For my first trip to Houston, I wanted to grab dessert from a few local favorites. I had looked on Yelp about some of the best dessert spots in Houston and came across milk + sugar. I absolutely love homemade ice cream and the flavors I saw listed sounded delicious, so after walking around downtown Houston for a couple hours, I came here and rewarded myself with a cool, sweet treat! I arrived on a Friday around 8:00pm and managed to park in the small parking lot in back of this cute shop on the corner. I walked around the corner into the main entrance and saw it was pretty busy, which made sense since it was a beautiful, but hot, Friday evening. Many f the tables were filled but there were a few seats open so I wasn't too concerned. I didn't get straight in line as I wanted to see and read all the flavors! I had a hard time making a decision as all the flavors sounded great and I really appreciated the young gentleman who took my order for his patience with me! The ordering and cash out process was seamless and quick, which was good as I wanted to dig into the ice cream. I wound up ordering split scoops of "pb cookies & cream" (top scoop) and "happy wife" (bottom scoop) in a brown butter brown sugar waffle cone. Talk about wow! Cookies and Cream is my favorite Hershey's bar and one of my favorite ice cream flavors, but adding peanut butter to it is genius. The whole Oreo cookie pieces were a very nice touch too. The "happy wife" was the perfect way to finish off my waffle cone. I love sweet cream anything, but then adding whole pieces of their home-made almond pound cake sent it to another level. I was so impressed with how creamy their ice cream was but it didn't turn into a melty mess. What really surprised me though was how I didn't feel like I needed to drink a bottle of water afterwards, weird I know, but I've been to a couple homemade, local ice cream shops and it's like they added salt or something to their ice cream and I end up getting really thirsty afterward. Not here though, milk + sugar's ice cream was incredibly refreshing. The brown butter brown sugar waffle cone was excellent too, containing all the ice cream without a problem and not breaking apart at the slightest touch. I thought the prices were very much in-line with the quality and quantity I received. As I was walking out, I saw a freezer where they were selling pints of their flavors - I know that if I lived around here, I'd have one or two in my freezer at home. I'm glad I made it out to milk + sugar! The ice cream they're scooping up here is incredible, probably the best home-made ice cream I've had and that's a big deal coming from me. If/when I'm in Houston, I will definitely be back to try a couple more flavors! read more

