We were pleasantly impressed by this in-park dining venue. Located in the Tower-Roosevelt area, this dining room is reminiscent of the Eagle Tavern in Greenfield Village (Dearborn, MI) -historic yet well-maintained and charming. A large front porch was populated by rocking chairs affording a fantastic view of the surrounding mountains. The dining room windows appeared to be original (wavy glass) and were able to swing open (casement-style) bringing on a lovely breeze on a July afternoon. Upon entry, the area to the left is a lounge bar with leather sofas and chairs for joining in front of a stone fireplace. Bar seating is also ample and likely not open until dinner time. To the right are tables and another fireplace. Our waiter -Cranston- was welcoming and efficient. We enjoyed the brisket chili, wood smoked chicken wings, bison patty-melt and trout. The food was well-prepared and delivered to our table piping hot. Beer and wine are available but with an afternoon of hiking ahead of us, we could not indulge. We arrived a few minutes before they opened and there was already a line. We were given a pager and told we'd have a 10 minute wait. This was accurate. We were seated, greeted and given water and told our server would be with us shortly. She was. We both ordered the Pitmaster salad which was $22.95. We had no idea the salad would be so large. One could have fed us both. The smoked turkey was tender, moist and flavorful but paled in comparison to the tasty smoked brisket. It was so delicious. The service was terrific and we enjoyed our meal. We would return if we are ever in the area again. read more

We loved our stay at the Roosevelt Lodge Cabins! If you're looking for that quintessential Old West vibe, this is your place. We reserved one of the Roughrider cabins, which is their cheapest offering. Not sure quite what to expect, we did know that it had a double bed, wood stove, and shared bathrooms. The old cabin was very sweet and the decor was just perfect for the setting. I was delighted to find a bedside lamp with a USB plug; a nice amenity for the modern traveler to recharge their phone after a day of taking photos. Although small, we had enough room to bring in essentials from the car and still have space to move around comfortably. As was standard in our lodging here, linens were fresh and clean, as was the cabin itself. Another thing I appreciated was the inclusion of a desk. At the end of a long day, I love sitting to journal my thoughts or review itinerary for the next day...a blissful thing to do in the quiet evening with a cozy fire. I will tell you that these have virtually no insulation, so get comfortable using that wood stove and don't be afraid to ask for more fuel and firestarters at the desk. The floors are creaky and the walls thin enough that I could hear other folks if they were walking close, but no walls are shared with other cabins. The shared bathrooms here were nearby and clean, although the shower spaces here are small and only two available. We did eat an early dinner at the Roosevelt Lodge dining room before heading out to spot wildlife in Lamar Valley that evening. I had the bison chili, while my boyfriend had the bison burger. Both were good and definitely seemed above the grade of the "cafeteria food" described at other eateries in the park. It wasn't a gourmet meal, but it wasn't Applebee's. Service was friendly and expedient. Aside from the dining room, we also stopped in the small gift shop. They have a lot of the general merchandise, but a bit more stuff with focus on Lamar Valley and the area there. I would absolutely recommend this place to friends, as long as they were okay with the rustic aspects. We thought it was all part of the charm. The only reason I would upgrade on a future trip is to get a larger bed...we're very spoiled and a double seemed a little cramped for us. read more

