So I have been here about 5 times now. And the first visit was very pleasant with a nice lady. After that, I am always assigned to this one guy who I'm starting to get annoyed with. He smokes between each client and does not wash his hands after smoking. He puts on a coat before going out for a smoke and takes off the jacket, but the smell is still pungent when he sits in front of me to do my nails. Towards the end of a gel color change, he starts to get hasty and the job gets sloppier. I've noticed this all 4 times I have had him now. In addition to this, the second time I came here, I asked what the prices were for each service. I wrote them down for future reference. Well... I have been keeping all 5 receipts and writing on the back what nail service I had done, just because I felt like there was an inconsistency in the pricing. And yesterday was the final proof. A prior visit on 10/22/18 had stated that I paid $23 for gel polish change hand ($15) + regular polish change toes ($8). Well yesterday, I was charged gel polish change hand ($18) + regular polish change toes ($8) = $26. I asked the cigarette guy "last time it was $23?" He responded that in October I asked for regular polish removal to gel polish change hand, whereas yesterday I went from removing gel polish to gel polish change on my hands. So there is a $3 difference between them taking off regular polish vs. gel polish. Had this been the case every time I visited, I would not have cared. But I went home and looked at all my receipts and his explanation was not consistent. Honestly, $3 is not the issue here. I am bothered by the inconsistency and how he talked crap about me to his co-worker sitting next to him for pointing out the price difference. What am I supposed to do? Bring my stack of receipts and point out that he's wrong? No, that would be petty. I think I will go back to this place one last time, request for the female who did my nails during my first visit, and see if the non-cigarette fingers touching me will make the experience better. As for the actual nails... he never does a great job. It's always ok. Again, he gets jittery towards the end of doing your nails because he needs to go smoke and there's always sections of my nail that's not painted on the sides of my fingers. Yesterday he somehow coated my nails with gel so that when cured, my nails were pointy and sharp. When I pointed out that my nails were all sharp and felt like sandpaper, he just filed them down -_- lol At this point I was just ready to leave so I stayed silent and let him pretend to fix my nails. It's been many many years since I've gone to Mimi Salon for my mani but today something told me to give them a GO (actually, it was the closet salon in my travels down S. Grand but whatever) I'm glad I decided to stop in for service. I waited at least a week too long for my mani/pedi and my brows were also going crazy so I reluctantly allowed Mimi to have its way with me. I get Gel Polish over my real nails for a short, neat, natural look. I also got a pedi; which was quick but very thoroughly done in the massage chair; also with matching pink Gel polish. The brow wax made me nervous because I cherish my thick brows. I only like them shaped slightly to get rig of fly aways lol... The tech did an amazing job at each and every service. Sure this place is tucked away in a tiny corner building resembling a shack, yes it's clustered and the techs are probably a bit rough around the edges but I classify them as "seasoned" I'll be back again for sure. Got acrylic gel nails from here and it went very well! I very much enjoyed having the male nail artist (I do not know his name or I would recommend him). He was very attentive to my nails and asked if I liked the shape, length, color, and finished product. Overall, he didn't speak to me, but I would very much prefer the quality of someone's work versus the social aspect of it. I liked my nails at the end of the session, he even went back to clean under my nails when he saw I was touching it, goes to show his attention to detail. With 80's nails posters on the walls and Asian inspired statues looking out through the window you'll know you definitely aren't in Kansas anymore. When you walk in you'll immediately be asked by one of the nail techs what you want. Pedicure, Manicure, Eyebrow wax, etc. You can then pick the color you want. They do carry OPI but I'm pretty sure they dilute it. They also offer design, either hand paint or airbrush. This is really cool watching them hand paint the design on and is only a few dollars more. If you're getting a pedicure I wouldn't recommend having the massaging feature on the chair turned on. You aren't given any controls for this and the massage knobs in the chair are pushed out so far that it is uncomfortable instead of relaxing. All in all this place is okay for a quick pedicure. It's definitely the cheapest I've seen around and the polish doesn't chip off too easily. read more

I really liked this place. I got a nail polish change with a design, eyebrows, and a pedicure for $36. I really enjoyed that the guy who did my pedi and nails did not really talk. I enjoy the awkward silence. It gives me time to think. After a long day of work, I like to skip the small talk. He was also very thorough and his work was clean. I went on a Thursday in the late afternoon, and I was the only one there. After about fifteen minutes, a lot of people came in asking to get their eyebrows done. I liked how the woman did my eyebrows. They weren't too thin and they were defined. I was really excited seeing all the great reviews. We got there and waited forever, which normally I wouldn't mind but there was only 2 people working and one just standing around. Some dude was trying to sell us fake purses and was a complete asshole. I had 3 different people work on my nails and all had bad attitudes. When I called ahead of time and asked about the gel they told me 15 when really it was 15 extra on top of the manicure price. VERY DIRTY. The last man who worked on my nails (why there was more than one I dont know) definitely cut me and didnt apologize. When I asked him to do an extra coat he refused, so they are now transparent. I went here because the reviews were great and I don't mind a little shadiness. And I was severely disappointed. First of all it is not clean. The man that did my nails made me bleed a bit, not his fault I had a hang nail, however he continued to use his tools without wiping it or letting me wipe it off. Gross. Their polish selection is awful (if you like red or pink this place is for you, any other color, I prefer dark colors, STAY AWAY. My biggest complaint however was when I asked for medium length almond nails. He started doing them and on the first nail asked if I liked the shape. I said "I think so" but upon further examination changed my mind. I said they were just a little too rounded for what I wanted and that I'd like them narrower. Mind you he was in the middle of shaping my second nail...not that far into the manicure. He refused because he said the shape I had looked better on my hand (FALSE) he just didn't want to continue filing. He didn't check to see that they were all the same length (they're not), nor did he round them all out evenly! He then (and I'm aware that it is common practice in some salons) asked for the money before he had painted my nails (meaning I had to leave a decent tip in order to get my nails painted well, with this service that was not something was planning to do.) He also uncharged me two dollars without telling me why. This place was horrible. I came in asking for medium almond nails left with short uneven, poorly rounded old lady nails.
