Del Mar location is pure honey.. Once I found them it was a surprise around the corner... love love the sun shining into the door. The place was a little empty and it was simply a tranquil place. The host asked if I want inside or outside. I chose outside and picked a table for just me.. Iam aware of seating location for staff as I've been a server too and was aware I was being offered seating that was particular to a certain area. So my spot was near someone else. And this was apparently the same for the group of 3 teenagers and a parent right next to me some time after I had had a glass of wine plus two appetizers. We were seated pretty close and got the pleasure of feeling parenthood vs no kids. Silently rolling my eyes and wishing I was seated elsewhere, thankful they left. My appetite was met with the burrata and cauliflower appetizers. I started with a white wine and was told it was a Sauvignon Blanc from Santa Maria. After tasting the wine.. I knew it was not from Santa Maria... it was Santa Rosa... totally different wine growing appellation and flavor profile. I understand that mistakes can happen. The outside patio was completely full and the bar had a number of people watching the World Cup. We were seated at a table inside and ordered the following: - Crispy cauliflower: this was the absolute winner for me. It was perfectly roasted. The romesco sauce and capers added a nice salty and umami profile. - Bruschetta board: we got the Brie/apple/fig, boquerones, warm artichoke spread, and prosciutto/fig/marscapone. I liked them all, but the artichoke spread was the standout. - Chef's charcuterie: standard, but nothing mind blowing. Service was excellent: as soon as we were seated by a giant open window, I felt a bit chilly. Even before I said anything, they asked us if we wanted it closed; very considerate. There's a reason why i keep coming here. The customer service is amazing. I came for Mother's Day lunch. We didn't have a reservation but the hostess offered a booth to us right away. It's a bit crowded for 5 ppl but i wasn't going to wait for 45 min. Our waitress came and noticed that it's too small for us. She spoke to the manager and made arrangements to move reservations around so they could move us to a bigger table. The waitress was very friendly and attentive. Two Visits - Happy Hour & Late Night 1st Visit - After reading the reviews for the Postino Del Mar restaurant, I suggested trying it for happy hour to a business associate whom I was meeting for the first time. When I made the reservation, I asked if it was possible to find a place that wouldn't be too close to the bar, as I didn't want the typical happy hour noise that might make it hard to hear one another. And they delivered! My business associate got there before I did and asked how I reserved such a prime spot! She was seated right next to the outdoor fireplace! We decided to take advantage of the $7 glasses of wine they offer until 5pm for happy hour and asked our server, for a suggestion on something to nibble on. She immediately went to the bruschetta board and said we could pick four different types to make up our board. Not only were they a delicious delight, but the fact that arrived pre-cut made dividing them up much easier! Our server treated us to a dessert - hot donut dots, which came with tasty dipping sauces. What a sweet treat, literally and figuratively! 2nd Visit - The next time I returned it was to join some family members who were there dining but because I had already eaten, I just joined them for a drink. So this time I got to sit on the inside, which was just as enjoyable. We had a server who was training another server and they both did an outstanding job. This is definitely more of a wine and apps place than a dining place so if you're looking for that you will enjoy Postino! Their happy hour is great for wine lovers in the sense that you can choose from any of their wines which is a nice change from most happy hours that only provide one red and one white option. They have a decently sized patio which is great for enjoying a beautiful afternoon with your wine and bites. I have had a few delicious apps here... specifically, the roasted mushroom fondue, the crispy cauliflower with an amazing romesco sauce and the grilled skewers but I have to say I am a bit confused by a couple of their decisions. 1) The mushroom fondue is delicious but they don't include enough crostini to finish the fondue and they charge for extra. A bit frustrating as everyone will need about three times the crostinis actually provided with this dish. 2) The hummus is either not salted at all or extremely under salted and bland. I've had this on a couple of different platters so I'm positive at this point this is just how they make it. 3) The grilled cheese and tomato soup used to be a normal size but the last time I ordered this the sandwich was so tiny, I'm not sure that you could actually call it a sandwich. This was my second time going to Postino! The last time I went was for a Yelp event at their Little Italy location, so I was super excited to check out the Del Mar spot. We got seated right away, and I instantly fell in love with their outdoor patio, it was sunny and beautiful for a Saturday evening. The staff were really friendly and welcoming, and we were given water and menus right away. Their happy hour deal is seriously amazing! They had $7 pitchers, and of course my boyfriend couldn't resist ordering one. It filled about two full glasses of beer, such a steal! We decided to share the bruschetta board, which comes with four pieces for $20. They had a great selection of flavors, and we ended up getting two of the smoked salmon & pesto, one tomato bacon, and one tomato mozzarella (a total classic!). Everything came out within 5-10 minutes, and the bruschetta was so good, the bread was perfectly crispy on the outside but soft on the inside. Restaurants are way too loud in general, but some things are outside their control. Playing music too loud for people at the same table to have a conversation is not one of them!! Also, the Postino website does not allow you to complete their online survey--at least not if you are giving them a poor rating. Went at 130 on a Saturday afternoon with my pup. They were so accommodating to me and my boy. I had planned to order the bruschetta but diverted and ordered the soup of the day, small Caesar, and the shrimp appetizer with an Arnold Palmer. The soup was listed as bean and sausage, which sounded amazing. But it was more tomato and sausage as I only had 1 bean in the soup. Despite that it was really good. I would order it again. I would serve it on a plate since the Romain pieces were large and needed to be cut. The shrimp appetizer came with 5 large shrimp and artichoke. It has this lemony dressing with Calabrian chilis. So, so good. The shrimp were plump just the right amount of seasoning. I ordered the hazelnut crunch dessert to go. The hazelnut spread came open in transit. But I still ate every bite.