Cool log cabin built in 1920 and named for Theodore Roosevelt. It is located between Mammoth Hot Springs and Lamar Valley. Many explorers and Indians camped in tents in this area back in the day. The smaller lodges and cabins were built later as more visitors started to come. There is a large corral to the side that offers horseback riding, wagon rides, and an Old West Cookout. Roosevelt Lodge has a dining room area that is open for lunch and dinner and a large porch out front with rocking chairs. It's a great spot to take in the scenic views of the surrounding area. I stopped in to use the restroom and enjoyed reading about the history of this place. During my Old West cookout, they served us Roosevelt Beans with our steak. These beans are pretty famous and are made here at the lodge. I found them delicious and was able to get a recipe to make them at home. Roosevelt Beans Ingredients: 1 pound ground beef 1/2 pound bacon, cut into 1/2 pieces 1 onion, diced 1 (16 ounce) can pork and beans 1 (12 ounce) can kidney beans 1 (12 ounce can) lima beans 1 (12 ounce can) butter beans 1/2 cup brown sugar 2 tablespoons cider vinegar 1 tablespoon mustard 1/2 cup ketchup Salt and pepper to taste Preheat the oven to 325 degrees In a frying pan, brown the ground beef and bacon. Drain the fat. Add the onions and sauté until soft. Stir in all the different cans of beans, brown sugar, vinegar, mustard, ketchup and salt and pepper. The drive from West Gate to the intersection leading to Lamar Valley was quite long. Add in the 2 hours from Idaho Falls to the park entrance itself, it was lunchtime by the time we got there so headed into Roosevelt Lodge for lunch. What I found weird was even though the dining room was not full (about 2/3), there was a 30 minute wait as they staggered the seating to ensure the staff isn't overwhelmed. I would think they would ensure that it is fully staffed to accommodate a full dining room since they get enough patronage. We tried to make the best of it by enjoying the rocking chairs outside but I did notice that as the wait times got longer, people ended up leaving. Once seated, it took another 15 minutes before anyone came by to take our order but luckily the wait for the food was only 15 minutes. The bison tamales were way too mushy and the mashed potatoes and corn and bean side was tasteless. The saving grace was my husband's chicken sandwich with huckleberry BBQ sauce which was actually pretty good. Food options in this area is limited which might be why they can get away with it but you might be better off packing a sammie before heading to Lamar. read more

The food was great, we had the wings, bison burger, bbq ribs and bison bratwurst. Waiters were nice and friendly. Everything was perfect until the end of the meal-- we found a piece of aluminum foil in the mashed potato underneath the bison bratwurst. We were so disgusted that we forgot to take a picture of that. The manager reacted quickly. She took the bratwurst along with the bbq ribs off the bill, and offered us free dessert and food. We turned her down because we were too disgusted to eat any more food coming out of that kitchen. Roosevelt Lodge review 1 Grand Loop Rd, Yellowstone National Park, WY 82190 Lodgings here, are most people's focus. My intent is to review the restaurant. I'm not one to often think that a setting can so impress me that it makes my review of the food become suspect. I have to say this is one setting it could. Roosevelt lodge is identified on the Google map and a couple other maps I think incorrectly in the wrong spot. I could be mistaken but it doesn't happen very often. Sooo...I'd definitely check the forest service map. Baah, let me do it. Sure enough, Google has it misplaced it three different and WRONG places in the database. Can't trust a liberal/ progressive multinational Democrat donating company like Google to map correctly. To the contrary of Google's map, the Roosevelt Lodge is not near Mammoth or even randomly placed on a cliff side farther south, but at the junction of the NE Entrance Road and Grand Loop Road @ Tower Junction between the Petrified Tree and Tower Falls. I know this is fly over country to the elitist Google multi-millionaires in their earth destroying Gulfstream G5s winging Al Gore and other leading liberal/ progressives buddies all over the globe, but please, it's a national forest. I'm sure you might employ one competent person from the Midwest or even Wyoming who could place the pin on the right place on the map. Sitting on the porch waiting for your reservation to be called at the Roosevelt lodge is one of the serenest waits you'll ever enjoy. The Lodge restaurant is spacious with large table and decent sized chairs. Think Ahwahnee 1/4 sized but with big sky not the ill-conceived location of Ahwahnee. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are actually high quality food served well by the college boys and girls who "man" the lodge for its short season. The fare is simply served basics with nod towards cowboy and Mexican dishes. My favorite is the Huevos Rancheros and stealing the pecan sticky bun off Meg's Continental Breakfast. The wine menu is mostly California. If you search "Roosevelt lodge menu pdf" you can see the actual fare. (Searching "Yellowstone pdf" will also give you an accurate map of Yellowstone too.) After your meal sitting on the porch of Roosevelt Lodge can put the most hyperactive person at ease. I suggest an adult beverage, tea or a cigar. The only interruptions you will have in the park's peace are the wealthy rich democrats liberal/ progressives flying over you from NY to SF and back. Meanwhile they are using 4.3x their weight in oil-based gas, destroying the ozone and pumping out the equivalent of .95 tons of carbon which has the warming effect or 2.9 kg. It takes 135 trees one year to remove that carbon for each way of the trip. When was the last time you planted 135 trees? But relax when was the last time the liberal/ progressives were right about anything... that cigar will make it seem as dim as the 777 at 30,000 feet fading away. Now to find my fly-rod... read more

