More variety of egg dishes than I've ever seen on one menu that also include a bread or muffin and a small juice with almost every order. That's a Mimi's breakfast in a nutshell. We had a solid three star experience for our table. All we had to do is ask for set ups which were previously pilfered by a team building meeting seated at the large table behind us in the banquet room. The three of us ordered these selections: ham and eggs+Arnold Palmer, french toast with bacon+Diet Coke, and crab cakes florentine+hot chocolate. Although it took a while to get a table due to the fact that we got there after the area's church services let out, service was decent and the price ended up being about $12 each on average. read more

My first visit and I could have done without it. We went here for late lunch. Seemed there were a few tables occupied; that would be a good sign especially during the time we went. Sat a pretty clean booth. It did take our waitress a while to greet us. When she finally came around, we put in our drink orders. The menu is printed on oversized paper and the pictures took up most of the space. The dishes' descriptions were not impressive and neither were the extra large pictures. This place charges way too much for these plates. A long while later another waiter came by and said he'd be out serving us since our original waitress was really busy and would take our drink orders. Mind you there were only 2-3 other tables she was taking care of; how busy could she be? We told our new waiter we ordered drinks with her. He was cool and said that she'd bring it soon. Wrong! Too slow. We had to flag down the guy to get us our drinks when I noticed he brought his table drinks (seated after us) and our waitress was nowhere. She finally comes through with our drinks. We put in our orders and she said she'd put a rush on it. The food came at a nice speed. Not impressive though. The battered fish didn't taste right and the fish didn't stick to its breading once you cut it. The tartar sauce was okay. You'd think for $12 it'd be darn good. My friend's salmon was sitting on a mountain of spinach; what a waste. The waitress never came by again to refill our drinks. But a very long time later she graced our table with the check. Besides the ear aching screams of a child throughout our lunch, the service was snail pace slow and the over priced food is not tasty. Well, you probably know what Mimi's has to offer. This one is located in a somewhat cozy corner and next to Island's. The servers are OK given that this place is full of no-tip-paying-seniors, especially for breakfast. I can't do most of their pastas, way too oily for me. We have been coming here for years -- mostly for breakfast or lunch, and recently for dinner. This restaurant is usually awesome, however, this time it was not the best experience we've had here. Let's just say that we were a little disappointed. It started out well -- we were greeted by two gentlemen holding the doors opened, then quickly seated and our orders were taken. The waiter was very friendly . Our beverages came out quickly followed shortly by the freshly baked bread. So far, so good! Hubby ordered fish and a side salad and I ordered a turkey club. He asked for the salad to come out prior to the meal. It took a while for the waiter to bring the beverages. We finished the bread and waited a little for our order to come out. It finally did come out, but they forgot hubby's salad! When hubby made mention of the salad, the waiter said "they're working on it and that the kitchen was backed up". Good grief! How hard is it to throw lettuce on a plate? He cancelled the salad. I could tell he was a little miffed / disappointed.... The fish came out hot (unlike the previous experience at the Mimi's in San Diego - you can take a look at my review for that), BUT it was drowning in sauce. I think they were trying to teach the cooked fish to swim! Either put the sauce on the side or go easy with it. If he wanted that much sauce, he would have ordered the sauce with a side of fish....... As we were eating, we were noticing what was going on around us. At one point, there were a total of five servers standing around just B.S.-ing in the lobby by the front entrance (and for quite some time!). Two of the ones were the gentlemen that held the door opened for us as we entered. It's no wonder why the kitchen was "backed up". There's no one in it! I hope they are happy to pay employees to stand around and do nothing. Heck, I would LOVE to be paid to do nothing!!!! The lady at the table next to us ordered a muffin before her meal. Her entree was brought out, and finished halfway before she had to remind the waiter about the muffin. When he brought it out, he said, "here's dessert". She was not amused and packed it to go. The table behind us ordered hot tea. They brought out the bread, the hot water and a tea bag, but they never brought out a cup for the tea! Hello!!!! After several minutes, the man had to flag down a different waiter to ask him for a cup. The water was probably not so hot by then. So a few minutes go by, and I hear that same man flag down another waiter and said "we've been sitting here for 20 minutes and our waiter has not taken our order yet". They finally sent over the waiter to take the order. How ironic the word "wait-er"... A little while goes by, and they bring out a big bowl