This is an updated review after living for 11 months at MPP. SMOKING IS ALLOWED INSIDE THE UNITS, IT IS VERY BAD if you get an unlucky unit, AND YOU CAN DO NOTHING ABOUT IT, increasing your chance of getting cancer down the road. The management sent an air filter that has the effectiveness of an umbrella made out of tissue paper. You are not allowed to terminate the lease. Sure you can sublease, but who will actually want to take your unit when they smell smoke? The way the floors are made in the building allow smoke and odor to travel freely between a few floors. I smelled the burnt food two floors above me, cigarette, other drugs, and new paint from neighboring units. Many of my friends who live here smell marijuana. If you search in Yelp for the word "rehab" you will find another reviewer mentioned rehab patients. I don't know who my neighbors are, but if the are indeed rehab patients, they are not doing a good job rehabbing because they smoke all kinds of drugs multiple times a week and are very frustrating to deal with. Their drug habits fill up all three of our unit's bedrooms and sometimes into the living room as well. If I report them to the management, during heavy bouts of smoking, they seem to increase their smoking for a few days, even though they know that I have an infant and a two year old, (which is the most heart-breaking thing, knowing that they are intentionally trying to harm them). MPP Management, if you are reading this and sincerely want to help my children, please let me move out a month or two early, and please inform potential residences about smoking being allowed in the lease, because I would NEVER have leased this apartment if I had known about the smoking issue. Since the staff at MPP has been absolutely wonderful, I'll keep my old 5-star review that I posted a month after I moved in as a token of gratitude for the staff who helped me a lot when I lived here: Sam, Steve, Ricky, Michael, DJ, Chris, and Terry. They are very professional and solve problems quickly (except for the smoking, which is not the staffs' fault, but is allowed by the owners). ==== Old 5-Star Review posted 2017/7/7 ==== I selected Millennium Park Plaza in the spring of 2017 after weeks of extensive research of downtown Chicago apartments. The main complaint on Yelp at that time was the internet. The internet got revamped shortly before I arrived and it's been super fast (I game a lot) and reliable (never dropped). Another complaint was the elevator time. I have been here for a month and there has never been an issue. The units remodeling was finished years ago. Honestly it doesn't take much longer to get to my 19th floor than my previous 5-story apartment. The location and price are huge pluses. Just next door, MILA apartments has their 2 bedrooms about a thousand more expensive than MPP's 3 bedrooms. MILA gets the same noise from the streets, the same location, but at a much higher price. The fire engines are frequent, but if you close the windows it's not bad. Everything you'd want is within walking distance. A few examples within 5 blocks: Grocery (Mariano), Target, Ace hardware, CVS, Walgreens, Staples, tons of fast food (Jimmy John's, Shake Shack, Subway, Roti, Protein Bar, Noodles and Co, Garrett Popcorn, Burger King, McDonald's, Panda Express, etc. etc.) and of course Millennium Park/Grant Park itself with a ton of free events in the summer. I have 2 young children without a car. We can get everywhere with a stroller and there is a big playground in the park next to Mariano's. Maggie Daley park is great too, not to mention a ton of museums around. Each room is also large enough to fit a king-sized bed (I have two of them). Even the smallest room in the 3 bedroom can fit a king-sized bed and a desk (with not much room in between though). There is a heater AC in each room which is a big plus because rooms have different temperatures from different insulation. I'd like to thank the entire MPP staff for working with me. They are all wonderful. Erika and Terry went out their ways to get me my apartment. Julie was the first to greet and welcome me. Deavon, Elvis, and Ricky helped replace my leaking dishwasher with a new one within a few hours. I look out the window and see the wonderful city high rises and feel gratitude. read more