Dinning room: Decent enough, food is managed by a larger company so the "tastes" seem similar at all the park locations. This menu was more "beefy" or should I say "buffaloly" than the others, not many choices for the non-beef/buffalo crowd, seriously where's the chicken? While the Mrs. opted for the blackbean taco salad, yes a taco salad in the middle of Buffalo country, she informed me it was the best she has ever had, and that's saying a lot. The rustic-ish interior of the lodge restaurant, which is also the check in desk, small gift shop and large fireplace sitting area, was nice and comfy, if you get a window seat in the restaurant, views are limited to what's just outside or whoever is sitting on the porch. It's a quiet location, food was okay, server was slow but I think that was more the kitchens fault than anything else. Has a small general store just across the parking lot if you are in direr need of the basics, like booze...lol.... I didn't like the white-knuckle drive to get here, we stayed in West Yellowstone so we had to drive over the pass to get here, but the views were amazing. This valley is suppose to have the most variety of animals to view, sadly the only thing we saw was the horses hitched to the camp wagon.... Due to visitors leaving their common sense at the entry gate, we had to develop a plan to avoid problems. What problems? Cars stopping on a dime blocking the road, people RUN across the road without concern for their personal safety. Parents allow their young kids to get out of their vehicle to get closer to the WILD animals. I will not write about the rental motor homes with driver's who drove a Honda Civic yesterday.:) We started leaving our Hotel by 6AM to avoid those people. Usually we communted about 45 minutes to the areas we visited. Then we would break for BREAKFAST! On 06/21/2012 we had breakfast at Roosevelt Lodge Dining Room and ordered from a menu. We ordered two Hiker's Special-2 eggs cooked to order, bacon, hash brown and toast with on coffee @ $20.24-no tax. It took a short time for our breakfast to be cooked to order. It arrived as ordered and hot temperature wise. The Lodge has clean restrooms. There were no issues that we could note at this location. After breakfast, we returned to our hotel for our morning showers, etc. We did have some traffic jams on the drive back to the Hotel. We headed to Roosevelt Lodge for dinner partway through our week long trip at Yellowstone. The wait time was about 40 minutes for our group of five, but they take names, hand you a buzzer and you can wait out on the front porch, which is lined with rocking chairs and has a lovely view of the mountains. Service inside was a little slow, but once our order was taken, it was very smooth. Our waitress was very nice and accommodating. The cornbread muffins were great and everyone enjoyed their meals. We had a range of entrees, including catfish, ribs, elk empanadas, elk burgers, and more. There was a wide variety of options, so if you weren't super adventurous, there was something to eat here. The flavor for Roosevelt is a bit Mexican with some BBQ thrown in. Nice option - especially when we'd been camping/cooking all week on our own! read more

I am writing about the whole place, resturant and lodging. Starting in the resturant, there is plenty of room in both the seating area and the open area. I would come in here sore and beaten after a day hiking around the park, and order a drink before dinner, sit by the fireplace and simply relax with the other visitors. the fireplace is an excellent place to gather tips on what to do and what to avoid around the park. Dinner was always good. For a resturant in the middle of a national park I have no complaints. the staff was friendly and attentive, the atmospher was quiet, and the views from window seats was amazing. The lodging was fun, but a bit rough, which is what I wanted and expected in a park experience. The cabins are small, just two full beds, a small writing desk, and a wood stove. Each day the staff refills a bucket in your room that has pressed wood chips that you burn through the night to stay warm. I was there at the end of August start of September so it was COLD. Those chips did not last long and by about midnight my hands were going numb and I could see my breath. The sleeping bag helped, but wow. I highly recommed a visit to the lodge general store to buy a cord of pine wood to burn. it lasts much longer, and though you will have to getup through the night to rekindle the fire, you will stay much warmer, and thus better rested. The bathroom is just like the camp bathroom from childhood. A short walk from any of the cabins, but bring a flash light, there is no other lighting outside the cabins, and there are animals around that I did not want to sneak up on. I loved my stay here, and would gladly return for another visit, though I might do so in July. read more

