Called Milstead for an oil change for my RV. Since we are full time RVers and live in our RV it was important that we be able to wait while they did work. They ended up doing the job in less time than they quoted (1 hour) and less $$$ than they quoted, which was $50 less than Demontrond RV quoted us (and they quoted us 4-6 hrs to do an oil change). I recently took an rv into have it looked at. It had an oil leak and I thought the battery was the wrong size. They gave me a quote of $2700. Almost $300 of that was a diagnostic check on the battery that I had asked them to visually check. The rest of the money was for dropping the transmission and servicing it. The told me all the oil pouring out was transmission fluid and insisted they look at it. I then told them that I wasn't dumb and knew the difference between oil and transmission fluid. Upon further review they told me I had a cracked oil pan but still needed to check the transmission. I declined all repairs and picked it up. I just had everything repaired for less than $300 at a different shop. Turns out all I needed was the tube the oil dipstick slides into and a new battery. If you're looking for repairs do your wallet a favor and find somewhere else. read more

I have been going to Milstead for the past five years. They have worked on both my Chevy truck and my mini Cooper. I have always been very satisfied with their work and their customer service is excellent. The last time I took my truck and I thought I had a major problem with the power steering. The truck acted funny every time I tried to turn the wheel. They took a look at it and come to find out someone had accidentally pushed the four-wheel-drive button. They spotted it quickly and I was so relieved it wasn't a major repair involved. I trust them. read more

Very dishonest or just simply do not know their business, probably both. I took my car in becasue I felt the steering was loose and it had bad uneven tire wear. I told them that I thought the front end was worn out. Sure enough, guess what? They agreed the front end was totally worn out and was very dangerous to drive and needed repair immediately. They said it needed upper and lower ball joints, strut rod bushings, upper control arm, idle arm, and alignment, all for $1700.00. To get a second opinion I took the car to a reputable shop and asked for their diagnosis, telling then the same thing. They said the ball joints, etc. were in great condition, but it needed front wheel bearings, a front caliper, and a few brake lines, plus alignment for atotoal of $650.00. I asked them to double check to see if any of these things Milstead pointed out could possible be wrong since the steering did seem a litttle loose. No, they said it is OK. And the car is back driving fine now. So you figure it out...did Milstead just feel that I would "go for" all that expense becasue I already thought that was the problem? Were they completly dishonest, and also incompetant because the did not even inspect the wheel bearings or brakes? Yes, I believe they are not honest and you should steer clear...except maybe oil changes and state inspections if you dare. read more

Took my bmw to fix two bent rims and replaced two tires. New paint on rims does not match other rims. Worst of all is they took my car through the machine car wash. My car is now completely covered in swirl marks and scratches. Never again. Stick with reputable service providers. read more

Had my 16 year old son bring his car over to Milstead to get it inspected. It failed because the power steering hose was wet. I took it to my mechanic and he would not even change the hose, he said there is no way that this car should have failed an inspection. He said the shop was probably slow that day and wanted to make a little extra $$$. I looked up inspection guidelines online and there is nothing stated about a moist hose should fail inspection. I learned my lesson and am writing this review so you don't have to learn the hard way!!! Be cautious about this place. read more

I'm watching Everybody Loves Raymond on the KUBE and their advertising flyer flashes and flashes during the opening scenes.....Really! They can't make a regular commercial, so they just flash and interrupt and block the screen to get attention!?! Are they gonna randomly computer call me next? We were here from California visiting family and my son recommended Milstead Automotive when my motorhome encountered an issue with not starting. It was a pretty stressful time not really knowing what was wrong with my motorhome due to the complexity of a motorhome. That all went away when Mark Orsack in parts helped me. I knew my batteries were 8 years old so I was prepared to purchase new ones. Mark went out of his way and offered to charge the two batteries I had which were Lifeline batteries which are a specialty battery made for motorhomes and their quite expensive. Mark kept them overnight to trickle charge them and the next day explained that they were ready to be replaced based on the computer read out that he showed me. I ended purchasing two Interstate batteries and the issue was resolved. Thank You Milstead Automotive for hiring such a good guy like Mark who made me feel at ease in a time of crisis. My daughter's car broke its timing belt in Conroe. A wrecker from Milstead stopped to help, and since we aren't from there, I asked them to take the car to their shop in Conroe. Their estimate was to replace the timing belt, tensioner, and water pump. The bulk of the labor to get to the timing belt is the same as getting to the water pump, so shops recommend replacing the water pump when doing the timing belt to save on labor. After checking labor estimators, it's clear that the nearly $450 in labor is just the two added together. Further diagnostics determined more engine damage, so I drove down there from Arlington to bring the car back to have car repaired under a dealer used-car warranty. I paid $850+ to Milstead for installing a new timing belt, tensioner, and water pump. What I've learned since then is that this engine is called an "interference" motor, meaning that when the timing belt breaks, the valves interfere with the pistons and damage occurs. So, it would be extremely rare that there wouldn't be damage to the engine, and the timing belt repair would be done after removing the head to inspect for damage. The best part came today. The dealer has determined that the engine can be repaired without replacing the engine (Milstead recommended replacing the engine - $1995 for a used motor + labor on top of the work done already) AND, when they pulled the head (which requires accessing the timing belt) they discovered the timing belt had been installed backwards. There are arrows indicating which direction the belt runs, and the belt was on backwards, arrows pointing in the opposite direction. The service manager says the belt would have lasted about 20,000 miles (instead of 60,000), I don't live in Milstead's service area, but I'd sure think twice before using them again. read more

