In the heart of Rancho Santa Fe this is a great for a celebratory dinner. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. They were happy to answer all of our questions. We had the Brussels sprouts and baked Brie for appetizers. Both were delicious and I would order them again. For an entree we had the Chicken Parmesan specialty which was good but very rich. Splitting that was plenty of food. The Sea Bass special was enjoyed by others at the table but the skin was not crispy. I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was too disappointing not to share. During our dinner, a server accidentally dropped a full glass water bottle onto our young daughter. The bottle shattered, and she immediately started crying loudly. The server's first reaction was, "I don't know what happened." Later, she explained that the tray was uneven, which caused the bottle to fall. We understand that accidents happen, and we were not upset about the accident itself. What truly disappointed us was the restaurant's response. Other than a brief apology from the server, no manager or staff member came over to check on our daughter, ask if she was injured, or offer any assistance. Seeing a young child crying after being hit by a shattered glass bottle should have prompted someone to show at least a little concern. It has now been two days, and she still has a visible bruise from the incident. We weren't looking for free food or compensation. We simply expected empathy, professionalism, and genuine care after an accident involving a child. Unfortunately, we left feeling that our family's well-being was not treated as a priority. I hope the restaurant will improve how it responds when situations like this happen in the future. read more

We had a wonderful dinner last night for Valentine's Day! Despite how busy the evening can be, everything was handled seamlessly. We adored Melissa, our server, she was attentive and made the experience and meal enjoyable. The Maitre d' also ensured that service flowed smoothly and that we were well taken care of from start to finish. We both chose the tasting menu, and I added the wine pairing. Each course was beautifully prepared, and the wine selections were outstanding--thoughtfully curated and perfectly complementary. The osetra caviar with potato, lobster bisque, pasta course, and filet were all cooked to perfection and truly memorable. Even the salad was delicious! I'm not typically a dessert person, but I thoroughly enjoyed the crème brûlée--it was absolutely delicious. Overall, it was an excellent dining experience with exceptional food, wine, and service. I've never heard of this restaurant so I was excited to try it in this part of town. The restaurant has some touches of Easter throughout, which was tasteful and not gaudy. What I had - Caymus 50th Anniversary 2022 Cab - Amazing rich bodied cab. Truffle Popcorn - Only available at the bar. Nice and crunchy but I couldn't really taste the truffle. Baked Brie came with crusty bread and it was good because it was gooey and spreadable. Parmesan Brussel Sprouts - Perfectly crisp with bacon and balsamic. Calamari - Liked that the calamari came in dippable strips. Sauce was okay for me. Mussels & Clams - This actually had a good amount of meat within the shells. I always wish that more bread is provided to help sop up the broth. Catch of the Day was Halibut on top of Butternut Squash I was getting pretty full by this dish and it was just okay for me and I was expecting more. For desserts, we had bread pudding, affogato, & crème brûlée. So much food I only got to taste a bit. For the price point and the area, I was expecting more, like a food item that would blow it out of the water. However, the food was good but not great. What a disaster!! My wife and I thought we'd treat ourselves to a nice dinner at Nick & G's this past Saturday. Our table was reserved for 7.30pm, we were seated at 7.45pm. Then another 15 minutes to get served, and by the time we received our first course it had been 1 hour 15 minutes (we didn't even get the bread we asked for) My wife ordered a filet steak, medium temperature, what she received was a tough piece of beef that was terrible. Our Crème Brûlées were tasteless as well. We finally left 2 hours after we arrived, this restaurant needs serious help in every department. I could go on and on but I'm sure you'll get the gist. My family has lived in Rancho Santa Fe for over a decade so we have seen all the tenants of this space. Prior to Nick & G's it was Delicias, which was a bit more homely, but Nick & G's does specialize in steak so it really is a nice change. This part of town is very sleepy and easy to find parking and it's never too crowded or too noisy. It is casual dining, but I think business casual would be most appropriate. Our server was very polite and we were able to be seated right when we arrived for a 6 PM dinner. I have been to Nick & G's a few times so I mix it up each time I visit but this most recent stop in I chose to start with the French Onion Soup, which was quite small but very good. For my entrée I chose the Filet Mignon which I did enjoy although I wish it would not have had as much demiglaze and spinach on top. I felt that it took away from the steak flavor. I really wanted to try the White Chocolate Bread Pudding for dessert but I was too full at the end of the meal so I plan to try it in the near future. Overall, I really love this part of town and it's very close to where my family lives so it's extremely convenient for us, but I would recommend to anyone looking for a great date spot or place to have dinner with friends or family. read more

I don't usually write reviews, but this place earned it. We showed up on time for our reservation, only to be told they couldn't seat us for another 20 minutes. Once we were finally seated, things somehow got worse, as it took an entire hour for our food to arrive. Not exaggerating, sixty minutes of watching other tables get served while we sat there wondering if our meals were being grown from scratch in the back. And when the food did show up? Absolutely not worth the wait. It was the kind of disappointing that makes you question every decision that led you to that moment. So if you're thinking about making a reservation, save yourself the frustration. There are too many good restaurants out there to waste time on one that can't manage the basics. read more