I've always been an outdoorsy girl. Camping, hiking, whitewater rafting, kayaking. I love it all! So when I finally had the opportunity to visit the majestic Yellowstone National Park, I will thrilled. Especially since I was a big Yogi Bear fan as a girl. My husband and I scheduled to camp at various sites throughout the park, but after an absolutely exhausting day of hiking and the discovery of Roosevelt Lodge & Cabins, we spontaneously decided to stay there to forgo another night of setting up our tent. Ugh! I had been seeking an authentic "old-west" experience on this particular trip, and Roosevelt Lodge & Cabins certainly looked like it would grant me that opportunity. Named for Theodore Roosevelt who frequented the park and lodge, the facility is set on a picturesque prairie, with corral operation, overlooking the mountains. Additionally, stagecoach rides and old-west cookouts are offered. The cute log cabins we stayed in didn't have restrooms or running water, but they were certainly luxurious after having camped on the hard ground for 4 days. The one amenity the cabins did have (besides a bed) was a fireplace, adding even more to the cabin's delightful rustic appeal. We knew that the Roosevelt Lodge served breakfast, lunch, and dinner in a family dining style, but I never dreamed they would have the best dessert in Wyoming. I mean, we were out in the middle of nowhere surrounded by buffalo and coyotes. Was such a thing possible? Yes it was! After another day packed with hiking, biking, and wildlife watching, we headed to the Roosevelt Lodge bar with the intent of getting a nice hot (alcoholic) beverage to relax. I adored the log cabin interior, complete with several stone fireplaces and wildlife art. This cozy place was just what I needed to relax. But when I saw the Yellow Caldera on the dessert menu, I knew my night just got a little bit better. The description read: A warm chocolate truffle tarte with a molten middle I couldn't possibly turn that down! Would you? We settled next to an enormous roaring fire in the bar/lounge area, across from the dining area, delighting that we were the only ones there. Yellowstone was truly a magical place and the Roosevelt Lodge only added to that magic with its warm scents, soft lighting, and remote location. As I sipped my Irish coffee, my Yellowstone Caldera dessert arrived in no time. Molten desserts are one of my favorites because they're always very rich and chocolatey. I wasn't quite sure what to expect this time around, but given that nearly all of the food I'd had in the park had been subpar, I wasn't anticipating much. I love being proved wrong! As I plunged my spoon into the center, a sea of black chocolate molten oozed out. Yum! The name was certainly fitting. I scooped up an equal amount of soft molten and the chocolate cake component and took a bite. The chemistry between the two textures and the intensely chocolately flavors were simply divine. I especially loved that the center cake was a little gooey (like brownie batter). Every morsel melted in my mouth and was impossibly rich and delicious, only adding to the already perfect ambiance. If you're lucky enough to visit Yellowstone National Park, be sure to make a pit-stop at the Roosevelt Lodge near Mammoth Springs (by the North entrance). Even if you can't stay the night, the Yellowstone Caldera dessert is definitely worth the trip. It's no wonder why I deem this dessert the best in Wyoming. If you are spending the day exploring Yellowstone, and your home base is in the West, East, or South sides of the park, you should consider eating here for dinner. The atmosphere is rustic-like. What I mean is that you have modern amenities, but the 'feel' is rustic. It has a great, laid back, lodge feel to it, with two big fireplaces in the main building, and the dining area is very comfortable. See the Lumar valley during the twilight times (you're likely to see a lot of bison) and then come here for dinner. Our waitress was very nice, the food was really good (we had bison burgers and then huckleberry apple cobbler a la mode with huckleberry ice cream) Yum! The prices were reasonable given that you're eating inside the park, and the kids all enjoyed themselves. Afterwards, you could grab a glass of wine and go sit on one of the rocking chairs outside the lodge and watch the sunset over the Lumar valley. We stopped in here for lunch because we were sick of pb&j picnics. We should have just stuck with the pb&j! We were quoted a 45 minute wait, but it was probably more like 30 minutes. There's a general store to peruse while you wait or rocking chairs to relax in on the porch. The wait staff was friendly enough, when we'd see them. Service was unbelievably slow. Our drinks ran out and we never did get refills. We finally got our meals and they were pretty tasteless. However, the kids meals were large portions. This happened several months back, but here goes: I wasn't personally affected by this, but interesting to note: The wait time was super long because the staff can't get their act together; there were numerous waiting patrons AND empty seats and nobody could get around to clean them and get new customers in. Just appalling. While we were waiting, there were two customers who both ordered take-outs; one was South Asian and the other was white. The white customer's food came out first, but the staff didn't make it clear who it belonged to. The Indian man took the food, paid, and left. When the white man took his box, he looked inside and realised that the food wasn't his. He told the staff that there was a mixup and they offered to make another box for free. He started to eat out of the box because he was hungry - perfectly normal. Seeing that he was standing in the waiting area, the staff offered him an electronic buzzer that they use and let him wait outside. The Indian man came back five minutes later, saying that there was a mixup. The staff *took the box from him* while offering to make another box of food. That's where the niceties ended. There was no offering of the buzzer, no offering to eat the food that he didn't order. The Indian man stood there as the white man received his second lunch. He continued to wait, but alas, his food was not to come. He left, obviously annoyed. Shocking double-standards and treatment of different races. By a supposedly-multi-cultural team. We stayed in this area and had the restaurant been good we would have eaten here several times, unfortunately it was borderline awful. Fried chicken dinner was $16.50 for three small pieces of chicken that were so overdone they were chewy. Side salad was plain, mashed potatoes and gravy both seemed to be instant. Ribs were fine, but happy we only ordered 4. They are certainly not smoked bbq ribs, they were likely boiled. They were the best part of the meal along with mediocre slaw. The 'famous' Roosevelt beans were average at best. Wild game chili would have been pretty good but it was not even close to hot. Server gave us our check before I was even half way through my dinner. So I read many posts about how this was the best restaurant Yellowstone and decided to go there with the family. The service was fine, the help was very polite. But the food was less than impressive. I was hoping for a good selection of game to choose from and this was straight from sysco foods or any other restaurant supply company. Brought in frozen, heated and thrown on a plate. We walked up the hill after riding horses at the Roosevelt Corral. We were starved. The parking lot at the lodge was full so we parked down the hill at a pullout. No problem. The wait was an hour due to the busy time of day. Since it would've taken at least that long to find somewhere else, we decided to stay. There is a porch with rockers out front to pass the time. Our wait didn't seem too long and we were seated by friendly staff. I ordered the Wisconsin Cheese steak and my husband ordered the Angus burger. We were served a generous portion! I was pleasantly surprised since as we were being led to our table I overheard a patron complain to her server that there should've been more. My cheesesteak was a little dry and short on cheese. But the peppers and onions were fresh and had some snap. A little yellow mustard took care of the dryness. Our waitress, Ava, was friendly and engaging. After eating at the Lake lodge the previous evening, my expectations were low. The Lake lodge food was mediocre and expensive. The Roosevelt lodge's real hit was pricing. Food was less expensive than the Lake Lodge but still resort prices. read more

