Miner's Ace Hardware and Nursery was always a great place to spend an hour contemplating what I would add to my garden. This Miner's Ace really features the nursery more than the hardware store. This season they have even reduced prices so that they are competitive with some of the big box stores. They had a whole section of Christmas trees in the back aa well as poinsettias. I decided that seed packets would make nice very small gifts for some secret Santa friends and Ace has a huge selection very reasonably priced from about three dollars to six dollars. I also scouted out some more Protea plants that I could add to the growing collection in my yard. They remind me of northern California and they're mostly grown in Monterey Bay, but they do very well here. They were also having some hardware and nursery items on double clearance so it was well worth checking out the side aisles for these sales read more

Ordered 2 outdoor chairs from Ace online for pickup at this stop off Santa Barbara Ave in SLO. One was out of the bag, got it to car to discover it's used, faded material and all scratched up paint on. Got "manager" Alex, she copped an attitude with us for being upset. I just love me a non-Big Box Store (Lowe's/Home Depot). Manly duties, that's my job. Wait, did I commit some type of microaggression, or sexist? If so, I'm so sorry. Why not the big guys (or ladies or people)? When you need selection, big stuff, commercial. Yep, when I need a regular thing or two, I'm coming here. It's a little more pricey, but OMG, you can be in/out in minutes. Let me count the ways: ====================== 1. It's tremendously organized. 2. Had an AWESOME morning at Miner's today taking advantage of the huge 20% sale! I came yesterday and Barb showed me some of the gorgeous new Thai Constellation Monsteras that came in which I've been looking for in SLO for months! I came back this morning to buy one (amongst tons of other plants) and before I checked out, Jessica kindly showed me that she had one with even better variegation that had been on hold, but was left, and I was able to switch mine out for an even better one! I had stopped at this location a few months back on my way home from golfing in Morro Bay. I needed some items not available at Home Depot and found them here. While there, I noticed their extensive display of patio furniture. Fast forward a few months, my wife and I decided to furnish our deck at our second home in Cambria. So yesterday afternoon we drove to this Miner's Hardware location to see what was available. We found a nice selection of choices and price ranges. I pointed one set out to my wife that I liked and surprisingly, she liked it too. I found Annie who was very helpful and, despite being near the end of her shift, made sure our purchase and delivery needs were addressed by Ray. When we inquired about a storage box for the cushions, Annie put us in touch with Jane who was equally helpful. Jane completed our order and let us know about the 8 percent savings that day on our order. That was great added to the wonderful service we received while there. Our five piece set of furniture will be delivered Wednesday afternoon and we're looking forward to relaxing on our deck in style. While I do like the large succulent selection here, some of the service from management here was not friendly near closing time. There was a rush, "you are bothering us" feel to it, which is at odds with all the other Miners in SLO County. While SLO-town is not exactly the big city, at the very least one would expect at least the same friendly service at a big box store, like HD. Why pay a premium for someone being rude to you? Spontaneous service was also totally lacking and no one helped me even after looking for an hour at plants. It was slow and not busy at all. Some of the prices for pots were way out of line, even as so-called specials. While I may go here for succulents in the future, I will defer all other purchases for the other Miner's locations, True Value, or even HD...such as soil. It is odd that one can even find a place that one would partially want to boycott in the SLO area [which in general has at least decent to great service]. Hopefully, the owner can look into some of the workplace conditions and improve customer service. It could be that I am spoiled by the many super nice staff at the other Miners locations in AG, Grover, and even Los Osos/ Morro Bay...not to mention HD in SLO & Atascadero, and the True Value or even OSH in AG. If I am going to pay more than HD, the premium should go for good, friendly, and knowledgeable service. If one is looking for a good succulent selection plus great service, the Miners in AG is the best in their chain, and the True Value in AG/Pismo is quite wonderful. Sometimes the big city attitude visits some places in SLO-town in some chains, but management should know better. It is not like tourists go to local hardware stores, so who knows what this is about? It could have been a really off day for all I know...but a new sort of review from low to high seems to show a consistent pattern of [poor service related] customer complaints & issues with management for the past few years...which is simply sad for our area. In general, I think many of us would appreciate all people at least acting more friendly toward each other. Poor service by some employees really ruins the workplace for the good employees, since the bar is so low. In any case, I did find a nice assortment of succulents here, but I felt a bit like a sucker for shopping here....since all other plant-carrying places had better service, including HD, not to mention specialty nurseries, farmers markets, farm stands, and such. read more

I really like Miner's, and while prices are a little higher, the level of friendly service more than makes up for it. This is my go-to for garden and home DIY. I've been here for big bags of bark for my yard, and they always seem thrilled to load it into my car. I've bought tools, paint, pavers, and every single time, the person who helped me acted like I was doing them a favor by asking for help. The cashiers are also really nice, and once when I was trying to figure out a coupon, the person was super nice, instead of getting irritated. MIner's is a fantastic store for hardware & related items, lumber & building materials, and a great indoor & outdoor garden department. All the employees are very friendly and can tell you exactly where an item is located. Many of the associates can also advise how best to use an item. The prices are a little bit higher than major chains, but one cannot usually get this level of assistance in a big box store. They have frequent store-wide sales such as 20% off, or anything-one-can-fit-in-a-bag sales. Definitely join their rewards program to receive special savings & coupons. read more

I believe they have the largest specialty Hardware (screws/bolts/nuts) section in the Central Coast. First review: I came in to get a truck key made. Was told the person who does chip keys is on lunch. So I came back the next day, was told no one was on staff today who can make chip keys. He apologized and said they will CALL when someone is there to confirm. So this morning at 9am i gat a call from Miners. Come on in they say, we're here and can make your key. I have always loved coming into this store with my grandpa as a kid and getting free popcorn. I will not be visiting this store anymore. I brought my son in with me in his stroller and placed cleaner in the cup holder spot. Went to the Biddle section by the register to get carpet solution. A worker named Lori grabbed the cleaner from my cup holder and told the girl to ring it in. Like I was going to steal it. I always have a pleasant experience at Miners. I get the best customer service. the latest experience was not pleasant. I had thoroughly checked plants all over in the garden center and I guess got some tree buds stuck in my hair. The young man checking me out let me know I had things on my face/hair. I said yes I was really checking plants but I don't care because I'm going home. He wouldn't let it go and pointed at me 2 times saying you have things on you. I wish I could give this location of Miner's 100 stars. I needed a very specific grate, which was nearly impossible to find. However, the word impossible is not in the floor manager David, nor the store manager Ray's vocabulary. They did the impossible- they went above and beyond to make sure I left the store with the exact item I needed! Ray and David went above and beyond my expectations to ensure that I was happy. The thing I love about Miner's is they not only have a great unique selection, but the staff to back up the product. What a great place to find just what you need to make your backyard a place you love! We were looking for a fountain as a centerpiece, but wanted something different than the standard "little boy peeing" or a boring bird bath. Michael took the time to listen to our needs, then suggested a super cool fountain that kind of looks like 3 tetris pieces. It has a great sound too! Michael suggested a float valve that keeps the water level at the proper height, and we scheduled a delivery. They showed up right on time, Blare, Mark and Ray got the thing up to our backyard (a trick in itself), set it up and made sure it was level, filled it up and made sure everything worked before taking off (even cleaning up the fountain). Their attention to detail will keep them in business long after the big box home stores fade away. read more