Nick & G's ruined our Valentine's Day dinner. We arrived on time for our 8:15 reservation, and they told us we would have to wait for 8 parties ahead of us. We waited for 30 minutes, staring at open tables everywhere, only to be funneled into a cold, dark, screen-lit sports bar area. We decided to just leave after 10 minutes of no menus. I will admit, the staff seemed like nice people, sure, but there is clearly something wrong with the way this restaurant is run. First off, I live down the street from this place, and frequent both the bar and the restaurant often with my family. The food is good and the waitstaff is great. We ate here last night and we were given the new updated menu, and were rather disappointed. Mainly because the updates consisted of a few menu changes/additions, but mostly just price increases for everything. Oh, and now if you want bread with your meal, it now costs $8; it was complimentary before. When we commented on the changes to our server, they informed us that management intends to turn this restaurant into an upscale fine-dining establishment. That's a mistake. RSF already has several of those. The appeal of this restaurant is that it was somewhat casual for everyone in the community. This restaurant def needs updating, but it would be most successful as an upscale sports bar/restaurant catering to the locals and guests of the Inn. That is sorely lacking in RSF. Last thing we need is another snooty restaurant. If Nick & G's turns into that, we won't come anymore. read more

I used to love this restaurant, but it is under new ownership. I found the portions to be tiny, the food to be more expensive and I had unbelievably poor service. even though I made a reservation the restaurant said they still may be too busy to seat my party. When the food came, the servers were rude, and there were missing components to our dishes. When we pointed this out, the server silently took the food away and came back with the elements added. No other explanation. I highly recommend you try another restaurant in the area. read more

We all split salads for our starter. We appreciated their dividing the salads to separate plates. I ordered the chicken parmesan and my wife ordered the vegetable lasagna. The main courses took a while which is understandable with a full restaurant. Both our dishes must have sat a while in the kitchen before serving because they were only slightly warm. In my case the chicken was way overcooked and very tough. Overall, quite disappointed, especially for my dinner. read more

This place is a chef's kiss!! I've been here twice now and have loved everything about it- great service, low wait times, and delicious food. The bread they bring out in the beginning is always warm and tastes homemade. Probably the best bread I've had at a restaurant (or atleast a top 5 for me). It comes with unsalted butter with salt crystals sprinkled on top. The drinks are a little pricey, but super good (and strong). I was feeling buzzed after two! As for the food, I've had the catch of the day and fettuccine Alfredo, both great options! Their afogatto and crime brûlée are my favorite dessert choices, and definitely worth it. I called and asked what this side dish was and why I had gotten it, and manager lindsy told me I was mistaken and that brown mess was indeed a marbled potato cake because "that's what the chef said and he's been here for 2 years". Fantastic experience at Nick & G's. It was our first time there. We arrived early evening. Not crowded yet, so we got a nice table for 2 in the back. We had a nice conversation without having to raise our voices and we didn't hear any conversations next to us. Loved the decor. Drinks were good and we had the calamari as appetizers and they were wonderful, no fishy taste. Our main entree was the scallops with mushrooms and the porter house, medium. Amazing, food was fantastic. Service by Diana was tremendous. And to top it off, we had the Creme Brulee, our favorite desert. Overall, fantastic and definitely will be back. It's never too crowded, which is great because we can always find a table. It's usually an older crowd given the location but it has a cozy atmosphere, with a fireplace and mantel. The wait staff is attentive and kind, always accommodating my mom's allergies. The food, although pricey, is just mediocre; nothing exceptional. The salmon was tasty but nothing super special. Stopped in for an early dinner. The hostess was very sweet and showed us to our table. Diana was our server and she was great as well. The busboy and food runners were fantastic... we were so impressed with the warmth and kindness that we felt from all the staff. The food itself exceeded our expectations. We were seated in the patio... it was a beautiful warm afternoon with a cool breeze... so it was heaven out there! So... if all the above was perfection... why the 2-stars? There are 2 pictures that I shared of the manager visiting (LOUDLY) with the guests in the next table. The manger literally came back and visited (LOUDLY) through our entire meal. A complete and absolute and inappropriate disruption. My husband and I kept looking over in a very obvious manner hoping that the guests and manager would notice us looking and "get the hint"... but no. This went on the ENTIRE meal. By the time I started snapping pictures we were almost done with our meal. If you're a manger, shouldn't you be going to EACH table and making sure everything is satisfactory? Or, if you're visiting (LOUDLY) shouldn't you only do it for a moment? I looked at Nick & G's reviews here on YELP... I was not surprised to see that this behavior has been mentioned before.
