You expect high prices when dining in RSF. Those weren't a surprise. You also expect quality food in exchange for those prices. I started with the lobster bisque, and it was awful. It was one of the worst I've ever had. It had no lobster in it and was super bland. I had to add salt and pepper to give it some flavor. When I added this to my bisque, my buddy asked for the salt and pepper to do the same. I wasn't alone in my opinion. I then followed it up with the filet. It was also bland and needed salt and pepper. With a medium-rare preparation, I expected a moist, tender steak. It was dry and relatively rough for a filet. The only reason I'm not giving one star is that the service was solid. Zero complaints there. I much prefer Nick & G's or Lillian's when dining in RSF. read more

I was lucky enough to be invited to a dinner party at this iconic French restaurant. I've never been here, so I was excited to try this place for the first time. From the time I stepped through the doors, I was greeted with a delicious Rose while we waiting for the rest of the party. Once everyone arrived, we were seated at our table, which definitely felt intimate and allowed for table conversations. First of all, the service here, headed by Marco, was flawless. I dropped my napkin and a new, folded one appeared in front of me. I had my purse behind me and they brought out a small stool situated next to me for my purse to sit on. The wine and water was constantly filled, without having to raise a finger. We had the pre fixe Local Farms Harvest Winter 5 course dinner. Amuse - Silky and flavorful, this was a great palate opener. Farm Harvest Salad - I actually loved the Humboldt log! Black Perigold Truffle Risotto - Risotto was rich and creamy and it was amazing with the truffle! Ramona Duck Confit Duckling - To be honest, not a big fan of duck but this was pretty good! It was tender and crispy on the outside. Chino's Farm Strawberry Panna Cotta - Beautifully plated and silky. I loved the butterflies throughout! So elegant and tasteful. I'm going to be honest with this review which may look different than the reviews that I've read on Yelp. We chose Mille Fleurs to celebrate a friend's 90th birthday because he loves the piano bar and live singer, and for that purpose, it absolutely delivered. This alone made the night worth it. The setting is refined and elegant, with warm (dim) lighting, crisp white linens to create an unmistakably upscale, "special occasion" atmosphere. Romantic. Classic charm. (Think: Fancy pants style) I imagine that people have made some beautiful memories there. That said, Mille Fleurs leans hard into the fancy, fine-dining vibe. While I can appreciate that some people might be looking for that high-end experience, I wouldn't come here with small kids or a group of girlfriends planning to laugh over cocktails. The space feels too cramped for that, and It seems that everyone can hear each other's conversations. I did notice that "regulars" were greeted warmly by the host/management while others were barely acknowledged (if at all), which you can probably interpret a few different ways. The drinks were beauuuuutifully presented but shockingly overpriced, and service, while polite, wasn't particularly quick or friendly. One big problem : The bathrooms were dim, unkept, and felt out of place in such an elegant space. I feel like if you're going to shoot for an ambience of elegance, you've gotta make sure that the paper towels are always filled, and the bathroom stalls lock. Parking in the neighborhood was another inconvenience. This is an old-school restaurant tucked in the heart of RSF that has been there for years. Our party of 8 was greeted by many attentive waiters and staff, along with kisses and hugs welcoming us from the owner. We had a back room to ourselves and had incredible service. The decor is older, but it fit the vibe and we loved it. We had a bit of everything to eat and it was all delicious. We started with caviar, escargot, fresh bread and beet salads and entrees included miso black cod, steaks and French onion soup. We had excellent wine and champagne service and anyone that needed a cocktail was catered to perfectly. Timing seemed a bit off with items taking a while in the kitchen, but that was fine because our group was a blast. I went here last night for dinner with the friend. The food was good, not five star, but good. The service was five star for sure. But then I had to go to the bathroom... And this is why I give it a three-star. You can't go out to eat and spend $100 a person and then use the restroom in an unmaintained facility. I could not close the bathroom stall door easily, it was broken. There was a missing tile at the washing sink, and the mirror was held up once by double-sided tape which didn't hold up and then they used 3M tape. How can you do that??? Went to dinner here last night- fantastic food and service. I ate the sea bass and my partner the 1855 filet. While this seems odd, these were some of the best potatoes I have ever had! The staff were so welcoming and the cute old feel of the restaurant was really nice. Felt like a fabulous dinner in someone's amazing Racho Home. The food was really good, and our server was truly wonderful kind, professional, and attentive. However, we left feeling disappointed by a practice we found misleading: a 5% surcharge is automatically added to the bill before tax and tip, with no clear notice in advance. Our server did his best to explain that this charge was due to potential fluctuations in product pricing, but when we later ordered drinks at the bar, the same surcharge was applied there as well which clearly has nothing to do with fresh ingredients. All in all, Mille Fleurs is a good restaurant, but this pricing policy leaves a bitter aftertaste. Be prepared to pay up to 50% more than the menu prices once the surcharge, tax, and tip are all included. We spent over $300 for one appetizer, two mains, a dessert, and some wine. read more

