    Tapas de chicharrón
    Carmen L.

    My husband and I were excited to try this place out after this place opened. We are not familiar with Colombian food but willing to try new cuisines. Upon arrival, we were greeted and asked if either of us spoke Spanish. Since we didn't, there was one waiter who spoke English and walked us through the menu. Their menu is in Colombian but there were pictures as well. My husband and I did ok with understanding the menu, some words seemed familiar. The food was delicious! WHAT WE ORDERED Tapas de chicharrón - crispy pork on top of a layer of guacamole on top of a crispy shell (not sure what this shell was made out of it but it had a similar texture to a rice cake). Chicharronada - more juicy crispy pork and seasoned roasted potatoes. This was sooooooooo freaking good. It was also served with a spicy green sauce. Both plates were more than enough for my husband and it. We noticed a lot of regulars eating so we knew we were getting some good Colombian food. Looking forward to coming back!

    Ambiance and service great! Parking is limited (because it's Willow Glen. Located below a 2-Story building, you can easily drive past this location and not even realize it's location.

    Based on the food alone... 5 stars! We happened to be next door test riding bicycles at Mike's Bikes when La Callejera caught our eye. Just a constant steady flow of traffic in and out. We tried to see what they were all about on Yelp, but there weren't enough reviews or pictures yet. Walked in to see if there was a menu, but there just seemed to be confusion, in terms of a few people waiting off to the side waiting for their food, and worked behind the register busy fulfilling those orders. We walked up towards the busy cashier, when we were greeted by another server who asked if it was our first time. He proceeded to tell us they specialized in Colombian cuisine, and then about their different Saturday and Sunday morning specialities. Honestly, although he was great at explaining, it would have been nice to see a menu. We decided on the moñona, which was a combo of their tamal, and lechon, and added a hot chocolate on top of it. Despite not having seen any photos of the food... no regrets! Everything on the plate was delicious, steeped in pork fatty goodness. Honestly, this puts the chinese tamales (zhong zi) to shame in terms of juiciness and flavor. The rice was mixed with tender pork, peas, carrots, potatoes, and something that reminded me of a chickpea, and the masa part was just so juicy and flavorful... if only all tamales could taste like this! The lechon portion was a bit on the small side, and mostly fat versus any meat, but the skin was super crispy. The hot cocoa was also fresh made with either cream or half and half, and while it smelled like too much cinnamon, the taste was actually pretty mild. All together, a filling meal for two, and very, very comforting. We ended up paying in cash (no tax), but they were also willing to accept credit card too. And while the walls were freshly decorated, don't expect much with the seating - basic plastic folding tables and chairs.

    Taste of Colombia in Every Bite! I can't explain how happy I was to find this place--the lechona is absolutely incredible! The crispy skin, the perfectly seasoned rice, and the little arepa with lime took me straight back to a celebration in Colombia. You can truly taste the love and tradition in every bite. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, full of Colombian vibes and joy. If you're Colombian, this will feel like home. And if you're not, get ready to fall in love with lechona! I'll definitely be back.

    La Callejera was such a fun place! Let's break it down. Food: this is 100% why people come. Authentic Colombian food and the entire menu is in Spanish. On the weekends they serve a dish called the lechona which is almost like a pot pie except instead of puff pastry is it a giant pork skin! It was delicious and you can bet I'm gonna try to cook that again at home. Service: the servers here ok, there was a slight language barrier but nbd. They definitely know all the dishes very well so if you speak Spanish they can tell you a lot about each dish. Ambiance: this place is very casual with Costco picnic tables and paper plates. They are open super late so it's a fantastic place to party late at night. Trust me you can find them by the music! I'm def looking to expand my knowledge of real Colombian food and this looks like a great place to learn. I'll be back!

    Second week open and very popular. Columbian street vibe. Three menus item so far...tamale like plate, fried rice plate and soup. Tried first two and both were great. Staff was great especially Angelo. Looking forward to trying it again. Cash or Zelle at the moment.

    Customer service was really kind and bubbly! La Callejera is located in Willow glen downtown area, right across the bank and restaurant Braise. I ordered takeout but the spot is small and cute, it replaced another latino restaurant that was here. Unfortunately they don't have fresh/homemade hot sauce like other colombian restaurants have. I really enjoyed my meal, however, it's actually an appetizer. Everything was well cooked and the chicharrón was fried to perfection *chefs kiss* and i love that they're generous with their limes and servings!!! I'll definitely be coming back to try their popular tamales that stop selling @ 2PM i believe and they're only available Sat&Sun. Ven a probar la comida con el sabor más criollo!! Q RICOOOO ! no van a decepcionar (-;

Milohas (mil hojas) means a thousand layers in Spanish, and one taste of Milohas' pastries will make you understand why they picked that moniker. The Good: * Large shared parking lot * Friendly service * Covered outdoor dining * The crust of the empanadas was buttery, flaky, and delicious. All the fillings were good, but you have to try the Hawaiian filling! It was truly fantastic and had us wishing that's all we'd ordered. * Guava Finger has the same perfect crust and tasty guava jam--I could eat a dozen of these and come back for more. *oink oink* * Carissa really enjoyed their lentil soup. I didn't try it, so I can't comment. The Meh: * I kind of prefer the chunks of meat in Peruvian empanadas to the ground meat in Colombian ones, but that's just a personal preference. It was still delicious, so at the end of the day, it's all academic. The Ugly: * No indoor dining, and outdoor dining is limited to only a handful of seats. Conclusion: We've been on the hunt for the best empanadas in the South Bay, and we finally found them.
