i live in the valley. that's pretty far from hermosa. but i have been going to the same stylist for YEARS! when she announced she was leaving the valley and going to hermosa, it was only natural that i follow her. i don't trust my hair to anyone else but bel. i was loyal to her while she was in the valley, and i'm still with her today, even though it takes some time to see her now- bel is worth it! i also love the friendly salon, every one seems pretty cheerful there. oh, and they sell wonderful candles that i usually stock up on when i'm visiting bel. i encourage everyone try out mimosa, you are sure to be a loyal client after one visit. ~J read more

I followed Brittany here from the El Segundo Aveda because I LOVE HER! she is an amazing esthetician. She also gives really good massage when she gives skin treatments. The products here are "emminence" and I truly liked them better than the Aveda products she used to use. The room is a little small, but you don't notice that when you are on your back with your eyes closed. The salon is nice, close to me, close to HB pier and the beach... parking was fine during the holidays when you get free metered parking from the City. I was told you can also park in the back alley. I bought some eye cream here that was discounted 50% and super swank... LOVE IT! overall, the quality of service and the atmosphere were great! i will definitely be coming back here as often as I can for a facial and maybe even a haircut :) read more

I booked an evening appointment at Mimosa on a friend's recommendation because my hair desperately needed some TLC. I wasn't sure what to expect, but was stoked to have been able to get in at 7pm after work and was pleasantly greeted by my stylist who took some time to get to know my likes and dislikes about hair styles before tending to my hair, which had been painfully neglected for the past four months. She spent the next hour giving me the hair therapy I needed and graciously offered styling tips and bang maintenance when it was all over. Will definitely revisit Mimosa for my next haircut and recommend it to my friends! The only downer might be finding parking on Pier Ave and making sure you have cash on hand for tipping. read more

I followed Lauralai here to Mimosa from Parlour Salon. She's been my go-to girl from day one. I had been dyeing my hair black at home for years, and wanted to make the switch to my natural brown. I came in for a brazillian and eyebrow waxing. I didn't receive the 50% off on the brazilian wax for first time clients which was what initially drew my attention but nonetheless was pleased with the service. So I ended up paying $62 plus tip, which is kind of steep for these services in my opinion. It was my first time getting a braziliian and Brittany was great. After paying I realized they offer 3 brazillian waxes for $99 so I wish they would have offered me this when I was paying, especially since it would ensure future service from me. read more

I have recently moved back to California and was searching for a place to get my eyebrows done. Here is some background info about me. I am deathly afraid of getting my eyebrows done. Eyebrows are a huge part of your appearance. Going to the wrong person can result in you looking awful till the hair grows out. Bad haircut? No biggie. Just put it in a ponytail or bun. Bad eyebrows? You are screwed. So you can see my hesitation here. I don't cheap out on eyebrows either. I am too scared to go to those places that charge $7 and do a cookie cutter kind of job. Julie was great. She could sense that I was scared. The trembling gave it away. She did a great job and kept the length and thickness of my eyebrows. I no longer look like oscar the grouch and have found my new place in LA. I paid $17, which I think is totally worth it. Tips are only in cash fyi. read more

I moved from San Diego to the Southbay about a year ago, and continue to kick myself for not driving to SD when I need a haircut. I tried Mimosa in hopes they could compare to Hyde Edwards. The staff was friendly overall, accommodating, and the products they used were great (I love Kerestase). I came for the 50% off first-time-client color and added a cut - really a "dusting". The stylist did a good job, and I enjoyed talking to her through the processing. The haircut was fine, and quick, and what I needed so overall I was still satisfied with the service until I went to pay the bill. It would have been helpful to tell clients (esp first time clients, who tell you when booking they are first time) that they only take cash tips, and all parking is metered. It takes a salon from being "dialed" to average by not entirely covering bases with your clients. So despite having to run to the ATM, and having to fill me meter twice during service (with highlights in full effect walking down the street) - I would still have rated Mimosa a little higher. What put me over the edge is being charged $65.00 for a dusting. I do have long hair, so had I asked to do anything more than a dusting I would gladly pay. Just skimming for split ends though, is a different story, especially when I'm already paying for color - ultimately if you're going to charge $100 plus for a highlight, a mere dusting should be included (seeing as it took maybe 3 minutes of her time) . I did not feel this was the stylists fault, but rather seemed to be something of policy? Overall, there was nothing in the experience that made the salon stand out or make me want to book again. I personally felt it was way overpriced for the average-level of service/experience I had, and will be making the commute to SD every 6 weeks. read more

My hair is red. Not the easiest color to work with. I wash my hair every other day, so the color faint sooner than later. I was in a deperate need of finding somebody who can cut and color my hair the right way. 2-3 years ago somebody refered me to Mimosa. The first couple of cuts were nice everyhting I wanted. After the 4th or 5th time everything went downhill. There were no new ideas, same cut, even do I asked for different style, or something new etc. Finally I decided to leave them. Before last Xmas I had to go back and redo my color. I was busy (everybody is before the holidays) and going back the 2nd time was just a wasting my time. I have to be fair. They did not charge me for it. That is why I gave them 3 stars. I wanted to find somebody who is resonable, up to the minute, listens to the customer and able to renew him/herself. read more