I lived here for two years- I loved the first year and had an issue with the management/building upon re-signing. Terry Patrick went out of her way to make up for my negative experience and I appreciate that. I still love the building. The lobby attendants are great and they make an effort to know the tenants. The attendants in the dock are also very helpful and have delivered packages to me when I was not able to retrieve them. Our apartment is nice- maybe not as fancy as some of the others up Randolph Ave, but it does the job for me. The negatives: -It's true, the internet/cable is terrible (but free). Unfortunately, you cannot order your own service through, say, Comcast. It's just something you have to deal with. -Our heating system works fine, but sometimes I feel it does not regulate the temperature very well (so I end up getting to warm and have to shut off the heater only to have to turn it on again later) Those are all of my "issues" with the apartment, which may be applicable to other complexes. Given that some of the reviews are dated, and now that I've spent over a month here, I thought I'd share my insights. I like living at Millennium Park Plaza (MPP), and would recommend it. Note that the staff or management may have changed since the previous reviewers' comments, but I have no way of confirming this. Pros + The location cannot be beat. Millennium Park and Grant Park are a couple of mins walk away, MagMile is just across the river, and access to public transport (Metra / El / Buses) is great as well. + Staff at MPP. Everyone from the property manager, loading dock staff, and maintenance crew has been very responsive and helpful. A minor issue I flagged in my unit was resolved promptly the next day. + Gym and indoor pool. I'll say that the gym is between basic and decent, but it has everything I need, so it works for me. I like the indoor pool, too. + Internet and Cable. Both are included in the rent. The cable includes mostly standard channels (think TBS, USA, FX ...) but also three HBO channels. Cons - If you have a car and park at MPP, you know where this is going. The garage area is in the lower level and I've occasionally seen some sketchy characters milling around. It's also quite dark near the garage and loading dock area. This is really more a Chicago issue than an MPP one, though. I gave up my car, so I don't have to deal with the lower levels any more. In summary, I think MPP is good value for money. I know that there're newer buildings in the vicinity, but they're also priced higher. MPP may not be for everyone, but it certainly deserves a look. I was initially concerned after reading the negative reviews, but after I visited the building and looked through a few apartments, I knew I wanted to live here. read more

UPDATE: The internet is TERRIBLE! Please MMP fix this. It's honestly so slow I consider throwing my head through the door. Will that solve anything, no, but maybe it will make me less irritated. Good luck trying do anything online at all. The internet is basically useless. ---------------- I'm shocked this place has two stars. It's honestly one of the best apartment complex I have ever seen. They just redid the washer and dryer room and also added a huge lounge and study room that are amazing. There also is an amazing up to date gym, yoga room and pool which is awesome and never crowded. The staff are friendly and maintenance is extremely fast with anything you need. Also, directv and Internet are included. That's huge for saving money! Highly recommend this place! My only con is that because of location, the streets can be loud and nuts. But honestly that would never outweigh all the amazing benefits his building provides. read more

I am so disappointed by the way Terry in the management office handled the very important issue of invasion of privacy that we had in our apartment. I asked to meet and talk to her downstairs in her office to discuss the problem and she say that she can only talk to me on the phone, and not in person, which was odd. I asked if she would have time anytime in the next few days, and she again mentioned that we can ONLY talk on the phone. This is the second time we experience such unprofessional behavior from her, even though she brags about doing her job for 30 years every time a subject comes up. I really like the hardworking people in the management office, but this is just disappointing. I wouldn't renew my lease, and wouldn't recommend this management to others. read more

I recently moved out of MPP after living there for over 2.5 years with my medium sized dog, Reagan. Art and Jordan not only were always the best and friendliest at the loading dock but also made my move out day go so much smoother when I became panicked over my movers showing up two hours late. I still frequent the building for various appointments. Even though I no longer live there the staff is still just as friendly to me as when I lived there and even have ask me to bring my dog by so they can say hello. Dormell, Erin, Sam and Rich were always so helpful and kind to me. It was a great location for me while I was finishing school at SAIC and an even better location just in general. I woke up every morning to a beautiful sunrise over the bean and millennium park. Everything I needed was just steps away, even in my option the best dog park in the city. Maintenance was always very on top of everything when something needed to get fixed etc. The front office and management was very helpful and communicative when I had questions or concerns and always accommodated me quickly. I definitely miss living here. They have been working really hard to make this a more upscale building and it show, but I think the people are definitely one of the best parts of this place! read more

