The Schnitzel. Seasonal menu due to ultra fresh ingredients.

One of the best dining experiences I've ever had. The food was phenomenal. The service was phenomenal. Kyle, my waiter, literally one of the best services I've had, and I've traveled the world at some of the best restaurants. Great eatery experience and highly recommended.

It is hard to believe that you can find such an exceptional dining experience right in Lake County. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance, service, and food easily make you feel as though you're dining in the hottest restaurant in downtown Chicago.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Milwalky Trace has limited seating, so be sure to make a reservation. Service was a bit slow - I'm wondering if they were understaffed as our waiter mentioned that he jumped behind the bar to help make one of our drinks. We were a party of 4 and it was a 2 hour dining experience for appetizers and main course. The menu is creative and exciting. Unique and fresh offerings that were well executed. We started with the New Zealand Lamb and the Pork & Clams. Split 4 ways, we got one bite from each plate. The hanger steak entree was unbelievable with the smoked marrow bone. The Amish chicken was a massive plate of food - but I'm certainly grateful for leftovers! The shared sides are a nice way to try even more from the menu - however the house made fries were a lot of smaller pieces and difficult to eat. The drinks were wonderful. The house made infusions, syrups, and tinctures really take them over the top.

I was looking forward to coming back to Milwalky Trace for the smoky old fashioned. Unfortunately, to get the full effect you had to sit at the bar. We ordered dinner and I had the salmon which was prepared perfectly and tasted delicious. The winter kale salad was awesome and well dressed Our waiter was the best part of the experience as he was able to let us know everything about the menu and was patient as we made selections. Once we finished dinner we wanted to move to the bar for after dinner drinks. We were informed we could have beer and wine but no cocktails. Seems like a miss to me but their loss as we decided to leave.

The food is very good and Milwalky Trace offers shareable plates with seasonal dishes. We especially enjoyed the baby roasted carrots with feta, steak tartare, beet and citrus burrata and the New York strip. The butternut squash gnocchi was good but a little mushy and overly sweet. The prices are on the higher side, but the service and food quality make it worth an occasional visit. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance was cozy and inviting and the restaurant played old school 70's and 80's R&B which created an upbeat vibe.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] There is a small bar with an attentive bartender and our server was helpful friendly. Street parking and the Libertyville garage make it easy to get in and out. The restaurant is located in the heart of downtown Libertyville which has a vibrant restaurant and boutique vibe.

    Salted Icelandic cod

A few of us were out and checked to see if they had any last minute reservations. We were lucky because they accommodated us and made sure to keep us in the know before we got there. We love coming here because the drinks and food are always amazing! I had the salted Icelandic cod, my husband had the short rib gnocchi, and my friend had the salmon. We had the tuna tartare for an app and it's like crack. We also ordered the lobster Mac and cheese for a side. We thought it needed more salt but that's the only bad thing I have to say about this place. The inside is super cute, but very small. They have a full bar and love the drinks and wine options they have. Be sure to come on Wednesday so that you can try their speciality burgers!

Delicious food, great service and wonderful ambience on the patio! I had dinner here with a large group. We went all out, sharing various appetizers, followed by dinner and then sharing all of the desserts. The salmon entree was delicious, and my favorite dessert was the crème brûlée. Two thumbs up for Milwalky Trace!

I heard good things about this restaurant and the restaurant did not disappoint. The braised ribs were very good and same with the cauliflower casserole but on the smaller side. The ambience is very nice, and the bartender was very attentive. The pomegranate martini was very good. Just be prepared to spend quite a bit with smaller portions.

I was here probably last year. This time I tried the salmon. It was amazing. Brandon, our server, was amazing. He was always checking on us and when not available, someone was right there to assist. My favorite restaurant in Libertyville.

It's ok but for the price there are many, many better options. Limited menu. Can't go more than twice.

There's no word to describe the incredible service and experience we had here today :)…read more We were scheduled for the Bears Camp but it was canceled due to the weather. We wanted to grab breakfast since we drove an hour up to hit the camp and found this amazing gem! We weren't the only ones, many other folks who experienced the cancellation of the Bears Camp had the same idea! lol it was PACKED! I can't recall our hostess' name but she was a beautiful soul and so kind to us as we waited patiently for a seat. It was a 90 minute wait so we walked around a bit and killed time. When we got back, we still had a wait but a group of ladies said they just left the bar and we could walk up. We did and saw the hostess to ask if we could eat there and she said yes. Definitely worth the wait! We sat at the bar and Dani, our server was FANTASTIC! So kind, helpful and gave great advice on what to order since it was our first time. We ordered the biscuits OMG the best thing ever! We added the homemade jam and it was the chefs kiss! We had the hazelnut latte and French Madeline latte. Both were delicious! I got an omelette with sun-dried tomatoes, goat cheese and chicken sausage. It came with a choice of a bread item and I chose pancakes hubby got eggs sausage with French toast. The portions were HUGE! We were full off the biscuits lol but ate some of our meal and then packed it up to go and had it for dinner lol It's a cute farm inspired restaurant and very family friendly. We absolutely loved the staff. Dani, our waitress was a real Doll! Genuinely kind and so personal and attentive. Steve and Chris, the management team was absolutely above board and we so enjoyed chatting with them. They made us feel so welcomed! Thank you! We can't wait to return!

It did not. The restaurant has a lovely aesthetic with the clean black on white patterns throughout. The open floor carries the noise so don't expect much with that. Even though I was the first person seated for the day, service was not great. When I ordered my breakfast (ham and cheese omelette with honey biscuit and a buttermilk biscuit on the side, the honey biscuit came, but after waiting for about 10 minutes, I had to flag down the manager to get my buttermilk biscuit. No refill on my drink either. The omelette was fine. It was a folder omelette and the flavor was pretty good. The biscuits are such: the honey biscuit is a drop biscuit with a slight taste of a honey glaze on top. It was fairly dense as most drop biscuits are. The buttermilk biscuit was just a folded biscuit, but it looks like it was folded at most twice. Here is the thing with folded biscuits, if you over mix the dough, it doesn't expand. If you don't use frozen butter, it won't lighten and create the necessary steam. Then you have a dense brick of biscuits dough. If you don't make your own buttermilk, you'll end up without the slight tang buttermilk is known for. I don't think Buttermilk lives up to the name. For me, it was a disappointment. I had high hopes.

We tried three different wobbly chairs before giving up and settling for the least unstable one. It took 40 minutes just to get water, and over an hour for our drinks. Mine didn't arrive until the manager stepped in--75 minutes after ordering. When our appetizer finally showed up 90 minutes in, the "stuffed mushrooms" were cold, undercooked, and missing the sausage entirely. We sent them back because there was nothing edible about them. The soup tasted good, but it arrived more than an hour into the meal--and came with burnt pieces on top, which is especially ironic considering the fire alarm was going off at the time. The alarm was blaring directly above our heads, and two families walked out during the chaos. We should have followed. The salads we ordered never arrived. Multiple menu items we attempted to order weren't available, including the salmon for the salmon salad and the prime rib sandwich. At that point, the menu felt more like a list of things they used to serve. After two hours of waiting, missing dishes, unavailable items, and nonstop disruptions--on a birthday, no less--we finally walked out. And despite everything, we still tipped our waiter because it was painfully clear the chaos wasn't entirely his fault. We walked next door to Emil's, where the difference was night and day. We were seated immediately, treated kindly, served a full meal in under 45 minutes, and they even surprised my friend with a free birthday dessert to salvage the night. Emil's saved what Center Cut completely destroyed.
