This was my first time at Houston's, and I already can't wait to go back! Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious. The crispy chicken sandwich was definitely my favorite--I would 100% get it again! Our server was also so attentive and gave us some great recommendations. Such a great experience overall! Perfect spot for date night

Always fantastic service and food. My first time at this location and I loved the outdoor area for waiting and you will also be offered drinks while there waiting for a table. Spinach artichoke dip and French dip are the best items on the menu. Will forever be returning!

Yay artichokes are back in season so I had to return to Houstons since their artichokes are sooo delicious! Also, the service here is outstanding! What sets this restaurant apart form others in the Hillstone Restaurant Group is really 2 things for me: 1. The service is always amazing! Top notch! 2. They have a great variety of sushi where their other locations/sister restaurants do not The Tuna mango roll is my favorite. Osaka Style Pressed Sushi which everyone raves about was good but not my favorite. My favorite entrees are the French Dip (but I like soft large fries abd it comes with thin crispy fries) and I also love the Thai Noodle Salad (with pork) it is DELICIOUS!

It's been over a decade since I visited. We arrived for an early dinner for my son's birthday. He wanted to try the famous pineapple marinated steak. Even at 5 in the afternoon, the restaurant was pretty full. Nevertheless, we were seated rather quickly and our waitress Michelle came out to greet us. The menu is one page and she guided us to the favorites. Overall, the steak was tender, the ribs were falling off the bone the slaw was not too watery. I would recommend visiting for the easy going atmosphere and friendly service. Please note that the baked potato is an option only after 5:00PM.

Me and my hubby were craving for some HAWAIIAN RIB EYE at HOUSTON'S so we searched on Yelp and found another location in IRVINE. That's great if you're coming from Inland Empire because it's closer than the one located in PASADENA... RESERVATIONS: I highly recommend making a reservation because it can get impacted throughout the day. There was a couple ahead of us and they were seated at the BAR AREA because they didn't have reservations... HAWAIIAN RIBEYE: 9/10 The steak was cooked perfectly with a nice medium pink center. However, the seasoning and marination was not as memorable and flavorful as the Hawaiian Ribeye in Pasadena!... COCONUT SHRIMP ROLL: 8/10 I was expecting an actual fried coconut shrimp inside of the roll but, it was cooked shrimp with some shredded coconut flakes with avocado inside the roll. It was edible but, not too exciting for the taste buds... SERVICE: 10/10 All the ladies were super nice and friendly. I also noticed they were all very beautiful as well. As if they should all be in the beauty industry or entering pageants!!! ROCK ON HOUSTON'S RESTAURANT!!!!!

Houston's Irvine is one of those places that just always delivers. Classic Hillstone Group restaurant with all the favorites. The ambiance is a big part of it, dark, moody, and really well done. It feels polished and upscale without being over the top. Service is next level. Small details stand out, like them swapping out my martini glass midway through the drink to keep it ice cold. That kind of attention is rare and makes a difference. One thing to note, they do enforce a dress code. I was asked to remove my hat when I walked in, so just be aware of that going in. The food is where it really shines. The Osaka-style pressed sushi is a must, super clean, balanced, and just melts. I could eat 4 of those and call it a night if everything else wasn't so good! The Thai Tuna Roll brings a little more punch but is still really refined. The yellowtail salad is one of my favorites, light, fresh, and perfectly dressed. And you absolutely cannot skip the artichoke, it's a staple for a reason, rich, shareable, and consistently great. On the heavier side, the French dip is incredible. Tender, flavorful, and paired with that au jus, it's one of the best versions around. And my vote for the best horseradish cream anywhere. It's not cheap, but you know what you're getting, and it's worth it. Definitely a go-to spot when you want a reliable, high-quality meal in Irvine. Note that reservations are recommended, it books quickly and there are lots of business lunches and dinners here due to the location.

This place is always busy for a reason. In case you're wondering, it's a Hillstone Group restaurant. The bar area is small but if you can grab a seat it's seriously the best. The restaurant itself isn't huge but has nice tables meant mostly for smaller groups. Probably no more than 6 max. The smoked salmon appetizer is amazing. The kale rotisserie chicken salad is perfection. And the Crush is the most refreshing cocktail ever!! Love living down the street from this delicious restaurant.

Houston's was absolutely amazing! Exceeded my expectations, the flavor and the service was on point. I wish I got my servers name because she deserves a shoutout. My bf and I had our date night here and ordered the spinach and artichoke dip which he loved, I thought it was just ok. I ended up ordering the sashimi and the Hawaiian ribeye. Highly recommend the ribeye, super delicious. I will be back.

