I had a broken pinky nail and I was staying at the 21c Museum hotel around the corner, but only for the day. When I called they were accommodating to quickly squeeze me in. It was easy to find and I liked the vibe of the building they are located in. They helped me fix my broken pinky nail quickly and easily. I was wearing a cat eye polish not easy to match so they helped me match both pinky nails in a tone that goes with the cat eye. They also have some fun bath bombs and other items to purchase. I bought a gummy bear shaped bath bomb that I haven't tried yet but looking forward to using it! When I am in the area again, I would go back for a nail fill & pedi to get the full experience! So, I have been a few times and want to love it. I live within walking distance and try to support local businesses. However, if you don't get one of the two owners, it's really a toss up of what type of service you'll get. I went today and it felt as if someone's younger sister showed up to do nails. There is absolutely no way she went through any sort of formal training or certification. She was pulling on my cuticles and I've never seen someone so awkward with a nail file, which she didn't really do. She didn't ask what shape or really any questions. She was so sweet, but just clearly didn't know what she was doing. You can tell in the pictures of how unevenly the polish was applied. It's cute inside and I feel bad leaving a mid review, but nails are expensive and a want not a need, so it's a huge letdown when the service isn't great quality. These really look like when I do them myself and I'm bad at doing nails. read more

Since moving to St. Louis I had been looking for a black owned nail salon that I could get my nails AND toes done (IFYKYK) so I was excited when I came across Sonder Lush Nail Studio. First off the space is so nice. It's open, clean and smelled good as soon as you walk in. The owner, Shamel was the one there and took care of me. She was incredibly thorough and took her time with my mani-pedi which I appreciated. They have sooo many color options and I love that they advertise a chemical free service. I've never had a traditional manicure before and Shamel made my first time a great experience. My nails and toes came out great and I'll definitely be back. read more

UPDATE #1 the owner kindly contacted me and offered to redo my service. I added another star for customer service and will re-review once I have another pedi. Appreciated the offer and promptness response to my review. UPDATE #2 had a wonderful pedicure by Aigner. She was super kinda, detailed-oriented, and my feet feel pampered and soft as can be. I'll be back! ORIGINAL review: I was super excited to try out a local nail salon especially black-owned. I had the worst experience. The facility itself was clean, the front desk was super friendly but it started and ended there. I had a pedicure by Da'Jaunaye. To make it concise: She Hardly spoke and didn't introduce herself, I had to ask her name. My 45 minute pedicure appointment started at 12:30, ended at 2:25. I did have to get gel taken off, but that took 10 minutes. She appeared as if she had not done a pedicure before, verbalizing in frustration 'oh crap' and 'This thing'. She attempted to put a top coat on my big toe without the second coat and only did a second coat after I asked. Didn't know how to put on disposable sandles and she proceeded to bump toe putting the shoes on. Took off entire toe nails of polish several times. I voiced concerned saying we could try another polish and she said it was fine and that she would thin it out. Proceeded to hit big toe putting on sandles, said she could fix with brush and do not do so. Lady next to me was in and out within 45 minutes. Voiced concerns to front desk, was told that they were sorry but no resolution offered. The end result was polish all over toes and not on nail bed, an uneven cut, my pinky toe is straight across, my toes do not look professional done, the polish is uneven and looks chunky, and my toes are smudged. Overall I'm very upset because I was excited to try this place, and it was a waste of almost 2 hours of my time and money. read more

A friend told me about this black owned nail salon downtown in Washington months ago. I was finally able to make an appointment. I am absolutely pleased with my service! Aigner, the nail technician, was professional and answered my questions. For the 1st time after getting a manicure, I don't have split skin at my cuticles. One of the worst manicures I've ever had. The space was cramped and cluttered. It didn't seem unsanitary, but just not well kept up. They used spray hand sanitizer instead of having me wash my hands, even after there was powder all over my nails and hands. They used a drill on my cuticles, which has left them really red and sensitive. It will take them some time to heal. The shaping of the nails were also very weird and not what I asked for, nor were they consistent. Before I left, I had to ask for the rough edges of my gel x extensions to be buffed. A couple of them are uneven. The polish I chose was labeled as color-changing but I was told it really didn't change colors, so I went with it because I liked the color it was labeled as. It was a completely different color and when I left it started changing like where it was ombre-style. That was not at all what I asked for and was told I'd get, so I went back immediately and asked for them to repaint my nails to a different color. They gladly did without charge, which I was appreciative of. The polish is bumpy and not smooth all over though now, which doesn't look great. I will be returning to my regular salon for my next manicure. read more
