And while some burger joints hide behind toppings with lower quality beef, just one taste of the burger patty all by itself makes it clear that Millstone only uses meat of superior quality! The food was delicious! We ordered the chicken tenders and the BBQ trio plate, and both were excellent with generous portion sizes. The service was amazing, and everyone we interacted with was incredibly friendly and accommodating. One of the kitchen staff members even helped us open an umbrella so we could sit outside. Later, when he came out for a smoke break and noticed we were still eating, he thoughtfully moved to the other side of the building. We were traveling with our two dogs and appreciated that they were welcome both inside and outside. We chose to sit on the patio, and our waitress immediately brought out a bowl of ice water for the dogs without us even having to ask. The bathrooms were also very clean and charmingly decorated. Gf options are scarce at the Millstone, but it is what it is. I got potato skins for an appetizer. They were good. Plenty of potato left inside, and not fried into oblivion. Partner ordered hamburger with no bun and a sweet potato. Burger looked and tasted like a burger. Sweet potato was good. Butter wasn't available. An oil based spread was offered instead. I had sweet potato fries- very good. My catfish was cornmeal and floured and then fried. The season on the fish was super good. The cat was watery and kind mush with little flavor. Portions were plentiful. Overall it was a decent place. Food is fine, location, interior and staff were terrific. Taste is subjective. You may find it delicious. I hope you do. We stopped here for lunch while passing. The service was amazing, super friendly and refills without asking. The restaurant was quaint but current and clean. Prices were not bad. Two of us had sandwiches which we thought were 5 star worthy. The other two had ribs with mac and were very disappointed, 3 stars. Ribs were very very dry and had a bitter smoke. It is usually a 5 star but....We are at Millstone at least once a week. The food is great and the staff are exemplary We went to eat and listen to Mr Martin perform, he is amazing. Everything was perfect except the heat in the dining area. It was close to unbearable. The more people who came, the hotter it got. Hope it gets fixed this year. Thank you! Yes Yelpers, I am thanking you. What a truly delightful family run place. The restaurant we had planned on was closed today so we turned to our trusty Yelp! and discovered a new place. Millstone Restaurant. We both had the smoked brisket served with BBQ sauce or horseradish and two sides. We opted for both sauces on the side and it was a good thing too. We couldn't decide how we preferred it. Plain, BBQ or horseradish. The brisket was so full of flavor we couldn't get over it. Super delicious. We tried the okra and baked beans too. The okra was great and the baked beans rivaled Bush's. Not too sweet but the perfect amount of flavor to kick plain ol' beans up a notch. However they are known for their 12 hour smoked ribs which we will surely try next time - oh! And they have a Fire Breather Burger that looked equally as appealing - so many good, down home choices. They have Karaoke on Fridays and other entertainment from time to time, so check their website and there is outdoor seating available in good weather. Come one, come all and enjoy! On a long road-trip on which we took the effort and time to try a couple of independent restaurants for lunch, Millstone provided a nice change of scenery (from interstate-exit chain fare) but not especially exciting food. If you're headed west on I-40 like we were, to get to the restaurant you have to cross Douglas Lake, take the exit as soon as you reach the lake's west side, and then double back across the lake on U.S. 70. Millstone sits on a ridge on the highway just a few hundred yards beyond the lake's eastern shore, above a marina and campground. It's a tidy-looking and charming white roadhouse with a cool old "Yahoo! Mountain Dew!" sign by the front door. The interior is more spacious than you'd think it'd be from the outside; it was clean as a whistle and very brightly lit. There was a patty-melt special, but it wasn't very "special." The burger was overcooked, served on plain wheat bread (not rye) that was not itself griddled but barely toasted. Millstone, that's not a "patty melt," but cheeseburger on toast. A side of stewed red potatoes looked tasty but didn't have much flavor. In fairness, the wife said her hot dog was very good (although the fries that came with it were of the apparently-frozen crinkle-cut variety and pretty greasy). Our server was pleasant enough, but she never circled back around to offer iced-tea refills. Prices were quite reasonable. read more

I was really looking forward to the "country store" part of the experience, but sadly it is no longer there. A fire destroyed it and in the rebuild, the store was not included. I'll echo another yelper's post: it was a nice change from commercial roadside eateries while on a road trip. I'll always prefer a mom and pop shop! Service was super attentive, but there were only two other tables while we were there. I have to say the French onion soup was pretty tasty, even without the crouton and cheese (I can't have either). The bisque was probably Sysco, as I heard the microwave before it came to the table. We ordered the BBQ to share a snack between two people. It was not entirely fall off the bone, which was surprising for all the "famous bbq" marketing. :) Nothing particularly special, the service made it better & I probably would have left another star if the store was there. read more