I swear I love coming here just took forever for our food to come out for my mom's birthday lunch . 2 of us + my baby. The Hawaiian is always so fire but this time mine came out medium when I wanted medium rare , when it was remade it actually then came out so rare instead of but I felt bad and just said it was okay lol still enjoyed it I'm against a kale salad , I don't know why kale frightens me when it is dressed , however I absolutely loved all the salads( all their salads are with kale) Especially the yellowtail sashimi salad. The it was the best and I wouldn't have ever thought to try to until the server recommended it for me I think for 3 apps and 2 mains we dined a little over two hours , waiting for the surprise dessert to come took a while too , and of course the remake of the steak took some time . Genuinely a five star place , just had a four star experience. The servers aren't responsible for what the chefs put out , but they are the first impression, and they are delightful :)

First timers! The food was decent for mid to nicer dining experience. Great ambiance and friendly and very attentive waitress we had. Appreciated the time we could take there as well. The spinach dip was gooey and yummy but a little bland so we added pepper. The pressed sushi was surprisingly fresh and smooth. I wouldn't think to come here for sushi but happy we tried it! The Hawaiian steak was delicious a bit chewy and well done but tasty nonetheless. And the chicken was moist, standout item was the baked potatoes side I got with it and the frie sauce. Overall good. Compared to other steak houses not the best but for a nice night out, we def had!

It's been years, like 10+ years, since I ate at a Houston's restaurant. I remembered the food being good, but the restaurant on the darker side. I recently visited this Houston's location on the recommendation of a friend and the experience was very good. We made a day of reservation for a late lunch around 1:30pm. Once we both arrived, we were seated within minutes. Our server was nice and greeted us right away. She took our drink orders and provided a bit of menu insight. We ordered several items to share and enjoyed them all. There was a slight mix-up to our order, but our server and management were wonderful and took care of it immediately, making it right. The restaurant was packed!!! I mean every table was taken, even in the mid-afternoon time frame when we left. Prices were more affordable than I anticipated. It is still a dark restaurant as I remembered, but each table had a light above. Based on this experience, I would definitely return.

I don't know how I've NEVER written a review for Houston's before. It is an Irvine staple for my wife and I. We've been to Houston's more than any other restaurant in Orange County. The service and food is always 10 out of 10. The drinks are incredible. Our favorite is the sushi. Better sushi than some of the Japanese restaurants around. My favorite is the BBQ ribs. They literally fall right off the bone. The atmosphere is always nice too. They have sound barriers hanging from the ceiling so it never gets too loud. I don't have enough great things to say about Houston's. Our favorite.

My wife and I had a reservation. We drove directly from the Dodgers game to the restaurant. We were both wearing a Dodgers jersey. Sorry. Can't be seated. Check-in person asked, "Do you have a change of clothes"? Sure. Of course. We always bring a change of clothes with us. Asked to speak to manager. Can;t we just sit in the corner booth? Same story. Sorry, can't eat here wearing that jersey. So we walked across the parking lot to this other fine dining restaurant, Ruth's Chris. Perhaps you've heard of them? They were happt to have our business. I don't know and I don't care what reason you have for your policy, Houston's-- but we think it is a very stupid policy. The ragged t-shirts with surf shop logo's waiting to be seated, they were just fine. Etc. We don't need you.

Houston's Restaurant Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Houston's Restaurant

It looks a though they have a patio located on the left side of the restaurant, is that available for dining?

I have been going to Houston's Irvine for years and have never seen anyone dining outside. It's also not an option when making a reservation.

Does the Prime Rib Dip include mayonnaise? In most of the pictures it appears to have it. I'd really like it to be included, so just wondering if I need to ask.

It comes with horseradish not mayonnaise. But if you wanted mayonnaise, I'm sure they would accommodate your request!!

Is there a private room for large parties? Like say 20-30 people?

There is not. Houston's does not accommodate large parties over 8 in general.

Do you have a kids menu?

There is no kids menu, but my 10 year old daughter who's a picky eater, actually loves the smoked salmon and the grilled artichokes. The Hillstone artichokes are the only vegetable she actually requests to eat, anywhere. One thing to mention is…

    Can you where hats?

    Absolutely not.

    Are pets welcome?

    Absolutely not.

Will you accommodate a hungry & thirsty party of six?

    Absolutely

Hi what is the corkage fee?

$25 per bottle for the first 2 $35 per bottle after that

Do they still do their Prime Rib?

Just the sandwich and they no longer offer the loaded baked potato. I asked the server why and she said because of COVID which seems stupid as there is hardly a cheaper product than potatoes. Other than that they still set the standard for service…

    Do you have outdoor dining/seating?

Nope, just inside but they have a cocktail server so you can get drinks while you're waiting!

Is it pay with card only?

Yes. And I just double checked and it's noted at the bottom of the menu online.

    Can you carry A1 sauce?

Their steak is exquisite. A1 not required.

    Is there happy hour?

Hi Nikki, we do not have a happy hour. Thanks for asking though!

    Is the restaurant open today?

Is sit down an option for dinner now?

    Yes!

Do your employees wear masks and gloves? Your owner (Hillstone Restaurant Group) banned employees from wearing masks.

    Did we find this answer

Do you have gift cards for Houston and Banderos? Can both be purchased at location on Rosecrans?

Hi Jim, thanks for your questions. You can purchase our gift cards on through our website: www.hillstone.com.

    Happy hour on weekdays?

ONly on holiday weekends and special event weekends...

Is the Salmon wild? Not the app, the entree one?

Hi Cat, our salmon is farmed raised...typically from the Faroe Islands.

