TWO WORDS: CORN COOKIE. eat it. While Milk Bar is mostly known for their cereal milk shakes and crack pies, I was on a corn cookie mission (plus, they travel well!). I procured one corn cookie, a chocolate corn flake and marshmallow cookie, and a blueberries and cream cookie to go (stashed away for my flight home). The corn cookie is and will always clearly be my top favourite - it's as if the best slice of cornbread made sweet, sweet forbidden love to a buttery sugar cookie and thus, the momofuku corn cookie was born. this is the cookie that dreams are made of, and worth every buttery, calorie laden bite. the second favourite of the 3 cookies i sampled was the blueberries and cream, although the milk cream used in making the cookie makes it a bit structurally delicate, so be forewarned that you may have a crumbly, slightly gooey mess ahead of you when trying to conquer this beast. unfortunately, i was underwhelmed by the chocolate marshmallow cornflake cookie, but perhaps only because these are flavours and combinations that can and have likely been experienced and done at numerous other places - and even though it wasn't amazing, it was far from bad. corn cookie, you are the reason I have to run an extra 2 miles, but god i love you regardless. read more

As a self-proclaimed cookie monster, this was heaven. I've asked my friends who've traveled to NYC to bring me back some Momofuku cookies, but then again, nothing is better than a fresh out of the store, fresh out of the wrapper cornflake-chocolate-chip-marshmallow cookie! Whew, what a mouthful, which was how I felt after stuffing my face with it and the cereal milk soft serve simultaneously. After spending over $42 on cookies and soft serve, this cookie monster felt content knowing I had 14 cookies to look forward to when I went back to LA. One star off for the cash register dude who made me spend the $42+ in cookies though. I asked for two of the 6 cookie deals, b'day truffles, and the soft serve. I did not think it should come out to that much, but since there was a line behind me, I did not want to contest. I ended up paying for 16 cookies, including 2 flavors that I did not ask for, no b'day truffles, and soft serve. He also messed up on my friend's order. I'm going to have to agree with those who say it's not worth it... High end concept sweets... I'm there!!! Maybe not here though. A few of my friends were hyping up Momofuku, so when I passed it with my lady friend a few weeks ago on a walk, that instant child psychology of awesome sugary things took over. I'm not the kind of person to be dissuaded over prices either... so i tried a bit of everything. I got the crack pie (I love gooey butter cake and my friend from the south makes the best), a shake, and an assortment of cookies to get an overall feeling of sugary heaven and give the place a fair assessment. My conclusion.... The crack pie was uninspired, and when compared to that good old southern gooey butter cake, it wasn't in the same league. The shake was severely lacking on flavor (I ordered coffee figuring they would throw a shot of espresso in or something, but they just used syrup), and if you try to defend their shakes on milk quality... I think Ronnybrook has incredible milk and shakes. The cookies were interesting, blueberry cream, carrot based one, and one more (can't remember it was that unimpressionable) and thought they had a nobake cookie consistency and again lacking on flavor. Dude. Crack pie. Wait is it actually called that or is it called Candy Bar Pie? Cause I'm pretty sure there was crack in that pie cause I'm pretty sure when you put perfectly whipped peanut butter, chocolate crust, a salted pretzel and you shove caramel in there somewhere, and then put chocolate on top, it actually turns into a very pure form of crack and stops being its individual ingredients. So this is no place to come and sit for hours as most of the milk bar is just 4 boards of menu, however, it's cute to come in and grab something quickly. And that's easily done as everything (well the cakes & cookies) are already pre-packaged with a list of ingredients on the packaging (which I LOVE). As for the treats themselves: -Cereal Milk Soft Serve: certainly tastes like milk after you've had cornflakes--if you are into that, get this. I for one was happy with my two bites of the sample. -Compost cookie (chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, graham crumbs, pretzels, potato chips): it's a bit crunchy because of the ingredients (instead of smooth and gooey like how I like my cookies). In fact there are so many ingredients all of them kind of mesh together and create just a sweet taste that's nothing memorable. If I could actually taste the individual ingredients I would eat it but it's just not worth the calories, nor the disgusting ingredients that are used in this. High fructose corn syrup, riboflavin--like what even is that? What happened to cookies being flour, eggs, butter and natural ingredients??? -Crack pie: pretty good. Somewhat salty, somewhat sweet caramel/smoky flavored. The insides are perfectly smooth--like a key lime pie texture. The crust is harder because it has the nuts and glaze. My first bite I was like, okay this is fine, but I ended up devouring it--sort of. I like it but wouldn't have to have it again. I had no clue what I was in for. Initially, the wrapping (I thought everything would be fresh, aka sliced from the whole pie) was a bit offputting, especially the name "crack pie". Hands down though, one of the best dessert places I have been to. Don't bother wasting your time with the cereal milk ice cream or creamsicle ice cream. Go straight to the crack pie. I loved this place so much that on my way back to California, I bought a box of cookies, one of each flavor, so that my brother and I could have a cookie tasting week--one for each weekday. So effing good. The cereal milk ice cream with corn flakes is out of this world. Do yourself a favor and just grab a couple pints. I think I have had every cookie from here and they are all amazing. I stopped in recently and had the huckleberry cheesecake ice cream - equally as amazing as cereal milk. I already know that I LOVE Momofuku Milk Bar. I've been to the one in the city and finally got the chance to try this one. The thing is... I only really like the cereal milk soft serve with the cornflake crunch. It's what I always order when I'm there. The crack pie is meh..but I already knew that prior to coming to this one. The only reason I don't go as often is because that the one in the city is crazy and the line is down the street. This one is actually a reasonable wait (and much bigger than the one in the city). The truth is that were one to judge the product without the brand, one would be incredibly disappointed. The hot chocolate is always weak and flimsy, with only a tease of chocolate flavor. The compost cookie, as I described above, is meant to be some kind of childhood dream, but turns out to be an adulthood nightmare. And all of this is expensive. On my first and only visit thus far, I bought all three things that I have heard people rave about: the cereal milk Ice cream, the birthday cake truffles, and the crack pie. The birthday cake truffles were moist, but overall, I wasn't in love. The crack pie though was SO good and it's so obvious why there are recipes to mimic it at home. I definitely recommend it, 10/10. My FAVORITE thing though is the cereal milk ice cream with the corn flakes. It seriously tastes like cereal milk, and it blows my mind. Absolutely AMAZING. It's really refreshing, in my opinion, too. Okay so I have been hearing about this place for a long time and was in the area and decided to stop by! I've heard most via online and social media about their 'crack pie' . I purchased a slice of the crack pie & two other things Incase the crack pie flopped! And indeed in my opinion it FLOPPED! I'm not saying it wasn't good . However it tasted like a gooey granola bar and the goo filling being overly sweet! It was also not warm but the cashier said it should be eaten as such! Eeeh, I wouldn't go back for it or recommend it either. Now next up was the birthday cake truffles. They were cool . Tasted like birthday cake cookie dough. And last but not least the Corn Cookie! Definitely an A-OK spot, the milk bar is tiny but this particular location does offer cake classes, which is unique. We were lucky enough to sneak into (technically we didn't sneak, they let us walk in WITH hairnets on of course!) the back factory as a new cake-making group was entering. That was a particular highlight of the visit. We were able to see treats in the making and the staff was very friendly--although no, they didn't let us taste anything! I did appreciate that the coffee shop had dairy free options (soy and almond milk) and the almond latte was tasty. We also tried the b-day truffles, which were pretty lack-luster. Overall, small shop, standing room only aside from one bench inside (no tables) and two benches outside. Christina wasn't hiding in the back (I know that for a fact, because the five-year-old asked--FYI: Christina is her role model!) but isn't something I would recommend as a 'must visit spot'. read more

We came to this area in search of crack but only found crack pie. Kidding about the first part but serious about the second. Had the crack pie but it wasn't "like crack" at all. "Just keep adding sugar and it will taste great" seems to be the theme here. It's just another one of these cutesy novelty bakeries that seem to be sprouting up like wildfire. I applaud the effort in trying to be unique by offering a small variety of sweets you won't find anywhere else, but the sweets I had were kind of forgettable. A lot of people seem to go nuts over the crack pie but it was basically a sugar cookie in pie form. Nothing too special. It's not like you would have to employ NASA scientists to try to decipher the sheer genius of the ingredients there. We also tried some kind of cereal shake that involved alcohol. Although it might seem like a huge draw for a drunken late night snack, I had one sober and as tasty as it was, I just didn't get it. I don't know if it was the combo of the flavoring or the alcohol but it gave a hint of a spoiled milk taste. I thought it was rather funny that the workers wouldn't allow us leave the premises because the drink was alcoholic, therefore being unlawful to drink on the street. It would be equivalent to being arrested for having a rum cake in your possession. It just feels like this place is trying a little too hard to be different. This is for people that find a regular chocolate chip cookie to be boring. As long as the sweets I eat are delicious, I don't really need one that thinks out of the box. I'm sure that this is the type of place where an NY transplant would take their friends to when they come up for a visit. Ewwwww! This place is the worst! Everything is way too sweet and incredibly stale; it's all made made off-site in a massive factory and wrapped in plastic. My theory is that everything is about a week+ old, and they just throw extra sugar in everything to hide the taste of staleness. Also, it's crazy how expensive everything is! The most egregious offender on the menu sre the cake truffles -- these are literally stale leftover scraps from their main cakes, which they've formed into tiny lumps and sell for nearly $5 a pop! While I enjoyed the shake more, it was nothing extraordinary especially for the price. This is actually the location where they make all the Milk Bar desserts that go out to the East Village location (and to Midtown). The entrance is right next to Saltie though it's not too obvious - the double green doors are usually closed and you may have to ring the bell. They only sell in bulk... meaning prepackaged cookies by the dozen or entire cakes and pies. I'm not sure if the prices are any cheaper than the one in East Village ($20 for a dozen cookies) but they do sometimes have samples of the cookies there. Sadly, Crack Pie = pecan pie without the pecans. The crust is below average. It in no way, shape, or form, resembles anything worthy of the name "Crack Pie." While not bad, it's not amazing. "Meh" is the best way I can describe it. Also, the pie isn't fresh (it's served in a refrigerated cardboard box) and the portion is ridiculously tiny. For nearly $6, I expect something made on the premises. Now on to the beverages: I forked over $9 for a cereal milk white russian. White russians are nice, cereal milk is delicious, a no-fail combo, right? Wrong. The portion was ridiculously tiny for a milkshake (think less than 10 oz) and tasted spectacularly awful. It tasted of...styrofoam? I'm not sure how to describe it, but it tasted extremely synthetic and not at all like the delicious heaven left in the bowl after breakfast. In fact, it was so bad I couldn't even finish half of it. *Note: I've had cereal-milk inspired dessert before (mmm creme brulee), but this completely missed the mark. Service was average. I was thinking of trying the veggie bun, but I don't think I can bring myself to go back. Save your money and time, if you're in the mood for syrupy pie, I suggest heading over to Hill Country BBQ for bourbon pecan pie a la mode (with Blue Bell ice cream).
