I had my very first shoot with the best, Ming! He is such a great photographer and an awesome person to work with. Not only did we just shoot but he taught me the basics of modeling, poses, and the industry. As a beginner, I've learned so much. We did two different looks and I'm very satisfied with how they turned out! Overall, I am very happy that I had my first shooting experience with Ming. I'll be looking forward to shooting more with him in the future!

Ming is the ultimate professional. We engaged him to do a photoshoot under expectedly challenging situation---windy, foggy and maybe slightly raining. Not only was he able to deliver. He delivered touched up photos faster than we expected. We also appreciate the fact he did a site visit a couple of days before. He spent quality time collaborating with our small team to develop a shoot schedule ahead of time. He ended up delivering more shots than we anticipated. We can't be more grateful and can't compliment him enough. We plan to continue to engage Ming every chance we get. Can't go wrong with a talented, multi-disciplinary pro like Ming! Just take a look at these gorgeous pix he took. Don't you wish he were your photographer?

    Digitals with Ming!

I would always get frustrated and go back to auto. Hector and this perfect mix of theoretical and practical application has made me feel so much more confident and I am finally shooting how I always wanted to. I will warn, you do need to do the homework and make sure you stay engaged in the class, as it is a long day, but if you do; it pays off. Hector has a great way of connecting with each student and addressing their needs. Do yourself a favor and book now!

I travel a lot and love taking pictures of landscapes during my travels. I have long thought about getting my feet wet in the real world of photography. It was an intimidating thought but I was honestly tired with the limitations of a phone camera, so I finally bit the bullet. A friend of my husband's suggested purchasing a Sony Alpha 6000 as a good "starter" camera, so I did. Only problem was, I had no freaking clue how to use it. Cue Hector and his class. I did some research and found Hector. I live in Ontario, so I was hoping to attend a class closer to home (he offers classes in Redlands and Temecula) but it was difficult getting the required amount of attendees to commit. I was tired of waiting, so I went to the San Pedro class. From start to finish, Hector was incredibly professional and responsible. His frequent communication will put the most anxious person's mind at ease. I let him know the equipment I was working with and he told me what I would need for the class. He didn't take payment from us until he received confirmation from the minimum amount of students (I believe it's five) - and he confirms and reconfirms just to be sure. Yes, there's homework. And if you want to get the most out of the class, you will do it and take it seriously. Hector does his best to cover just about everything under the sun regarding your new camera. You will come out learning so much information, and if you haven't done your homework, you may feel a little lost. Plus, you'll hold everybody else back, so don't be that guy. I had a basic knowledge of the things Hector went over because I taught some of it myself by watching youtube videos and practicing. He does provide you with videos to watch on your own prior to to the class. Watch them! They really help you get a better understanding of how to work your camera. The class itself was jam packed with information. He provided us each with our very own binder with all the information we covered. A great reference tool for later when you find yourself forgetting some things. We did countless exercises and Hector was great at checking in with us to make sure we were getting it all. I really had such a great time learning about my camera and really feel like my understanding of photography has increased a great deal. You certainly get more than your money's worth for this course. The day is long, so make sure to get some good rest the night before and come prepared. Be ready to have your mind blown with what your camera can do! Hector truly was an awesome teacher, and I couldn't have been happier with this workshop!

I've been thinking of taking the boot camp for a while, but decided to start slow with the "How to Shoot in Manual Mode Class." My only regret is that I waited so long. I tried using YouTube tutorials, reading articles, etc., but my pictures still weren't coming out anywhere near what I hoped. After this two hour class, my pictures have improved DRAMATICALLY. I'm so mad I waited 5 years to unlock the potential of my camera. I learned more in that two hours than the countless hours spent trying to learn on websites and tutorials. It's hands on, you can ask any question you want, you get to experiment, and they feed you! I mean, come on - snacks?! Sign me up! Kenneth was amazing. His energy was contagious, he was so knowledgeable, but he was able to teach in a way to make even the most photographically challenged students understand. His assistant Hector was so knowledgeable, too, and was available for questions. Per their recommendation, I'm going to practice every day and then sign up for more classes once it becomes more second nature. I cannot wait for my next experience here. Thank you, Creative Photo Academy, Kenneth, and Hector for the gift of creativity! Can't wait to see you again!

The images that are part of our family's legacy were brought back to life with such care and beauty. He takes his time, pours his heart and soul into every image, and you can feel how much he genuinely cares about the stories behind the photos. In a world where so much is done quickly with AI, he is one of the rare artists still doing this work with incredible skill, patience, and heart. There is something almost spiritual about walking into this place and trusting someone with your most precious family memories. This will be the only place I trust with our valuable family photos. I purchased "Take Your Camera Off Program Mode" back in 2014 when I lived in NY and received a message from Okello that he had to postpone to 2 weeks later because of a conflict with his schedule. I had a trip and was out of town on the date he was rescheduling for and I immediately responded making him aware. I attempted to email THREE times with no response. Even searched for a contact number to get a hold of him. All I wanted to do was reschedule for another date but got ZERO responses to anything. As a busy professional myself, I understand 100% that things slip through the cracks and emails pile up. But this was extremely disappointing because he kept my money and made no attempt to rectify the situation. Okello, I hope you find time to make things right.

Great Class, Exactly What I Needed!…read more I am transitioning from my basic point and shoot pocket camera to a new DSLR. I was completely new to DSLR cameras and needed to learn the basics. This 3 hour class was awesome! First off Okello Dunkley, the instructor/owner of DSLR Workshop is the actual person who teaches the class. After seeing his well put together website I thought he would be sending out an employee of his to teach the class since he has classes all over the US. That was NOT the case, he flies all over the US to different cities and teaches the class himself. Very Cool! He was very patient, thorough, gave a lot of hands on info during the class and allowed plenty of time for Q and A's. Bring your camera and a freshly charged battery to this 3 hour class! He goes over a lot of the different settings to help you achieve great pictures depending on the situation (indoor/outdoor, action shots/portraits and everything in between). He also talks about composition of your photos and how best to frame/balance your shots. He also covers different brand software's and their capabilities to edit your photos on your PC. The class I attended was at the Westin Hotel close to LAX. He came prepared with both Canon and Nikon DSLR's that he connected to the large video screen. As he changed settings on his camera, you would see it on the large video screen and duplicate them on your camera and then snap some picture, I had an Olympus micro 4/3rds and had NO problem following along. He also has a personal assistant that walks around the class helps you if you get stuck. This class is very hands on and I got soo much more out of it than the "photography for dummies" book I got from Barnes and Noble. I am sure the book will come in handy later on down the road, but this class being so hands on really got me up and running so much quicker! He also brings a laptop that he has connected to a secondary video monitor that has a slide show/presentation that covers everything he is teaching. Between the classroom handouts and video demonstrations, I would say this is a very well organized class! When you see his website you think its some large corporate company and its not, it's a smaller more personal hands on class with the owner. Way better IMO! What stands out most about this class is Okello's personality, without a doubt this man enjoys his work and it shows. His teaching style breaks things down in a very practical way so you can start taking better photos right after class. He stuck around after the class and answered everyone's questions. I would highly recommend this class and when Okello comes back to LA, I will be signing up for "Part 2" of this class.