I lived here for 12 months and had a great experience! Move in was a bit hectic, because the apartment wasn't fully ready (we arrived to a bedroom with dirty carpet, weak shower pressure, broken cabinet mirrors) BUT we reported our issues, and the maintenance team sorted all of it out (replaced old carpets with new ones, etc.) in a week or so. The rest of my time here was good, and this building offers great value for its location, gym upstairs, and laundry room. It is also pet friendly. The people who works here are really lovely and you can tell everyone tries really hard. The guys in the Mail/Package room are great (esp. Jordan)! I admire Terry Patrick who runs the building management - she runs a tight ship. I also give Stephen Canno the handyman on the maintenance team here 5 star reviews for his positive attitude and efforts. All round A for effort. The only room for improvements I can think of is this building could probably do with a bit of renovation in its hallways - looks old and dormitory like, like we're living in the 70s. Something I didn't realise before moving in was: There are a lot of U Chicago Business school kids who live here and sometimes they treat the apartments poorly via their partying, I feel bad for maintenance who has to clean up after these mistreated apartments. Some days the smell of weed also floats down the halls, or there's loud partying music at the strangest hours of the night/ on a weekday. At least they're have fun... Anyway, MPP was a great home for me during my time in Chicago. read more

A dozen large spiders spun a network of webs that hang on the external windows of my apartment. They are close to the window that opens to the inside of the apartment, and I am concerned that the spiders could get into the building if another tenant opens their window and screen due to the summer heat. I contacted management about the issue over a month ago, but the spiders have only multiplied in the face of management's inaction. The building is in a great location. Update: the facilities manager arranged for my windows to be treated and the spiderwebs removed after a member of the staff saw this Yelp review. I appreciate that they took action, and I have adjusted my review accordingly. Update: the property manager consistently delivers poor customer service. This is my first review but I believe the service I received here merits it! I have lived at the MPP for almost a year and love the location. A couple of weeks ago my refrigerator broke. I called the building manager Terry Patrick and instantly she started to put things in motion to get it fixed. She had the maintenance team run up a temporary fridge so our food didn't go bad... and within a week she had replaced not only the fridge w/ a brand new stainless steel GE but also all of my appliances as to make sure nothing like this would happen again. Overall this is a great place to live, doormen are really friendly and the rooftop view is second to none in this city. Highly recommend this place! read more

I moved to Chicago from NY July 2019 and let me tell you, I have had nothing but a top shelf experience. my original apartment search was remote and the leasing agent took me on a guided video tour and catered to anything I needed in order to make a decision. I am now one year into my lease and instead of moving out of my studio, I was able to upgrade to a one bedroom easily. The property manager did everything she could to ensure a smooth and cost effective transition, which is remarkable given the challenged Covid-19 has imposed on everyones daily life. the apartments are spacious, both studios and one bedroom. The front desk workers are extremely polite and respectful. the complex is always clean, never had any issues with noise, and the location is immaculate. You can not get a better location, price, and experience. 10/10 property! read more

I have been living at MPP for a year now. Like most reviews I read, I do agree with the problem of internet. The internet is fast when it works but if you are Skype heavy person for work or family this place is not for you. Every time I Skype the connection is lost at some point. I had an issue with allergens in my personal carpet, and DJ kindly offered to clean my personal carpet for free, and even did it within only a couple days. Sam has been extremely helpful on many things that I've needed advice on in the area (as far as cleaning, etc.) and has overall been a kind face and a friend in the building. MPP has definitely changed their game up these past few years. I'm a University of Chicago student who has lived here for the past two years, in a three bedroom and bedroom unit and its been great! I've really enjoyed my time here and getting to know the staff/management. They are very responsive, friendly, kind, and most importantly willing to work with you. The units are fantastic (new appliances, large units, high floors have minimal noise facing the lake) with great views of the lake/bean and the location/price is unbeatable. You have close proximity to metra and tons of food options around the loop as well. Many of the negative reviews were posted when they had construction going on the building, but that is no longer an issue. They recently renovated the pool and service floor with wonderful study rooms and gym area as well. There are plenty of students in the building, working professionals, and a few families as well. They've also added quiet a few events for residents to mingle as well. If you ever have any issues maintenence is very responsive and gets things done as quickly as possible. Overall, MPP is fantastic and if you are nice to management they will do whatever they can do help you out. Terry, Julie, and Sha Ron definietly go above and beyond to help their tenants to make sure they have a great time living here and take your feedback seriously. Living in the heart of a city has always been a dream of mine, and I chose the perfect Apartment Building to live in! First of all, Terry, from the leasing office is very nice and very helpful with any questions you have. The doormen are very nice and greet you each day and make you feel welcomed. MPP is in the best location. Living a block away from Cloud Gate and the rest of the beautiful Millennium Park is nice. Being walking distance away from anything you need is a HUGE benefit. They have the roof open in the summer and there is the most amazing view of the city and Lake Michigan. My personal favorite amenity in the building is the pool. There is an awesome roof over the pool that has natural light coming in, very relaxing. I would definitely recommend! read more

