We tried this place on the recommendation from a friend. They should fire the cook! What appears to be a nice local neighborhood pub bar/eatery is definitely the former, but not the latter. Did I mention they should fire the cook...What we liked. Had a nice neighborhood feel and generous seating area. Cozy feel. Good selection of draft beer, but as others have noticed there is no beer menu on the tables. What would it take to prepare a beer menu per table. I suspect they manage their beer distributor poorly. The distributor should be preparing this to move product. Also of note..they were tapped on both of the premier beers. It was a Tuesday. You typically get alcohol deliveries on Mondays! The food. Absolutely the worst meal we've had in recent memory. Really, they should have been ashamed to put out what appeared in front of us. Hey, its a neighborhood institution, I get it. I'm not expecting 5 star but really, put some effort into what you put out. I had the chicken, rigatoni and broccoli. The broccoli came in the form of unidentifiable micro shavings. (Probably to save costs) The chicken was so tough(overcooked or old) its texture was like rubber. We also had the boneless chicken wings with parmesan topping. I can only describe them as tiny fried rubber knots in garlic. So bad I couldn't finish more than 1. We also had the hamburger. When you can't get a hamburger right, you know the cook has problems. Think stale roll, and burned hockey puck. Sautéed Onions..barely recognizable. Shoestring fries were also undercooked. Net, net we ordered 3 things. All were bad. Positives - Our server was great, however having to deal with he entire room. I really felt for her. She had a smile on. The bar environment looked fun and again had a cozy feel to it. Had we not gone in with the expectation to eat big.... things might have been better. All in all..68$ for two beers and bad food. Its a great location with really good potential. First time here. It was a Sunday afternoon and the place was nearly empty except for 5 or 6 people at the bar. This was great in my opinion as I had my family which includes two kids age 4 and under. Fantastic food and fantastic service! This unassuming restaurant sitting all by itself is the best-kept secret in the area. The chef does amazing work. Love the tacos! The beer selection is superior to most in the area. And the waitstaff could not be friendlier. Don't forget to try their desserts: the chimichangas and the salted caramel cheesecake in particular are wonderful, and I'm not even a dessert person. Atmosphere: Very attractive, lots of hardwood. There are TVs over the bar so it's good for sports fans, but this is no sports bar. The volume is low enough that it doesn't overwhelm the conversation at the table. Met up here for a quick drink and some apps. Seemed like a nice atmosphere and the staff was very attentive. Ordered the pretzels which were okay.. pretty similar to Auntie Annes. I hadn't been to NJB in a while and went with my father...our experience was awful. First we got the cauliflower apps, which were good. Both of us enjoyed them. Probably the best part of the evening lol. Second, my dad's meal was messed up, he asked for blue cheese on his burger but did not get it. They did accommodate him and brought him some on the side and said he wouldn't be charged for it which was true but instead we were charged for bacon, which again my father did not order. They happily fixed the bill and I say they because we had two waitresses which I think made things more confusing. A few other things: they need to have a craft beer menu...at every table. I'm confused as why they have so many craft beers but yet only advertise a few. The only way to see them is to ask which you'll then get the full list on a clipboard. I don't get why there is one for the whole restaurant? doesn't make sense. I initially ordered a pumpkin cider thinking that was the only seasonal/pumpkin style beer they had since it was on the chalkboard...fast forward to my dad ordering another beer, trying to ask our waitress what they have and she offers if he wanted to see the full list. I was so annoyed. So then comes dessert, which again why only write it in the corner of the restaurant? I'd also advise if desserts are drizzled with any specialty syrups, please note that on the chalkboard because of allergies... I ordered the pizzelles and mousse for it to come out drizzled in raspberry syrup. We had to send it back. I've been going to the NJ Bar and Grill for a few years now and they are hands down one of the best around. One of the greatest qualities a restaurant can have is consistency. The food in the menu is consistently delicious. There is something for everyone. My friends and I have never had a bad meal here. The craft beer menu consistently has a great selection and caters to many tastes. The staff is always friendly. Wednesday night is taco night and trivia night... What a great combination! We had our Christmas party at NJBAG yesterday. Everyone is still talking about the great time we had and how nice the place was. We had the joint to ourselves (34 people) so our boisterous Secret/Robber Santa activities did not bother anyone. The staff was very accommodating, the food was fresh and tasty. We had a buffet and everything ran swimmingly. The beer drinkers among us were impressed with the draft beer selection. Sure beats the usual places we've been for parties. read more

