This is a review for just the cookies and pies. They come in pre-made boxed containers and were mediocre at best. I had the crack pie and it was cold like it had been sitting in a fridge for a few days, and very firm. I like my pies with texture and this one was more of a cookie because it was so dense. It was also very small and for 5.50, I was expecting way more presentation and tastiness which it both lacked. The cashier was nice though. read more

Milk bar feels a bit like the stereoptype of NYC yuppies paying $8 for a cup of coffee come to life. I felt ridiculous paying what I did for coffee and a Bagel bomb, but did it anyway. Was it worth it? Nah. Haven't had the trademark milkshakes but the pricing was similarly high. Service was quick and friendly so star for that, but the concept, menu, and quality weren't there for me. And the prices....let's just say your grandparents' heads would probably explode if they saw them. You may feel comfortable dropping the cash, but still feel you can get more bang for your buck elsewhere. read more

I am highly disappointed in this place... I was anxious to try their pork buns. Well needless to say curiosity killed this cat, I was not aware that the buns would be microwaved. I throw my microwave out about 3 years ago for this very same reason, it make bread/dough very soggy, tough and rubbery. The pork was bland and I thought that would be the savior of this bun. They do get one star for providing me with sriracha sauce to kick it up lol. Normally I'm a big fan, but today my friends and I got compost cookies that were slightly stale. For the $ this place charges for a cookie, they should be in much better shape. When we went back in the store to tell the counter clerk, she was not sympathetic. She said, "No. That batch is in date." It was kind of off putting. But hey, we've had these a hundred times and these cookies are not right. She offered to heat them up, which helped a little, but it was still not the experience you want and expect from this business. Bummer. read more

