The woman at the front desk acted like I was crazy out of my mind for saying I had an appointment today . They offered no apologies. and made no attempt to reschedule. They did tell me that I could wait an hour because the hygienist had a patient at 12:30, which was supposed to be me. Prior to this, I had billing problems with them. One time they didn't bill my insurance. When questioned, they said it was because the image of the card I sent them was blurry. Instead of telling me that it was blurry and asking me to send a new one, they just didn't bill insurance and kept sending me bills. ??? I sent a new clearer image to the 2-to-3 different phone numbers they told me to text it to and I guess one of them finally worked and they billed insurance. Then they told me there was a balance still due so I called and the woman, and over the phone she said the remaining balance was $23 so I paid it. Two days later I got a bill for $44. It's just these weird expenses and a very disorganized scheduling and building system. Today the woman at the front desk, even though I was clearly upset when I left shouted "have a nice day!" after me in a passive aggressive way. The hygienist I had was good but the billing and front desk staff are unacceptably bad. I'm happy to be moving.

Always been exceptional and outstanding. With Dr. EADS retired now, not sure how it will be going…read moreforward.

Updated, I am waiting to finish this review until I see how this gets resolved…read more Here's the update with my original review below. I didn't end up getting the root canal that day, but I still ended up having to pay $444 out-of-pocket! I'm disabled and on Medicare. They said it included the consultation, a $75 fee for some kind of pulp test, which really was tapping my tooth and touching it with something cold, which took about 30 seconds, and then the rest was the charge for the CBCT scan and X-rays. Now, had I known that I was going to pay that much for a consultation, which only included a short visit and the images, I would have gone to the best endodontist in town. Not to say that I didn't like the doctor, but that much money for a quick In-N-Out is ridiculous. I have traveled great distances to big cities to consult with a surgeon, periodontist, and tongue/airway specialist ENT, all considered at top of their field around the world, which is why I traveled to see them, and the most I paid was $350 per visit. And that was within the last five years. These visits were in depth. I showed up, knowing that I was gonna be there for a good hour, have a full exam, full images worked up, and leave with a very solid idea of what I needed to do next. Those appointments were well worth the money. So to go to this corporate chain office and pay this much for a consultation with an image of only my tooth and the bone around it, not my whole head and skull like I paid for in the other visits, seems like a HUGE over charge! I am shocked. I sat in the parking lot and cried. Before I left, I asked the office manager if she would make a request to the doctor on my behalf that he lower his fee, but they still took my $444 today anyway. I'm waiting to hear back, and if that works out well, I will include that here in my story and I will improve my rating. But so far we're not off to a good start. Here's the original review: I'm on Humana Medicare and the only endodontist in network is at this location once a month. I made my appointment, and they took my insurance info etc and I had a referral emailed to them. I was warned by my dentist that he'd seen some really bad implants done here at Aspen and he said make sure the endodontist is not the same as the oral surgeon who does implants. He said he's not the only doctor to see terrible work from Aspen. Yikes! So I showed up 30 minutes early for my appointment and it was a good thing I did because when I got here they said they didn't have my referral, which I know was sent. The woman in the office said she was out of town so it wasn't filled correctly. I was also blindsided by a several hundred dollars out of pocket cost that I was not notified of! Again she said that would have been done correctly if she'd been in the office. One excuse after another. I think her name is Carrie. I've seen other reviews here that mentioned a really rude office manager, and I will assume that this is the same woman. She was the manager. I already have enough frustration that I'm giving a negative review! Let's hope the root canal is better than the customer service.

Amazing service, very kind front desk, very welcoming, and great gentle care. I will be come back!read more

Super impressed. I have been seeing another dentist in Bloomington since 2016. I liked his office,…read morehowever, their dental equipment is not modern (you rinse with a paper cup and spit into a sink) and I never felt like I was getting the best possible cleaning from the hygienist. My partner has been going to BFD since we moved here, so I decided to give them a try. Went in today and had x-rays taken with state of the art equipment. Andrea, the hygienist, was great. She explained everything she was doing. She then gave me a really excellent cleaning. I honestly felt like the first REAL cleaning my teeth had since moving to Bloomington (even though I just had one at my other dentist's office four months ago). Dr. Shirley examined my teeth and talked to me about a filling that I have lost recently. He was friendly, explained everything that would be done when they replace the filling and spent a good amount of time with me, answering all my questions. Andrea explained the cost of the upcoming filling procedure so that there will not be any surprises when I return. Large office, plenty of parking. A bit weird getting in and out of the lot due to road work but that should be completed soon. All in all, a really great experience and I am one of those people who really HATES going to the dentist. Now I just need to call and cancel my cleaning appointment at my former dentist's office, because Bloomington Family Dental has won me over. I am an avid Yelp user and the negative reviews of BFD had kept me away. Regardless, don't let the negative reviews sway you. If you are looking for a Bloomington dental office that is modern, friendly and thorough, I highly recommend this office.

We payed for the treatment at the time of service and thought that we were done. Several months later we received a bill from them, stating it was for my work. Our insurance sent us a statement claiming that it had been filed as something else. When confronted about the bill, the office staff treated me like I knew nothing, talked over me, and put me down, not letting me get in a word edgewise. We payed the bill, still not understanding why, and left the practice. Fast forward a few months, I found another dentist, and at our first cleaning, he saw what looked like faulty work. When confronted with it, Dr Allen called me a liar to my face and said so to the other dentist. When I called and asked him about it, obviously unhappy about being called a liar, he defended his position and HUNG UP ON ME without letting me say anything but hello. When I tried to say anything, he just talked louder and faster. I was upset, yes, but I was still trying to be curteous and polite. I called back to talk to him. He refused to talk to me, and had a dental assistant talk to me instead. I was able to have a conversation with her, one where I was finally listened to, and we were able to resolve the bill question, and talk about the work (not faulty). I would have been totally happy with this office if I had never run into any problems. Unfortunately, when I did have a problem, they would not take the time to professionally explain the matter. Only ignored my questions, talked over me, degraded me, and would not listen to anyone but themselves. Had they addressed the problems in a different way, they would still have my business. But when I can't trust them, or bring up my problems with them, it's time to change. And calling someone a liar without bothering to listen to them is NEVER ok, especially in a professional setting. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend them because of this.
