    Chef's Charcuterie
    Angie K.

Went mid afternoon for some bites and (metaphorical) tea with the gfs. It was relatively busy for 3-4pm on a Saturday. The outside patio was completely full and the bar had a number of people watching the World Cup. We were seated at a table inside and ordered the following: - Crispy cauliflower: this was the absolute winner for me. It was perfectly roasted. The romesco sauce and capers added a nice salty and umami profile. - Bruschetta board: we got the Brie/apple/fig, boquerones, warm artichoke spread, and prosciutto/fig/marscapone. I liked them all, but the artichoke spread was the standout. - Chef's charcuterie: standard, but nothing mind blowing. Service was excellent: as soon as we were seated by a giant open window, I felt a bit chilly. Even before I said anything, they asked us if we wanted it closed; very considerate. Food came out quickly, and the servers refilled our drinks often. It's a nice place for a little snack break. I still prefer Nick's across the way for an actual meal.

Salmon and pesto. Would prefer a crème fresh instead of pesto.

This place is so good!! The staff is fabulous, especially Maya who was our server. Fun and knowledgeable. She made the experience great! We had the mushroom fondue appetizer which was super yummy. Next time I'll ask for softer bread instead of crostini We got the skewers with beef. Loved the yogurt spread under it. Next time we will get chicken. Then we got the bruschetta board. Burrata bacon and arugula, salami pesto, prosciutto fig and mascarpone, Brie apple fig. We got that one hot and it was really good! The drinks were well made. The Aperol spritz was excellent as was the non alcoholic ginger drift. Excited to come back again!

Bruschetta Board, Half Panini + Half Salad (Caesar Salad, Prosciutto Brie Panini)

I've been wanting to try this place for a while now after I kept seeing the aesthetic bruschetta boards, so I'm really glad I finally got the chance to come! I obviously had to get the bruschetta board which comes with 4 different options. They had a philly cheesesteak chef special that day and it was definitely my favorite. The burrata bacon arugula tomato one was also really tasty, but I thought the mozzarella tomato basil and the smoked salmon and pesto ones fell a little short for me. I also got the half panini and half salad combo which I was very excited to see on the menu because I wanted to try so many different things! I got the caesar salad and the prosciutto & brie sando. It was good! I liked how the fig jam added sweetness to the prosciutto sandwich, but I wish they used less because it was a little too sweet. Great vibes inside too, and servers were nice!

Such a cozy and relaxing spot in Del Mar. I really like the atmosphere here -- warm, intimate, and perfect for a quiet evening when you just want to sit at the bar, have a drink, and unwind. The food is good, the cocktails are well made, and the service is friendly. It has that neighborhood feel that makes it very easy to enjoy without being too formal.

There's a reason why i keep coming here. The customer service is amazing. I came for Mother's Day lunch. We didn't have a reservation but the hostess offered a booth to us right away. It's a bit crowded for 5 ppl but i wasn't going to wait for 45 min. Our waitress came and noticed that it's too small for us. She spoke to the manager and made arrangements to move reservations around so they could move us to a bigger table. The waitress was very friendly and attentive. When we were done, there's an issue with our gift card. The manager took care of us and resolved the issue efficiently and professionally. It made a huge difference in our dining experience. Thank you.

WOW! I'm not one to search out bruschetta, but when our friend recommended this place we were like why not? We were told to get the build your own bruschetta board and there were so many options. We ended up ordering almost all of them on two boards and my favorites were the... - Prosciutto, fig, and mascarpone - Brie, apple, and fig - Chef's choice (street corn) Ultimately everything was amazing. Special shoutout to the crispy cauliflower as well, cooked so well & whatever sauce they used - AMAZING!

My palate is not refined enough to differentiate between the different terroirs, different countries etc but I always enjoy the wines here. I like that they're not snobbish about it and would be able to help me pick up a wine when I'm not sure and answer my questions non-judgmentally. I love the openness of this place. You can sit by the bar or sit in one of the booths and be able to people watch as you sip your wine. And you can also get apps if you like some food!

    Great happy hour!

Postino Del Mar, located in One Paseo right off el Camino Real, is my new favorite spot. The food is always delicious, and the staff goes above and beyond! Rachel, our server, took really good care of us. She gave great wine and food recommendations. We were lucky enough to have come during happy hour! $7 glasses of wine and $7 pitchers of craft beer. Cheers! I ordered the pub board. It came with soft pretzel bites, Italian sausage, Spanish pork links, fondue, packo pickles, and cornichons! DELICIOUS! My friends ordered the salmon board and the west coaster. Also very delicious. Thanks, Rachel and Postino crew, for always taking good care of us.