I cannot rave enough about how nice and thoughtful and friendly the people are here. I've been here multiple times and every time the person serving or at the cashier is so friendly and accommodating. I was really excited to try Milk Bar after watching Christina Tosi on Chef's table. I got cereal milk ice cream with fruity cereal topping and crack pie. I was a little disappointed with the ice cream because I thought there was going to be a little bit more to it. The ice cream didn't really remind me of cereal milk. I loved the crack pie though. First of all, the place was extremely hot, which is fine being that it's July and the place is tiny. However, we ordered 4 bday Milkquakes and one Choco Pretzel milkquake. We received the milkquakes with no sprinkles and the choco pretzel had nothing on top of it either, it was also already melted when we received it. This place was really interesting and offered a variety of different things you wouldn't normally see in a bakery. I had a lot of question over the menu and the employee there was very helpful she said I can sample the Life juice and ice cream. Also if I didn't know what something was to ask her. The prices seemed pretty reasonable I got the iced chai, but I think the only thing I found odd was that they charged extra for ice?? The chai was amazing though and i would order it again. Tiny spot, a bar along one wall with condiments and napkins. Chalkboard wall lists everything from softserve flavors, milk flavors, milkshake flavors to cookie varieties, pies and bun's of the day. In addition, a separate menu listed the breakfast and sandwich flavors of the day. Yes I did. I said they have buns. Two or three varieties only and unfortunately, I did not try them this time. employees were more than willing to allow for flavor testing and at six bucks a scoop, taste before you buy. Of course I did not heed my own advice and ordered the infamous cereal milk flavored shake. Mind bogglinG meet head numbing. I am not sure how it was possible but Special K flavored milkshake I did drink. this shake was smooth, flavorful and just the right thickness to slurp to the end using a straw. Surprisingly not too sweet and of course, creamy. My buddies girlfriend surmises that they must dump hundreds of boxes of cereal into a giant vat of milk, stir, let stand and then strain out the cereal to arrive at this precisely accurate rendition of milk flavored by cereal. This Milk logo is so ubiquitous it's not funny... The 12th street location in the east village I walk by all the time. I could tell you about the awesome cookies they have here, double-chocolate, and choco-chip. But you already know about all that. What it means that they are now on Metropolitan in Wburg says even more about the state of this little neighborhood of Brooklyn. So a friend had kept hyping up this place at how good it was for it's junk food (ice cream, cookies, glorified timbits etc.). This place is cool, I bought one cookie (cornflake marshmallow chocolate chip) and one espresso shake. The cookie was quite delicious and would definitely buy again (very gourmet) but was kinda pricey (1.85) I guess. The espresso shake was very pricey (8 dollars) but it was pretty good (and strong!). I guess this Milk bar doesn't have as much as the other ones in Brooklyn but it's still pretty good. If my friend didn't mention to me that this was 1 of 2 places he wanted to go to in New York, I probably wouldn't have thought twice about buying anything from this company. I placed a $150 online order of a cake, truffles, and a pie for my wife's 40th birthday celebration. The order never arrived. I have received no response from the customer service email, their Twitter account, and no one is answering their customer service phone number. I contacted the Williamsburg store pleading for some help, as it seems impossible to resolve this issue through the regular channels. Someone who identified themself as Gabby blew me off and refused to help direct me to anyone who might be able to help me. Came in here with a friend who swears by the soft serve Cereal Milk. Intrigued I decided to get a regular cup and my friend got one with the crunchies. I also got a slice of the crack pie to go. First spoon: interesting. Toss the spoon out and proceeded to full on lick. Not bad but got sick of the flavor after lick #20. It tasted literally like the milk you drink after you're done with the bowl of corn flakes. Note: regular corn flakes, NOT frosted corn flakes. I was under the impression it was the frosted kind so needless to say I was surprised when the ice cream was slightly salty. Had a nibble of the crack pie to see if I'd get hooked. Nope. Read Yelp reviews before going to this place. Came here for desserts after dinner around the area. It was much smaller than I imagined, and there were no tables just benches. Alot of hype sorrounds places like this which makes for cramped areas in this already small spot, I wish it was just a bit larger or that they would move the menu so you can have somewhere to sit while having an alcoholic shake so you do not obstruct the view of the menu. I think its more about the hype than the desserts here. I don't get the hype. It's nothing special. The cookies have way too much salt in them. To the point where my taste bud a were wondering if they were sweet or salty. The crack pie is the only thing I like here. The ice cream is salty as well. I understand that a little salt is added to balance out the flavors but you're just putting in way too much salt. David Chan has really come up in the world ( due to Anthony Bourdain's unrelenting love for him) but that shouldn't mean you neglect your food. Get it together. The cereal and milk ice cream has a nice salty taste to it and the cereal crunch is a nice addition .The consistency is too watery/thin and the ice cream seems on the verge of melting almost immediately. I love this place...though not quite everything in this place. For instance, their cereal milk is super popular (the ice cream). But as I don't like cereal milk in general (personal preference) I'm just not a fan because it tastes EXACTLY like that. So if you like cereal milk...go for it. I'm also not a big fan of their buns...just more bread with bland-ish stuffing. I had the pork bun. What I am a fan of is their cookies and their "pies". My fav cookies include: peanut butter (just because I love it) and compost (because it's awesome). My fav pies: crack pie. I actually like ALL of the slices, but I will usually go (in this order): crack, candy bar, grasshopper. I'm not saying you shouldn't get anything else there...like I may try a different flavor of ice cream. I just tend to go for the pies and the cookies. I tried the crack pie as the top-off to a great birthday meal (at Tabare- go there!). My boyfriend and I split the slice of pie, and although it looked small, we were both overwhelmed/stuffed/parched afterwards. Also we were both extremely pleased, as were our bellies. Not unlike the crack ice cream at Ample Hills, the crack pie at Momofuku is some crazy salty-sweet-fatty bliss point of a dessert, and it is rich and thirst-inducing. Order some ice cold water and you'll thoroughly enjoy the crap out of this crazy blissful pie. We were a little sad that the crack pie came out of the refrigerator already portioned in a tiny box. This is a happy place. Despite whether you think Milk Bar is overrated, overpriced, or whatever, you have to admit these folks are creative! Whimiscal. Imaginative! Willa-Wonka-y! Go Christina Tosi! It takes a lot of real culinary skill to actually replicate a cereal milk's flavor into soft serve ice cream- sure you might not dig the equal parts salty, equal parts sweet, equal parts creamy but that's on you. I think the cereal milk soft serve is delish, and genius. Get it with the cornflake crunch (pretty sure they fry those bad boys), and don't scoff at the small-looking helping. It's not small. It's thick, filling, heavy and tasty. Be sure to look out for the crunch below in the cup and swish it around. Yum. Other than that, I haven't had much else here. They distribute their cookies at events, so I guess, I've had those off site- the compost is pretty good- again sweet and salty with chips, pretzels, chocolate chip of other yummy gunk. It's all about sweet and salty at Milk Bar. Ditto for blueberry and cream- a little less adventurous, fruit and creamy, and lastly, ditto for the corn my favorite. Simple. Corny. Yum. I've also had their wedding cakes before at a wedding- they are again, creative with no edges so you can see the colorful layers....very purdy. I'll be back to share a slither of the crack pie - I love-y oats! And butter! I don't mind that the prices are $5+... keep me at bay and my fat cells away. Service is fine. When I have sweet tooth cravings and I'm already nearby, I come here just for the cereal milk soft serve icecream with cornflakes. Yum yums even my boyfriend enjoyed it and he doesn't usually like icecream or desserts. But I don't get why some people loves getting the cookies so much... They feel like you're about to get instant cavities the minute you bite in to it, plus the fact that they're so chewy and mushy that it sticks to your teeth... Yep, for sure the cavities!
