There's nothing like the disbelief of walking out of Lucky Food Store in San Bruno pushing a full basket of groceries to discover your Honda Accord was stolen while you were inside. It was my daily beater to drive back and forth work, nothing special, a 1990 Honda Accord for crying out loud, albeit in immaculate shape and still looked like it was new, it was 22 years old with over a 100K miles! Who in the hell rips off a 22 year old four door "has been" soccer mom rice burner sedan??? WTF? Pissed off didn't even begin to describe my feelings when I realized it was in fact gone. In my mind I thought maybe I had been towed or something and after being assured by everyone in a manager's uniform that they didn't tow my car I called the police. Literally two minutes after I called a familiar Black and White pulls up. The cop gets out and says "Honda, Acura or Beemer", I said Honda and he then explained to me that most Hondas can be opened and started with any Honda key by simply wiggling them in the locks. He also accurately deduced I didn't have a club style steering wheel lock. I was starting to feel like a dumbass for a couple of reasons. One for not having a club and two for driving a friggin Honda. The reason for this review was just how cool this cop was. After taking the report, I pushed my basket of groceries back inside and the manager said they would keep it safe till I got back. Seeing me walking across the parking lot heading home to get my other car he pulled up and asked me if I need a ride to my house in San Bruno. Along the way he said "Don't worry, it'll turn up abandoned somewhere or we'll pull them over. Honda thieves can't drive for shit and tend to freak out when the police get anywhere near them". I just thought he was trying to make feel better and said "Thanks" when I got out. Personally I never thought I would see the car again. It wasn't a major loss. Grand worth was about $2K I guess. No biggie in the overall scheme of life. Fast forward to 1:30 am that night, phone rings and the San Bruno Police is on the line "We have your car pulled over here in Tanforan, this guy claims you loaned your car to him" After establishing that I didn't know this guy, he said "If you want to come get it, I can hold it till you get here" (different cop). I explained it would take me about 15-20 minutes and they said "no problem". When I asked them how they found it, I just had to smile when the police officer said, "this guy saw me coming and made a hard right from the far left lane with no signal on Sneath running a red, so I stopped him". Apparently the officer from earlier was dead on the money when he said Honda thieves are bad drivers and freak out when they see the police. FYI, I did try the key wiggle maneuver after I got it back and sure as hell, no matter what Honda key I used, I could "wiggle open and start it". Needless to say, I have a Club now LOL. Twice now Officer C. Anisho has ticketed me back to back days, May 13th and 14th. The space between the street and the front of my bumper is exactly 2' (two feet), but yet i was ticketed for $50 twice. I've literally been parking in my own driveway with my truck for the past 3 years and only once before was i harassed. Not even the common courtesy to knock on my door when they could see me through the window that i was home. What an absolute joke that "code enforcement" such as this is a priority to the city of San Bruno, when why don't they focus on more impending issues? Like the homeless vagrants who live in Forest Lane Park or underneath the 380 overpass between my neighborhood and Tanforan. Or maybe even the transient trash that comes off of Bart and walks our neighborhoods and streets. Nope let's go around and harass our good citizens. I could completely understand if, indeed my truck was somehow impeding the public walkways, but literally 2' of clearance to walk in front of my truck while it's parked in my personal driveway is absurd. I'm happy to see my tax dollars at work. This is harassment and i will not stand for it!

What I like: - indoor/outdoor pools have set times for lap/open swim - splash pad is great for kids, no deeper than 1 ft in the deepest part - Multi-use court for basketball, pickleball, volleyball - Weight room has machines for major muscle groups and dumbbells (up to 50lbs) - Friendly staff and clean facilities - Studio rooms with mirrors for classes/stretching - Indoor track is great for jogging and has space for bodyweight exercises What I tolerate: - Idk if this is their job or not, but lifeguards don't enforce swim lane speeds when it's busy - Track is best for light jogs, not sprints or trying to PR mile. The turns are not "sharp", but the faster you run the more effort you put in to slow down - Weight room is beginner-friendly but limited in equipment and weight, dumbbells only up to 50lbs so you can't really test your strength here. Overall, it's a solid community fitness center, not perfect, but great for staying active.

They did not try to stop the swimmer or blow the whistle to alert me, and they never even checked in on me or speak to the other swimmer after the incident. Furthermore, during recreation swims they seemingly do not care about basic safety rules. They allow small children in the deep end with lifejackets, and basically just stand around the entire time. I would not count on them to keep you very safe.

