It had a sweet flavor profile, sorta reminding me of bahn mi, but not as deep in layered ingredients . Unfortunately I think the aioli I asked to take out (wife doesn't like mayo and she wanted to share) was essential to counter the otherwise one-note sweetness that was overbearing after a while. The security guy, however, was extremely unprofessional and spent the night antagonizing guests in the general admission area. The website listed the show as sold out, yet they continued selling walk‑in tickets, which made the venue uncomfortably crowded and the security guy constantly interacting and annoying patrons. As we were leaving, the same security person caused additional issues with patrons outside. He even told a group--loudly--that he was dealing with "all the jerks inside giving him a hard time," and that this was why he carried a gun. When actually it was him antagonizing patrons. Not what I expected going to Daryl's house at all.

From the food to the service to the preparation, we were impressed every step of the way. We seriously could not recommend Smokin J's enough!! To start, the food was absolutely incredible. All of our guests could not stop raving about it! For appetizers, we had pulled pork sliders and jalapeño poppers (which were a personal favorite). They were not only delicious, but the perfect size to grab and eat as they were passed around. They were a perfect introduction of what was to come. For the main course, we had pulled pork, smoked chicken, ribs, potato salad, baked beans, and Mac and cheese. Every single dish I listed was cooked perfectly. I honestly don't think I've had bbq that good before (I will be thinking about it for a long time to come!). Day of, Joe came with two additional team members, Jerry and Elisa, to help cook and serve everything. They were equally as fantastic. As soon as the appetizers were ready, they started their rounds making sure everyone had a chance to have a bite as they arrived and mingled. There was one point where Joe noticed I hadn't eaten (I was busy running around like a nut saying hi to everyone), and called me over for a question. The "question" was really just an excuse to get me away, so I had a moment to breathe and have a bite to eat. I was moving a mile a minute, so this small gesture really meant a lot! Joe and his team really go above and beyond what you would expect from any caterer. They are not only extremely talented at what they do, but they are kind, personable, and wonderful people.
