Virgil and his wife put on a great spread for catering services. We've enjoyed their food the past couple of years four our club's annual event and will have them come in again this year, Yum! They provide a great menu to choose from and the food is always hot and delicious; plenty of it as well. I understand they have a place on base, but have not had the opportunity to try it out, yet. Was looking for somewhere to get a quick bite to eat on base and with the new Popeyes opening up literally right next door, Mine Train Smokery's very short line appealed to me. This was my first time eating here and I'm not the biggest connoisseur for BBQ but I'm able to recognize and appreciate good BBQ when it's in front of me. First let me start off by saying the customer service was amazing. The young lady working the register helped me tremendously with any questions I had about the menu. It's a small little pocket in the MCX with limited seating, but comfortable, and the rustic aesthetic is comforting as well. Food was quick to come out which was appreciated but brings me to my next point, the actual food. Mac n Cheese bowl with Tri Tip was good, but just that, there is nothing crazy or exciting going on. Not sure how that two would've faired on their own but together it was tasty and tangy. However would not convince me to come back here again. The same could be said about the beans. They weren't too salted which to me is a plus because they do have condiments on the side so customers can season to their liking. Lastly the cornbread.... Man were my hopes high when I opened up that box. (Keep in mind I dined in so I could truly taste everything fresh). The cornbread was everything but fresh. It was extremely dry and somehow really bland for what looked like was going to be the best part of the meal. It needs serious adjustments. Originally was going to give this place 4 stars but I wouldn't be doing anyone justice if I lied about how I felt about the cornbread... damn. Overall, I'm not mad about the experience, it did what I intended on it doing after a long morning with no food which was fill me up. A bit on the pricier side. This place his so much potential but their sides are terrible. The mac and cheese sauce has separated and I don't even know what is going on with their coleslaw. It does not resemble any coleslaw I have ever had. I think their mashed potatoes are ok which is the 2nd star. I hope they make some upgrades to their food. They charge a lot of money (2 sandwiches and 2 small small sides is $35+) so I won't go back until I hear the sides have improved. read more

My wife, 2 daughters and I just got back from eating some BBQ at Mine Train Smokery's pop-up at the VFW in Joshua Tree, and it was delicious! I had a BBQ Sundae, which was a huge cup layered with pulled pork, BBQ sauce, mashed taters, and mac/cheese. PHENOMENAL. My wife had the pulled pork sammich, and she said it was great. I wish I had taken a picture of the BBQ sundae I ordered! It was absolutely delicious! Picture a Starbucks cup filled with brisket, Mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, and pulled pork. Mix in a generous portion of BBQ sauce, top it with a few pickles and cornbread hockey puck and it was a recipe for success. The lady at the register was very nice and explained what the menu items were well. While I waited on my food to be prepared I heard her helping other customers and made sure they knew what they were getting and what was included in their combos. First, their food come frozen. It is an important point that they fail to make in the Facebook postings. You will not get a hot meal delivered. The rack of ribs has a nice smoke ring, however, the smoke was bitter due to being over-smoked. There is supposed to be a rub on the ribs but there is not one visible other than a little bit of pepper. The pulled pork was decent. The BBQ chicken was shredded chicken in a dish with a watery ketchup sauce poured over it. The smoked mac n cheese tasted like a cheap store brand that had been put in a smoker. Not much taste to it at all. All in all, it was an expensive frozen dinner. Bright side, they deliver. **Updated** Regarding your reply, Virgil.... I dont know what calling you back to our house to tell you that your food didn't taste good would have accomplished? Thank you for the offer of 25% off but we will pass. And it would be helpful in your posts that you post on Facebook boards that the food is frozen. I see it is listed on your menu that you include as an image attachment. My husband and I both did NOT see it listed in the actual post. My husband made the order at night and you didn't tell him it would be coming frozen till the next day when you were ready to deliver. Okay JT visitors .. instead of waiting in line for any big named restaurant ( u know which I mean) ,give a shot to this little food stall .. I tried my first Gold Digger bowl .. ( Bowl with layers of BBQ pulled pork ,Mac n cheese, beef/pork again and then mashed potatoes with corn bread.. U won't be disappointed.. we picked up our drinks from a joint next door and got our food in less than 10 mins .. Great place ! read more

I heard about this place on Facebook and decided to give it a try. Order process was simple enough once you get in contact by email. I ordered a full rack of ribs and smoked mac and cheese with the toaster corn biscuits. The ribs were not fall of the bone, and slightly pink on the inside, so not overdone and plenty of juicy meat. I actually had to change my delivery date, so it was very kind of them to hold my order for a few days. I ate on the ribs for 3 meals! I tried without sauce (as they come with a rub) and they were fantastic. I eventually tried my favorite off-the-shelf sauces just to mix it up and everything was great. I'm generally not a huge fan of mac and cheese, but the smoked flavor made it something special. The corn biscuits were on the sweet side, which is not traditional corn bread, so set aside that expectation. They were delicious, but being originally from Arkansas, I have yet to find what I call REAL corn bread. Yes, I realize it's not INTENDED to be corn bread, but would be nice to have the option on the menu. read more

Found them at the farmers market in 29 and gave the chopped chicken a try and was immediately hooked upon the first bite. Since then I have tried to bacon wrapped pork loin and the pulled pork! This is perfect for working families who want to sit down to a home cooked meal at the end of the day. I just popped everything in the oven using the instructions and it all came out perfectly. I got the ribs, gouda stuffed pork loin, and mac n cheese. The meats were delicious! The mac n cheese was a little bland but I spruced it up with a little extra cheese and chopped parsley. The price was good for all of the food we got and their customer service was spot on. Im excited to try their different corn breads with my next order.
