Arrived at 7 am yesterday. Do not recommend sitting anywhere near the kitchen as you'll hear the complaints of the kitchen staff in addition to the waitresses. Old, wobbly tables with the thick plastic-y table cloths from the 70s or 80s. Service was slow even though it wasn't that busy yet. For food we had the Southerner with bacon and scrambled eggs, and biscuits & gravy with scrambled eggs and hash browns. The biscuits & gravy were passable, the bacon was fatty and undercooked, the scrambled eggs were bland and dry, and the hash browns were burnt. Coffee couldn't even compete with Kwik Trip. I don't know, after re-reading my review I'm tempted to bump it down to two stars instead of three, but maybe the regular cook is on vacation??? read more

If you are going out for breakfast in the north woods, this is the place to go. I don't think they take reservations but the wait was short and there are plenty of chairs to sit on outside. You can even order a bloody mary while you wait. The bloody mary was fabulous! Practically a meal itself. Really good mix and lots of garnish! I had the Wild Rice and Ham Omelette with crispy (ask for them crispy) hash browns and a side of pancakes. Lots of food, but you can always skip lunch. I loved the omelette, highly recommend. We hit this place up for breakfast on our way out of town. We are glad we did as it was fabulous. Just a little country breakfast place with elevated food. I had two potato pancakes and I knew I was in trouble when they came out and covered the whole plate as did the regular pancakes. I ordered ham which was two thick slices, almost pork chop size and scrambled eggs. I also ordered a side of applesauce to go with my potato pancakes. My husband and I usually hit the Robin's Nest for breakfast every year or so when we visit Hayward, Wi. I heard that two years ago it was under new ownership. This time when we arrived, the waitress told us to wait, then took an order. My husband is handicapped and cannot stand too long. And as we were waiting for a while, she just yelled out, you can sit anywhere. We sat down. She started clearing a table and brought a half drunken coke to our table. She spilled it all over my lap. She said her nails were too long. I don't think it was a good idea to take garbage from another table to our table while asking for our order. Who does that. Anyhow I heard her in the other room telling someone what she just did. They must have thought it was funny because no one came out to apologize. Anyhow, we finished out meal, my pants began to dry a little. As she was giving us the receipt, she threw it on the table. It fell off and my husband had to grab for it. No apologies. I thought they would at least pay for my breakfast. Nothing. Every year it is so crowded there, sometimes we have to come back. This year plenty of space to park and sit inside. That should tell you something. The owner should really pay attention to what and how his waitresses are doing their work. My husband and I will never go back. However, there are plenty of good places in Hayward, Wi. Like the Los Patrales Restaurant for lunch and dinner. Try them. You won't be disappointed by the food or service. read more

You'd think they were located in a more populous area for the amount of people waiting. The predominant wait area is outside on benches placed near the door. This is not a bad thing on those beautiful mornings, but not sure what one would do in inclement weather other than eat somewhere else. Expect about a 20-30 minute wait to be seated. (Side tip, there are 4 counter seats that are first come first serve. Something to check out if you're dining on your own. Very generous portion sizes and really a solid breakfast. Perhaps accurate, as other reviewers noted best in the northwoods. It is rather difficult to screw up breakfast. This restaurant is wildly popular and often has quite a wait. For a Northwoods restaurant it is definitely above average, although I wouldn't say great. I have been here for breakfast several times and between my husband and our friends, we have tried most everything. The variety of breakfast options is pretty impressive with omelettes, potato pancakes, all sorts of egg dishes, chorizo hash, fench toast, and tons more. We have always been happy with our food. My fave is just the simple eggs and sausage because it's actually much more than that. You get a side of hash browns, or breakfast fries (crispy and delish!) Or Cajun potatoes or cheesy grits. Wow. Hands down my favorite place to go in the north woods. I would rather go to breakfast here than out to any other place for supper. Food is amazing-my favorites include andouille and wild rice and the southwestern omelet, my husbands is the Cajun breakfast scramble. Tried their key lime pie crepes yesterday and they were simply to die for. Their pancake of the month is always great. Staff are friendly and you always see the same smiling faces there. Hidden gem in the north woods! All three times I have dined at The Robin's Nest for breakfast, I have been served by the kindest people. The staff are all so sweet and genuine. Great coffee! They have a selection of coffee creamers available on the tables such as Hershey's chocolate creamer, French vanilla, and half and half. I ordered the chocolate chip pancake for $4.50 and it was HUGE and delicious. Same with the blueberry pancake. For omelet lovers and people watching what they eat, I recommend the cholesterol free omelet. It's vegetables (mushrooms, green peppers, onions) are steamed which keeps it low fat. It is a very fluffy omelet and is incredibly filling. Tip: it's even better with salsa! Serving sizes are huge, great value, filling and delicious breakfast. I will be returning! read more

Above average little diner! The inside was a little out dated but it just gave it charm. The location is awesome because you have a pretty view of the lake across the street. Food was great. We went for a late breakfast on Labor Day Monday and found a wait to be seated for two.. we waited 45-60 mins and were seated at the counter, which we said we were fine seated at the counter when we checked in. Once seated we were greeted by Flora who took our order without delay .. Had a Bloody Mary with salted rims and my wife had a large iced tea. The place was clean especially after a heavy morning breakfast rush. The food came quickly and served piping out! I chose the corned beef hash with over easy eggs and Cajun home fries .. my wife selected the Sausage and biscuits which she loved along with over easy eggs and toast .. all food was cooked to perfection .. if you leave hungry, that is on you !! Large portions ,good quality food along with some great imagination in menu design makes this place stand above others . Really enjoyed Flora's service and pleasant demeanor. Bow has been our server in the past and was pleasant and funny as well as efficient in his own way. This location earns 4 STARS from me for the YELP Restaurant Walk of Fame. PACKED! Every day of the week! We were in the area for 7 days. The parking lot is JAMMMED by 830am. We snagged window seats at 730am. Sit where you want! Score! Servers are friendly. Attentive and not hovering. The restaurant is clean. I scouted around and noted that the porch area has about 9 or 10 tables seating 4-6 each. Second level has 4 tables that seat 6 or so plus a counter that seats 5. There is a micro gift area along one wall that includes maple syrup, journals, and Sutter Home wine.?. They have a few games to play while waiting. We ordered the specials which are written on a board above the register. My chef husband says: it was hot, it was quick, it was reasonable. He had the August Special of a portion and a half of corned beef hash, eggs, biscuits and gravy. $8.99. The corned beef hash was from a can. The gravy was from a bag. BUT for what they used it was cooked properly. He also had regular coffee which was fine. I ordered orange juice, decaf coffee (weak!!!!!), bacon and the wild rice/Craisin/walnut pancake. GET THIS PANCAKE WHILE THEY HAVE IT!!!!!! I would eat one every single day! Add REAL syrup (not offered) and SCORE! My suggestion would be for the store to offer their syrup with their special! What a cute little find in Hayward, WI. I've been going to a friend's cabin in the area for a year or two and I could sum up the dining-out experiences on the way to be mediocre at best.
