We had our wedding here in October and loved it! The 'Cascade room' ballroom was beautiful and the big windows let in a lot of lovely sunlight during the sunset. One of the facility attendants, LaDale, was a huge help to us during our wedding planning process AND on the day-of, so we could not be more grateful for such fantastic staff. Make note that the lobby area of the community center remains a public space even if you book the room, so depending on the day of booking, you may have to deal with some foot traffic around your wedding decorations! We had a pool party there and it was epic! All our kids had so much fun together with the water slide, and it was safe with all the lifeguards on staff. Came here for a wedding 2 weeks ago on a Friday, the ceremony was held at Old Mill Park ~10 mins away and then the reception was held here for dinner from 6-10pm. Pros: - Easy parking lot, thankfully the couple rented out the whole venue on a Saturday night so it wasn't too bad. - Pretty large venue hall! The wedding had 150+ people and it was not crowded at all, there were probably 15-20 tables of 8-10 people and there was still enough room for a dance floor. - Can be really beautiful if you have a really good decorating team! The venue hall is very bare but lots of potential - we had room for 2 photo booths, a buffet dinner area, an area for the DJ stand. - I've heard the service is super great regarding the staff - Has a decent front area through the double doors where your wedding party / couple can enter Cons: - as a wedding venue I feel like it wasn't 100% ideal due to the soccer field and other public people being nearby for non-wedding things. Update: It is clear that the MVCC pool is working hard on consistency amongst swim coaches. Ex: Kai and Emily have an excellent tone, understanding and awareness of their groups. The lifeguards are also consistently ready, scanning and spotting the water for any signs of potential distress or tiredness from swimmers. I saw this first hand today during a swim lesson happening parallel to my child's lesson. I saw the child swim far w/ coach watching and get tired then grab the rope. The lifeguard and I were watching intently. As a mom, I'm saying aloud she's getting tired, she's getting tired. The lifeguard already at edge of pool about to assist but her coach reacted swiftly and the situation was resolved. I've been to this community center for other events in the evening, such as meetings and fairs. When I received a wedding invitation scheduled for this venue, I seriously didn't know how the community center would host a formal wedding, without the presence and sound of soccer practices outdoors, and the lingering office ambiance indoors. Boy, was I wrong! For one thing, the ambiance for this afternoon wedding was refreshingly different and classy at this familiar community center I know. As the wedding and reception took place beginning at 2 pm on a Sunday afternoon, its many glass doors were pulled open to the slight breeze outdoors. White wooden folding chairs adorned the white linen graced rectangular tables. Natural centerpieces graced each table, and a white pergola stood as a focal point at the head of the ballroom. The afternoon grounds were delightfully empty of sports crowds and families. Furthermore, there was a relaxed and pleasant air of anticipation as the ministers and worship team prepared, as the barista set up in the lobby, and as wedding attendants signed in the guest book at a beautifully decorated mantle table leading to the ballroom. Vintage couches and chairs tastefully sprawled lobby and the ballroom outskirts. I almost didn't recognize this community center as a ethereal wedding venue this day. My goddaughter's first love and wedding to a youth minister was such a touching and wonderful event. During the ceremony, the glass doors were pulled in for formal reverence, and the double doors dramatically closed then opened to the bride's march with her parents. Since the community center was spacious and airy, the venue was versatile for people to hush out with their whimpering babies, slip out for a smoke, or quickly run to the restroom without disturbing the rest of the event. I believe the bride & groom picked the perfect time of day on a slow but breezy Sunday afternoon for their wedding event. Last time left just an okay review, but change my mind, this place is cool! Very helpful receptionist with goggles available for use. A 30-day PASS for $67; what a steal. Glad they're being so generous with that incredible, three-lane swimming pool (good hot tub too.) Smart to add a gym for when the pool is in use. Liked the rowing machine. Guy grunted too much (not paying to listen to that come on, man.) However, not a gym guy anyway just there for swimming. They have snacks. Got a lime-flavored water and have to say it was really good would have had another one. Swam my 24 laps easily and enjoyed myself. Also, nice pool shower. Overall really really cool, affordable experience. You got a Benjamin hey don't gotta blow it on alcohol or drugs, can come here! What's also neat is this place is technically administered by the city GOVERNMENT, but bet you knew that cool fact. Wow... an official swimming pool. This place a true gem. It's been a lifesaver through COVID, providing me the ability to keep up my fitness and feel that I'm a part of a community. The gym is clean and spacious, the majority of the instructors are top-notch and holding classes outside it lovely and safe during these times. The grounds are pretty and there's a variety of activities for all ages. The only areas for improvement would be to add a canopy for the outdoor classes, to protect us from the sun and hopefully from rain, too. And, add more class slots before working hours. I know people who'd like to take classes here, but they don't have a flexible work schedule. The facility doesn't promote the classes, which are very small. It's several steps up from the very pricey gym that I previously belonged to in Mill Valley. I'm really glad I found out about this facility. read more