I haven't written many scathing reviews. But I'm about to up that by 1. Off the bat, I want to tell every single person looking at MPP as they're starting school to NOT LIVE HERE. Spend a few extra bucks and look in other buildings in the area. This is, by far, the worst place I have ever lived in. Setting false expectations from the outset and then not delivering on them shows absolute disregard for tenants who pay a lot of money to live in a place that offers basic amenities promised reliably. RELIABLY. And that's something MPP just does not do well. On any budget, and especially on a student budget, this is just unacceptable. There's an issue with pretty much everything that you can name here. In no particular order - 1. Things just break down. For example, the internet, which is included in the rent, but we're supposed to talk to the cable company when its down (which it is often). Then there's the insulation, which just doesn't work. My heater breaks down so often that now I'm more inclined to bundle up in the apartment than call and talk to the management. Speaking to them just reminds me of their absolute disregard for their tenants. (except for the security guards downstairs - they're pleasant enough) 2. The construction was supposed to last for a 'short while.' The short while has now stretched to over 1 year now, with no respite. In fact, every passing day (and every email from the incredibly patronizing management) competes to outdo the ridiculousness and obnoxiousness of the previous. This is what I pay 1K+ for (live in a 3 bedroom). Absolutely unacceptable. And they have the nerve to raise the rent - the building looks like shit, it's always a task in the morning to figure out which elevator to take, as it is to figure out which one to get on when coming back, and its just ingratiating beyond means to see so many construction workers around all the time obstructing the way and yelling/drilling all the time. So much for making things comfortable for tenants now. 3. I understand the management is not entirely responsible for not changing anything. But they have a responsibility towards making sure our complaints reach and then are acted upon, especially when its been going on for so long. Going by the reviews recently, I am not the only one complaining - complaints have come from nearly every other person for various reasons and the fact that nothing is done about it other than patronizing emails coming in saying "we understand and we apologize" over and over again is just ridiculous. Just save your money, time, energy, AND sanity and live somewhere else. The hundred/couple of hundred bucks is just not worth it. Not at all. And you will NOT get the things you were promised. read more

I needed a full-service building for the sake of how many deliveries I get each day for work. The staff at our loading dock is A++. I usually get a call from them before FedEx notifies me. I'm so glad management is wasting its money on stale donuts as opposed to using it to make sure the renovation gets done faster. Meanwhile I'm living in a building with absolutely ZERO security (try it, no one will stop you from coming up the confusing maze that has replaced our lobby) and absolutely no functioning internet. That last bit is especially odd, since when I signed my lease I was told there was one internet provider for the building and I should be excited that the internet is free. And in case anyone from management takes a break from picking out "happy hour" snacks to read this review and complain it is the internet company's fault, lets recall that if something is a feature you offer in the building, then it is your job to make sure it works perfectly or switch providers. I know there have been at least two formal complaints filed and a fair number of lawyers called about this building, and it continues to baffle me that the management can't seem to effectively address a single concern or do something to actually apologize, like LOWER RENT. I don't need to warn anyone not to live here. It's about one lawsuit or complaint to the fire department from being shutdown anyway. read more