I love how they portray themselves as great contributors to the community. The facts are the opposite though. I asked for a tow truck, they told me it would take 1 hours, and it took 2 hours. I kept on calling them, and instead of being honest about it and tell me they could not make it in 1 hours, the dispatcher wanted to keep me on the hook and lied to me. Even the sheriff stopped and told me I didnt have to wait, there were plenty of wreckers available. Anyway I asked later for a discount, I even called the owner, Dick Milstead, and he just told me he could not give me any discount despite the bad service. He couldnt or his greediness would not allow him? I am sure he is on Sunday at the front row of church! read more

I brought my truck in for state inspection and I was having the a/c checked as it had stopped working. I got a call on the same Friday that I brought the truck in saying that the truck had passed inspection. The a/c was going to be checked next. I didn't get a call from that point on. I thought I should probably call the next day as I knew Milstead closed early on Saturday. I called at 2pm only to find out that the shop was already closed. This absolutely INFURIATED me! If there wasn't enough time to check the a/c, that would have been fine. But AT LEAST let me know so that I could pick up my truck so that I wouldn't be without a vehicle for the ENTIRE weekend. The dispatch person I spoke to was of no help whatsoever. I had to come by first thing on Tuesday morning to pick up my truck. I ended up being about an hour and a half late to work. And when I expressed the trouble to the people on duty, I simply got an "I'm sorry about that", and nothing more. This made it seem that this type of inconvenience to a customer is either commonly accepted or that it's of no real concern to the employees. Needless to say, I will NEVER bring my current vehicle nor any future vehicle I own back into Milstead for service. I've never had any major problems with service before, but this over site is too major to ignore. read more

Hello, I brought my car in for a tune up. They said they would run all of the tests and have a mechanic look at it. Milstead did just that. They explained what needed to be done and asked me what I wanted done from their list. The office staff was helpful and courteous . I chose what I wanted done and they said ok , no pressure. My car runs great so far. Mpg increased and I have more get up and go. The shuttle service that was provided took me home and picked me back up when the car was ready. Milstead Automotive is slightly more expensive but they seem to be honest . I will return to them for auto repairs. read more

I took my car to milstead after having this place recomended to me by a freind I soon found out how horrible and stressfull company this is I was told I could bring my 2 dogs and that I could walk them around while my vehichle was being serviced when I came there I was then told that my dogs would be violently attacked by there 2 german sheaperd guard dogs so I took my gogs home came back and let there mechanics finish the job while waiting I steped outside to have a ciggerette where 4 milstead employees where making racial remarks about black and mexican people I was so offended and disgusted I tried to speak to the owner dick milstead where I was told that he didnt have time for false accusations the repairs were very expensive I found out I would have saved 400 dollars if I had gone to drivers auto repair and there were greasy hand prints all over the hood and windows of my car......worst day of my life read more

We took our RV in for an oil change and inspection. We had mistakenly made an appointment at the Conroe location but Glenn, our service advisor, accommodated us immediately. We also added service on the RV generator. Glenn called me after researching the manufacturer's maintenance requirements on the generator and we agreed on the work. Even with the additional work, everything was done by 3:00 PM, the time he originally estimated. Everyone at Milstead was extremely friendly. read more

Let me start by saying that I was a customer about 10 years ago. My Infiniti was making a noise so took to Milstead, they informed that it was my alternator which cost about $800. That sounded high but they explained that the position of the alternator required some extra labor fine no problem. I pick my car up and I drive off and hear the noise so immediately turned around. When I got back to Milstead the sales rep told me that they put in a new alternator. I told that I still hear the noise, his reply was I sorry we fixed the alternator, I told you were supposed to fix the noise after a few minutes of going back and forth I left and told them I'd never use their service again. I took my car to Rusty 's Automotive they checked it out, finally explaining that my alternator belt was causing the noise. They repaired it, no noise and get this $179 dollars. So Milstead ripped me off! Never take your car to that place! read more

I've had the misfortune of dealing with this company without even being a customer for years, as I live near their lot. Their drivers are disturbingly reckless, and I've found myself calling their "How's my driving?" line on three separate occasions just to report them nearly running someone off the road. Now I've had the egregious experience of dealing with them as a customer, and I am shocked and dismayed (though I suppose I shouldn't be surprised) by the poor service I've received. Their representatives are disturbingly, almost comically rude, with insult after insult and orders to shut up and let them talk. If you find yourself forced to deal with this horrendously unprofessional company, I wish you all the luck in the world. If you can avoid using Milstead, I strongly urge you to use any other company in the area. You'd get better customer service from an orangutan with a toy Tonka truck and a screwdriver than you will with these people. read more