of soup for him. A few minutes later, he is flagging down another waiter to ask for another bowl so he could share his soup. The soup was probably cold by then! To have the same waiter offering sub par service at three tables while it is not busy, is not a good thing. Perhaps a bit more training and sense of urgency would help. Take a lesson from the two bartenders at the Skagway Brewing Company who can run circles around him (you can see my review for that restaurant as well). They were going in 10 different directions simultaneously servicing multiple parties with their food while also making drinks, and it was all on point. They did not skip a beat! This experience left us shaking our heads. The service we've had during breakfast and lunch was always on point. Everything was always perfect and timely. We never had to ask for refills, they just brought it before we ran out. We had to ask for refills this time... Their dinner staff leaves a lot to desire. It's no wonder why they have to entice folks in with a coupon. They need to re-examine their staffing and redistribute the help so that the kitchen isn't "backed up" while others were just standing around doing nothing. If I were the owner / manager, I wouldn't be too happy seeing that. Sadly this is not the level of service that we are used to at Mimi's. At the time, it wasn't even busy! Yummy breakfast at Mimi's cafe including a delicious new Pineapple Upside-down muffin and some tasty large beverages before we enjoy the rest of our breakfast! We enjoy either eating at the bar area w Carlos who is terrific...or dining in the main dining room. Mimi's quiches and breakfast dishes are all so delicious! My breakfast is the egg white delight and I added avocado it is fantastic! My son ordered the Pain Perdu that has lots of berries too! Cinnamon french toast is wonderful too! I've been coming to this Mimi's for 30 years. It has been in the central part of Irvine for a long time. I have fond memories of it when I was a child. It was always the go-to brunch place after church. It has withstood the changes of time and has stayed strong as everything changed around it. It is in a great location and serves good food. I will always love the buttermilk spice muffins the most. I will always eat here for the feeling of nostalgia and for the good food. I'm happy it's still in the area. read more

He was polite, speedy, and efficient. Great holiday atmosphere! 5 Stars! Lots of parking available as well! Good prices, what a value! The meal consisted of: Course 1: Soup or Salad Course 2: White or Dark Turkey Meat with mashed potatoes, gravy, sweet potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce, carrots and broccoli with rolls, bread and butter on the side. This review is for one meal - breakfast. I can't say I was impressed. I chose the eggs Benedict. One of the eggs was under-poached, the ham was way too slab-like. Potatoes were so-so, a little greasy in my opinion. Mimi's Cafe was my favorite restaurant as a child, because I loved the worms in mud dessert that they used to serve. It's been a long time since I've eaten here last, and a lot has changed. I guess I always knew that their menu was based on French Quarter/New Orleans cuisine, but I really don't see that reflected in the menu. It honestly is simply American chain restaurant food, and there is nothing wrong with that. I ordered the Grilled Salmon & Frites. No complaints at all, the fries were crispy and delicious, grilled salmon was well-cooked if not a little bland. Mimi's is more than a restaurant; it is an experience. It's like the Disney of restaurants: Choose your theme! Do you want to dine outside with the flowers and butterflies? Or would you like the upscale dining room? Perhaps the casual French Bistro-designed area. Most of the Mimi's locations offer several "themed" rooms, although that's not how they refer to them. But I always choose the one which suits my mood, or occasion. And Mimi's is the perfect restaurant for any occasion, in my opinion, from casual to well, semi-formal at least. I would kill to have a Mimi's in my town. Okay, so I've talked a lot about the ambiance. Because it's GREAT!! But you probably want to know about the food. It is good to adequate, depending on what you get. But usually worth the price you pay, because, for this ambiance, the prices are excellent. I recommend their breakfast. Saturday November 20th the only restaurant that was serving prepared holiday family meals was Mimi's Cafe. The thought was that we'd enjoyed Mimi's OC locations over the past few decades so we'll give it a try. What could go wrong did and the entire experience was absolutely horrible. I ordered the "whole turkey family feast" online Nov 2nd and recieved order confirmation then phoned Mimi's Irvine a half hour prior to my confirmed pick-up time to have the staff inform me they didn't have any Thanksgiving family meals ready or even available until Monday. Wait, what? Panic set in as I was committed to bringing this holiday meal to Ventura to feed my family. The food items that ended up in a box weren't close to being edible and we ended up having to cook the few frozen foods my parents had on hand that we tried to make do with. To top it off the staff was completely disrespectful arguing with me that I was lucky to even be celebrating Thanksgiving because he will be working Thanksgiving