I always loved to visit all the Ace Hardware's when I go out of town. They had a great yeti selection, which is always the first thing I look for but also enjoyed looking at the plants. I called to determine if this store carries a paste flux. I had to call 3x, was put on hold a total of 15+ minutes. Their plumming person said he didn't know anything about flux. Wowza. It took some serious insistence on my part to finally get someone on the phone who knew where to look and could give me an answer. Which was normally we do but we're out, maybe I can get some "on the truck", but who knows. With retail stores so poorly staffed, it's no wonder Amazon is crushing them. I have no sympathy. Ace has been, well, "ace" in helping me with my home improvement projects. While their inventory is not as expansive as the other big box stores in the area, they usually have what I need, and if not, I can order online and they are able to get it shipped to the store for pickup rather quickly. Every time I go into the store, I'm promptly greeted and staff are available to answer my very specific questions. They are quick to provide support, and just today, Joel was helpful in returning two of my items when I didn't have the printed receipts, as well as replacing an incorrect item that I needed ASAP while my electrician was in the middle of a project. Prices may sometimes be minimally higher than big box stores, but it's the customer service and attention to detail that has me going to Ace for my ongoing list of projects. read more

I really like coming here because they have good products and employees. I bought a portable AC from here a couple year back, and it was cheaper and worked way better than the one I bought from amazon (amazon's ac had a higher BTU). That portable AC I bought from Miners fell in the parking lot, and an employee helped me put it into my car, yet it still worked better than the amazon one. Recently I came here after looking at other places for wiring my car's electrical. I couldn't find the size I needed and when I had questions about wiring my car, the employee provided the information I needed and also gave me a little extra wiring in case I messed up. I always checkout hardware stores whenever I move somewhere. My mother was a do-it-yourself person and taught me so much. Before she passed away we could spend the better part of a day just walking around one of many we had back home. I recently moved to Santa Barbara and I asked my daughter about hardware stores and she suggested Miner's. My mother would have loved it as much as I did. The store was clean and well laid out but the thing that impressed me the most was the genuinely nice people. I was asked by almost every person there if they could help me find anything. It wasn't the obligatory line you get sometimes, they were engaging and friendly. I have lived in many places large and small and have never felt more welcome and truly at home as I did today. By reading these reviews I was honestly a little surprised seeing the ones saying that the staff was rude. When I went in here yesterday I was surprised because the staff was super genuine and sweet. I asked where the boxes are for moving and the staff was super nice trying to help me find some in the back. The store was also really neatly organized and they had enough employees on in every area so it wasn't impossible to find someone to answer my question. LARGE, WELL-STOCKED, HELPFUL EMPLOYEES: I'm so glad that "Miner's" took over this store. They have readily available, helpful employees who will seek you out to offer assurance. That's so refreshing in today's society, don't you think? Their store is huge, and we'll-stocked. It's just a wee bit confusing to find certain items, which logically should be in other aisles. Never fear, an associate is always near! The store is immaculately clean and their outdoor gardening section is a bit of an oasis with fountains, plants, pots, soil and other Knick knacks. They have multiple checkers available, so wait times are small. However, as I find myself now temporarily handicapped due to a foot issue, I've become sensitive to the little things that matter to those who are injured or debilitated; Specifically, I kindly ask that this lovely store please rethink their checkout line, which forces its customers to walk way down into the store and then u-turn to join a single file line for checkout that then funnels to the multiple checkout stands. That was really painful for my foot issue, and I just think it would be really lovely and kind of you to get rid of this weird "funnel" line or else create a handicapped checkout station close to the front so people like myself won't have to walk so far and stand so long to go through a communal line. That is really the only reason I give this lovely hardware store 4-stars, versus 5. Parking is plentiful and the hours are long for this part of Goleta. When you walk into Miner's Ace, it feels like you're walking into the modern day hardware store you've always dreamed of when it comes to efficiency, organization, selection, and expertise. When it comes to customer service, it feels like you've walked into a tiny town's only hardware store that your grandparents always told you about. I bought a BBQ online at ACE, that was supposed to be delivered on Friday. When it was 6p on Friday, I called, and had Steve, the manager on call that evening. He was thorough, reliable, and did everything to make my experience more than 'make up' for an error that wasn't even his, nor the store's - but the online system's. In short, he, along with Nick - the gentleman who cam out TWICE to deliver the BBQ - ensured I was "made right," with the actual BBQ, natural gas hook-up, and even the installation, which culminated in Steve coming out AFTER his shift was done to do the installation personally. Talk about going above and beyond the call of duty. What an epic store and group of folks who run and work this place. read more