We didn't stay at the Lodge, just ate lunch there. Great atmosphere, wonderful food! My husband had the bison burger and loved it. I had the smoked trout, really really good! read more

We enjoyed the food and atmosphere. This place seemed a hidden little gem inside the crazy populated world of Yellowstone. We had no wait for dinner, and the food was delicious. The Wyoming Cheese Steak was delicious; likewise, the Chili was great too. Sitting on the balcony on the rocking chair was a treat! read more

Bye far my favorite place to eat on our whole Yellowstone trip! We ordered the ribs, bison tamales and farm raised trout. The trout was really delicious and the rib meat fell off the bone. The portions are very generous. Also, drink wise you should get a Montana mule. The outside area has nice rocking chairs to the Lamar valley. read more

We enjoyed an unplanned visit to Roosevelt Lodge for lunch during a day trip at Yellowstone. It was about 11:30 am and we missed the lunch crowd and were seated right away by a friendly host. The menu had some good selections though I was disappointed that trout wasn't available as a lunch option outside of tacos. I ended up getting a bison burger as a bit of sweet revenge after being stuck behind a herd for an hour and a half on the road earlier that day! An old Klingon proverb says that revenge is a dish best served cold. My wife's Wyoming cheese steak had those honors as the marble rye bun was ice to the touch. Accompanying our sandwiches were a delicious apple cole slaw and those amazing Rosie beans -- YUM! We were worried that my vegan daughter would be on the bench with a menu that so proudly featured game, but the helpful waitress pointed out the taco salad with the vegetarian black bean chili. It was as big as my head and perfect for our picky eater, though she confided if we had been behind those bison five minutes longer she would have joined me with a bison burger. read more