Day. He is the same person that hung up on me when I called Mimi's before arriving. People with this chip on their shoulder attitude should not be allowed in the hospitality industry. I asked him to write his first and last name down on a piece of paper which I have and I'm prepared to share details of this entire experience with Mimi's Cafe corporate office. I've left four voice messages and two emails over a three day period for the corporate office to have zero response. Now I'm not surprised many of their restaurant locations have been closing. I'll be phoning my credit card to dispute their more than $140 charge. So my family of 5, 2 adults, 3 kids, ages 5, 3, & 1 arrived at Mimi's Cafe around 10am. The wait was about 15 mins. The kids were starving since they haven't had breakfast yet. Once we were seated, we ordered the following: Eggs Benedict Florentine Eggs Benedict Belgian Waffles Kids Chocolate Chip Pancakes Blueberry Muffin I asked the waiter to bring the kids food as soon as it was ready & not to wait for everyone's food to bring together since the kids were starving. She said ok. This is where it started going downhill. Our waitress Ashley brought our fresh squeezed orange juice that came with our meals in STYROFOAM cups!?!? She tried to explain they were out of the regular glasses. Who serves juice in STYROFOAM cups at a sit down restaurant? Worse part, 5 mins later, the table next to us were served their juice in glasses... uh??? Then 45 mins laters... kids starving and acting up, AFTER I asked our waitress where our food was... they brought all the food together... I have never considered Mimi's anything special but it's fine for a reasonably priced bite. But I have never had a meal that was so catastrophically a failure for everybody in our party. Everybody in our party had a dirty something, Dirty lipstick coffee cup, crusted fork, and dirty cloth napkins. As for the food, the Cesar Salad had sweet and greasy croutons, steak was over seasoned, and one of our party members did not receive their food until everyone had finished dining, as well as also being the wrong order. I'm am curious as to why this specific Mimi's has no reviews. It has been here the 6 years I have lived here. Mimi's is French inspired/Creole cuisine. They have pretty good hours, and depending when you go, can be either really good, or pretty inadequate. The decore is kid friendly, bright and lively. The Irvine location gets a lot of business on weekend mornings, which is both a testament to it's quality, but also a detriment in my opinion. They offer separate menus for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. Keep this in mind if you're trying to look for all day breakfast as it won't be available. The food is good if you're looking for French or upper end New Orleans Bayou fare. Their brunch is very adequate - frills are there, and the price is decent. Again, this is post church fare to treat Mom and Dad to a good rich breakfast fare. My personal recommendation, especially if you're looking for good fare on a light budget, the french onion soup and any of their muffins. Both are very good and can alone take the place of a full meal. If you're coming for breakfast/brunch and looking for prompt seating, search elsewhere. Expect to spend about 20-30 minutes waiting to be seated and another 30 or so for your food to come out after you order during peak times. The wait staff is fairly experienced, as again, and they do their best during high volume days, however there are some points where one wonders if hosting staff is either overburdened or otherwise inadequate. Normally I would give the overall rating a 4, but at peak times, it barely makes a 3, with the food making up for the service. read more

While I'm not a big fan of chain restaurants, Mimi's Cafe is a good place to go if you need something fatty to soak up the alcohol from last night's binge drinking session. The atmosphere is very, wannabe Louisiana-ish/French, and is rather inviting. What I usually get: 1. Eoufs et Pain Perdu - Eggs and stuffed french toast. The french toast is stuffed with cream cheese and marmalade.... so stinking good. 2. Meat Omelette - Okay, so I forgot the name for this one. But its an omelette with sausage in it. Really tasty 3. Corned Beef Hash - The ultimate hangover killer. While the corned beef hash here has the texture of cat food, its actually rather good. You get sick of it after a while though... corned beef hash should be a bit more crispy. All in all, not bad food. Everything (breakfast wise) comes with a muffin and juice, so you get quite a bit more food than you expect at a relatively low price. read more

