GOODBYE LONGTIME, RELIABLE FRIEND! I've enjoyed Mimi's for more than a couple of decades--it's been a go to choice for lunch, brunch, and dinner! The atmosphere has always been enjoyable, and the food always satisfyingly delicious. On 1/17/26, I treated a dear friend to dinner after a matinee show at the Gallo Center. We both enjoy Mimi's--sadly, not any more!! My French Pot Roast entree was luke-warm over piping hot mashed potatoes--huh...hmmm...?? Her Hibachi Salmon entree had undercooked rice--WHAT?!! (Chef's night off?? These are worse than NOVICE mistakes!!) This was prime dinner time on a Saturday evening--and, by-the-way...no manager in sight. The place was unusually quiet--few customers, only sparse regulars. As a side note: our server was being given recommendations for work at other restaurants by a couple of her "regulars." She wasn't too concerned about our substandard entrees; said she'd tell the kitchen, but "couldn't do anything about it." WOW! Management not available--probably also looking for other work?! Our dessert--apple crisp crumble--was tasty, yet more soft than crisp. I figured, WHY leave a review--the place was more-than-likely going under...?! This evening (4-months later) I was surprised when Mimi's came up under recommendations. I thought they'd be closed by now. Be forewarned--Mimi's is NOT what it used to be!! SO SAD, but I will not be returning! (My late father was a successful and celebrated chef from back East. As chain restaurants go...Mimi's was "ON" his list--especially the Modesto location. I loved my experience coming here yesterday. I always loved the design of Mimis, how it feels like a little European cafe. The restaurant and bathroom were clean and well maintained. The bread and carrot madelines were hot & DELICIOUS! I honestly could've eaten like 10 of them lol. Our server Ashley was lovely. We got the burger and it was hot, delicious and full of flavor. Ashley automatically put ranch on the side for our fries also. It's like she could read my mind! She was very sweet and accommodating and really made our visit worthwhile. We didn't have to ask for a thing, she was on top of it! Even attentive to refilling our water, we never had to wave her down for anything. I'm all about customer service above all and she absolutely nailed it! We will definitely be back! read more

We stopped here driving through CenCal just off of Hwy99. The place has been around for some time and has a nice rustic ambiance inside and out. It might be the same booth benches since business started because most of them looked worn out with tears and deformed cushions. Service was prompt, friendly, and very welcoming. Where they came polarizing were the food quality. I ordered their homemade corned beef and hash and it was outstanding. It was fresh with the right amount of seasoned corned beef, potatoes, and herbs & spices. I would give them a 1 star if it weren't for the CB&H and the service. Their chicken fried steak & gravy in the meantime was awful. The worst one we've had by far. The CFS was spartan at about 4"X6"X1". The texture and flavor was horrible indicative of freezer burn. I've consumed enough CFS to tell it was heated in the microwave and the very honest waitress confirmed it. The batter was rubbery, yes the batter was chewy. The meat inside appeared pulverized almost non existent. The gravy looked and tasted like it was watered down bland and pastey. It was inedible. We absolutely love the ambiance here, it's cute and exactly the right vibe. Susie helped us today, and she has the sweetest demeanor. She was professional, super helpful, and greeted us with a smile the entire time. I'll definitely be back because of her! Cute brunch spot, average food. I enjoyed my time at Mimi's Cafe but was not really impressed by the food nor service. The menu is huge, with all-day breakfast, lunch, and dinner items, pastries, and offers catering. The seasonal menu looked interesting but I didn't have the chance to try any of those items. The crab cake eggs Benedict was not too bad. It seemed like the crab cake itself was not premade/frozen. It tasted pretty fresh! The portion was large but unfortunately lacked flavor. The hollandaise sauce didn't have that zing or zest that a good hollandaise sauce typically has. The potatoes were a bit dry and were not well seasoned. I feel that the service was slow considering the restaurant was nearly empty. My group sat at the table for an awkwardly long time before our order was taken. The food also came out pretty slow too. When the condiments were brought to our table, I was grossed out. The ketchup bottle was super sticky and grimy! The decor in Mimi's Cafe is super cute. It is decorated like a grandma's cottage house. Very vintage, very cute. I'd love to give Mimi's another chance. read more

Had to stop by and check if this place is still the same as before. Am a bit disappointed that our server was not attentive at our table today. Food was great and the interior of the place is country style. This place takes reservations and since Valentine's day this weekend might as well call and make a reservation for your date. Tasty or WasteY???? Always Tastey. We have been coming to Mimi's for years. We are always welcome with a smile. They treat us as if we are family. Never had a bad service here. Their habanero hot wings are the best. I've tried so many things on the menu it's hard to pick just one favorite. I would highly recommend this place. I am the type of person that does not like to go out and get basic breakfast items. I was intrigued by the two entrees on the seasonal breakfast menu and decided to go with the Birria omelet as it was more breakfastsy. The Birria was delicious and the omelet as a whole tasted similar to quesabirria. The consommé(Birria broth) was unfortunately cold, but had great flavor. The toast and potatoes were fillers. I was a fan of the diner cabin vibe it gave off and upon entrance was festively decorated for thanksgiving. Lastly, the service was a little slow for the amount of customers, but the staff made up for it by being very friendly. I was not wowed by anything, nor disappointed, but will give it another try at some point as many items on the menu looked delicious. read more

