You can tell how legit the place is because they use wood charcoal on top of the charcoal briquettes. This adds a unique smokey flavor that you can't get from just grilling on regular coal. The fire intensity is controlled by the knobs on the side of the grill. Steel sticks also allow the meat to be cooked more evenly. Each diner will receive a plate of premade seasoning mixture of chili powder, cumin seeds, coriander seeds, and sesame seeds. I can't believe I haven't reviewed this little gem until now! Probably didn't want it to get more crowded than it already gets sometimes but this place deserves to be raved about. Food is constantly delicious. Staff is not the most friendly, but polite and they always seem to be working hard. It's not fancy and definitely not suitable for vegans and those gluten free millennials as you can actually see msg crystals in some dishes. I still love this place, so sue me. I came here with my coworkers for dinner on a Friday night because we were craving kebabs. Honestly I've never been to a kebab-specializing restaurant, so it was a totally new experience for me. We ordered a whole bunch of lamb kebabs, beef kebabs, chicken kebabs, and gopchang (intestines) with a side of beer. The food was surprisingly good and we got to grill the meat ourselves (they grill it for us like 70% so we can grill it completely ourselves when ready to eat). The food was good and service was good. However, keep in mind that everyone is grilling meat so it was super hot inside and we were all sweating like pigs. Also, the water that was served wasn't as chilled as I usually experience in other restaurants. The beer was too watered down as well. I suggest coming here with a group of people and sharing a bunch of kebabs-- but come when it isn't too hot out! Great place to BBQ your own meat over coals. I liked that it was on metal skewers than wooden one so the meat just slide out easily. They have variety of meat options such as beef, lamb, pork, and etc. They also have additional seasonings on the side of the table so you can seasoned your meat they way you like them. This place is Yang Ji Chon in Korean and Ming Xing in Chinese. Same place, two different names. There are two floors, but the second floor doesn't have a private charcoal station at the tables, so the skewers come out pre-grilled. Food: good, fresh skewers; we had the lamb and beef. It was plenty of food for two people (but if you prefer to be very full you might want to order at least one other thing). One of the best late night grubs in the area. Food here definitely tastes better when you're already drunk or planning to drink there (they have soju, beer, makouli). I've been here over five times now, and what keeps me returning is the friendly service and yummy skewers. This is the BEST place for authentic Chinese lamb skewer in New York city. Their dipping seasonings is the bomb, and stays very true to the North eastern flavor of Chinese BBQ. Their lamb skewer has the perfect balance between fatty and lean meat. If you think you can handle the grill and crave lamb skewer. This is THE place for you. Im confused over the positive reviews of this place. This place has potential but the customer service was so bad. Our waiter dropped off the skewers and left without an explanation and never stopped by once. Had to get up and find someone to even pay the bill and it wasn't busy. Forget about getting a refill on the drinks or side dishes and if your fire dies out you're screwed because they wont replace the coals so cook the meat fast. Be careful not to mistake the salt with MSG in the seasoning section they are not labeled, although there are not a lot of seasoning options to begin with (cumin and red chili pepper flakes). Went on Xmas eve after a nice spa day with my wife. Our initial choice was actually the Chinese lady cart across the street from TD bank. Her skewers are fantastic, but we didn't think she'd be there and plus I had bookmarked this place so I had to give it a try. 1 star for Mediocre food and quality. We ordered gizzards,pork skin,beef intestine and beef tendons. Other than the gizzards every else seemed not fresh esp the beef intestine, had a bit of a gritty mush slighty chewy texture. I give this place a 0 star for customer service , they seated us and we had no idea about the menu or how to order, the waiter looked at us like he couldn't be bothered. Trying to stop them to get our water refilled was a hassle and forget about the beer we ordered, it never came. Then someone comes and puts down the raw meat skewers and just leaves, no explanation lolz. We eventually figure it out but the experience was horrible we felt uncomfortable dining there.
