I am a novice runner in my mid-50's, running three or four 5k's per year. I stopped by the store on a Saturday. Before I could even get to the counter, Josh welcomed me, and asked me how he could help? I had previously picked out my own running shoes, based on my online research. Josh listened to my tale, put me on the treadmill, showed me the recording, and explained why I was using the wrong type of shoe. He then brought the correct version of the brand I was using. Additionally, he had an alternative brand... and then brought out another one with gel, and two more that were wider. Incredible service, and price was never mentioned... getting the right shoe, that I was comfortable with, was most important to Josh. Once I picked the shoes, he talked with me about the IT Band issue that I was having in one leg. I ended up getting a Trigger Point ball, and it was exactly as Josh explained. I bought a shoes for my wife and it was little big for her. I went back and they told me it's not returnable. They did not tell me when I was buying it. I had to buy something else that I did not need and paid more money. Also service was very bad she told me thanks for understanding at the end with a sarcastic way. I'm just starting out running but even I knew I needed better shoes than the beater Nikes I bought at Kohls ten years ago. I am anxious and body conscious, so I was a nervous about going to a specialty store and the scrutiny of a gait analysis. I'm so glad I sucked it up and went, because the folks here were super friendly and helpful. I didn't feel like I was being talked down to, or oversold on a shoe I didn't need. Mill City Running is my new favorite running store. Bekah and Heather were so incredibly welcoming and genuinely interested in helping me find a new pair of running shoes and Cross Fit shoes. Even though I tried on several pairs, several times (even running up and down the block to make my final selection) they were knowledgable, helpful and fun the entire time. I had been having issues with a hamstring injury that I could not get over, I stopped into Mill City Running in order to pick up a foam roller and was helped by Bekah who asked me about my injury and made great suggestions on how to get better. She even suggested a less expensive foam roller ball for my leg as she had heard better results from this than the more expensive alternatives. She then spoke with me about some extra body weight exercises that I should try in order to strengthen and stretch out my hamstring at the same time. I started completing the exercises and after about a week I have had 2 of the best runs that I have had in over month! The great service and large selection of clothes and shoes will definitely bring me back into the store once I get fully healthy again. Bekah even invited me to come on Wednesdays and Fridays for a free group run once my leg was feeling better! This store had great service from start to finish and this will definitely bring me back into the store for all of my running apparel needs. read more

Just bought my first pair of real running shoes from here - the experience was great. A friend who ran cross country at the U of MN recommended to store to me. Very helpful staff, well organized store, and their fit process was excellent (they analyzed how I walk, filmed me running, and discussed the results with me before bringing out any shoes). I highly recommend getting your next pair of running shoes at Mill City Running. I bought my new Newton's Lady Isaac shoes from here just over a month ago and I have never owned a pair of running shoes that fits my running style and feet so perfectly. I would have NEVER been able to find such a great shoe without the help of the wonderful staff at Mill City Running. I have already sent two of my friends to them as well and they have also been really amazed at the service this place provides. Their staff does a thorough analysis of your feet and gate before even putting you in a pair of shoes. Then once you find a pair or two that you really like you can run in them outside or on the treadmill in the store. If you run on the treadmill they take a video of you and then play it back in slow-mo so you really see how you're running, it's pretty amazing to see how much difference a really well fitting pair of shoes makes in your running. After too much back and bunion pain (the double Bs), I went into Mill City Running to find shoes for two upcoming races. Jeff helped me for a solid 30-45 minutes until we found the right shoe (the first one I had originally tried on!) and was patient, kind, and knowledgeable. After 3 long runs I couldn't believe my pain was GONE. I can't imagine a better staff or more community-centered running store. A few weeks ago, my hubby and I stopped in Mill City Running because this was the place to pick up our packets for the Foodie Four Mile race. We ended up picking up more than just our packets! WOW! We have been in several running stores because of our love of running and racing, but none have been like Mill City Running. The owners, Jeff and Bekah, go above and beyond to help their customers. My husband and I had no intentions of buying new running shoes as we both had bought some recently. But that didn't matter. Jeff still took the time to go through the extensive shoe fitting process. He didn't rush. He took his time and explained everything about the process to both my husband and I and even let us try on the recommended shoes based on his assessment. I was seriously floored. Neither Jeff or Bekah rushed us out of the store. They were both genuine, down-to-earth, friendly, professional and very knowledgeable. We were both impressed. Even though we didn't buy shoes, we did end up buying some other stuff. And when it is time to buy new shoes, you can bet we will go back there to do it! First of all, I am not a runner. However, I stopped into the store yesterday over lunch looking for some new shoes. I am trying to be more active and thought some new comfortable shoes would do the trick! Well, yes indeed - it did! Heather greeted me immediately and what was to follow was, ah-mazing. I told her about my issues with sesamoiditis and terrible plantar fasciitis. She listened carefully and knew exactly what kinds of shoes to bring out. Six pairs of shoes later, a video of me walking on the treadmill, and some jumping up and down - new shoes. Boom! If you're willing to spend 30 minutes and spend some quality time trying some things on then this is your place. And don't pay attention to price! I actually narrowed my choices down to two pairs and one was on deal, but I still decided to get the more expensive pair since they felt so, oo la la. Frankly, the service is unparalleled and the last time I had such a great experience was at Nordstrom. FIVE STARS for this gem of a store. I will definitely be back. I wanted to write to you all to say thank you so much for such excellent service! Recently I was in your store and purchased a pair of shoes. I had researched your store online and what led me there was not just the fact that it was convenient to my house ( I live in North Minneapolis), but that someone could actually be video recorded running to help assess what shoe they should be in and that they could actually run in the shoes while trying them before purchasing them! To me this was the selling point! I was ENCOURAGED to run in every shoe that I tried on and to take my time! This led me to the shoe that I have and I am very thankful for it! I also saw that your staff are not just about selling shoes, but are about promoting the running experience. I discerned this as I was there I was able to ask some of my questions on running form etc. and get very thorough, practical advice! Love it! More than that, my sister informed me that she too was looking for running shoes. She lives in Duluth, MN and was in town this week. I told her she needed to check out Mill City Running. At first she was hesitant because she normally buys shoes at a general sports store and pays far less, but I told her it was worth it! Just yesterday she went to your store with my dad, and RAVED about the service she received! She said she was in your store for over an hour trying on shoes and received Excellent Service! I generally really like this store and the knowledgeable staff, but the reps are not very friendly during the return process. On two returns, I've had that experience. As a new runner, I was very intimidated by my husband's suggestion to go to a REAL running store, but I sucked it up and went anyway. Best decision ever! I was greeted immediately and handed over to Cley, who went right to work, evaluating my walking/running form, and explaining in detail the type of shoe I needed. He NEVER made me feel ignorant or like a newbie, and was very patient and helpful the entire time. After bringing out a dozen or more pairs of shoes, I was gradually able (with his help) to find the perfect pair for me. I just ran 6.25 miles in them today and felt like I was floating on air.