Shellac manicure was great! Fausta (I think) was awesome - great attention to detail. Regular price for a shellac manicure is $45 but they had a half off special if you selected a Christmas color!! Score!! Only complaint is that the manicure chairs weren't super comfortable and the pedicure chairs aren't spa chairs (I didn't get a pedicure though). ok so, this review is long overdue and been in the making for quite some time now. the reason being, it's things just keep getting better and better so it's taken this long to really collect all my thoughts and everything I want to say about mimosa salon. there's no attribute that's better than the other so ill start with one miracle and work to the next. waxing. ill admit it, I've been doing my own "Brazilians" for years. if I'm honest, I never wanted to pay for something I thought I could do myself. big misconception. the first time I went to Brittany it was like magic. instant God opened the clouds and turned on the light-bulb in brain for me. her quickness, cleanliness, professionalism, and most importantly ouchlessness completely blew me away( and left me wondering why i ever attempted this by myself).... the following hours(literally HOURS) I couldn't quit confessing my love and utter inflation with Brittany's work. I've been a loyal client ever since. insert moment when Brittany was gone and I had a major last minute need/panic of not having my wax girl: behold... Gina to the rescue. just as brilliant. extremely knowledgeable. and one of the best parts was she recognized Brittany was my go-to, never once tried to "steal" me from her(you'd be surprised in some of the salon/spas) but always reassured me she's there if Brittany was unavailable. so A+++ for two amazing waxers and A+++ for teamwork but wait! I'm not finished. it gets ridiculously better. I recently went through a rough stage all do to the negative effects of birth control hormones. after getting the bc removed(after a month of mental insanity) i was still left with a face I wasn't used to. break outs. patches of dryness. red and splotchy areas. needless to say I freaked out. after everything that had happened feeling like I was stuck with terrible skin for the rest of my life(or even a couple more weeks) was complete devastation. I ran to mimosa hoping for a cure but kept my hopes at a bare minimum. holy cow was I in for a blessing. they prescribed me the Epicurian Clarity Cleanser and Eminence Organic Skin Care: Clear Skin Probiotic Moisturizer. i purchased, took home, and immediately used. within the next couple of days i had called back in to tell the tale of a miracle. within just one use all my problem areas were drastically improved. it took less than a week of proper use and i kid not, swear up and down, promise on my life my face was back to normal. thanks mimosa for everything you do to keep us all kept and beautiful! read more

I got my hair cut here a few weeks ago. I dropped in because my usual hair stylist, Chris just moved here from the Londonder. I don't have much experience with salons but I liked the atmosphere here more than at the previous salon. Everything is very clean and bright without being cold. Very relaxing. Chris is really great for me because I'm not a hair person and never know what to ask for other than "layers". He always knows exactly what to do to make my hair look great in a way that is flattering to myself aesthetically but also personality/lifestyle-wise. He's also done my sisters' hair and both times he's managed to give them the exact cut that just perfectly suits them. On top of it he's a great guy and genuinely very caring and we always have a wonderful time catching up. The other staff seemed really nice as well, everyone was very friendly and helpful! Honestly, You don't know what you've got until its too late. I decided to do a TRADE with another hairstylist at a different salon for color & cut services and boy, what a mistake that was. I guess you get what pay for ! Free hair color ? I might as well just have committed hair suicide. I ended up having to cut 6 inches off of my beautiful blonde hair that Jessica grew out for me five years ago from a short sassy cut. Her expertise and passion for blondes is obvious and abundantly clear especially now that I have blotchy base colour that is brassy and highlights that fried my beautiful locks off in a chemical catastrophe at a different (aveda) salon. In hindsight, I can now say what I truly knew all along. Jessica at Mimosa cares for your hair. She takes extra time to plan her mixing and formulas as well as highly knowledgeable about the perfect bright blonde colour. The products she uses are the most moisturizing & gentle color lines. Jessica keeps your hair healthy and goes for integrity first rather than just over highlighting you and overprocessing. She goes the extra mile to gloss you or tone you and schedules you according to your hair needs not just a typical quick color visit. Jessica has been doing my hair for over 6 years and I highly recommend her expertise and colorist background. I was referred by a friend/coworker to come to this place. So I was like let me try out this place that my friend has been raving about! So per my friend reviews I booked my appointment with aria the morning of! When I got there aria greeted me nicely and asked what I needed to get done.. How much I wanted to cut and if there was anything else that she needed to know before she started cutting my hair! My hair is super long.. Down to my waist! so obviously I wasn't planning on chopping it all off... Came in to get a trim and wanted to thin out my bangs a little! So she took me in the back and shampoo/conditioned my hair! Everything was going great.. My hair trim was coming out amazing and she even gave me a blow out which looked really nice on my super long hair! But when she "thinned out my bangs" she cut a bunch off! I clearly told her in the beginning to not touch the length.. Jus thin it out because my hair is super thick. Not only did she thin my bangs out but she shorten the length too and I wasn't happy about it at all! I asked her why she didn't use thinning scissors and used a regular haircut scissor instead and she claimed that it will ripped the hair out more! But every time I got my bangs thin that's what all the other stylist used! The middle portion of my bangs were super short compared to the other sides! It was easy for her to say "I'm sorry"! But I did not come all the way to leave with such disappointment! Now my bangs look completely crappy! I certainly won't be coming back here for sure!!!! but for others...if u want to try her jus make sure that you are careful with your bangs! Especially if you like your bangs a lot!!! I was really nice about the whole situation... I believe one of the people that work there even saw how I wasn't happy about this situation! I Paid the $75 for the trim and tipped my stylist as well! I don't believe in being rude.. There wasn't anything she could do to make it any better! Brittney is the "BEST" brazen waxer. I have gotten them before but never like this. She is fast and doesn't miss a hair with the hard wax, no strips which is almost painless.