TL;DR - very solid ice cream spot that I go to very often. Rain or shine is one of my favorite flavors here. Food - great ice cream selection with my personal favorites being Sunday Funday (hot fudge brownie), Rain or Shine (earl grey lemon), and Thai Tea. The ice cream is very dense and has a smooth mouthfeel, but the amount of heavy cream needed to make it so dense yet scoop-able makes the ice cream pretty heavy. Not gonna lie, I'm probably about to sound super bias with my review because this place has 2 PEANUT BUTTER ice creams. Peanut butter is one of my favorite flavors overall, so I just was super happy with that, but there was still plenty of different flavors to choose from that looked equally as delicious! Parking is definitely tight, but it wasn't busy when I went, so that wasn't a problem. Tasty ice cream. Tried the Strawberry Almond Cheesecake, the Happy Wife (sweet cream and pound cake), and the Butter Pecan Streusel. I think the Butter Pecan Streusel was my favorite. Delicious cone as well. I like that they do split scoops. One total scoop -- two flavors. They were really generous too -- I was so full! Service was super friendly and helpful. They let you try a couple samples once it is your turn, if you're interested. I like that all their flavors are listed on the menu board so you don't have to scan the ice cream, while a line of people waits behind you. However, some of the flavors have ambiguous names (e.g. Happy Wife) so you still need to do some decision-making once you're up. If you're anxious like me and this process stresses you out, they have all their current flavors listed on their website so you can be ready. Definitely a late night snack spot!! The ambience definitely gives a late night post-date vibes. Or even if you go alone it's definitely worth a visit, the staff is super friendly and welcoming. I heard it was National Ice Cream day so I looked up the closest place. I didn't know if the holiday was really that day but who cares. I found this place online and was very intrigued with the flavor combination, so I took the drive there. Upon entry, the place seems open and cold. I've seen this place often on Instagram and was glad I came out to try it! There's a couple of parking spots in the back and plenty of seating indoors. I got the cereal milk flavor which has Frosted Flakes inside and their coffee icecream called "a city never sleeps" . Loved both and they still offer tastings right now so you can sample different flavors before you commit. $5.50 for the split scoop option which is very worth! They have plenty of unique flavors and prior to covid- you can try samples of it, but when I went back during covid times, there was no samples available (for good reason). There's not one flavor I would recommend because they're all delicious! The descriptions are really helpful when making a choice, even if you don't get to sample it. You could still sit in an eat your ice cream, but they do require social distancing. I do appreciate the availability of hand sanitizers and their cleaning procedures. I always love chocolate flakes and chunks but the pretzel is such a unique add that is so complimentary. My friend got the Yum Cha and the Dulce de Horchata and liked them both very much! The Yum cha is a seasonal flavor of chrysanthemum and pandan (you can always ask for a sample if you've never had these flavors before). They have water available from a dispenser and a clean bathroom. They also sell pints!!!! Be sure to come check it out! I was in Houston, Texas for a few days and after doing some light shipping and sight seeing, a few of us wanted some ice cream. We looked for a few local spots on Yelp and Milk + Sugar popped up with good reviews. Upon walking in, we were greeted and looked at the specials and menu of flavors available. Once at the glass display of all the ice creams, it was too hard to decide so the cashier asked if I wanted to sample a couple different flavors and I'm so glad she did. I actually tried 3 different flavors and ALL were so good making it hard to decide but I finally decided on two and got the split option which allows you to split two flavors for folks like me that can't decide ! Flavors- I had the Strawberry Almond Cheesecake, which was exactly like it sounds. Creamy cream cheese flavored ice cream with amazing swirls of strawberries and graham crackers. My 2nd scoop was called the Happy Wife, which was similar but slightly more tart, great texture with almond pound cake pieces. Service - I am a sucker for great customer service. Although I cannot recall her name, she was the only employee working and was AMAZING! She went out of her way to ensure I got the flavors I wanted and did it with a smile. No complaints what so ever. I love this little spot. Okay, so it's located on Westhimer Rd between Shephard and Dunlavy. I'm usually the food guru, but my friend is the one that recommended this place. He knows what I like so I allowed him to pick out my two flavors. And he never disappoints. There is a seating area and a couple of chairs on the side. Anytime we have visitors from out of town, this is the first place that comes to mind when we want to show the best of Houston. The "City That Never Sleeps" is my absolute favorite ice cream, and I have yet to find anything from any other shop that rivals it. The unique flavor combinations are unparalleled. They make sure to kep things fresh by carrying seasonal flavors (but my toxic trait is always sticking to my fav flavor). It is so apparent that they care about the quality of the ingredients they use in their product. Nothing seems artificial in taste or appearance, and that makes you feel good even when you're indulging. Just for reference, my grandfather who is an absolute stickler with his low salt/low sugar/no dairy diet had 3 scoops!!! I was floored and, if you knew the man, that's all the advertisement this place would ever need. They have tons of seating inside, so we've always been able to find a place to accommodate any group size. They also have pints for sale if you decide you want to enjoy it elsewhere. Their employees are friendly and patient - never had an issue with service here. Parking can be annoying because their private lot in the back has limited spots (pro tip: be careful when entering and exiting because the steep ramp will wreck your car). read more

Surrounded by estates and houses built for the very wealthy, they make and serve up premium ice-cream in uniquely mixed flavors. The Happy Wife with vanilla pound cake, Follow Your Nose, City that Never Sleeps, Rain or Shine (lavender based), and Heart of Glass are among a dozen flavors that tantalize the taste buds. They also cater events and parties. And while they are open daily from Noon to 9:30, and 'til midnight on Fridays and Saturdays, they also make their business available for private parties from Monday thru Thursday. As far as the customer service, it is nothing memorable either way. The traffic of customers is ongoing, and finding a seat can be quite challenging. Also, their parking lot is pretty small, but you can always park across the way at another business. I don't know that we will specifically return when we're in town again, as it is quite far from our family's home, but as for this experience, it was delightful and we recommend them. read more

Then they allow you to taste test the ice cream before you decide on which flavor (s) to get. I didn't want a double scoop because it would be too much ice cream, but I couldn't decide between cereal milk and happy wife (cream with almond pound cake chunks). Their ice cream flavors are all unique and there's bound to be one (or more, or all of them) for everyone. We got there about 45 min to close, and they were out of their first three flavors. I tried a few, and ended up going with a third option after not loving my first two samples. I had the City That Never Sleeps, which was a coffee and pretzel base with chocolate flakes in it. I enjoyed the originality of the flavor. But the real show stealer was THE CONE. I almost didn't get one because they were so big (one size only), but the server told me she'd find a smaller one for me. That cone.
