Milk Sugar Love on McWilliams is a few doors down from my friend's favorite book shop in the area. We stopped by this cozy spot on the way to the movies for a walking sweet treat. The staff is nice and helped us with our two samples each. My friend opted to get the earl grey fudge and I got the dulce de leche. The ice cream is delightful with unique flavors and really nice consistency. Also appreciated that it's a more reasonably priced artisan ice cream at $6.05 a scoop. read more

I came here multiple times and I timed it when there were minimal lines. There will always be a way and it could be in the winter or in the summer and it's worth it. I've had the charcoal ice cream which is my favorite and also the hot chocolate read more

Where do I even begin. Milk Sugar Love is one of my favorite Ice cream shops in the world. Everything here is fresh and homemade. Im talking homemade sprinkles.... like everything is homemade. The ice cream is so delicious, the Alfajores n Cream, ,matcha Oreo, earl grey fudge are some of my families favorites. I frequent a 25 min drive just to come here and get ice cream. I love it here so much the owner is a gem too. read more

Everytime I visit Milk Sugar Love I want to do a little skip because of how good the ice cream is. I've been visiting for a little over a decade now and the cream quality is always consistently great, and the flavors continue to delight. It's definitely a step above other dessert shops and more creative than your classic vanilla, chocolate, butter pecan flavors you might get at a standard spot, which is great for folks like me who like anything but basic flavors. They rotate through 12 flavors but some of the standouts to me include honey lavender, matcha cookie, and earl grey fudge. They've always been generous about letting customers sample flavors (probably especially true if there's no line), and the team behind the counter is extra smiley and nice to kids and people with pups. It's just a friendly neighborhood ice cream spot that's stood the test of time for good reason! I always try to stop in when Im in JC. read more

We stopped in here after spending some time in the park directly across the street and this place was very cute and cozy, with unique flavors of ice cream being offered. I tried the Malt Ball ice cream, but we opted for the salted chocolate chip cookie, the magic bar, and the raspberry coffee cake. My favorite was the raspberry coffee cake. I wish the magic bar was thicker, with walnuts instead of the almonds. The service was simple, only one employee in there on a Saturday afternoon in spring. They had a photo opportunity for customers as well merch to purchase. read more

I'm so glad this place was able to maintain their business during COVID. I moved away for a couple of years and found myself craving their lemon olive oil gelato frequently. It was one of my first stops once I landed back in NJ in July. Their matcha flavors, especially the matcha brownie that they release every so often has me in a chokehold. The consistency is so creamy and always hits the spot on a summer day. read more

Tiny place that doesn't accommodate too many people but it's so cute and cozy and perfect for an ice cream stop in Jersey City. I've tried a whole bunch of ice cream shops in JC and I think this one's my favorite (now that Ample is gone). They have a nice charcoal ice cream, I found it very unique and has an interesting texture, although I generally mix it with another flavor. I've never tried but they also have an earl grey flavored ice cream. I also like their malted cookie flavor. Cute place next to Hamilton park with innovative flavors and great milkshakes. read more

Extremely expensive. They have cool funky flavors like earl grey lavender fudge, and banana bread. But I can't justify the serving size to the cost. 2 of the smallest scoops are a medium for $7. Sprinkles are $2. It's crazy. I tried it since my friend said it was good but I wasn't blown away. I rather have carvel to be honest. We also waited here for 20min to go in. I don't understand the lines or the craze. read more

Tl;dr: Hi Jeska, you're the best. It's good ice cream with funky flavors but jeez is it expensive. The malted cookie dough ice cream is the stuff from which dreams are made. The service is fucking IMPECCABLE. Namely, I just love Jeska--super hospitable and really nice. I've brought my whole family and she accommodated everyone extremely well. Whoever signs her checks, if you're reading: Give her a raise. The place itself is rather small and you have to wait outside. It's like the world's bougiest, most instagrammable hole-in-the-wall. I must not go at super busy times because I've never had to wait longer than like ten minutes. Look, I'll level with you: It's expensive. I find it to be worth it, as an occasional treat--even my friend who normally hates ice cream likes their stuff. If it's worth it is up to you, but I say if you have the money, it's a better deal than buying a cocktail downtown and is certainly less work on your liver. read more

My husband and I had dinner close by when we parked our car we saw a long line for Milk Sugar Love. We said if it was still open when we got out of dinner we should try it because it must be good if the line is so long. I'm so glad they were still open when we were done dinner. We just made it before they closed. The ice cream was amazing. I got the Alfajores 'n' cream and earl grey fudge in a birthday cake cone. Alfajores 'n' cream was my favorite and the cone was delicious. The earl grey fudge was nice but a bit floral. My husband got hazelnut chip and alfajores 'n' cream. The hazelnut chip was my husband's favorite. Definitely give them a try if you are nearby. read more