Didn't have a great experience this time, decided to roll the dice on one of their "specials", called a "stacked chicken" What I received was a small chicken cutlet with some prosciutto and melted mozz with marinara and a side of mashed potatoes. The chicken was dry and the marinara was a pretty weak sauce. But the thing that really put me on the ledge was the price- $17.99. Also the burger we ordered was overly charred. There is one glaring huge issue...the place smells like sewage depending on where you sit. It's clearly a big and ongoing issue that management needs to fix asap. Lastly, there is no loyalty when it comes to it's customers who come week after week. Would it kill you to buy a round for a table of 5 guys who come every week for trivia and spend a lot every week? Just walked out of this place after one round of drinks and way too long of a wait for any other sort of service. Like, 15 minutes. Don't worry, we left cash for the round on the table. My boyfriend and I found this restaurant on Yelp and decided to give it try. The place itself is kind of run down. We sat at the bar and each ordered a drink. My rum and diet was all syrup. The drink was basically black. After 10 mins the bartender asked for our orders and when I asked for a burger, she informed me they don't have any burgers that night. 1. How does a pub not have burgers? And 2. Why not tell us at that when handing us the menus? I ended up not ordering any food. When we called back to inform them of the mistake the manager called back to offer us either a new meal or a gift card for the inconvenience. This was my third time here, staff is always friendly and haven't had to wait for a table yet. The first time visiting happened to be a trivia night and our waitress was pretty busy so the bartender noticed and checked up on us which was nice. They all seem to work together and help out when needed. Brook seated us and would also come over to check up and make conversation. The other times I have been there he has made some great recommendations, especially for dessert. The salted caramel cheesecake (not the biggest cheesecake fan) and smores ravioli were both great. I have had the calamari and avocado dip/guan and tasted a friends boneless wing. I usually prefer bone in wings since boneless can be a lot of breading, but these were different and will definitely order them next time. Burgers are good, they have some different specials and presentation is nice. I recommend stopping by and trying this place out, it is in a residential area so don't drive too fast or you may miss it. read more

What a great find! So many places are overdone. Fancy woodwork, ornate furnishings, over priced drinks, average food. Do you really need that when you go out for a few drinks or something to eat with friends? The staff is friendly, they'll suggested a drink or an appetizer, great craft beer. The food is good, better than bar grub and it's at a fair price. When you first pull up the worrying begins, it looks like a house on the street but when you walk in the front door, you might see families with kids, a nice bar, plenty of TVs. Try something on the specials, I think that's all I ever eat from, you won't be disappointed. Chicken chips are a great appetizer, the portions are good sized. I had seen this restaurant positively reviewed on our town's Facebook page. After dining there twice now, I feel it's important to point out just how fabulous this hidden gem is. We were greeted at the door by Chef Eric, who is personable, humble and proud (as he should be). It's not a fancy place, but it's very comfortable, with plenty of room for families, parties of 2 or those just looking to hang at the bar. They have rotating craft beers; most of which are excellent. This isn't your typical bar and grill. It's something way beyond that. I'd call it more gourmet, which is exactly what you wouldn't expect until you see the menu. There is a menu of a variety of tacos, from which you can order 2 for $9 or 3 for $12. I sampled the brisket taco and sea bass taco. They were outstanding. The menu also has a variety of burgers, all of which are creative and perfectly cooked. If you're looking for something more, the variety of entrees will not disappoint. Prices are as reasonable as you can get based on the quality of the meal you'll enjoy. It's the kind of place I'll return to often, and not become tired of the menu selections. Service was friendly and timely, but not rushed. I've been extremely happy with my two visits. The only reason I am giving this place 2 stars is because the food is actually good but service is horrible. I am not leaving this review after one bad experience either. A few months ago it took 1 hour to get an appetizer and then another hour to get entrees, which was a salad and burger. Last night it took 1 hour for 2 burgers, mind you the place was empty when we walked in. Tables that walked in after us got served their entrees before us. One table was even two burgers also. I understand oversights happen however our waitress never apologized or even offered an appetizer or bread or anything to make up for it. I am not one to complain at an establishment or tip badly because of these things because I understand how hard everyone works however after two bad experiences I believe NJBAGS has some stepping up to do. read more

We needed a place for a quick lunch in the area so we tried this place because the ratings were good. We came in at 2:30pm week day and had to check if place was open since there was only two cars in lot. I ordered a turkey club on Texas toast. What I received was a regular sandwich on 2 slices of regular toast. My wife ordered their asparagus mixed salad with chicken. They came back and said if they could sub broccoli for asparagus. On top of this coffee refills are charged at full price, $3.50/cup as i found out at the end. If you use a credit card , which they endorse with signs all over, you will pay an additional percentage of 2.89% of your bill. $38.49 is crazy for a sandwich and a asparagus salad without asparagus ; coffee and ice tea. The bar maid was tending bar and also our server but she was nice. Not her fault. Won't be coming back. SORRY. PS It was asparagus season too. read more
