I've always been curious to try out some Colombian baked goods as I have some people I know who are Colombian. The first thing I got was their pan de bono de guava and their potato and chicken empanada. The pan de bono was just about average, I don't think it was the best. The arepas (including the sweet corn one / chocolo) had a perfect texture and taste. The roscon was on the small side in terms that it was personal sized, but had a good taste. It was only filled with guava and no cheese. We also ordered a guava and a mango juice. Both tasted great as they were made with real fruit. We picked up a bunch of other goodies to try at home and all look promising. There is a great assortment of desserts, snacks, Juan Valdez coffee and treats. So glad that our family friend introduced this place to us. Every time we are in San Jose, I try to drop by and grab a few empanadas to snack on and a little extra to take home. This place is always busy with a line. But they're very efficient and get the line moving. I've never had to wait for too long. My kids love the beef and potato empanadas. Been here a couple of times now. I got a box full of a variety of empanadas. They warm up beautifully in the air fryer and make a great meal. The dough is flaky, buttery goodness. I really love the turkey and cranberry right now. The sweet pineapple empanada is PACKED with pineapple. The arroz con leche is creamy and not too sweet. The only thing I would prefer is to add more ham to the empanadas that have it. I got both the ham and cheese and Hawaiian. There was a couple small pieces of ham in each. This is such a wonderful and exciting place to visit. I have been thinking about empanadas so we made a plan to visit and try as much as possible. We had three warm buttery crispy empanadas, two desserts and two drinks. My favorite so far is the beef and onion empanada. It is served with a refreshing sauce that is almost like a chimichurri. I loved it and probably could have used a cup of it. The beef was fresh and tasty. A perfect foil for the crisp pastry and herb sauce. So darn good! My fiancé and I tried this place for the first time today and I went back in for seconds. He had the beef empanada (delicious, beef garlic and onion) and the guava sweet bread (the bread was great, but there wasn't enough guava!). I had the sausage finger (basically a cheese hot dog in bread, pretty good but not my fave) and the guava finger, which was SO amazing I got a second and ate it right away. We had iced coffees (their espresso machine was down) and ate in front. The women working were very nice, they heat the empanadas up quickly, and the juices they sell sounds fresh and tasty. There are plenty of other items that you can order from their menu as well for a nice breakfast or lunch experience. The service was great, I was going to visit some Colombian friends in Sacramento and they gave a great recommendation for a selection of goodies to bring. Really a treat for my colombian friends as they do not have many such places out that way. I saw a recent SF Eater list which listed the best bakeries in the South Bay. Of the bakeries listed, there were only 3 I haven't tried. Milohas was one of them. I was fascinated with trying Colombian pastries, which I've never had. The bakery is located in a part of San Jose I wasn't familiar with so it took me a while to find it. It's a small little shop situated in a large strip mall. Once you entered the strip mall, it was easy to locate. I came in on a Saturday afternoon of a holiday weekend. There was a line and because the shop is small, it was snaking out the door of the bakery. The staff was very efficient and the line moved quickly. I had time to check out the menu and wanted to try as many things as I could. I ended up getting baked large empanadas (beef & chicken), small empanadas (potato), cheese arepas, pandebono (corn flour cheese bread), bunuelos (corn flour cheese fritters), guava fingers and milhoja (puff pastry filled with custard & topped with caramel). After boxing all my items, the staff gave me instructions on how to re-heat the items both in an oven and in an air fryer. I was a little taken aback with the final cost ($60), but I really wanted to try it. When I got home, we eagerly heated all our goodies in the oven following the instructions I was given. When we got everything out, we eagerly tucked in. We started with the pandebono and the bunuelos. Both were very salty and the cheese in the bunuelos just made it saltier. Next we tried the arepas which were also salty. I couldn't really distinguish any major difference in taste profiles between the pandebono, bunuelos and the arepas. Next we tried the guava fingers. The guava filling was the perfect tart compliment to the tender, flaky crust. We heated up the chicken and potato empanadas. I really liked the potato empanada. It reminded me of samosas because of the seasoned potato filling. The crust was heartier than a samosa, but it worked well with the hearty filling. Next we had the chicken empanada which was dry. The chicken was cut into small chunks that shredded easily but it only made it dryer. I was thinking maybe we might have overcooked it, but none of the other items were dry and this was the largest pastry so far. By this time, we were stuffed and decided to leave the beef empanada and milhoja for another time. The next day we tried the milhoja. It's a puff pastry filled with custard and topped with caramel. Maybe if we had it fresh, it would have been better, but the pastry absorbed the custard and the caramel overpowered the soggy pastry. It was really hard to cut into it so we just gave up and ate in in layers. This was my first time trying Colombian pastries so I have nothing to compare them too. However, all in all, I was pretty disappointed with how everything was really salty and mostly all tasted the same. Whenever I stray from my usual path, I always look for a local business to try. Luckily I came across Milohas when scanning Yelp for some lunch spots. The store front is super cute and there are a ton of empanadas and other pastries to choose from. I got 3 empanadas (beef, beef potato, and chicken), guava fingers, and almojabana (corn flour cheese bread). The girl helping me went above and beyond writing on the box the order of the items as they were placed in a box (handy when your hubby specifically asks for the beef and there is no visual distinction) along with heating instructions. When I got home I went for the guava finger while the oven was heating up. The dough was a bit denser than I had expect but it worked well with the rich guava jam paste. You can tell they use fresh fruit due to the chunks within the jelly. The beef potato empanada was filled with meat and bite size potatoes. They didn't skip of the stuffing and the meat to potato ratio was well balanced and perfectly seasoned. The chicken empanada had shredded chicken va ground/minced. They use white meat and it wasn't try at all, even after baking. I didn't get to try the beef empanada, but my hubby said it was a legit version of what he had in Columbia. I also appreciate the dough that was used. The crust ended up nice a flakey post-baking. Loved it! The corn flour cheese bread was a surprise. For some reason I expected for it to taste more like Brazilian cheese break, but it ended up tasting like the sweet corn cakes you get in Mexican restaurant. It was delicious. The place does get quite busy. When I came in there were two other customers; by the time I left there were about 10. I'll be back for more for sure soon. read more

It's very clear what the problem is. The order takers don't take the orders up front. Instead they take two items, then ask what's next then take another two items then ask what's next then ask if you want it warmed then ask if you want one sauce. Then maybe they want some dessert. Instead, they could simply ask for all the items up front and then fulfill it. The lines used to be horrible, especially when they got famous on tv. Now it's just bad.