This place ALWAYS has a line around the corner. I went on a Wednesday night and luckily there was no line this time. My boyfriend ordered the midnight cocoa with a chocolate waffle cone. I didn't realize the midnight cocoa had charcoal in it. It was very rich and delicious. My hazelnut chip with regular waffle cone had a more subtle flavor. I think the chocolate waffle cone would've paired really well with this ice cream. There were other interesting flavors like early grey fudge and matcha Oreo that I want to come back and try! A star was docked because unfortunately the employee was not friendly at all. It was a little after 8 so I understand it was getting late and she was probably tired. But I felt a little awkward and felt like I couldn't ask her any questions about the different flavors even though it was my first time there. read more

This is our second time we've visited and the first time, they were closed and the woman there just glared at us the whole time because there wasn't any signage. Today, we also encountered another person tired and exhausted and not very nice. Anyways, we ordered the four scoop option: - earl grey fudge - that's where it's at. I've had quite a bit of earl grey in time of life and it's really deep and rich in flavor and lightly floral. - midnight cocoa has a gritty taste and almost tastes like hot cocoa in ice cream form. I wasn't a huge fan of this, but my friend loved it. - salted caramel was quite bitter for me and the salt tasted like the salted cream foam you get in bubble tea - honey lavender was quite sweet and really creamy. The lavender is extremely light. Definitely would buy a pint of just the earl grey fudge and nothing else. We also ordered two of the salted chocolate chip cookies and they tasted underdone and not as crispy as what the pictures looked like on their website. read more

I had the chocolate charcoal ice cream in a waffle cone. It was the first time I've tried charcoal in ice cream. The texture is really smooth and not too sweet. It was good, but the next time I think I'll go for the double chocolate flavor. The waffle cone was very fresh and crispy. You can't order through the window. Rather you have to do it online which is a little awkward. However, it is Covid safe. Everyone I was with loved their ice cream, too. This is a great location because there's a Cuban restaurant just steps away. And ice cream is a refreshing follow up to Cuban cuisine. read more

This is a good neighborhood ice cream shop with a bunch of unique flavors. I went with honey lavender and an almond ice cream with caramel swirls. The ice creams were way sweet for my palate but I did enjoy the flavors. Unfortunately they are not giving out samples. Went for a Yelp event to get a tinnnyy tinny MAC Daddy - a drop of ice cream in between two macarons with fruity pebbles cereal around it . Waited in a very long line outside for this lol. I don't think my opinion has changed of this place. Limited ice cream flavors. Creativity is interesting and limited but the flavors are just ok. The Mac daddy was nothing to brag about. People in the reviews said it taste just like the cereal. Lol yes it did but perhaps that was just because it was rolled in fruity "pebbles" ?? This tiny ice cream shop in Hamilton Park packed a huge surprise with their creative flavors and decadent ice creams! We tried the Earl Grey Chocolate Fudge flavor and WOW! I never thought that tea and chocolate could go so well as an ice cream flavor. They have about 8 flavors of ice cream as well as offer pints to buy and take home. Usually there is a line out the door. They only allow one party into the tiny shop at a time, so there usually is a line but the area is safe and nice. Keep in mind it's a take out spot, and no seating is available. We like to take our sweet treat to the park across the street and enjoy it there. read more

I have been wanting to try this place for too long and finally the day has come! One of the reasons I haven't tried until now is cuz they just have so many interesting flavors and I have let decision paralysis get the better of me lol! I was contemplating between Earl Grey Fudge Ice Cream Pint and Honey Lavender Ice Cream Pint. Felt tea-y at the last moment so I went with Earl Grey. I loved it!!! - It was totally my cup of tea! Just the right balance of tea scent and sweet cream, you can see the small specks of tea leaves and swirls of ice cream. Not much fudge, which I actually prefer - I wouldn't mind if there weren't any fudge at all. Fun fact: I don't know if it's the caffeine from Earl Grey or I'm just too excited reminiscing the flavor, I was up almost all night after a whole pint of this ice cream. So if you're looking for a Red Bull alternative, this is the one for you! LOL read more

Great place to stop by for a delicious treat. I would say about 10-15 different flavors to choose from and all very unique, not the typical flavors which I love! I got the build your own sandwich - with vanilla ice cream and chocolate chip cookies and rainbow sprinkles. It was super delicious!! The cookie was freshly baked and soft and gooey. The ice cream was also solid. Def gonna go back to check out the other flavors. Super cute decorations inside as well!! read more