My first contact was a female CBP officer. While she was generally alright, she sent me to secondary clearance. I explained to her the reason why I had been staying outside of the country (this time 130 days) was because of my mom. My mom had late Parkinson's and her days are numbered. As my mother's daughter who had not spent much time with her for 20+ years, only to travel to pay her a visit once a year, I felt a duty to now spend as much time as I can. My greatest regret in life was not able to see my dad in his last few days of life. Still, I tried my best to maintain my permanent card status. I do not stay out of the country for more than 180 days. It was something a previous CBP officer confirmed, no staying outside the country for more than 180 days. I always come back and not violate that time frame. No, she had to send me to hell. Why? I met the most aggressive and condescending CMP officer. I was shaken inside, his questioning left me with PTSD. He reminded me of my abusive ex, putting me down and making false accusation. He wanted me to pay $695. I did not understand why. I was thinking why USCIS and now CBP kept trying to ask me for money?? I applied for a I131 re-entry permit in 2023 but was denied in 2024 because they claimed I was not in the country when I applied for the permit. I was in the country but already left when USCIS received the application in the mail. The US Embassy in Singapore was the one who advised me to quickly applied online when I was physically in America. That was one of the requirement to apply for a re-entry permit. That permit would let me stay out for a period of 2 years without having to travel back. So to appeal for the denial would cost me $100 more than if I reapply again. I reapplied again when I was back in March 2025, and the average processing time is 15 months. So that was the story. No, he did not care. He even went on to accuse me of not staying in the country full time since 2013. I was shocked, I like no that could not be. I only moved to Singapore in 2023. It has always been a temporary move. He raised his voice even more, said that was what in my record. I was dumbfounded. I knew better not to argue, just like those times with my ex. I would stay silent for the wrath that followed would be too much to bear. He went into an office behind after asking me to go sit down. Then I heard his conversation with his supervisor. At one point, I heard his supervisor asked the CBP office what was my reason. He responded "she said her mother is sick." The supervisor loudly said "Everyone said that!" By this time I was disgusted, cos don't these people have mothers? The officer also told his supervisor I had been only living in this country for a month since 2013. Soon the CBP officer came out and called me over. Again, he reprimanded me and said I had been in violation, and I had not been living in this country much since 2013. He asked again when my mom got sick, I said around 2021-2022. Finally he said something referring to my travel records. He said "Okay I read backwards." So yes, I did not as what he claimed earlier, i.e. only stayed in this country for a month every year since 2013. Of course I would not expect any CBP office to apologize even when they made a mistake. Seeing that I was not eager to pay the $695 (I still do not know what that was for), he said okay he would give "this" (referring to this stack of printed guidelines) for free. He went on and said from now on I would have to pay $695 every time I come back to America. I did not understand why I was being treated like a criminal. I paid my tax and have always been a law abiding person everywhere I go. I am always kind and respectful to people. Is it cos I am an easy target? He asked me how much money I had in my bank account. More importantly, he claimed I should just "get a maid" to tend to my mom and return back here if I want to keep my green card. It was such an irony coming from a representative fr the government given America's history of slavery and domestic servitude. It was highly insensitive. This officer was aggressive, mean & making false accusations from the beginning till the end. That to me was just abusive. I tried to stay strong, got into a Lyft, checked into the hotel and started crying. PS. Please do not treat people with such condescending and aggressive manner. I read wat he so kindly gave me, no it did not mentioned anywhere that I had to live in America for 180days. Instead it noted to maintain status not to stay outside for over 180 days. Also, someone holding a Singapore passport does not mean they have a gold mine somewhere.

They are also the emotional backbone of the shelter and are trusted by clients, informed on their histories, and constantly engaged on the floor. Residents consistently describe Program Aides as the only staff who are present, empathetic, and reliable. And yet, these workers are paid near minimum wage. TO SAVE LIVES!!! No hazard pay. No trauma support. No career protection. No structural power. Meanwhile, Case Managers and administrative staff -- many of whom have limited TO ZERO contact with clients and have been repeatedly cited in client complaints -- earn far more for doing far less and caring even less. Numerous residents (and their family members and loved ones) report being dismissed, belittled, or outright ignored by Case Managers and upper-level staff, while turning to Program Aides for meaningful support. This isn't an open secret. Everyone knows. Internal staff have raised concerns. Clients have shared these experiences. Community observers and even first responders from the South San Francisco Police and Fire Departments have seen firsthand how Program Aides act before 911 is even called. And still, leadership does nothing. NOT A THING! Safe Harbor's executive and administrative leadership has been repeatedly made aware of the dangerous, unsustainable nature of this disparaged, and have chosen to ignore it. Concerns are routinely minimized, feedback is deflected, and the people closest to the crisis, the Program Aides, remain underpaid, unprotected, and unheard. This is not simply poor management. It is a systemic betrayal of both workers and clients. The consequences are already showing: high turnover, deteriorating morale, and safety risks all while the executives sit comfortably above the chaos, insulated from the trauma, the danger, and the human cost. If you support Safe Harbor through donations, volunteer hours, or advocacy, you have a right and a responsibility to know how the system works. Visit the facility. Talk to the Aides. Talk to the clients. See for yourself who's holding this place together and who is looking away while they burn out. It's your time and money you are giving to help and YOU DESERVE TO KNOW. This is not just a wage issue. It is a crisis of leadership, ethics, and basic human decency. Program Aides are saving lives. Every day. Safe Harbor is actively exploiting them to keep the machine running. Until these frontline workers are properly paid, supported, and empowered, Safe Harbor's reputation as a place of healing is nothing more than a polished illusion bought at the expense of the people doing the hardest, most vital work. Before if you had a bottom bunk you weren't allowed to hang material for privacy but you can now. The staff used to act superior and treat us terrible and now they are very nice. This place has definitely improved for the better.