Mimi's Cafe provides a consistently favorable experience. Sometimes we just enjoy the unique ambiance and good food. On a recent weekend, it did not seem busy at first, but when we looked around, the cafe was bursting with patrons. On this particular day, Nadia was our server, and she did an outstanding job. We didn't see any supporting staff helping her cover six or more tables of diners, and her commitment to keep everyone happy was absolutely exemplary. read more

When people make reservations and show up a little early you should prioritize them for taking the time and not sit walk ins first. Then when you go past a persons reservation time and they ask how much longer you proceed to tell them. "I'm just waiting for some tables to open up and we can seat you in about 15 minutes" WHY IF WE TOOK THE TIME TO RESERVE A SEAT COULD WE NOT BE PUT IN FRONT OF A WALK UP!!??? My husband and I haven't been here in along time. We were seated in a crowed loud room with big parties of people. We both ordered the turkey with dressing and I ordered a salad. We sat and last time we were there we got a bread basket with butter while we wait. I guess they don't do that. My husband had to ask for my salad cause it still hadn't arrived. It was all trees lettuce with cut cucumber and tomato and a few croutons. It was warm and almost wilted no crunch. Meal came I ordered a baked potato instead of mash. It was not a ripe potato. My best friend & I came to Mimi's this morning. We were seated pretty promptly. Waitress was nice. Coffee hot. We placed our order and sat talking for about 25 mins, noticed the couple behind us came in WAY AFTER US (10-15mins) and had their food brought out within about 15 mins. Ours came out AFTER theirs AND the food was less than lukewarm, the pancakes were hard & cold AF. Butter didn't even melt. The bill for 2 was 63.00 and we were offered to have our food "re-heated" and a muffin for our troubles. The General manager asked if we would give them another opportunity & ask for her the next time and she will make sure our food is hot. Ma'am there will be no next time! My bestie and I decided on Breakfast, we contemplated whether we should go to Denny's, IHOP or Black Bear, we decided on Mimi's for Pancakes and I personally love the corn beef brisket hash. We ordered our food and waited almost 25 minutes while the couple that arrived 10-15 after us got their food before we did. When our food arrived everything was lukewarm and the pancakes were over cooked, the butter didn't even melt. Highly disappointed! Not sure who dropped the ball. We did ask for a total refund and it was granted. The manager did apologize and ask that we give them another chance. What we don't like are a few of the changes: the music used to suit the Resturant as it was French and sometimes now it is to loud; also a few of the French choices ( my favorites) have been removed from the menu. Mimi's Café is your classic choke-and-puke breakfast joint--you know the type: smells like syrup and burnt coffee, filled with retirees arguing about cholesterol meds and grandkids. And honestly? The food service was not too good. We went there and there wasn't any people. After we came in people started coming in. The waiter became alive. The reception was the not same when we came in. Ordered cheese burger on the brioche and it was sloppy. There was too much dressing. As you can see the excess dressing was on the edge of the plate. It brought to me with the dressing on the plate. I have always enjoyed eating at Mimi's café but sadly this is the one left standing I guess. It's a shame because the food has always been decent here but I guess not every business can escape the effects of a volatile economy. But at least this Mimi's is still here and I thouroughly enjoyed the pleasant experience I had here with my family today. We were seated promptly and our server Tracy came out a few minutes later. She was a pleasant and outstanding server but what was even more impressive about here is her great knowledge of Spanish which was so good she had no problem understanding what my family wanted to eat for lunch! My family was hungry and they all ordered the same thing but I was thirsty and just wanted to eat something sweet so I ordered dessert and a Strawberry lemonade. Tracy also suggested a mystery drink which turned out to be a Cranberry lemonade which was pretty epic. I love cranberries and I eat Craisins like crazy so this drink was definitely up my alley and between this and the tiramisú I ordered I knew I was going to go home happy. Sadly Tracy comes up to me a few minutes before serving dessert and SACRILEGE! There was no tiramisú available! I was bummed so I ordered the next best thing, a Molten Lava Cake, which turned out to be a worthy alternative. The cake was a good portion size, was drizzled with hot fudge and was served with vanilla ice cream, sliced strawberries, and whipped cream. What can I say about it? It was good and hit the spot! All in all I had a great day and a great time at Mimi's. The atmosphere and people there are great and I will definitely eat here again the next time I am in town! read more
