I've been coming to this nail salon for the past year or so and have always had pretty good service. However, today took an unexpected and deeply unfortunate turn. I generally work with Twin* (not sure this spelling is correct). Today, she was nearly 30 minutes late to start my nails. Rather than acknowledge her tardiness or even apologize, she began service in such a hurried fashion. When I asked that she clean under my nail bed and shape my nails (they were chipped and uneven) before adding tips, rather than simply perform the request she proceeded to feign confusion, argue with me about what I meant, and call me "aggressive" for what was a pretty straightforward request. I recognize that miscommunication happens and we all have bad days, but to fall back on a lazy and racist trope such as calling a Black woman customer "aggressive" for making a reasonable request was extraordinarily poor form and absolutely appalling. As a paying customer, I deserve to ask for what I want and to experience good quality service. If I see you missing steps, mishandling the health of my nails, or rendering inconsistent quality, it is my literal right to ask that you address the problem. Rather than just take ownership for her behavior, Twin and her supervisors refused to service me altogether. Needless to say, I will not be back. read more

When I lived in St. Louis, this was my go to nail place. I write a lot of reviews but I'm picky with my verbal recommendations. This was a place I recommended to several of my friends and coworkers who also made it their go-to. I returned back after several years, and the nail salon was exactly as it had been, same place, same staff, same owner. That level of consistency is a testament to its quality. I asked for a gel mani removal. I was impressed with the level of care and attention they took to removing and shaping my nails. It was $10 whereas other nearby salons it's $15. Due to its popularity, it's definitely a salon to call ahead for a reservation. Also I wash my hands more than an average person and thoroughly, and found their gel and dip stays on for 4-5 weeks and their prices are reasonable. It's in the heart of CWE and if you live around, it's awesome to walk there but only con is parking can be tricky. But it's St. Louis so parking isn't all that bad read more

Had an excellent experience here today with artist Hannah. A friend made a reservation for 3 pedicures, we were taken promptly at our reservation time (at some salon's they make you wait even with a reservation because they accept too many walk-ins). The salon is clean and well lit, and they use a new foot tub liner for each customer. They have a wide selection of color choices and are very accommodating. This is the spot where I typically get my nails done in St. Louis. The service and quality of their manicures & pedicures are pretty consistent. The prices are a little high, but they are on par with other nail salons in the city. The owner is always very kind and willing to change a design or fix any errors in your nails. The facilities are clean, and they have an extensive collection of gel, dip, and regular polish shades. My biggest qualm with Central West End Nail and Spa, however, is often it can be a bit hectic on the inside. It seems that each timeslot is double booked and typically you will wait 10 to 15 minutes to receive service, even if you make an appointment and show up on time. The last few times I've been there my nail techs have been bouncing around from me to other customers. You do need a reservation to receive service, but even if you do have a reservation, you still have to do some waiting. I left a review about this salon before, and the owner tried to clap back saying my nails were "still being worked on" when I took photos. That's so funny! Cute attempt, but wrong. Here's the reality: 1. She ignored the fact that I was literally screamed at in the salon. Blatantly disregarded the horrible experience and tried to victim blame. 2. I was told "you're done" before the tech walked away. YOU CAN LITERALLY SEE THE EMPTY CHAIR ACROSS FROM ME IN THE PHOTO! She literally left and was done. I sat there, snapped the photos, and left. That wasn't mid-process--that was their idea of a finished product. Just because I sat in the chair after the tech was done and took the picture doesn't mean I was mid process. So to prove my point and as requested, here is another photo at home- not in the chair- Just two days after another visit, my gel polish was already peeling off. Two. Days. I wasn't out building houses or rock climbing--I literally woke up like this. After digging into why this happens, the answer is obvious: they're using old, expired gel. Translation: cheap shortcuts on products while still charging full price. So, let's be clear about what this salon actually offers: Staff who scream at customers instead of treating them with basic respect. Expired, low-quality products that ruin your nails. Prices that suggest you're getting luxury, but results that look like a five-year-old's art project. If you enjoy being disrespected, overcharged, and walking out with nails worse than press-ons from Walgreens, this is your spot. The people here were friendly. I would recommend for simple manis and pedis, maybe even gel. But I'd recommend going elsewhere beyond that. I made an appointment for two to ensure we could get our manicures next to each other and at the same time, but we were sat away from each other and her nails were started about 15 minutes before mine. So I'd explicitly request if you want to be sat with your friends. My manicure turned out pretty rough. I got dip nails and they added gel to get the design, which turned out thick and uneven. You could also see my real nail on the sides. I ended up removing them the next day at my usual place. Not the worst manicure I've had, but was bummed to pay $60. read more