I took my truck there to look at the codes and get an estimate on repairs, next thing I know I am being told my truck can't be driven and I need to have $585 in work done just for it to be drive-able! And this mystery work that costs so much? Replacing my plug wires and coil pack! Are you kidding me??!! They tell me that I should really get rid of the truck after this and in the next breathe tell me they are putting "quality parts" on my truck. Seriously? If you recommend junking it why would I want "quality parts" on it? I ended up having them do that so I could get my truck back and to top it off their in house car rental charged me $45 for a single day on a car that should have only been $30.99 according to the website. My air compressor, which runs the air brakes and air suspension, failed on our 43 foot Tourmaster motor coach when we were 60 miles outside of Houston in the middle of nowhere at 4 pm in the afternoon. When your air pressure drops below 40 lbs, your brakes lock up and you cannot move your vehicle, period. I just made it 6 inches off of the road when the brakes locked up. We tried to get AAA rv towing, Progressive rv towing, our extended warranty towing, the Sealy police, but not one of these could find a towing service that could tow our rig, let alone tow it to a place that could fix it. I started searching the internet and making phone calls. Finally somebody referred me to Milstead. I called them at 8pm and the lady on the phone was very helpful. She calmed me down (I was a wreck being in the middle of nowhere and having trucks passing us and shaking us being only 6 inches on the shoulder in the pitch black) She assured me that they could recover the rv and that they repaired all truck chassis and performed all types of diesel rv repairs. She informed me that she would get a truck out asap. She also could hear the semis roaring past us on the highway at 70 miles an hour and called the Sealy police and requested a cruiser for traffic control. I could hear the conversation in the background. The wrecker was dispatched within 15 minutes and finally arrived at 10 pm. Since the suspension was dropped and the brakes locked up the driver had to get air into the system so he could lift the vehicle and release the brakes. This was not an easy feat since the police never showed up, even after I made repeated calls to the Sealy police following the call from Milstead. Carl, the driver, was finally able to get the rv on the wrecker because the wreckers were equipped with an air compressor and the fittings to adapt to our air accumulators. After he pulled the driveshaft we were on our 2 hour drive back to their shop. We finally arrived after 2am and got offloaded. To my surprise they had 30 amp hookup and water. We got all hooked up at finally hit the sack at 3am. When they opened in the morning a technician knocked on the door and I went to the service counter and gave them my extended warranty information. By the way, this place is huge, over 30 bays, and equipped to handle cars, trucks, and the largest of rv's The tech worked on the motor coach that morning and the service writer handled all the paperwork with the the extended warranty company and located the parts that i needed from freightliner and cummings. The repairs took a couple of days. While we were stuck there, the staff had drivers shuttle us to restaurants and offered the use of a car if necessary. I had several conversations with the owner who made sure we were comfortable and being taken care of. This company took customer service to the next level and my wife and I cannot express our gratitude for the manner in which we were treated from the beginning to the end. The moral of the story, if you break down within a couple of hours of Houston Texas, call this company!!!! I hope their dedicated scores of employees get a chance to read this. So I take my Ford truck in to Milstead for an oil change and state inspection. I later get a call from the shop telling me it didn't pass because the emergency brake isn't working! Total cost for the emergency brake repair was estimated at $800 plus tax! That's after paying $45 for the emergency brake diagnosis and $25.50 for the failed state inspection! Took it over to Ripleys Total Car Care and asked for an estimate to fix the emergency brake and do a state inspection. They did a minor adjustment to get the emergency brake working (for free) and the truck passed state inspection. Total cost $25.50!! I took the truck back over to Milstead and confronted them about their estimate and what appears to be questionable business practice. An offer of a free oil change and an apology after my experience really left me less than impressed with Milstead Automotive! This is the second time I have gotten an outrageous brake repair quote from Milstead and taken it to Ripley's instead. This is also the second time one of my vehicles has failed to pass a state inspection due to the emergency brake. Estimate on the other vehicle was over $700 and I wonder if I fell prey to the same situation! I'm sure the brake work would have been fine, but considering I NEVER use my parking break on ANY of my vehicles, would it have been worth it? read more

On 8-30-2013 I took my car to Milstead for a repair .two employies asked if I needed anything ? I replyed, yes service .I was told I had to wait for the manager that was on the phone .so I waited .when he asked what a needed I told him what part I needed replaced. From that point on he started to try to down talk me and acted like I didn't have the money. I'm Hispanic, Vietnam vet (1974-75),own my own BUSINESS and my wife is a medical pro.at Conroe Regional hospital. One thing that struck a nerve was he sed to me ,"oh! you've seen everything". I answered ,"NO not everything but I am a Vietnan Vet and I have seen a lot ". I have never been so disrespected . He made me feel like the day I came back to the states ,in uniform ,at the airport among all the protesters. The only thing that was missing was the manager calling me a baby killer. I wonder what war that manager fought in ? Milstead does good work but I think I would put someone at that desk that would try to bring in business in instead of running people off .