We came here after doing a weekend morning class at Pigment and the food & drinks hit the spot! We walked right in, no wait- around noon in a Saturday. The patio was perfect shielded by the wall so we had perfect shade. We had to get the donut balls but remember they do take 10 minutes so give your server a heads up when you want them. I tried to be healthy first off since knowing I would devour the donut balls, so I had one of the salads. My friend got the meatballs and loved them! She got a watermelon cocktail and loved it too. This place is dog friendly too and only on the patio.

We love Postino so much that we make sure to stop by every time we are in Del Mar! If you're looking for the BEST wine and beer happy hour in town, look no further. The food is delicious and they have so many gluten free options which is always appreciated. Make sure to get a bruschetta board, it's what they are known for and it never disappoints (including gf option). The staff is always friendly and attentive everytime we go but Suzie is our absolute favorite! Wherever you decided to sit, you'll enjoy your stay. They have a stylish and trendy indoor seating section and a beautiful patio with umbrellas for shade if you want to enjoy the perfect Southern California weather.

Two Visits - Happy Hour & Late Night 1st Visit - After reading the reviews for the Postino Del Mar restaurant, I suggested trying it for happy hour to a business associate whom I was meeting for the first time. When I made the reservation, I asked if it was possible to find a place that wouldn't be too close to the bar, as I didn't want the typical happy hour noise that might make it hard to hear one another. And they delivered! My business associate got there before I did and asked how I reserved such a prime spot! She was seated right next to the outdoor fireplace! We decided to take advantage of the $7 glasses of wine they offer until 5pm for happy hour and asked our server, for a suggestion on something to nibble on. She immediately went to the bruschetta board and said we could pick four different types to make up our board. Not only were they a delicious delight, but the fact that arrived pre-cut made dividing them up much easier! Our server treated us to a dessert - hot donut dots, which came with tasty dipping sauces. What a sweet treat, literally and figuratively! 2nd Visit - The next time I returned it was to join some family members who were there dining but because I had already eaten, I just joined them for a drink. So this time I got to sit on the inside, which was just as enjoyable. We had a server who was training another server and they both did an outstanding job. It was a first visit for my family members and they were really impressed with what they had eaten and the service. So whether dining inside or outside, the atmosphere is wonderful, the food offerings are delicious and the service is top-notch! I can see this easily becoming a local go-to place when trying to decide where to go with friends.

Panini upgrade to green salad, bruschetta board and Negroni...just the right light meal for two to share!

Stopped in for a pre- show bite and drink before a show at The Sound in Del Mar. Sat on the patio which was lovely. Both the service and food were excellent!

I do enjoy this place for a glass of wine or two and maybe a bite on the side. This is definitely more of a wine and apps place than a dining place so if you're looking for that you will enjoy Postino! Their happy hour is great for wine lovers in the sense that you can choose from any of their wines which is a nice change from most happy hours that only provide one red and one white option. They have a decently sized patio which is great for enjoying a beautiful afternoon with your wine and bites. I have had a few delicious apps here... specifically, the roasted mushroom fondue, the crispy cauliflower with an amazing romesco sauce and the grilled skewers but I have to say I am a bit confused by a couple of their decisions. 1) The mushroom fondue is delicious but they don't include enough crostini to finish the fondue and they charge for extra. A bit frustrating as everyone will need about three times the crostinis actually provided with this dish. 2) The hummus is either not salted at all or extremely under salted and bland. I've had this on a couple of different platters so I'm positive at this point this is just how they make it. 3) The grilled cheese and tomato soup used to be a normal size but the last time I ordered this the sandwich was so tiny, I'm not sure that you could actually call it a sandwich. I do love Postino but if they could make some relatively minor changes it would keep this a consistently positive experience.

NORTH ITALIA @ DEL MAR…read more Parking is available in the garage parking lot, and the location is in Del Mar Highlands, surrounded by plenty of shops and restaurants. It's the perfect place to walk around, shop, grab a meal, and spend a few hours. I really love Del Mar, and this shopping center is definitely one of my favorites. I've been to the Fashion Valley location before and really enjoyed it, so I was excited to try this one. I also had no idea that North Italia is co-owned by The Cheesecake Factory, which was pretty interesting! I ordered the Chicken Pesto Pasta, and it was absolutely delicious. The pesto was flavorful, the chicken was incredibly moist, and I loved the pine nuts and capers, they added the perfect texture and flavor. If you're a pesto fan like I am, you really can't go wrong with this dish. The service was excellent, and the ambiance was beautiful. I especially loved the outdoor seating because it was bright, open, and made for such a relaxing dining experience. Overall, this is definitely one of my favorite North Italia locations, and I'd absolutely come back.

