My husband and I were tooling around nantucket in our flashy,new, red rental jeep aptly attired in our best attempt at summer casual but not too casual attire that looks expensive without trying too hard. Somehow we missed the turn off for Eel point and ended up in Madaket instead. The day was waning but lucky for us the Millie's take out window was still open and offering items from the main menu. My Husband ordered the Hither Creek Taco for $19.95 and I had the Millie's Creek poor boy for about a dollar less. Both of these came with a side of summer rice salad (jasmine rice, chick peas, cilantro I think, slight slivers of red onion, possibly cinnamon, corn, some other goodies) which I really appreciated for originality. We asked if we could sit at the tables outside but were informed (very very nicely) that these were full service. Fair enough. I am 100% certain this had nothing to do with my jeep hair. We retreated to said jeep to enjoy our meal and people watch as people arrived for dinner. The fish taco looked awesome with grilled striped bass in a corn tortilla with tomato and sweet corn salsa, guacamole, and lime sour cream. I felt a little jealous and was planning on grabbing a bite when I opened up my poor boy and dug into fried whole belly clams with creamy red cabbage slaw on a bun. I honestly can't remember the bun all that well but it was a little mushy due to the slaw which is usually a deal breaker for me with a sandwich and would have been a problem if we had ordered to go and gone further than the parking lot. That coupled with the fact that I love clams but find the whole bellies gross had me thinking this was going to be a disappointing meal. However quite to the contrary I can't remember the last time I ate so much of something I don't usually go crazy for. I was well past full when I finished the sandwich and kept on going right through the rice. It was pretty good. I remember sinking my teeth into that strange whole bellied mush, but it was so tasty and fresh I didn't even care. Loved the slice of lime garnish which I chose to squirt on everything. Over all a pretty great experience and the only improvement I could see would be a few pick nick tables for the takeout window. read more

Ugh. I heard so much about this place over the years and finally tried it. Food was so bad. Chicken Quesadilla was overloaded with chunks of greasy chicken and barely any cheese. The rice looked like it was colored yellow to look like spanish rice and was flavorless. My husband had the Brandt Point quesadilla and again just flavorless. Quintessential beach restaurant... The great thing about this place is that it offers very nice indoor dining or "just rolled off the beach with your friends and dog" outdoor service window and patio. I came here to pick up food to eat while at Cisco Brewery. Can't remember their special names for the tacos but we had the steak and the chicken tacos. Both were large but pricey at $16 for 2 burrito style tacos (with small amount of rice side). I had my pooch with me so it was great to be able to order from the window while me and my gf enjoyed a cup of ice cream while we waited. This place deserves 5 stars for its service (everyone was very nice), quality of food, proximity to the beach, and of course the full service outdoor window. read more

A six mile bike ride for fish tacos? Um, ya! The old West Ender is now Millies, and we stopped by for lunch. Apps - chips with guacamole and salsa. The guac was lacking something (salsa, garlic?) but the salsa was ok. Main: fish taco's - excellent. Good tasting halibut, corn, tomatoes, red onion, salsa, guac, and lime. It came with rice but it wasn't necessary; the 2 taco's were enough. Also ordered - chicken quesadilla; large chunks of chicken, with all the usual goodness inside. Scallops quesadilla - same as above but with scallops instead. Awesome!! Shrimps with caramelized onions over salad - again, excellent. Maybe it was the 6 miles on uncomfortable bike seats in the mid-day sun, but EVERYONE was happy with what the ordered (an unusual feat for a party if 7). Take a table by the windows and watch the surf pound the beach in the distance (with a frosty brew in your hands, of course). I'll definitely come back again for lunch. read more

Absolutely ridiculous 1.5 hour wait for outside seating & 1 hour wait for inside seating...with no line & about 5 empty tables! This was at 5-5:30pm on multiple days (weekdays). Either my lunch/dinner needs have changed after 4+ years on Nantucket with young kids, Millie's continues to get better and better, or I've simply accepted Millie's for what it is--in any event, we now find ourselves drawn here at the very least once a week and thus far have enjoyed every visit this season. Yes, the outdoor tables are perhaps "too campy;" yes, the wait can be frustratingly long at peak times; and yes, not all menu items are equally exceptional (tuna tacos and scallop tacos are the "stand outs" in my book.) However, the service is now efficient (used to not always be the case), the overall quality of the food in quite good, the views (from the second floor) are fantastic, and the place for those of us with kids is "kid friendly." If you're looking for an elaborate meal or a "romantic night out," still look elsewhere--Millie's regrettable continues to feel a little "rushed." (Then again, given the limited seating capacity and short season, who can blame the restaurant.) But if the day/night calls for dynamite Tex Mex/Southwestern food with good beer, solid wine and great views, look no further. read more