If existing tenants are giving you rave reviews, remember that they get a $750 referral fee from MPP, so you might want to double check their story. This fee has gone up from $500 last year bc obviously they need any help they can get. I've been here 2 years now. Here's my personal experience: Pros: location is fairly central if you don't mind the hoards of tourists, affordable compared to other buildings in the neighborhood. Cons: pretty much everything else. Most inexcusable is the poor management of the building. I've lived in lots of poorly managed properties in big cities as well as developing countries, but none compare to just how awful management is at MPP. Do not expect a prompt or professional response from the management office when you seek them out for anything (except if it's about paying them). An entire year has passed since our previous roommate moved out, yet management has still not removed his name and his subletter's name off our lease agreement, despite multiple emails requesting the change. Also, pretty sure that they are violating a slew of building and fire codes with all the construction that's been happening (pretty much throughout the 2 years I've been here and with very little warning). There have been several instances where water has been shut off without any warning and has been off for up to a few days. If you're a student or a light sleeper, don't expect to get much peace as construction noises (jackhammers, drills, etc) are going off from 6am until 6pm on some days. There's currently only one exit for the entire building, and it requires that you go up a few flights of stairs and then find your respective elevator amid the construction. In addition, the stairs going down end at the 2nd floor and it's impossible to find the next set of stairs out the building. Let's hope we don't have a fire. The more seasoned front desk staff are great (Sam, Rich, Dormell), but management decided to hire a bunch of new staff that literally do nothing except gossip in a circle with each other and ogle (and make inappropriate comments) at the women that live in the building. A lot of students live here, so if you're not a student, consider the higher noise levels. I could go on... But I'm moving out in 2 months so maybe things will change after that? Haha. After waking up to the sounds of jackhammers for over a year, I feel the need to actively discourage other people from living here. MPP is a living nightmare. I've been here for the last 2 years because of the following reasons: 1. It is very close to the Metra, which takes me and half the building down to Hyde Park for MBA school. 2. It is cheap and I am currently poor. These are literally the only pluses to living here. Let me do a quick rundown of the cons: 1. Never-ending construction. It's taken over a year to renovate the lobby. First, the back staircase was shut down. Then the south. Then the north. We are now sent through a veritable maze just to find the elevators. Wonderful construction planning. 2. Random water shutoffs. Hope you have friends nearby to use their shower during emergencies! 3. Elevator banks randomly shut down. Good luck being on time after waiting on your floor for 20 minutes. 4. Unreliable laundry. I've lost at least $20 to the machine breaking down, the cards not working, etc. I've talked to the manager and was there even an offer of just giving me the money back? Of course not, that wouldn't make sense here. 5. The internet/DirecTV gives out suddenly and for no reason. Then, you are forced to go through some random 3rd-party provider who makes Comcast service look like the Ritz-Carlton. 6. They raised rent while continually downgrading the living experience since I've been here. Thanks for that extra little barb. read more

I used to love my apartment in the building, until I decided to not renew my lease because I was moving out of Chicago. That's when the nightmare started - my lease ended on June 30th and starting in April, I had a steady stream of visitors that came in and out of my apartment whenever the leasing office felt like. They would notify me 24 hours in advance by slipping a piece of paper under the door, which one time did not actually get to me so the leasing agent actually barged into my bedroom while I was sleeping Saturday morning. Furthermore, when I requested to have no showing over graduation weekend because I had family staying with me, they denied my request. I honestly feel like my apartment is no longer my own, but reserved for viewings by the leasing office. read more

These 5 starts are directed towards our maintenance guy Steve Cano! He is hands down the most professional, reliable, and pleasant person among the MPP staff. We first met Steve shortly after moving into our apartment. The apartment was in bad shape and we immediately put in a maintenance request to fix the dishwasher. Steve came to fix the dishwasher and, realizing the state of our apartment, proactively took it upon himself to check/fix several broken items we hadn't even noticed yet. He spent several hours fixing our kitchen and bathroom drains, replacing fixtures/lightbulbs and even got me a new heating/cooling unit. Since that day, we have submitted several maintenance requests and have been fortunate to benefit from Steve's prompt, courteous, and high-quality work. He consistently goes above-and-beyond and instead of simply repairing something, he sets us up with tools to address the root cause of the issue. For example, our most recent request was to clear the tub drain which periodically gets clogged from hair. Not only did he clear the bathroom drain, but he installed a new shower head, knob, and hair catch strainer to prevent it from happening again. He also noticed that the toilet base was leaking so he replace all the toilet parts and resealed the bottom. He then cleared the sink drain and fixed the faucet water pressure. From a single tub drain request our entire bathroom basically got a renovation. Oh, and on his way out, he replaced a bad bulb that he noticed in the kitchen. All in all, Steve is the man. He is, without a doubt, the best handyman that I have the pleasure of meeting. I would highly recommend him for anyone seeking high-quality, and professional maintenance work. ....now if only I could say something nice about Terry and the rest of the disgruntled property management team.... read more