I first heard of Mill Valley for that is where Muir Woods is & always thought I would head there to experience Muir Woods yet I recently ended up at Mill Valley as I went to the Mill Valley Community Center to see Jai Uttal perform a kirtan. This was the second time I saw Jai Uttal perform kirtan as last month I saw him in San Francisco at a yoga studio w/ a smaller three piece band. This time he had a full seven piece band as they went through many songs off of his new double LP "Roots Rock Rama!" The Mill Valley show & San Francisco one were both wonderful yet different experiences like comparing an acoustic set to an electric one perhaps. Me & my friend arrived right on time a few minutes before the show started. Luckily we were able to find a parking spot as the lot was pretty full. We were able to sit on the floor close the stage. The show featured an opener that looped vocal sound effects live through a recorder & performed through unique songs including one which he called "James Brown meets Jesus Christ". The actual set Jai Uttal & his band did lasted nearly three hours. The venue was pretty packed full. Daniel Paul who was at the San Francisco show was here again & is a master tabla player yet felt the full drum set overpowered the sound of his tabla. As a result he didn't play tabla that much instead played harmonica & sang. There was also another drummer, two female back up vocalists, a bass player, an electric guitar player, & Jai Uttal who did lead vocals along w/ acoustic guitar plus his harmonium. The music was great & the energy was high yet the best thing about the show was many people in the audience got up to dance. Boy could they dance as some of them most have been professional dancers as they had some moves. It felt like I was on the set of a Tracy Ullman episode as the gentleman in front of me casually walked up to the dance floor. He went onto bust out moves like Christopher Walken in Fatboy Slim's Weapon of Choice music video. There was also a woman who must have been a professional flamenco dancer. Good vibes here & glad I went. I would surely return to the Mill Valley Community Center to attend another kirtan or event. Mill Valley has plenty of greenery w/ lush trees & hills adding to a nice place to escape the hustle bustle of city life in the East Bay. read more

My partner and I had our wedding here this summer and it is a great venue! Asiele was super helpful and made sure that our slideshow worked even though our laptop wasn't connecting to their projector. This venue can be turned into pretty much whatever theme you would like, but be prepared to rent chairs and everything else because tables and some old looking fabric chairs are the only things included. This is the first wedding venue my partner and I looked at and after visiting several others we realized this place fit us best - due to the location and the included use of the kitchen. We liked that we could bring in our own caterer and serve exactly the kind of food we wanted. This review is for a the large room, where we attended a wedding. It was very functional--easy parking, tables for about 140 guests, plus a dance area, and lots of space for the bridal party, photo booth, desserts, etc. Traffic flow was mostly okay as people entered via the bar set up outside, and food was also set up on the small patio. There were a few sound system glitches, but that might have been the DJ's equipment. The restrooms are just outside the banquet room--if other events are going on, you might be sharing with kids fresh from swim lessons. I read in other reviews that the cost to rent the entire center isn't that much more, then your guests don't have to worry about parking, sharing space with tiny mermaids, etc. All in, the room was very nice and is what you make it in terms of decorating the tables and wall at the front. Also, do rent the kitchen, if possible. The caterers had a misunderstanding regarding who was responsible for heating the steam trays, so the food was served cold. If they had paid for kitchen access, the guests would have enjoyed warm dinners. A minor detail in an otherwise beautiful party! read more

We used Mill Valley Community Center for our wedding in July 2022. We rented the Cascade room for the reception and did the ceremony at Old Mill Park. Cost was reasonable, and they allow you to bring any caterer and bartending that you want. They don't really talk to you during the planning process unless you hit them up first, but that was fine. We sent them the layout for tables and chairs and they set up for us on time. They were responsive to my inquiries whenever I had them. I found it really convenient that they're open during the week for other purposes, so I could call and see if the room was open to come scope out a few times during the planning process as I was determining what I wanted the place to look like. read more