Similar to home repair businesses (plumbers, pest control, locksmiths, etc), we often forget to review businesses like hardware stores. Unlike some other nearby competitors (clears throat...Home Depot), I always find Miner's in Goleta to have helpful, available staff. Their prices do appear to be slightly higher, yet I would rather pay a bit more in exchange for good service. My one of various examples was when I was a rat trap newbie! They are also good about exchanging items (i.e. wrong light bulb, battery, etc). Keep your eyes open for their seasonal and occasional sales and discounts. read more

Been coming here for years before it was Miner's. I was told by one of the staff that were unable to recycle florescent light bulbs here because we had too many. We had maybe 10 lights about 3ft in length. We purchased the replacements here and have never been told this or had an issue recycling them ever before. We were told that it was unfair to the other customers who might also be recycling and that they were just a "mom and pop" shop. Give me a break. Another staff had zero issue with the recycling and gladly took them in from us. They even said they were glad we had come back to bring back the old ones so they were properly disposed of. read more

Couldn't have asked for a better store to replace Orchard Supply Hardware. Goleta has a need for a smaller-scale hardware store and that's exactly what OSH had offered - large selection but personable enough to feel like more of a neighborhood shop than a big box. The vibe has remained largely the same ever since Miner's opened up. This store benefited from OSH's recent remodel and the layout is nearly identical which I enjoy. Prices are a bit higher than the prior tenant, but the selection is excellent and the premises are clean. I enjoy the friendliness of the floor staff and admire their willingness to help. My favorite section is the nursery. It's large and full of fresh greenery. I've bought a handful of plants for my garden from here and all have thrived well. Nice addition to Goleta. All the staff was friendly and helpful. The spacious floor layout works well and is not too cluttered. They have a nice variety of products that you don't see in other corporate chains. Sherry and Patty have both made my wife and I happy with their suggestions about succulents and butterfly flowers. Perhaps I have lived in LA too long, but I had the opportunity to visit Minor's Ace Hardware a few years back while visiting the area and was blown away by the courteous staff in that store. Since I am often in the Santa Barbara area, I now perform ALL of my hardware shopping needs with them. Case in point: I was there to pick up a sale item from their anniversery sale and had the great pleasure of encountering Austin who was completely awesome and helpful and good natured and of course, Shane who is just a super human being and has always been so, as I have encountered him on visits before. In an age when there is generally NO customer service and horrendous attitudes, I always look forward to my visits there as there are excellent and cheerful faces to engage with for your needs, which makes getting your things done with the least amount of stress possible. I spent about a half an hour in their paint department yesterday, and again today. I'm refinishing some furniture and really could have used some help. Not a single person approached me to see if they could help me. But yet there were three employees having a great old time joking around at the paint desk. One of the items I was looking for was tack cloth, And when I asked an employee where I could find it, they said they never heard of it. Luckily, I later found it on my own because it was on a clip strip. Additionally, I was also shopping in the drip irrigation section, same thing not one single employee asked if they could help me. Ace hardware is supposed to have the "helpful hardware folks", So I don't even know how Miner's can carry their name! The lines were very long at the registers as well. Lack of customer service, standing around employees, and long wait times do not bode well for a good review. If I didn't know any better, I would have thought I was at Home Depot! read more

It's nice to see that a hardware store has opened in Osh's place, and it's nice that someone is able to sell Osh's old stock as well as offer more. I feel like there's a good selection, especially with some of the items that other stores don't carry, but I also worry that in some departments (like irrigation) that they're just selling off the old Osh stock without replenishing anything of their own. I've purchased the last of certain irrigation parts here and haven't seen them come back into stock for over a month. That could be due to the pandemic, too, but I'm not too sure. It'll be interesting to see what happens to this store after the pandemic is over. read more

I went to Miner's Ace to purchase a Benjamin Moore paint sample. It took over 15 minutes to get any help sent to the department. The gentleman wasn't too pleased with waiting on me and took his time filling my request. What he gave me as a sample, was a quart of paint. To my surprise, it cost me $10.06 for my paint sample. I choose to not return to Miner's for my paint job and instead went to the local big box store. The paint samples are approximately $5.00 and each of my 5 visits for paint and supplies were aided by different salespeople who were knowledgeable/helpful. read more

The quality of a business is mostly based on its service. For a retail store, it is how they handle inevitable returns. The employees at this store always appear friendly and helpful when trying to sell. How about returns? Recently I bought a power tool and discovered that it was defective. I brought it back for a refund. There was damage to the packaging. The clerk called a manager. I showed him the defects. Upon seeing the torn cardboard box, the manager became grumpy and said "I can't sell this any more." Suddenly I saw the reason why there were so many defective merchandise on their shelves. I almost wanted to ask the owner: "Do you always try to sell defective products returned by customers?" Stay away from this store, no matter how friendly the salespeople appear. read more
