So, I found Joshua at Headshots LA almost 10 years ago when I first came to LA. I liked his portfolio and booked a session with him for my headshots. It was a great experience - I was a total beginner and didn't know anything about posing for headshots. He made me feel comfortable and brought the best out in me with helpful tips and a seamless experience. The headshots were fantastic and I uploaded them to all of my casting profiles. These headshots have booked me multiple speaking roles in short films (one that went to the LA County Film Festival), a Super Bowl commercial, and multiple major modeling gigs for brands like Pacifico and AT&T. They've gotten me literally hundreds of auditions and callbacks. Over the last 10 years, I got additional headshots done by two other photographers (I couldn't remember Josh's name and hadn't bookmarked it). I still preferred Josh's original headshots over the others and kept using them instead of the newer ones. Finally, it was time for new headshots. I'd aged about a decade since those original ones I was still running. I researched some options on Google and found a portfolio I really loved - Joshua M. Shelton. I booked a session (for a great price) for four looks. When I was sent his address, it started to sound familiar. When I got there and met him again, I realized it was the same photographer from my very first session! I'd found the same guy from my first headshots without even meaning to. Needless to say the second experience was just as great as the first. Joshua really takes his time and makes you feel comfortable. He has excellent tips from doing this for so long to really make you look your best. The shots exceeded my expectations. I'm stoked to have some new Joshua Shelton headshots to run. Being a photographer myself and having done several fashion photoshoots and videos shoots over the years with 14 hair stylists and 2 make up artists and numerous models for the hair salons I used to own, plus for my hair product company, I recognize very quickly if the photographer has "it" or not. Joshua has "it" for sure! He has been doing this for quite some time and you can tell. Joshua gives you great direction and really has the lighting down to an art form. He also makes you feel at ease when you arrive. Such a seamless, easy, and enjoyable experience! My husband needed an updated headshot for his executive promotion announcement. We had to book an appointment and receive final retouch copies within two weeks or less. I went online and was able to immediately book the 3 Looks/3 Retouches package. We then received a preparations checklist (read it carefully, it will help!) and were able to review an option of backgrounds prior to the shoot. Photoshoots are expensive, thus it's worth your time to read what people think. Unprofessional, unreliable, poor communicator. These are what pop up when I think of Joshua Shelton and Headshots LA. I explain with an example below. First of all, here are the required steps to book your appointment: 1. Book the time slot online 2. Pay for everything before you email him 3. Email him to confirm if your time is confirmed, because he also books others offline. I emailed him with examples a month ago to replicate a corporate headshot and he suggested to use the rooftop. Because I was uncomfortable with this deviation from my intention, I followed up requesting any recent corporate rooftop shots since none were posted. He never replied. Fast forward one month and after texting/emailing/voicemailing to remind him of the sample, he finally emailed me back but never replied with any samples. Instead, he said that rooftop headshots are not a normal request because those are for fashion shoots. But...I never really wanted that in the first place. Maybe he forgot what he said a month prior. I confirmed the time slot online, so I showed up during my two-hour slot and knocked once on the door. I waited about 3~5 minutes politely as he took his sweet time to turn off his TV and finally answer. He then said that someone else was coming within 30 minutes and he had too much work so he was too busy. No apologies. Strange how his time slots work. He has no regard for the amount of time and money people use to get ready for their shots--he's busy. Lucky for you, I've filtered down to the reliable and reputable Los Angeles photographers--here they are in no particular order: 1. Headshots Only Photography 2. Tedshots Photography 3. Joshua is THE best headshot photographer. This is the second time I've worked with him and he has a knack for capturing who you are, not just what color eyes/hair/skin you have. Joshua can do this because he is an artist and his art photography is frickin beautiful! If you have spare time ask to see some of it! The only reason I needed a second headshot session with Joshua is because my hair color changed from blonde to black, otherwise I would have been able to use my first set of photos for the next 10 years. Joshua spends the time and gives you the options with outside shoots vs studio shoots and fantastic backdrops like an aged linen looking wall that was specially commissioned out of NYC that makes your headshots look seriously high end. He never rushes you and he shows you the photos as he is taking them so you can tell him then and there if the vibe is what you are after. If it's not he will listen attentively and deliver what you want - so you know that you are going to walk away very happy! He plays whatever music you like to keep you comfortable and energized, and he has a water fountain which to me is important! Joshua never delivers a cookie cutter headshot like most of the other photographers in LA (ugh thats so 2002) - Joshua will use multiple of his many tricks to make sure you are lit to perfection and that your headshot has dimension. Before finding Joshua, I had shot with all the "top" photographers in LA and I ended up paying a lot more for headshots and looking like everyone else, which for casting purposes is no good. The process of booking with him is super easy. You just pay using the online system and email him for the time. Viola, done. His studio is huge with great natural light and also air conditioned to perfection. There's an open parking lot directly across the street from his building where you can self park all day for cheap. read more

This is my first time ever getting headshots. I was nervous and didn't know what to expect. I showed up, and was greeted by a very down to earth guy. He wasted no time chatting me up and making me feel more welcome in his space. As we started taking photos, he could tell I was nervous. He had me do funny faces and told jokes that made me laugh and helped me relax a bit in front of the camera. Conversation was easy, and I began telling him about my acting aspirations.