The Center is modern, has a large parking lot, clean bathrooms, and apparently different sized rooms. I attended a small meeting with 10 people over a period of two days. My main complaint was noise from the upstairs area. It sounded like kids were running around. I don't know if anyone else was bothered by it but I found it very distracting. read more

The exercise part of this center needs help. It is too crammed now and floor exercising is dangerous with even a small number of people. If you don't mind being cheek to jowl with Marin-types, good luck. Just make sure you keep your feet in shoes as the bathroom and shower is kinda filthy usually with a bacteria smell. read more

This place truly embodies the best of Mill Valley and does so much to bring the community together. Although I'm not a member, I've played soccer on their fields; I've attended weddings here; I've I've walked my dog along their gorgeous waterfront paths; and I recently started taking a weekly dance class in their upstairs gym. This is one of the nicest facilities of its kind around. Welcoming staff; well maintained gym/pool/recreational grounds. Best of all, and most importantly for Mill Valley, everything here is very family friendly. My only complaint is the registration process for some of their classes. When I wanted to enroll in the swing dance class, the instructions were very confusing. I wasn't allowed to sign up over the phone. And there was no website where I could go to give my credit card. I literally had to arrive before the first class and sign up in person. Seems like a dated system that could benefit from a 2016 upgrade. But all in all, Mill Valley (heck - ALL of Marin) is very lucky to have this community center in its backyard! read more

My job is to eat. No, seriously. That's what I get paid to do. Consume, pretty much from 8am until 5pm. Food, food, food. Eat, eat, eat. I lead a rough existence. As good as that sounds to my friends, my lovers, my parents; it's actually pretty much this not naturally thin girl's nightmare. So, you see my predicament... Fortunately I live within walking distance of the Mill Valley Community Center, where for the bargain price of $7, I can use their lap pool to swim off the accumulating fat on my ass that the Bundt Cakes, S'mores, Pomegranate Cocktails, Mac & Cheese and Fried Potato Salad that work made me eat that day is causing. You have to shower before you go in the pool. House rules. It's clean and sterile, and kids rarely pee in this pool, because they are Mill Valley stock, and Mill Valley stock are taught that peeing in the pool is bad form and way too low brow for the likes of Southern Marin. What the lifeguard doesn't know about me is that I grew up in San Rafael. All those silly peeing and showering rules don't apply here, folks. read more

My experience at the MVCC was in terms of renting the facility for a wedding, not as an actual gym member. MVCC did an absolutely abysmal job in terms of securing the location for my family's wedding. The day of the rehearsal (less than 24 hours before the actual ceremony) we were told there was going to be the Southern Marin Bronco's having their football practice 25 feet from the location of the ceremony! The facilities coordinator was very unhelpful, had little information or alternatives for us to work with - essentially told us we had to deal with it. THE DAY OF THE WEDDING, they held a water carnival on the grass where our ceremony was to be held, turning it into muddy slush. Again provided little alternative or help. The complete lack of organization in terms of scheduling events, the disregard for ceremony and professionalism, along with little to no recompense (except for some financial reimbursement) makes me strongly unrecommend this place for a private function. read more

I'm rating this place in terms of the rental facilities. I rented it for my wedding in June. I know this is an overdue review but I've been busy. The reason for the 3 stars is because of what happened the day of the rental. I had rented out the space for the whole so my caterer can use the kitchen and to set up. However when my brother and my future husband when to drop off the alcohol the blue ugly chairs where out. When I specially told them 2 days before that I will not be using them because I'm renting out chairs. My brother and husband to be had to remove the chairs by themselves because they did not help them at all. Once I got to the reception I they're ugly sofas in the lobby were still there when I had discuss with them that I wanted those to be removed. Everything that I had asked them to and they had agreed to wasn't met. The only thing they got right was the rental date. Please be warned if renting from them expect them to have everything wrong and for you to everything yourself. read more