The waitress was really nice and helpful. She did a great job getting all of our orders correct and was prompt with responding to our requests. In my opinion the service and ambiance were the best part of the restaurant. The food was honestly just okay for me. There are so many other great Italian restaurants that I would rather go to at a similar price point. Our table shared the white truffle garlic bread which was pretty tasty with a nice creamy sauce and crispy crust. For the entree my husband and I shared the strozzapreti pasta and the pig pizza. The pasta was claimed to be a creamy, truffle and cheese pasta with an herb roasted chicken. It wasn't that creamy, there wasn't really a truffle taste, and the chicken honestly just felt like a shredded rotisserie chicken. The pine nuts were a nice addition and the pasta itself was a nice texture but overall the dish was very underwhelming. The pizza we got was like a meat lovers pizza. It was good but the toppings were sparsely placed mostly on one side and it was a bit too much crust for me. I also tried bites of a chicken parm plate which was decent but nothing out of this world. Unfortunately north Italia missed the mark for me

However it wasn't until 2020 that I fully embraced my passion in wine - while I have wine tasted in a few places around the world, Paso Robles in particular stressed the importance of education in the wine tasting experience. Many of the tasting room staff and sommeliers have at least a wine certification (usually WSET or CMS) and proudly boast it. So I figured if I'm going to spend quite a bit of time and money on wine, I might as well be an educated consumer in the process. Since I don't work in the industry (I'm actually in healthcare) and I don't want to work in the restaurant biz as a sommelier the Court of Master Sommeliers cert route was a no-go. Plus the CMS route emphasizes self-study and I prefer classroom learning. For a hobbyist who may in the future want to dabble in the industry on the side, the Wine & Spirit Education Trust was the way to go. Being based in SD Wine Smarties with Lindsay was the most practical choice. She offers three levels of the WSET plus the diploma - first level being just a 1-day class followed by the test followed by the 2 and 3 being 4 and 8 1x/weekly classes, respectively, with an in-person as well as an online option. She offers her classes in San Diego as well as Temecula. Having dabbled in wine and tasted wine in parts of CA/Mexico/parts of Europe for at least 5 years my knowledge alone was enough to skip L1 plus for the cost of the class (~$300) I would rather spend on wine club allocations. So I decided to start at L2. If you are not sponsored by your employer the cost is around ~$700 for L2 and ~$1300 for L3 and if you are taking the online portion you'll also have to purchase your wines separately. While you could also skip L2 and go straight to L3 in theory many people have advised to at least take L2 to get used to the WSET testing style and to also get used to the "systematic approach to tasting", which is essential if you want to pass the L3 tasting portion of the exam (L2 is only a 50-question multiple choice exam). Plus Lindsay does have a discount for L3 students who have taken her previously for L2. Lindsay was an awesome instructor who has such passion for wine and has a lot of experience gaining that knowledge from all over the world. She does have a propensity to go slightly off topic to talk about her travels but as a fellow traveler myself I actually enjoyed those anecdotes. But in the end I highly recommend to study off the WSET course material - after all it is the WSET that tests you at the end of the day. Even while handling a full time job and other activities I studied on an average a few hours a week. There was a miscommunication at the end regarding my exam date that I had specifically mentioned a month before in an email starting the class. While the original date wasn't honored she did work with me to schedule an alternate date to take the exam. Turns out that I did pretty well - got a 94% on the L2, which qualifies as a "Pass with Distinction". The best part about taking Lindsay's WSET classes? Getting introduced to wines that I have never heard of or tasted before. I thought I knew a little more about wine than the average consumer but this was before I had ever known about a carménère or tasted a meursault. Because of this class I consider those wines some of my most favorite wines along with the usual Paso or Valle suspects. For this specifically I am super grateful. Looking forward to taking the L3 with Lindsay in 2022 and will update this review as such to detail the L3 experience.

Lindsay is incredibly gifted at understanding wine, and sharing that knowledge. I'm so glad she is in San Diego.
