I came in for a manicure and pedicure and unfortunately had a very disappointing experience. While I was getting my toes done, a technician came over to begin removing my old acrylic nails. Without warning, he started clipping them off and then used an old artificial nail to pry the remaining acrylic from my natural nail. I was looking down at my phone when I suddenly felt intense pain. When I looked up, my natural nail had been cut open and was bleeding. The technician asked if I was scared. I told him, "No, I'm not scared, I'm in pain." I also explained that this was not the proper way to remove acrylic nails. Instead of stopping, he attempted to continue. At that point, I told him not to touch my nails and that they needed to be soaked off properly. As a licensed cosmetologist and salon owner, I understand professional sanitation and safety procedures. The way my nails were being removed was unacceptable and resulted in an injury. Another staff member eventually took over, but what disappointed me most was that no one apologized for hurting me or acknowledged what had happened. Accidents can happen, but professionalism, concern for the client, and accountability matter. Unfortunately, I did not receive any of those things during my visit. read more

I was recommended Amy at Mimi's nails from 2 of my coworkers, I had an appointment at 10:30 and they were very prompt on getting me seated and in the chair ready for my pedicure! They had an excellent choice of colors, but ultimately I chose a classic gel french pedicure. Amy got me started in the bowl and gave me a menu of their services with prices listed clearly, I chose the Deluxe Spa Pedicure for $50, it included scrub, massage, hot rocks, and warm towels. Honestly this pedicure was so relaxing and I highly recommend getting the Deluxe as an extra little treat for less than $20 more than the basic spa pedicure!! Amy had amazing attention to detail and would ask me periodically if I liked the nail shape, or french design etc. She did an amazing job and having tried many salons in Modesto including some chains, I can confidently say this is the best pedicure I've had in a very long time! People don't give attention to detail anymore, but Amy was fantastic and took her time, and still had me out in under an hr! They were upfront in their pricing and in total I paid $72 for the Deluxe Pedicure, Gel polish, French Nail art. They do accept card as payment, but only accept tips in cash and don't have an ATM so be aware of that. I highly recommend Mimi's Nails and especially Amy for pedicures. This is hard for me because I've been coming here for a while now and I'm sad to say the sanitation (at least for manicures) has gone down by a lot. No gloves were worn, the guy was using his grown nails to take a clump of paint off of the brush. The tools used on me to remove my cuticles were not clean and I'm pretty sure they reuse them without sanitizing them. On top of that the guy looked annoyed when I asked if he could fix my crooked nail . After all the bad experience I had they charged me $70 for a simple French tip. And I have a feeling the guy was lying to me because I asked for the original price and he hesitated and said $60. I've been here half a dozen times and have never felt slightly disappointed. She always makes good suggestions for me- she's careful and really wants your nails to look amazing. My nails were were $60. I do love them they look exactly how I wanted. Long took his time to perfect each nail shape which I really appreciate. I believe sets are $50 with gel and pink and whites are supposed to be $55. I had a previous set that needed to be taken off so I didn't question the price. On the menu it says French tips are $7... I'm thinking because it's a "v" shape not too sure. along that note my white is painted and not white acrylic but they do look good. He originally told me $65, so just some price confusion. Always be sure to ask first I learned at any nail salon. The nails are perfect and my second set and the first one didn't even lift. Pricey but definitely getting your moneys worth. Not sure for super artsy sets but definitely provide a good quality set. Pedicure with gel is $45 and a regular is $30. I thought $15 extra for gel was a bit steep. I was cut multiple times and the lady who did my nails didn't file my toe nails but the skin because she wasn't paying attention and was watching the TV. This place is super underrated. This is the best place in the modesto area to get your nails done hands down. I have tried going other places every now and again because I'll go with a friend to their regular spot but nothing compares to mimis. My grandma and I have come here for years. They always make sure you are happy with the job they did and have no problem fixing it if you are not completely satisfied. So this was my first time coming here and let me tell you if will DEFINITELY be my last. First off let me tell you when I got there for my pedicure I said I just wanted a polish change and she looked at me all weird so I just caved in and got a pedicure. Second I notice when I put my feet in the water is was wayyy too hot and there was no towel where I rest my feet. Third she rushed it so fast, granted I went with three other girl friends but I didn't expect to be rushed !! She literally stabbed at my cuticles so bad it hurt like she did all ten toes in a matter of 5 seconds no joke. Sorry but I'm paying 22 dollars for this damn pedicure and you're going to rush through it like that?! Last but not least she only did one coat of polish on my toes and then left me with the first towel under my feet to work on my friends pedicure next me. WEARING THE SAME GLOVES. I wish I could say this is the end but it's not. To top it all off the lady left her gloves on assisting other people and touches thing as well as DIGGING IN HER FUCKING EAR. Like this was probably by far the worst experience I've ever had. At the end I found out that I still had dead skin and blisters on the bottom of my foot so that's cool. I went to Mimi's yesterday for nail and spa treatment. I was surprised how lax they were concerning COVID. Employees wore masks, but I heard an employee tell a patron she did not have to wear a mask. There were shields up at the nail stations but nothing at the spa chairs. All the patrons at the spa chairs were mask less. As much as I love this place, I will be looking for a safer place to have my nails done. They were not as friendly as before COVID and when I was a little picky about how the nails were polished, the gentleman sat there as complained. Hey, I was the one paying for service. Went to Nails by David. They took my temperature when I walked in, made sure I sanitized my hands, had shields up at nail stations as well as spa chairs. They would not touch my credit card to protect themselves from transferring any virus. I guess that is why I was so surprised about Mimi's and how they proceeded during these trying times. read more

I went In for a shellac manicure & pedicure. They do the pedicure first & then proceed to start on my manicure. I tell the guy that I want a shellac manicure w/an overlay & he said ok & he took the old shellac off & then proceeds to add the acrylic but I asked him to soak my nails & clean my cuticles & he said it wasn't necessary but I insisted & asked him if he could again but he refuses and i ask him again, I tell him I will pay for it & he begins to say how I didn't need it & that he would just continue w/the nails & I again say, that I would like for him do it& when he refused again, I told him, "why won't you do it, Im asking you to & im willing to pay for it" & he just looks at me and says nothing, so then I tell him I won't be needing the manicure any more & that I would just like to pay for my pedicure & be on my way. He tells me Another tech (who already has a customer) will do my nails. Basically I'm supposed to keep waiting as if my time is NOTHING. It is so hard to find a good nail salon that's consistent, patient, and pays attention to detail, and I finally found it. I used to live in the bay and I was 7 years faithful to my old manicurist and salon, and now I finally found my new spot. Before I got there I made a appointment and 5 minutes before my appointment they called to make sure I arrived. From the moment I walked in everything was great. I was instantly greeted. I had a appointment with Hillary and I booked with her from her pictures posted on here. From the moment I sat down, Hillary was patient, gentle, and payed close attention to detail. She did everything I asked and more. I can't be more pleased with her work, and you can tell from the pictures that she had extraordinary work.