This is a great Gym! It's very hard to get much information on this place and I assume it's because Mill Valley residents would rather not have it get too crowded. So, share this tip wisely. At 180 Camino Alto in the building behind the one with the front desk there's a pool and gym and ballet/yoga space. It's clean, bright and very friendly. They have enough cardio machines to serve their needs, most of the universal weight equipment (which i don't use but it's there) and free weights. Not a lot of space for stretching or floor work but during the day the studio just off the gym is free and offers a ton of extra floor space. The dance class I attended here was superb. They seem to draw from the Roco dance teachers. The other thing to mention is this place is really affordable but is much nicer than the Y. I spent a year checking out both the swanky places like the Bay Club as well as the smaller gyms around Marin and this is the only one that really appealed to me. The staff and the people working out here are down to earth and friendly. And that concludes my 400th review. read more

Strictly in regards to the preschool program: We are pretty broke, so this was the cheapest option local to us. Let's just say you get what you pay for. I'm sure it's lovely for little ones, as long as they are small, perfectly behaved, and white. If your kiddo does not fit in that mold, the teacher will hold them accountable for every kid-to-kid squabble and try to tell you your kid is broken because he is affectionate and lively. Of course, they won't say anything about it until they are telling you to withdraw the lil one, and will lie up and down about how communicative they were throughout the semester. There are some wonderful teachers assistants, but the actual teacher was incompetent, uncommunicative and ultimately vindictive. read more

I attended an event here and I have to say for a community center it is a pretty place. Very spacious with blond wood pergo flooring clean bathrooms and waiting area. If a person was considering a wedding here it would be a good spot because they have ample parking, nice reception area and a large rental room with huge windows. I come here most Fridays with special needs clients to go swimming. The lifeguards (especially the one with the beard) are super nice and the other patrons tend to be patient and understanding. My only complaint is that the family changing room is often occupied by one person and it's hard for those with special needs to understand why they have to wait. The management won't support what the sign on the door says, that the elderly and disabled should use the accessible amenities in the regular locker rooms so families and the disabled with opposite gender care givers can have a place to change, too. read more

Had a children's pool party here for $325 (fully payable on booking - including "refundable" deposit they have yet to return) - just for a room, no staff, decoration, supplies, or help. They insisted on 4 "swimming" adults with the party - so I had to hire help, then there were no fewer than 4 lifeguards there yelling at the kids. Kids were banned from the waterslide for rolling over, if they didn't move away in less than a second, or if they walked fast by the pool. No towels; you have to buy them for $5 each. Hot tub was broken and no rebates on the party fee for that. Not allowed into room until 15 min before party and kicked out 10 min before end; that was the only time we ever saw a staffer. Swimming is very important to me. The pool here was a life saver on various occasions! It's a therapeutic pool so the temperature is a beautiful 90°F, at least that's what the lifeguard told me. It feels nice and warm. There's a lot of chlorine however and besides it feeding my bathing suit's, it could really irritate my eyes and even sometimes a bit of respiratory problem. San Diego has so many more pools to choose from, I wish Marin people were into swimming like they are down south. read more

DON'T EVER RENT THIS FACILITY!!! Dealing with Seth the rental facility coordinator was awful. He's eager to collect the funds for their overpriced facility but when it comes to actually meeting the standards he promises, he fails miserably. I came by the facility twice to meet with him only to have the front desk tell me he was too busy. I requested 15 minutes of setup time and he told me that I needed to pay for it. CLASSLESS!!! Seth failed to mention that there was a very large memorial service going on right across the way. He booked my son's birthday party right across from a memorial service for a young mother. How tasteless on his part. So disrespectful towards the memorial service. I can't imagine how horrified their guests must have been to have 5 year old kids right across the way laughing and running around. Because he failed to mention the size of the service, the parking lot was completely full. ALL of my guests including myself, had to park either in the middle school, gas station and as far as the Cantina. When we arrived to the room, it was disgusting. The sinks were dirty, the carpeted floor was disgusting. All the ugly chairs and couch and other crap they had in the room were NOT removed as I requested. My guests asked the maintenance guys to borrow a vacuum cleaner and started cleaning up the facility and moving all that stuff out of the room as guests kept arriving. I was in tears. When I finally sent an email to Seth, 2 days after the event asking him to respond, he didn't even bother replying. Reading all the prior posts about this place and the event coordinator, looks like I'm not alone. If you're looking for a place to rent, find a place where the people can accommodate you the way they promise you to. Because if you rent here expect something to go wrong. read more