Four stars? Aside from the prices and banality, the "striped bass" tacos (at $24) were the worst offense that they offered. One was as dry as jerky. The second slightly better. Plus. I'll be a monkey's uncle if they did sub out striped bass for cod. I've never eaten a skinnier "bass". The chips and dip were equally offensive. Felt queasy after eating here. Great fish tacos, huge salads. Madaket Millie's is pretty sanely priced, when you are existing in the Nantucket price scale of things. It is also loud, with its high ceilings, and wood centric interior. Long lines start happening at prime time. But, if you can get a table, this place situation in what feels like a gutted and redone two story old house out in Madaket has good food, good drinks, and unbelievable views of oceans, beach, dunes, and sunset if you time it right. This would also be fun for tourists who want to rent bikes for the day and have a beach adventure. You could rent bikes, take the bike path out to Millie's in time for lunch, and then spend the afternoon at one of the several nice beaches out there Millie's practically straddles. Then ride your bikes back into Town having had a nicely paced day of action, eating, and relaxation. You can Google Maps double check on me, but I think it is around a 45 minute bike rider each way or so. Oh, their taco truck out a Cisco Brewery is also excellent, relatively fair on the prices, and another fun bike ride adventure. But there is also a shuttle back and forth from town to get there. Look for the Cisco Brewery shuttle. Better than driving, because a visit to the Brewery's beer garden is crazy popular and they run out of parking spaces very quickly. read more

Mexican seafood? With a view? Sign. Me. Up. We started with a basket of chips and guac, the proportion of chips to guac was off, but the flavor of which was spot on. The bits of red onion and lime flavors were there and tasty. I then tucked in to the Steps Beach quesadilla with "lobster meat, slow roasted tomato, grilled zucchini, jack & cheddar cheese". It also came with a side of salsa and lime crema. It was insane. The portion size was huge. You can definitely get more than one meal out of this dish, or just plow through it like the greedy hungry monsters my husband and I were. The flavors were perfectly balanced, and while this is by no stretch of the imagination a LIGHT meal, the veggies in the quesadilla were a nice balance. Service was very efficient and friendly. The bartender accidentally poured Arnold Palmers instead of straight up iced teas, our waitress noticed the "off" color as she was putting them down but made sure to ask us instead of whisking anything away. It turned out to be a good accident. The upstairs has fantastic views of the surrounding area and water. Great for lunch or beer and conversation! read more

We spent few minutes walking Madaket beach before being notified via text that our table was ready. Menu options are good and prices reasonable. Note to self: Do NOT go to Millie's when all the college kids have gone back to school. We typically love Millie's, food is usually really fast, and yummy. Once the college kids are gone, they are severely understaffed and it is noticeable, in the service and the food. Today it was estimated 30 minute wait, took over an hour (and that was after I checked in at the hostess stand because multiple tables were empty). Once we sat, it took 15 minutes before anyone came to our table. Then once we ordered, it took about 40 minutes to get our entrees (usually takes 10-15). The food was not as good as usual. And don't bother with takeout. You will call and it will take an hour and a half for that. On a positive note, the margaritas are really good. read more

My family has visited Millie's many times while on island. Tonight we made the trip from in town on a rainy night (always well worth it). Since the weather was bad it wasn't very busy. We love the love lobster quesadilla, quac and margaritas. Also, a big fan of the chips and queso! Tonight we had the unfortunate experience of being waited on by Emily (brunette with long hair). She created one of the most uncomfortable dining experiences. I didn't say anything at first but when my 12 year old said "what is wrong with her" I knew I wasn't imagining it. This place is awesome! It can be rather warm inside. I've been here a couple of times and they had windows open but no a/c. Not to the main attraction: the food! We've been here as a family a few times over the past couple of years. It's a good place to take a family it is loud at the peak dinner time. We've only been during high season in the summer. The food is a tex mex meets Nantucket. It works beautifully. I've had the scallop quesadilla and lobster quesadilla. The cocktails are terrific. The Millie's Mystery is sort of a rum punch and goes well with their hot sauce on a quesadilla. The shuttle bus out to Madaket is a pleasant ride and a small adventure. Go. Don't come here for the food. The last two years my husband and I came here, the food and drink have been pretty awful. The salsa had pickle in it, the $15 mixed drinks tasted like super sweet dive bar drinks, the chicken on my salad was scrappy and greasy, my husbands fish tacos had fish skin in them and tasted "fishy" in a bad way, and I asked for no peanuts because I'm allergic and my salad had peanuts in it! I hate leaving a bad review but I feel like we've been robbed. It's hard to be so down on a place when you're in paradise- that's how bad it was.