    Do they have baked potatoes?

Hi Kadie, we do serve baked potatoes, but only after 5pm.

And if you've never had chicken karaage sizzling curry, it's a must-try at least once in your life. + Polite, helpful staff. + Decent amount of indoor and outdoor seating. + I like how the curry comes in a gravy boat (aka saucière). Then, they bring out the sizzling meal on a hot stone plate. You wanna drape your meal in that curry while it's hot to enjoy that sizzling phenomenon. + Pleasant ambience. Non-likes: - Price gouging outta control. See attached image for detail. Beef curry used to be $12.80. Their new menu now says $13.99, but that's not even the true price. Today the pre-tax price turned out to be $14.89! Karaage curry used to be $16.80. Now the menu says $19.09, but on Grubhub it's a whopping $23.39! (Approaching a $10 price increase!) Makes the Rakuten 4% cash back seem like a joke. This Rakuten saving would reduce the GH price from $23.39 to $22.45, but that's still on the exorbitant side. I mean, if your cash back is gonna be too cheap to cover the price hike, why have it at all? What I'm requesting is for PL's Rakuten-Grubhub to offer a cash back equal to or greater than the price increase. In this case, since a 19% cash back would offset the price increase that's occurring from $19.09 to $23.39, R-GH should offer a cash back of at least 20% to justify the use of online ordering. (Otherwise I'd just order by phone call.) Out of all the restaurants I've seen, prices rise at Pepper Lunch the fastest. Their new menu belies the actual prices. - And of course the chicken pasta: $13.80 became $15.99 (which is $17.23 post-tax) within the past couple years. Prices rising rapidly! - They removed the Yelp check-in offer for a free side if you order two dishes. I miss every lost opportunity to try to counterbalance the price hikes. I had: $16.04 Beef Curry + $17.23 Chicken Pasta = $33.27

Good: My order was delayed and the team were super communicative and checked back with me multiple times. They were friendly and seemed genuinely concerned about the time. I appreciated their service. Bad: Because the order was delayed, I think they severely under seasoned everything. My daughter's alfredo kids meal was nothing short of boiled pasta served. It looked like they missed all sorts of anything on it to be honest. I bought it home to her going, "YUCK!" She never has used those words to describe pasta. I ended up trying a bite and have to agree. Next comes the breadsticks. Looking at the pictures, they look like they have some sort of cheese/garlic/butter on them. I was provided completely plain breadsticks. This was bread baked in the oven and put in a bag and given. I am highly disappointed in what I was given. Both pasta for my kid and my breadsticks completely missed the mark. Apart from their service being awesome, the food absolutely stunk. Looking back at the pictures from other guests, I really think my experience is an unfortunate experience. The waiter who explained how everything works had a pretty strong accent and it was kind of loud in there so it was a little hard to understand but he was more than happy to answer any questions we had. The salad bar had a ton of variety and all of it was so good. The shrimp was delicious and spicy, the jasmine rice was so warm and soft. The potatoes were cheesy and soft. They give you complimentary mashed potatoes, cheesy bread, plantains, and French fries and all of it was cooked to perfection. It was hard to not eat all of it right away. The meat selection is a little overstimulating since the waiters are just buzzing around the tables looking for people to shave off a piece of meat for. All of the food runners were extremely friendly and looked happy to be there, there were just so many of them. You get overwhelmed because you just start saying yes to all the meat because you don't want to miss out on a good piece but then you end up with a ton of food on your plate. We didn't order any drinks because we were trying to only get full off the actual food but we had multiple waiters try to get us to order their house cocktails. Then the appetizers were so good. We had their calamari, prosciutto wrapped mozzarella and lobster and crab cake. Each dish was decadent without being heavy. Tasted amazing. Really built your anticipation for dinner. Their wedge salad was extremely fresh and crunchy. Never had one before but if this is what salads are meant to taste like, I will be ordering more in the future! Tasted amazing. Almost acted like a palate cleanser. Entrees we had their porcini rubbed bone in ribeye in 15 year aged balsamic sauce and their pan seared sea bass. They were both so good!! Best steak I've had at a restaurant in a very long time. The crust was amazing. The sauce was to die for. The steak was cooked perfectly (medium rare) and it literally melted in your mouth. The sea bass was cooked perfectly as well. Well seasoned. Flaky. And just so good. The table had shareable sides including mash potatoes, lobster mac n cheese and grilled asparagus. The large chunks of lobster was amazing in the dish. Everything tasted great. They had the drinks flowing. Wines beers, seltzers and cocktails. For dessert it was a trio of different desserts. Beautiful presentation and tasted amazing. Its a very nice restaurant. The quality of food is top tier. The taste is next level. Customer service is amazing. Fortunately for us it was all paid for. But if not be prepared to pony up some Benjamins!!

The Capital Grille is always a hit for me. One of my favorite times to visit is during The Wagyu…read moreand Wine Pairing. They offer Wagyu burgers paired with a glass of wine for $35. If you appreciate a great burger, and just happen to like wine.. you will be as happy as me. The event happens every April and November. Check it out. As usual, the customer service was always. The ambiance is nice and relaxed.
