauce they make. My boyfriend got the chicken tenders which were plentiful and delicious with a side of crunchy onion rings. Both of our meals were 10/10. I also ordered the blood orange cider they offer and that was quite refreshing and not too sweet. Lastly for dessert we enjoyed their fried ice cream which was crunchy and delicious. I highly recommend stopping by here if you're new to visiting Idyllwild or returning looking for a newer spot! read more

We stayed at Tahquitz Pines Retreat and were given two vouchers for wine and beer, so we decided to try this restaurant out. There was no wait when we came on Saturday at around 5pm. The ambiance inside was warm and cozy, somewhat dimly lit and perfect for a dinner for two. We ordered the shrimp corn chowder, the lemon caper chicken, and the kona burger. The shrimp and corn chowder was our absolute favorite, one of the best chowders we've had. We also really liked the kona burger, which is like a teriyaki char burger from The Habit if you've ever had one! This one was better. I will say that the beef patty could've been seasoned a bit more and could have been juicier, but the sauce was great to pair with the burger. Our least favorite thing was the lemon caper chicken, specifically the chicken itself. Although it was cooked well, it didn't taste too special, and the lemon sauce was a little bitter (probably from using too much of the lemon rind/whites). But overall the dish was enjoyable. We finished all of our food along with two glasses of their house wines, which were solid. All of the food came out within about 15-20 minutes and the servers were incredibly sweet. Overall if you're staying at Tahquitz Pines, I'd highly recommend at least stopping here to redeem your vouchers, or if you're staying in Idyllwild! read more

Came up for a family wedding and decided to stay at the Peak Resort. The restaurant was very elegant and woodsy at the same time. The waitress was very attentive as she seemed to be new. We ordered the Coconut Shrimp which was very good. Then we had the Alfredo Pasta with Chicken and the Pulled Pork Sandwich with Onion rings. All the food was very good, freshly tasting and good portions. Be aware that pricing is a little high but well worth it when it comes to flavor, ambience and service. We were recommended here from the front desk where we are staying. To start, when we entered the hostess stand had a sign posted for a 30 minute wait. From what we could see the place was maybe 1/3 full going into a weekend dinner hour at 5 o'clock. We did end up being seated sooner. Long wait for our server to acknowledge us. She was polite but you could tell busy and rushed. Got our drinks fairly fast. Ordered an appetizer that took close to 20 minutes which we asked to have the order checked on. Onion Ring were good. Another 20 minutes to get our entree's. My wife's steak was cooked right and flavorful. My Salmon was overcooked but the grilled Asparagus was wonderful. Did not see our server that often during our dinner. Again obviously busy and rushed. Throughout our meal the wait continued to be high and some people left. Again. Not full with plenty of open tables. Atmosphere over good. Sound at times loud. But towards the end of our meal, music came and it was loud. Ruined the atmosphere completely. I do not know why I came in with lower expectations, maybe because it was a newly renovated retreat center, and food at retreat centers are hit or miss. I will say this is definitely a hit. The variety of menu options, the atmosphere, and above all the service was spot on. I came on a weekday evening and it was not busy at all, I was accommodated quickly and greeted in such a friendly way by both the bartender and the servers. This was my first time staying at Tahquitz Pines Retreat and they renovated everything about 2 years ago (I'll review that later). On to The Peak Restaurant and Bar. Orlando was my server and he was just great because of his attentiveness, asked how the food was, gave a friendly welcome, asked about condiments and if ice was ok in water, there was just a level of service that I expect at a Michelin star that compares to The Peak....a restaurant and bar. I'm not saying it is Michelin quality but the service reminds me of that. The food was such a pleasant surprise. I got the BBQ pulled pork sandwich and usually these things are not as tender or lack flavor. This place got it right with a smoky and tangy flavor in the pork, the right amount of slaw and I loved the sweetness of the bread. I got onion rings with it that were crunchy and not too soggy. The amount of food was perfect also. I came for dinner but I am sure breakfast/lunch would be beautiful eating outside looking at the Tahquitz Peak---after all the place is named The Peak. TLDR: Come visit here if you are in the area, worth a stop and the service is amazing. read more

The tortillas were handmade which is an added bonus. The Pastor Tacos were a little spicy for my husband so he didn't eat all his tacos. I ordered a small pozole and it was pretty good too. The service was a little slow and the live music was great. My husband ordered an ice tea and it was brought to him at the end of the meal. Just visited for the first time this week, ordered their Tri-tip with vegetables and ancient grains. The steak was cooked medium rare like I asked, but it arrived cold. The vegetables were over cooked and mushy. I had asked the person taking my order what the "ancient grains" were - quinoa, farro, couscous? They said that they didn't know. Turns out the "ancient grains" are steamed white rice. It would be a 1 star review, but it was Taco Tuesday night and they had a live band that was really good. I want to start by saying this review is directed at management, with the hope that it can help improve the overall experience. I wouldn't normally write something like this, but the combination of circumstances during our visit was both bizarre and unpleasant enough to warrant feedback. First, I want to highlight the positives. The hostess and our server were incredibly kind and courteous. The menu was appealing, and the food itself was excellent. We came with three kids and two dogs, and the staff was very accommodating, which we truly appreciated. Unfortunately, the rest of our experience left a lot to be desired. When we arrived, we were first seated out front. While the area looked fine, it had no other patrons, no music, and lacked any ambiance. Hoping for a better atmosphere, we asked to move to the back patio, and again, the staff kindly accommodated us. However, we encountered the same issue--no music, no lighting, no ambiance. Given the beautiful wooded setting, it felt like a huge missed opportunity to create an inviting space. Our food arrived quickly and looked fantastic, but we had to wait about 15 minutes to receive utensils and plates. This didn't appear to be any one staff member's fault but rather a symptom of disorganized operations. Soon after, things took a turn for the worse: we were absolutely swarmed by mosquitos. And I don't say that lightly--we could barely sit still, and our baby had mosquitos visibly attacking his face and head. They were all over our food, and we all left with large, itchy welts. What's frustrating is that it seemed like management was aware of the mosquito problem. There were tiki torches around, but none were lit. The waitstaff, while doing their best, seemed overwhelmed and frazzled--even though the restaurant was mostly empty. This further suggests a systemic or management issue that's putting strain on the team. In the end, we couldn't even finish our meal. I had to run inside to ask for takeout boxes so we could leave as quickly as possible. The staff assisted us promptly, and one even ran after me to return a phone I'd forgotten in the rush. Despite their efforts, we spent over $100 on a meal we couldn't enjoy. Our kids ended up eating cold, soggy versions of this delicious food back at our cabin. It's worth noting that we dined at another outdoor restaurant the night before and had no mosquito issues, so this seems specific to your location and lack of prevention measures. At the very least, some portion of our bill should have been comped under the circumstances. Suggestions for Improvement: * Invest in real mosquito prevention measures or consider closing outdoor seating during peak mosquito hours in the summer. * Create ambiance with simple upgrades: outdoor speakers, string lights, art, or fire pits. These small touches can go a long way. * Most importantly, address the organizational issues that are clearly impacting both guests and staff. It was obvious your team was doing their best, but they appeared unsupported and overwhelmed. We truly wanted to love this place--the food and setting have so much potential. But without attention to these core issues, the guest experience will continue to suffer. read more