When the food arrived, my omelette looked like it went through a food processor. Quality of the food poor. I can make better a omelette at home. A week later, I decided to give it a second chance. This was our first time to Mimi's in this particular location. We had a wonderful breakfast. The waiters & waitresses were friendly and pleasant. They brought out our orders pretty quickly and altogether. We were especially impressed with our waitress, Suhey. I ordered fresh OJ and forgot to ask if it was fresh and it wasn't. She kindly took it off the tab for us. Also, there were freshly baked croissants that came in and she gave us an amazing almond croissant to sample. Still warm and crisp outside. We have been going to this location for our business meetings for the last five years. The food is average at best and the prices are moderate. We continue to go there because the service has always been good and very few kids go there so we can have a peaceful meeting. Our last meeting there was a nightmare. It took us 40 minutes to get our food which is never acceptable. The waiter was brand-new and they were understaffed. I only get one dish here, it's basically their chicken alfredo with artichokes. The name of it has changed on me before, but the dish is still the same thing. You also get a either a side Cesar salad or the french onion soup. I like the Cesar, and I USE to like their french onion soup, but that was before I tried other places and made my own, the last time I had it, it didn't have that robust flavor that you should get from caramelizing the onions and beef stock. What makes up for it is their pumpernickel bread that comes with your meal. I can eat a whole loaf of it, and sometimes I do! Other than my dish of choice, I don't think anything else really stands out on the menu for me. I've been told they have a good breakfast or brunch items, but have never personally tried it out. One thing that stands out about this location is that I have had consistently good service here. The waiters are very helpful and attentive. I think that is because Mimi's seems to attract an older senior citizen crowd. So you probably have to be pretty patient when dealing with those customers. read more

Alright I don't know if all the waiters were high or didn't take their medicine last Sunday, but WTF is going on in this restaraunt?? We got seated in the way back of the place and a waiter came and took our drink order. 2 seconds later a different waiter came by and tried to take our drink order again! THEN it took another 20 mins to get the waiter to come back and take our order. My food was completely cold when I got it and they totally screwed up my friends sandwhich. The manager came over and apologized and said can you wait 2 mins for a new one...sure. So 2 mins went by and we are all practically done with our food..the sandwhich never comes. All in all, the service was just HORRIBLE at this place. They comped the 20 bucks of the bill, but still. GET ORGANIZED. I would expect more from Mimi's! Last review was over a year ago which entailed food poisoning. Yesterday, 12/10/12, I returned in good faith with a party of 23. Class breakfast and Charity drive with my students. We were set up in the banquet room and everything looked very nice, clean, and orderly. Manager Shane and server Justine did a decent job taking care of our group, though it must be said that for a party of 23, you REALLY should assign MORE THAN ONE SERVER. I ended up having to pass out menus, answer questions about the food, and explain the seasonal menu items, not to mention dig around for condiments and table settings. After the orders were placed and we were waiting for our breakfasts/lunches to arrive, drinks ran low and service was nowhere to be seen for quite some time, so I went into the service station and started refilling waters and coffees. The ice tea machine was empty so I couldn't refill everyone's drinks. Once the food arrived, the server (singular) disappeared once again. The manager came in once to check in on us but that was about it. Everyone seemed pretty happy with their food and the room. They weren't too thrilled about the lack of attention to drinks and follow up, though they had a good laugh having their teacher serve them. I enjoyed it and as far as I'm aware of, nobody got sick. We'll be coming back again I'm sure, but hopefully next time they give us at least two servers. read more

Why the harsh reviews? I think this place is amazing, but maybe its because i have some sentimental feelings for this chain restaurant. I had my 16th birthday here back in San jose. Anywho, the atmosphere is very cozy and there's always a wait for Sunday brunch, but I tell you, it's worth it. (we waited 30 min) Free muffins while you wait? Why didn't I know this? The service is very nice and friendly. We had a very attentive waitress who recommended us specials. But my friends knew what they wanted. My friend especially likes the Huevos Y Papas. She describes it as deep fried mashed potatoes.. SOUNDS GOOD, and it was! I will get this next time! I ordered the Crab and Avocado Omelette.. two foods I love so much.. but weren't too great together. I must say I couldn't really taste the crab til I was almost half way done. Not one to recommend. But I'll telll you waht I recommend, THEM MUFFINS! mmm.. i couldn't try the banana chocolate chip because I gave up sweets for lent, but i had the carrot spice muffins.. MMMMm those are fantastic. The food is excellent but the service sucks. A friend and I met to conduct business and were seated in the bar area. Service started out well but we didn't see the waiter again after we asked for a few minutes to look at the menu. We had to flag someone down in the bar to serve us. No one came to check on us the whole time. We finally ordered and got our food. We ordered the Salmon Benedict, which was excellent, and the artichoke dip appetizer. We finally asked for our tab and waited forever for staff to pick it up. No hospitality whatsoever. Ugh. My goodness, the service is absolutely terrible!! read more
