This appears to be more a Mexican bakery than a taqueria, but it does have a taqueria counter, and a big sign on the front window advertising that it has tamales. Many taquerias don't, and I like tamales, so I hoped they'd be good and tried their tamale plate. Well, it wasn't really bad, but it wasn't very good either. The tamales were moist, and with a moderate sufficiency of meat, but the masa was dull and crumbly, and the whole not too appetizing. Staff is very kind. They explained the different types of plates that they have and helped me pick out a plate that I would enjoy. Everything is very clean. First off, the guacamole was delicious. I love how fresh it tastes and how the onions and tomatoes are diced. The chicharron I ended up tossing because it tasted like it was either refried, or fried in old oil. We grabbed some pastries as well, which look good. On Wednesday 11/20/24 around 4pm my friend Melissa, her mother and father arrived to purchase Mexican Bread, 8 tacos, & watered down Horchata. When my friends mother brought asked to have it exchanged for another drink the worker refused to do so. It turned into a big scene where a male employee stepped in to ask what the issue was. The drink was exchanged for Agua Fresca. This is completely unacceptable behavior. I phoned for a manager and got no where with that. We'll be phoning again because no ones family should be treated in this manner ever. For some reason the staff answering the phone is saying that the manager/owner are unavailable and have no set schedule. The point of this is that it was by my recommendation that my friend and her family visited this location. My friends mother was taken there for a treat after months of wrestling with financial issues. This treatment is unacceptable. read more

I haven't had a burrito this good in awhile. I was looking for lunch while dropping my mom off on errands and found this place online. It has good reviews so I wanted to check it out. I'm glad I did because the food is so good! I got an al pastor super burrito and they loaded it up. The meat and fillings were well seasoned and they're very generous with the guacamole in it. Highly recommend! The store is cute and has a lot of offering available. The staff seemed friendly. There's pan dulce, the usual taqueria things, and even chicharrón they make in house. This afternoon I went to buy some gelatin, and to my surprise, it's starting to get moldy. I hadn't noticed this before, since I only buy some occasionally, but this really caught my attention. How can I tell if I haven't already eaten moldy ones? You have to pay very close attention to what you buy because they don't even put expiration dates on them. Super close to home so very convenient. In the same small plaza, there is also another taqueria few doors down; La Superior Taqueria is at the end to the right. I came on a Sunday and it was busy, there were people dining in and a small like of those ordering take out. I ordered a carne asada super burrito to-go. When I got home, I realized they also included some grilled onions, a pepper, slice of lime, and hot sauce - the grilled onions were really nice to eat with the burrito. Only con about this was the burrito wasn't wrapped tight enough so when I cut it in half, the carne asada meat started spilling out. Overall, the burrito was yummy and service was quick - I was in and out within 10 minutes. Definitely will be coming back when I'm craving some authentic Mexican food. read more

I was in the area and needed to pick up some food quickly and found this spot on Yelp and I am glad I did. This spot is legit. It was bustling with a lot of customers and a lot of employees as well. This is a panaderia and a restaurant. Everything looked yummy and it is clear that this is not a regular run-of-the-mill taqueria. I have been coming here for a few years now, I didn't mind the 40 minute drive from San Mateo. The food was worth the drive. My last couple of times here have not been the best, the customer service is horrible. I walked in today to four ladies talking behind the counter, they watched me with my pan dulce tray for a few minutes before one of them decided to ask if I needed help. I specially asked if the sugary pieces could go in a separate bag, but she was too busy talking to her co-workers that she didn't pay attention to what I was asking. The prices have also gone up by a lot. I had about 6 pieces and $12 something worth of chicharrón for $39. The chicharrones are also super high priced now, two pieces for almost $13. Today was the last time I made the drive, the pan was worth the drive before but with these prices and the horrible service is not worth my time or money read more

I've been coming here for the last 4 days, everyday trying something different. Food is amazing and just by coincidence did I spot this place as I was driving after working, 1st stop I had a carnitas burrito and 10/10 2nd day I had Chile verde plate 10/10 3rd day I had the chicharrón plate 20/10 haven't had anything like this before. Today I'm going with the Chile relleno plate and had to add an extra Chile since I'm super hungry. I made a profile just to review this restaurant. I am an avid lover of all things burrito, and sadly, there aren't a lot of taquerias that serve excellent burritos (surprising for a city like San Jose!). I've tried almost every taqueria/Mexican restaurant on DoorDash and UberEats......I've gone from the East Side to the West Side, North and South San Jose...... My original "go-to" burrito joint is on Bascom.....but I decided to give this place a try since I never had it and it was only 5 minutes away from my "go-to". La Superior Taqueria is tucked in a strip mall on Leigh avenue and you would miss it unless you knew where you were going. Upon entering, I was greeted with the smell of fresh bakery, grilled meats, and welcoming staff. Pretty weird for an Asian guy to go to a taqueria, but they didn't judge. Plus it's San Jose! I ordered a super burrito with Carne Asada and Al Pastor along with a large Horchata togo. I watched the line cook prepare everything from scratch A-Z and that's rare nowadays for a taqueria to showcase what they're doing behind the counter. Got my food and sped home to try it and I was blown away! The rice meats were succulent and juicy, and all of the fixings melded so well (sour cream, cheese, guacamole). This is now my new go to burrito spot in San Jose! read more