Unfortunately, I think our money would have better spent at a nice steakhouse. Again, I can't stress the quality of the service enough. Relaxed but attentive, personal, and warm. The atmosphere was picturesque and romantic-- complete w a beautiful tile fresco fountain and gorgeous tree, coupled w lights made for a beautiful setting. But the food... the escargot was a bit overcooked in my opinion (rubbery texture), the crudo was absolutely overwhelmed by the avocado (which, although perfectly ripe, wasn't seasoned at all) in taste and quantity, my steak was ... fine, and the creme brûlée trio did not feel fresh. It was room temp at best and the individual teeny tiny portions made it really hard to get everything out. The bread was just meh. It took me a while to post my review; my boyfriend took me here for our 6 month anniversary at end of April. He had been here once before for Restaurant Week last year. We sat outside, and no one else was out there because they were under the impression was too cold, They turned on two heaters for us, and it set a perfect intimate and cozy ambiance. I really enjoyed the environment, it was quite perfect to celebrate our anniversary. We ordered a variety of dishes, starting off with the deviled eggs and steak tartare, followed by the escargot. This is my first time trying escargot, and I was pleasantly surprised how much I loved it! I guess traditionally escargot is presented with a side of butter to dip in, but in this case, it was already prepared in a nice buttery spice mix. We also ordered the French onion soup, a side of Brussel sprouts, and a side of truffle fries. I ordered the lamb as my main dish, and my partner ordered the wienerschel. I loved my lamb! I got it cooked medium, I'm glad I did because it was already fairly pink on the inside. The sauce accompanied by the lamb was tasteful! The hint of spice was unique to anything I have tasted thus far. To top off the beautiful ambiance, the tasteful dishes, the service was on par! Our server was amazing, knowledgeable, and telling us flavors to expect each dish and checked on us for every water refill and anything in addition we would need. It was a really amazing experience. I never had to wait for someone to wander by if I needed anything, and we were always asked if we enjoyed our food. All the food was perfectly portioned - we left feeling full but not stuffed AND had room for dessert ! The best course, in my opinion, was the miso cod. The fish melts in your mouth, and the sauce is smooth, light, and creamy Desserts came out beautiful and they even gave us a couple truffles (not pictured) on our way out. In addition, they help us into our chairs, placed our napkins on our laps, and took our coats once we arrived! We celebrated my husband's "39th" birthday on a Sunday evening at Mille Fleurs, and we requested a table in the outdoor area. The gas heaters kept us warm despite the chilly night air, and the courtyard was beautifully lit with multiple strings of light. We started off our meal with the house-made baguettes (served with a delicious herb and shallot butter) and the tasty squash and cheese raviolis. For the main course, we ordered the almond-crusted sea bass and the pan-seared scallops along with a side of truffled fries. Everything we ordered was cooked to perfection and the service was outstanding. A distinctive feature I look for is the sauce work, and the lemon beurre was velvety and the perfect acidic accompaniment. I could have done without the additional romanesco. Steaks were cooked to a perfect medium with a layer of jus reduction. The foie gras was "free" range so it ate different texturally. Everyone happily finished their dishes. We were so excited and looking forward to brunch here today, we drove all the way down from Irvine, 67 miles. I almost gave them the $50 deposit required on Open Table for a nonrefundable reservation, but thought I'd try for a "walk in" because I didn't have a Google Pay account and driving so far anything could have happened on the way. We drove straight to the restaurant excited to try their traditional "Wienerschnitzel" my all time favorite dish. Except it wasn't on their brunch menu as seen online on their website. We were left standing to wait at the hostess stand with no one even acknowledging us. There was someone bring equipment to a car from an event there the night before and had passed us a few times, he commented that he couldn't believe no one approached us yet? It was the height of rudeness, when 2-3 of the servers saw us, one even just setting a table, and he did nothing. We were well dressed, attractive and had masks on, so it was shocking! I was so glad I never gave them their nonrefundable $50 deposit for this behavior! We were so disappointed, and there were many empty tables available, they weren't full at 12:15 PM whatsoever. We left and walked down the street in search of another restaurant, since we were hungry and found Nick & G's. We had such a wonderful lunch, the restaurant was beautiful and the service exceptional, we will return there! read more