Cute ice cream shop. My friends and I wanted to get the Mac Daddy I e cream sandwich at the street fair in Jersey City but it was sold out there so we went to the store location. Location is a long strip that's really white filled with ice cream. Not much seating and the ice cream sandwiches were in a fridge. Mac daddy ice cream sandwich: was delicious! It was $6 but worth because if the milkness of the ice cream. The sandwich tasted like a macaron and the Mac daddy was like fruity pebbles. A cute hole in the wall ice cream and cookies spot that has lovely customer service and delicious choices to choose from. The smallest size, one scoop, can be two flavors. Recommendations: Earl grey fudge ice cream Honey lavender ice cream They take credit card. Wow! First time in to this sweet JC ice cream shop. The strawberry ice cream is AMAZING! Bursting with strawberry flavor.. the vanilla milkshake was really good too. The young women behind the counter was huffy and unfriendly. My review is teetering between 3 and 4 stars. I cannot necessarily say I am a fan (yet). I've been eyeing Milk Sugar Love for a while now and finally got the chance to visit. I placed my order online which was super easy as they take Apple Pay. They text you when your order is received and when it is ready. To my understanding, orders are not to be placed in person only online. When I went to pick up my order, there were 2 other people ahead of me ordering in person which took up time to pick up my order since I received the text that it was ready. Also, because it was ice cream I wanted to get it right away. After about 20 to 25 minutes of the people ordering ahead, I was next to pick up my order just for the lady to say it was no where to be found. She kindly asked me for my order again and made it on the spot. I think I was waiting for a total 35 to 40 minutes all together for ice cream while my bf was waiting in the car. It was also FREEZING out! Yes, I am sympathetic for employees working with short staff but that wait was way too long especially since I ordered online. Now to the good part... I ordered 3 scoops in a cup with brownie bites and a cone on top. Between the honey lavender, matcha oreo and Alfajores 'N' Cream. Yes, I mixed them all together because I was excited LOL but I was able to properly taste all 3 to see which one I liked. The honey lavender and matcha oreo would've been great alone as the lavender and matcha are both strong flavors. Unfortunately, I wasn't a fan of the honey lavender but I love how they have it as an option as it is unique! My favorite was the Alfajores 'N' Cream which has light buttery cookies filled with dulce de leche and rolled in coconut; SO GOOD! The brownie bites and cone on top were a bit too much so next time i'll know to scale it back a bit. I will be back to try other flavors hopefully in the summer time! read more

This place certainly brings back memories living back in Jerz. After years in the scene, I was pleasantly surprised that they were still around when I recently went back home to visit. Craving delicious dessert, my nephew decided that the only way to satiate that craving would be to fill it with some MSL goodness. I was floored when he said that because I was half-expecting the place to have faded with the sunset, but it looks like it is still carrying on strong. I'm also wondering why I have never written a review of this incredible ice cream-haven after all these years--the first visit I can recall was sometime back in 2014--but I'm here to rectify that. With such unique flavors that are lovingly made, you really can't go wrong with what whatever your heart desires. The few that come to mind that I've had are Nutella, Thai tea, and caramel flan. Each bite is an exercise in restraint as in you have to restrain yourself from skipping along on the sidewalk like a cheesy romantic comedy movie. Anyways, I digress. The point is I've been a fan of MSL and it brightens my day that they're still around, just as I know that they will brighten your day when you pay them a visit to try their delicious concoction. read more

Get: Lemon Olive Oil Ice Cream I've been meaning to come here for the longest time. I'm excited to write my first review during the pandemic! Oh how I've missed yelping and trying out new restaurants... Milk Sugar and Love has such a cute, white-painted exterior. Long windows allow you to peer into the magic that is an ice cream shop. The shop has a cute pink and white awning and white benches to enjoy your treats. You wait outside and one person or party can enter inside to pick out flavors. The outside has designated waiting lines on the ground so that everyone can wait distantly. Alternatively there is also a window where you can just place your order (kinda like Rita's) and receive your creamy concoction. We opted to go inside and just being inside made me so happy! They have classic and deliciously unique options. I had trouble picking between Cherry Mascarpone, Earl Grey Fudge, Honey Lavender and Lemon Olive Oil. In the end I went with the two later in a cup. (If you live nearby you can also get their ice cream by the pint). The Honey Lavender was a bit lackluster for me. The honey was strong and the lavender was a little bit weak. I like my lavender flavored food to go right up to the line where it starts tasting like soap but not quite there yet. High risk, high reward lol. This flavor missed the mark for me. The winner was the Lemon Olive Oil! The lemon was bright and lifted the ice cream and then the olive oil kicks in, providing a beautiful ending note, like a parachute, gently bringing the flavor home. Milk Sugar Love Creamery & Bakeshop is churning delightfully delicious ice cream, cakes and baked goods using grass-fed, organic dairy and local New Jersey produce. We serve 12 ice cream flavors daily at the shop, with our top four available every day: Vanilla Bean, Salted Caramel, Classic Chocolate and Lemon Olive Oil. History

Established in 2013.

We started with a single cart, making small batches of ice cream using organic, grass-fed milk and cream and all the best New Jersey produce. And now we've opened our store right on beautiful Hamilton Park in Jersey City where we can serve our flavor-forward, handmade ice cream and sweets every day.

Meet the Business Owner: Emma T.

I have loved ice cream forever. I grew up going to Ocean City, New Jersey in the summer and enjoying my favorite Kohr's Brothers Custard with rainbow jimmies. I am lucky my birthday falls in June because my cake of choice has always been, and always will be, an ice cream cake. When I decided to go back to school to become a pastry chef, I knew that my goal was to open a modern ice cream shop. I churn flavors inspired by my love of travel and my experience working in restaurants. I use only fresh organic milk and cream not only because of the rich taste, but because organic means the cows are able to graze on grass that has not been treated with pesticides and the cows themselves have not been treated with either hormones or antibiotics. I chose my shop's name because ice cream, in its simplest form, is milk, sugar, and as with all truly great food, love.