When I moved in, the apartment was filthy. When I complained, I was told that they have a lot of people moving in and out. Instead of providing excuses, they should have just cleaned the apartment without making excuses. Like others have said, things have been crazy with all of the construction. To make things worse - some of the staff here are horrible. A few are great (Art and Sam) but others feel very comfortable complaining about the building manager to residents. Generally, the ones who complain are incredibly unprofessional and should not be working in a setting where they have so much contact with people. The management thinks that they can make residents happy by providing happy hours. It would be best if they just got their stuff in order. Also, the front desk has never called me when guests come. They just let people in! Like others have also stated, people do smoke in this building and the smell will make its way into your apartment. Whoever smokes in a unit near me, it just so happen to hit my kitchen first. Its disgusting to prepare food while my kitchen reeks of cigarette smoke. I complained about this once. I was told that they will not go around trying to figure out who is smoking and then he hung up on me! Noise is also a problem and if someone horrible is working the front desk, nothing will be done about it. Its true. The cable company stinks. The Management does say it is included into our rent but it hardly works. If there are problems with the cable, they want us talking to the cable company when our contract is with the management. The management should use its power to either force the cable company to get its sh*t together or work with another company. I feel like I'm living in an over priced dorm. Stay away. BACKGROUND I lived for two years at MPP THE APARTMENTS: - Old, cheaply built, no attention to detail. - Floors are slanted. Most, if not all the apartments I have visited have slanted floors. Terrible quality. - The A/C units are so old that they will not work on a hot summer Chicago day. - Closet space is the only positive thing here but not worth considering these apartments THE BUILDING AND AMENITIES - Definitely the slowest internet I have ever used. - The laundry machines almost never work. I have lost over $25 in lost $1.25 charges because any given machine (washer or dryer) is broken and it doesn't have an "out of service" tag. Management doesn't take care of them, you're lucky if you find one working. - The pool is indoors (read: A/C). - The elevators are the worst part. If you plan to live here, add 10 - 15 minutes (not exaggerating) to your commute. In my two years here there has always been an elevator broken at any point in time. The elevators are old, dark, and falling apart. [Award for oldest elevators downtown Chicago?] - The "gym" only has a few old machines. There is a gym across the street - get a membership there. THE STAFF: - The only nice people are two doormen, Dormell and Sam, and Art who works at the dock. - There rest of the employees have a poor and unhelpful attitude. - Some doormen will not open the door or acknowledge you when you walk in. (compare this with Aqua, Tides, Park Millennium, or Columbus Plaza all much better) THE COMMUNITY 1) Business school students (who have negotiated cheap rent, $2200 for a 2 bedroom) 2) Rehab patients (about 5-6 girls and guys who share a small apartment) - these are the same people who you will find smoking in the stairs 3) International families - corporate apartments. Better alternatives are: The Tides, Aqua, Columbus Plaza, and Park Millennium. read more

