Maybe 3.5? This was my first time eating at the shop. It's apparent that Ming's is well loved by the community. It seems to still have the original signs and seats and probably most things in this shop. Service was friendly, prompt. One of the aunties was using the phone so I couldn't pay with a card. Luckily it was one of those days I had cash. I had the maple bar (didn't have regular maple donuts) and my husband had two chocolate donuts. Both were good and in agreement with the other reviews, they were fluffy as well. The icing also didn't melt all over the place which made the donut eating experience cleaner and easier. For some reason, I decided not to order a coffee and go with the French Vanilla Cappuccino (it was one of those rare occassions...). I don't know why, but I did. I realized it wasn't my thing since it tasted like a hot marshmallow drink. Will get regular coffee next time. My husband got the regular coffee and he said it was fine. Seemed to be lots of regulars here. The lady automatically knew their orders right when they walked in! I'd like to give this place another chance, so I might be back soon. read more

I mean the overall rating for Mings speaks for itself. Do I even need to write a review? They are obviously so delicious they have 4.5 stars right now. Pretty awesome for a simple little donut shop in a shitty strip mall. But Mings is the best damn thing about that strip mall. I would know, I've been going there for damn near 28 years! Literally since I was in diapers and my dad would put me and my sister in a little red wagon and walk up to Mings on the weekends (yes, I'm serious. Thanks Dad!). Now, when I'm visiting my family in SL, I get up early to go for a run @ the Marina and stop by Mings on my way home. I've seen so many closing and grand openings of different shops in this plaza- and Ming's Donuts has gotten to be one of the strongest standings one. That should tell you something- they got some goood donuts that got people coming back for more! Reasonable pricing for their donuts and coffee. Was craving donut after a trip to the hospital so decided to stop by. We arrived at about 10:45am and the donut selection was quite limited. The maple bar and chocolate bar we ordered were generously filled and delicious. I'd say 4 stars for the quality of the donut and 3 stars for the selection (based on what I saw). I love this place. I've been searching for a doughnut shop that is just as good as the ones i go to in Fremont I think I truly found San Leandro's best shop. You must get there early. By 9 almost everything is picked over, especially on the weekend. But as long as you get up you'll have great selection with the best doughnuts - fresh , soft , and yummy! I like em all. Average at best. The donuts are cooked in older oil- you can taste it. I tried the glazed twist and the old fashioned buttermilk glazed. Both were purchased Sunday morning. The dough for the twist was spongy and slightly tough. The glaze was thin. The dough had an old oil (not extremely old) and an old bread flavor. The old fashioned donut was hard, did not taste of buttermilk, and had an odd flavor. I am always on the lookout for a good donut and this place definitely does not care about quality. I work pretty close to this place and this morning my coworker and I decided we wanted donuts. Ming's is open at 7:00 AM, which is great! I got a box of assorted donuts for $8.60 and they were all fresh and delicious. I also got a cup of coffee which was actually very good as well. The ladies working there were super friendly. Great customer service, lady and guy were very welcoming and smiling. Went around 8ish in the morning and had a variety of donuts. $9.95 for a dozen and less than $2 for a dozen donuts. Donuts taste fresh, not dry. They accept credit with $5 minimum. It's in the Marin faire plaza. And they also have a wide section of beverages and fresh coffee. I believe peets coffee. Don't live near by but worth the drive. A lot better than Rudys donut house in Castro Valley or Lee's donuts in San Leandro. Almost forgot to mention, shop is open until 3am during the week and 1am on weekends. They open at 5am. read more

I LOVE this place! I dropped by this morning around 6:30 AM because of all the yelper's recommendations here and I'm always game on traveling far and wide just to get good grub. I went in and selected a maple bar, a chocolate doughnut and a cup of coffee. There's really something to be said about a mom and pop business that has been thriving for sometime, people recommend them UNTIL you dropped by and actually experienced it yourself and that is today and all I can tell is that you NEED to taste their Maple Bar because theirs is THE BEST HANDS and PERIOD! The way they flavor theirs is that it's somewhat a bit salty mixed with the sweet coating, just like a salted caramel candy. It's the perfect combination between sweet and salty and I actually bought another maple bar because it was that good. It was a good thing that I actually controlled myself because I could have eaten 6 maple bars at the least the going home feeling very guilty. So, if you wanted the very best Maple Bars? I've been going to Ming's since I was a kid, for the last 30+ years. I grew up in the neighborhood and have since moved out. I have to say that I still haven't been able to find a doughnut comparable to the ones Ming's creates. I don't know what it is but everything is super fresh, light, doughy and so yummy! They melt in your mouth. They also make a unique doughnut - a blueberry cake doughnut that is to die for. If you haven't tried Ming's, it's a MUST. This donut gem is hidden away in the corner of San Leandro over by the water and just so happens to be right on my commute to work every day. When I am off the diet wagon and fall into my every-so-often ham n cheese croissant craze, I will stop off in the morning, order my "usual" ham n cheese croissant "heated" and medium decaf coffee for the road. There are 2 owners (sisters perhaps?) and one is nice, one is mean (not really "mean" per say, but just not very "friendly" - EVER). Regardless, they are both AWESOME. I just look at it as an extra added bonus if I can get the mean one to crack a smile and extra credit points for making her laugh. :) For a while there, they were charging me a different price every time I'd go in which I found to be hilarious, but then after their recent price hike (inflation you know - gotta keep up with the economy), they stuck with the same price every time. (perhaps it was their instinct that I was onto them) After graduating to "regular" (once again, when I'm not dieting) - I have noticed a more warm and friendly treatment and will always and forever (as long as I live in the area) buy my donuts and ham n cheese croissants HERE. Tucked away, Ming's donuts are unlike any other donut place I've ever been to. Come first thing in the morning, the donuts are warm and fresh. Mings is still the champion. I just returned from a donut tour of Portland, OR, and although one food truck was top notch, everything was based on cake donuts-excellent but limited. The best known donut shop in Portland, although very creative, can't hold a candle to Mings when it comes to clarity of flavor, correct sweetness balance and never greasy. i been coming here since the 80s when it opened,Ming starts work when we are counting zzz. I watched his family grow and now the kids are grown up he makes the best and freshest doughnuts hands down. His wife is right there beside him, when ever i bring his doughnuts somewhere im visiting people say where did you get these and i say mings of san leandro.