What a lovely place! We had early reservations so we sat at the bar before we were seated on the patio. We had a glass of 2019 Auctioneer cab and it was delicious. We were seated in the front corner of the patio and I absolutely loved the string lights and beautiful greenery around me. It was a little humid, but there was shade all around. The service was top notch. At one point, we waited a long time for three oysters and I believe there was some miscommunication, but apologies were had and the food outweighed any minor flaws. I absolutely loved the gentleman who helped us out as he listened and gave some wine recommendations as well as dish recommendations. We split the smoked salmon, oysters, and then each ordered a main dish with mine being the seabass and the other person ordered the duck confit. Both were so beautifully presented and I will say I loved the duck enough that I wondered if I should have ordered it instead of my dish. Not to say that mine wasn't exceptionally delicious because it absolutely was. One of my favorite parts of the seabass dish was the sauce. We didn't get dessert, but we were treated to beautiful piano music. The patio had heaters all around and one thing I also wish it had was maybe some kind of light fans because of the humidity and bugs. I wouldn't say bugs were a huge issue, but a few times it was bothersome to me personally. One of the things I was surprised about was the bathroom. I go back a long way in Rancho Santa Fe (that rhymes!) The charming building and courtyard in which Mille Fleurs is located was known in the 1960's as "The Country Squire Tea Room", and I used to come here for lunch with my mother to nibble on delicate chicken sandwiches on a screened-in porch among the RSF Ladies-Who-Lunch, a porch that now comprises the interior dining room of Mille Fleurs. Last Sunday, I was walking down Paseo Delicias collecting glossy real estate magazines from the multiple real estate agents on the street. I like to dream about those magnificent houses. As I passed Mille Fleurs, a hostess was posted out front at a little podium. She was talking with a waiter. As I walked by, they both graciously greeted me and we had a little chat. As I continued on my way, I thought about how pretty the patio looked on this sunny afternoon, with its fountain, gnarled Chinese Elm Tree and sunflower-yellow umbrellas. Even though I had a big Italian dinner to attend that very evening at 5:30 p.m. at Piacere Mio South Park, I decided to drop the magazines off in my car and return to Mille Fleurs for brunch. I again approached the gracious hostess, whose name turned out to be "Natalia", and told her that I would like to have lunch. She immediately led me to a table beside the gurgling tiled fountain and happily arranged an umbrella to shade my table in just the right manner. The same waiter with whom I had spoken out front--I believe his name was Eddie--took care of me , and he was kind and efficient. I am not a "breakfasty" brunch person, so I zeroed in on "Lunchy" type items on the Mille Fleurs Sunday menu. I selected the parmesan and almond encrusted Sea Bass, served over grilled springtime asparagus, which was excellent. The wine list at Mille Fleurs is comprehensive, as to be expected. However, I experienced a moment of confusion, since the half-bottle list is placed first in the book, and the small designation of "Half Bottles" at the top of the page eluded my eyes. I thought--wow, these wine prices are fantastic! Once past that little glitch, I settled on a full bottle of a good white Burgundy, a Meursault. Halfway through the meal, Bertrand Hug, the owner of Mille Fleurs, made the rounds of the patio, greeting his many regular clients. As he passed my table, we had a short conversation about the old days before Mille Fleurs, when he ran La Maison du Lac, on Tamarack Road, in nearby Carlsbad. My orange peel old fashioned was great and Jessica was eager to suggest wine pairings. I began with the butternut squash soup and some house made baguette. They were both lovely. Wow!! This was an above and beyond experience. Everything about our dinner was perfect, delicious food, stunning service, beautiful ambiance. A true fine dining experience. One thing that really stood out to me was since I was sharing everything with my sister they split the meals for us in the kitchen, so much easier and nicer than doing it ourselves. The staff were on top of it, waters refilled, plates cleared, questions answered, etc. Clearly are well trained and have great management, everything felt very coordinated. The mushroom soup was packed with flavor but still very light, great appetizer. The garlic herb butter served with the bread was unlike any I've gotten before, and the bread came out fresh and warm. I saw other reviewers complain about the charge for bread but I personally felt it was justified because it was so good and especially because we were served the bread/butter twice for paying once. The fettuccine was cooked well, the sauce was rich and the tableside shaved black truffle was perfect to tie it all together. For the venison, our server suggested medium rare and I loved it, the meat was tender and juicy, paired with a smooth and flavorful lingonberry sauce, the rainbow carrots tasted very fresh and were cooked well and the gnocchi was pillowy.