Millenium Park Plaza has been wonderful to me during my three year stays. The positive and friendly staff, coupled with the amenities and proximity of public transportation makes it one of the most economical buildings in The Loop. While there is construction going on in the area, it's completely tolerable and has never poorly impacted my experience. Here are some pro's and con's of living in the building: PROS: All sources of public transportation are at your footsteps (i.e. Red, Orange, Green, Pink, Brown and Blue Lines), in addition to the major bus stops; the building is starting to have restaurants and good shops in it (i.e. Protein Bar, Garrett's Popcorn, and a new Cafe at the end of the month); the building has nice amenities (pool, gym, business center, and study rooms); occasionally the building does resident appreciation breakfasts; the units are INCREDIBLY SPACIOUS. My one-bedroom unit had two closets in the bedroom, in addition to a hallway closet. The internet/tv come with your rent! That's a no-brainer guys. The maintenance team responds to requests within 24-hours if something in your apartment needs to be fixed; And lastly, the staff is phenomenal. I've gotten to know the management team, front door staff, the loading dock staff and the garage staff and everyone treats you like their family. Over the past three years, they've looked out for me and been there for me in numerous instances! CONS: There's no washer and dryer in-unit and washing can get expensive; rent goes up each year (while small in amount, it adds up); the gym needs free weights; the elevator waits in the morning and afternoon when the Chicago Booth students are on their way/coming home from class are cumbersome; while the apartment is very pet friendly, there is no pet run for your dog to use the bathroom. So, it's either teaching them to go on the concrete outside the building or sneaking to use the grass at Millenium Park; valet parking prices are a tad bit pricey; and lastly heat can get a little expensive during the winter. All in all, for the amount paid in rent + internet/cable, air, trash and water, this is a Big Bang for your buck and I've enjoyed my time here. I lived her for two years and loved my experience in this apartment! I now no longer live in Chicago, but I had a package accidentally sent to my old address at MPP. Since it was expensive, I called the property manager to see if they could ship it to me. Terry went above and beyond the call of duty and even offered to pay for the shipping herself. Thank you MPP! Let me start of this review by discussing the undeniable pros of living in Millennium Park Plaza (MPP): 1) Location - you're as centrally located in Chicago as you can get. The option to walk pretty much anywhere in the Loop or River North is a HUGE plus. However, remember there are quite a few other buildings in the area that are (at this point) comparably priced and offer similar location benefits. 2) The general staff in the building, manning the front desk (shout out to Sam and Richard), working security, providing maintenance services, have all been incredibly friendly and willing to help as much as they can. I greatly appreciated them. Before I discuss the negatives, let me give you a bit of background on my previous living experiences. In Chicago I've lived in student housing/slumlord apartments in Hyde Park, I've lived above the bars on State and Division where a drunk neighbor flooded my unit trying to do dishes while blacked out at four in the morning. Outside this country, I've lived in third-world nations and once had an incident where my upstairs neighbor set the building on fire because he was stockpiling propane and tires in preparation for resisting a possible military coup. In all of these locations, I have NEVER felt more strongly that management and ownership of my residence cared less about the needs and time of their current clients. Let me be clear--I've certainly lived in worse circumstances and buildings, but at least I always felt management in those places did their best with limited resources to put their current clients first. MPP management is happy to take your rent checks and provide service far below what you should expect for that kind of payment. I'm not expecting marble bathrooms here. I'm expecting at least ONE elevator to be functioning when I get back from a 22-hour plane flight. When my roommate and I first were looking at this building, we were told there might be "minor renovation work" being done during the time of our stay. I interpreted that (foolishly) to mean that units were likely being rehabbed, or that the lobby might be getting some minor updates. Six months in, they'd essentially detonated the lower lobby, surrounded the bottom two floors with scaffolding, and removed the study rooms they'd happily shown to us when we were visiting. Half of the elevators in the building (3 of 6 for what I estimate to be approximately 600 units) were regularly shut down during the morning rush hour. Can you imagine the frustration as you're trying to get to work and you wait 15 minutes just to get out of the damn building? Most of us have bosses who aren't particularly interested in the construction state of our residence when it comes to planning morning meetings. These shut downs aren't always identified in advance--sometimes notices are posted on elevator doors, sometimes you just discover them when the line of people in the lobby trying to get up/down turns out to be 20 - 30 people long. Interestingly enough, the signs all disappeared during admit weekend for Booth, as the building was only too happy neglect to mention these minor hindrances to possible incoming residents. Oh, I haven't even mentioned the time the construction caused what may have been an electrical fire, shut down the water pumps, and they failed to warn anyone in the building they were re-starting water at around six in the morning. According to staff, "dozens" of units flooded, including ours, where the toilet exploded. Credit to the maintenance staff for working in overwhelmed conditions. Pathetic communication by management means I still don't know for sure if it was a fire that shut down the pumps, and nobody knew to turn off their water ahead of the restart. Let's also be clear that complaints, even when made by a significant number of tenants, will likely be ignored by management. All year we were told that the incredibly inconsistent internet speeds and connectivity were due to our individual wireless routers, rather than the fact that the building forces the use of a single, satellite-based internet provider. Welcome to Generation X and Millennial tenants, MPP. We know damn well when we're plugged directly into the Ethernet jack in the wall, and we're pretty sure that means it's not our "personal wireless router" that's causing the problems. In short, location is great. Find another building in a similar spot. This building places little to no value on your time or convenience, and for God's sake, if you're spending over a grand a month to live somewhere, you should hope they can demonstrate better interest in your well-being than student housing in Hyde Park. read more

The construction is a terrible inconvenience. The elevators are often shut down during peak hours which causes elevators cars to be heavily congested, when you are able to land one. It takes up to 20 minutes to get an elevator sometimes. Also, each week, there is a new path you need to take to get in and out of the building, which is very confusing. Further, there is no security right now. The door that you once needed a fob to get in doesn't exist. Pretty much anyone can get into the building, no questions asked. The building also advertises that internet is included but the internet connection is awful. It is constantly cutting in and out and is very slow in general. I initially moved into the building because of the affordable rent and ideal location. However, at this point I feel like I definitely overpaid to live here. read more