Small taqueria, not much seating, basic variety of food and a good variety of pastries and cakes. They also have a refrigerated section with a variety of desserts, drinks, fruit and other items. My husband's go to items are the tacos, side of rice and a cookie with sprinkles. I too enjoy the tacos but also like the chili rellano (this is served in a little bit of broth, so if you are use to receiving a dry rellano this will be a little different but it is so delicious), burrito and pastries, at times I will get a tamale. Also, love the agua frescas, I never go without getting one. Only once have they forgotten to give us an item we ordered unlike another taqueria that we use to go to that frequently forgot items. This place has become our go to place to grab a quick bite but be prepared because they do get quite busy. Some of the employees only speak Spanish so sometimes it's hard to ask questions but we have always received friendly service. I do wish that they had pozole and caldo de res though. read more

Went in with a concern about my food being prepared incorrectly for the 4th time. I have caught the mistakes before but rather than acknowledging they made a mistake, they told me I had to make sure I ordered correctly. Well this last time I didn't catch the mistake and went in to get it rectified, was instead told that because they weren't involved with the transaction they could only replace one of the 2 tacos they had given me with red hot sauce rather than my preferred and edible non spicy green sauce. Last time I will be visiting a restaurant I have been going to for years that's across the street from me. Don't recommend you shop here unless you want to be gas lit when they make a mistake and then choose not to fix it. My favorite burrito and pan Dulce spot, hands down. My husband and I love coming here on the weekend for burritos and cuernos. I recently just discovered how good they are at cakes too. Ordered a cake for my son's third birthday party. My Spanish isn't the best, so ordering was a little tricky, but they did such a good job making him a cake that looked like the picture I showed them. We were craving Mexican food and found this spot, less than a mile from us. Since it was so close we thought we'd give it a try and it turned out to be some of the best Mexican food we've had in the bay. I was surprised when I walked in to find that they had not only the taqueria staples, but also a wide selection of pastries, cakes, desserts, chips, and chicharrones on display. It caused us to over-order out of excitement a little bit, but we were not disappointed. All of the food was excellent and we will definitely coming back to try more of the menu. If you're planning to eat here, there are some tables available against the window, but you're probably more comfortable taking your food home. Got a chorizo breakfast burrito from there. It entirely fell apart from the bottom within the first few bites. This is a problem I've never experienced from any other breakfast burrito in SJ. Now I see why they provide plates for them. Flavors are good, but there's really no reason for the burrito to be falling apart like this. Way too much grease in the chorizo eggs, not enough eggs, beans or rice to absorb the liquid and it completely fell apart on the bottom from the tortilla being soaked in greasy liquid. On top of that, there's an extra charge for any salsa sides. I'll continue to take my business to Tacos Al Pastor for further breakfast burrito needs. read more

I ordered a chile verde plate. Flavor was lacking and meat was dry. When I was handed my order I had to ask for salsa. Salsa wasn't included with the order, so I am glad I caught that before leaving. I was given a premade plastic packet instead of the fresh salsa in the small to-go cups I could see on the counter. I even had to ask for one more since I didn't think one packet would be enough. If I could give this place zero star I would. I ordered 2 carne asada wet burritos with red sauce. My son went to pick them up and we noticed that they gave us green sauce because they wet out of red sauce. First of all I hate green sauce because usually it's cooked with pork and I don't like pork. My son had to leave for work so he didn't have time to return the burritos. The green sauce smelled awful. It smelled like the pork that they used was not fresh. I scrapped off the green sauce from the burrito but I could not eat it because it stunk. It's pretty hard to choose between taquerias when you have eduardos AND tequila's nearby, but this place scratches that taco itch when you're also not looking for a full blown mariachi experience blasting next to you. This review is ONLY for the tacos because I haven't had any of their breads yet. Tacos: they're great! I don't believe the tortillas are hand-made but the meats are quite good, providing you know what to order. Their al pastor is EXCELLENT, followed by their carne asada, cabeza, and carnitas (though I think Tequila's next door is significantly better). You have the option of a regular taco and a super taco, which comes with beans, but honestly I think the beans kind of mute the flavor of the tacos and you're much better off just getting a normal taco here. The only misses here are the fact that their meats are just not all equal - their chile verde is pretty flavorless (somehow) and their chicken can tend to be dry. I don't think this is a huge problem if you know what to order but buyer beware on your first go. Their horchata is also not super great (probably powdered?), so I would steer clear of that as well. Overall it's a solid taco place, provided you know what to order/have your favorites. Every plate of 2 tacos or more also comes with a giant, extremely spicy jalapeno (no joke, it's way spicier than conventional jalapenos), and some lightly sauteed onions so that's nice as well.