So we went back and asked if they could fix the nails and they told me " the nail polish could peel the next day so they not fixing nothing". I VERY MUCH enjoyed this place, right in the heart of the CWE! I'm very picky when it comes to nail places. Too often in the city, the vibe is rather..."loud". I like quieter places! This was just that! Miss Hannah took great care of me! I have a VERY particular style-VERY short and oval. Usually, the tech doesn't want to do the length and shape I want and try to convince me otherwise. Hannah did not! I explained to her what I do, and how I can't type when my nails are too long. She actually did them SHORTER than anyone had, and THEEEEEE PERFECT SHAPE!! Lol once she was done she tooted her own horn and said "okay, these are really cute!" I have left a previous review as I've been going to CWE Nails for a year now since I moved to STL. Before quarantine, I went about every three weeks. With all the COVID precautions, this place is even better. They expanded the salon to next door to give more social distancing. The ladies are friendly and accommodating. The prices are not ridiculous especially since they are in the CWE - my typical dip manicure is $35. This was my first time getting one in a few months, I've only been getting pedicures while working from home. It's beautiful, in my fave OPI color called Chick Flick Cherry #60 which comes in regular, gel and dip powder. Update: I added a pic of how food the dip still looks after 25 days. Still pristine. I was finally traveling again and heading to Florida and wanted my toes to look good! I turned to Yelp to find the place to go and found this place's good reviews and I agree. I'm kicking myself because I swore I'd remember the name of my pedicurist but now I can't, darn it...it might have been Jill (is there a Jill there?). She was GREAT. Strong hands for the massage part but gentle when it came to the clipping the cuticles part. Their cleanliness standards for COVID are very good - the foot pools are lined with a disposable plastic barrier for each customer and there are plastic shields between you and your server. I ended up getting a manicure too, and she did a good job. The reason it didn't get 5 stars is sort of my own fault. I didn't like the color I picked for my finger nail polish and tried to ask if I could get a different one before we got too far, but either there was a language barrier or she convinced me that it looked good or both. Either way it was not the right color for me and I wish I'd been more assertive about stopping and changing. I recommend this place. Nice, basic mani-pedi place. read more

I have super mixed feelings about this review because when I got my nails done last week, they did a nice job. I got a dip manicure, and they look nice. There are some minor imperfections, but that's just the nature of dip, I think. I'm happy with them, overall. However, I went in a few days later to get a pedicure with my friend, and I was really disappointed. My friend and I both got the deluxe pedicure, and I got mine with gel ($50, plus tip). The lady doing my toes was super sweet and the massage was very nice, but unfortunately the pedicure itself was sloppy. I would have said something while it was happening, but I didn't see it until the end, and I wasn't going to make her redo them all, which is what it would have taken to fix them. The polish is all over my cuticles. I'm really disappointed because I rarely get pedicures because I can do a really good job doing them myself, so it was really disappointing to spend all that money on a pedicure when I could have done a much better job myself. I came here a couples times, and the service was either good or terrible depending on who worked on my nails. One time I got gel French manicure and it chipped the next day which was frustrating. The last time I came here was a really bad experience, and I don't think I'll come here again. First off, when my nail tech started working on my nails, she ended up moving me to another tech even though she started working on mine because another customer had walked in after me and requested her. Thought that was pretty rude and unprofessional. When I got moved to the other tech, they didn't even bother cleaning my hands and immediately started clipping my nails (without even looking at my hands) and was going so fast and being so sloppy and careless. I asked for tips but didn't want dip, and they did it anyways. I had a very similar experience to another review here so that is why I'm deciding share this review. The dip was very clumpy and ugly, and I politely showed some concern, and the tech was very rude.. then multiple techs came over and made me feel uncomfortable because it seemed the whole spa was looking at me. Although they do shape the dip down, the end product looked chunky and uneven, and I've had dip before that didn't look that bad. I feel like this tech dipped my finger like 10 times adding excessive dip. Although I had French manicure, there was blue glitter on my nails (contaminated from the dip), and when I pointed this out the tech was so rude and made me feel like I was the problem. The service isn't cheap and I leave a nice tip (even when the nails and service were bad), so I expect them to just do the nails the way they were supposed to get done. It's very unfortunate this happened because the few times I went a few years ago were better experiences but not anymore. TL;DR - nail technician hurt my toe so bad, it hasn't healed for almost a month after the injury. I had a pretty good experience at CWE nails while I was actually there. The music was soothing, the massage chair is by far the best salon chair I've sat in to this day, and the service was friendly. However, I must give CWE nails a one star for the issues I've been having with my left big toe since I went on September 3rd. I normally don't even write reviews, but the fact that I've been in this much pain for weeks afterward compelled me to do so. My nail technician was Vivian (also funnily enough my name but I digress). She was sweet and attentive. I told her I had ingrowns that needed tending to, and she was more than happy to help. However, I've never experienced such pain when getting ingrown nails cut down/pulled out. Discomfort, yes. But Vivian took this sharp tool and really dug in there, which I actually appreciated at first! I was like, "Oh, this is thorough, cool." Until it went too far. Vivian dug wayyyy too deep on the left side of my big toe. I felt it, and I repeatedly asked, "Am I bleeding?" to which she just shook her head and repeatedly apologized. I checked to see if there was any blood, but it was too far down in the mail crevice/under the nail to tell if I'd been hurt, so I let her proceed. Ever since, I've experienced recurrent bleeding from where she dug as well as recurring pain. I don't have any pictures from when the left side of my big toe was swollen & red, but I attached a picture of the newest (not first) scab that has formed on that side. It has literally been painful to walk at times or put pressure on my big toe. It's been weeks and honestly, I kind of want my money back for all the care and attention I've had to put into disinfecting and treating it, only being able to wear certain shoes, and experiencing the pain I have.
