The man who owns this joint caters to my work with a cart full of food. He prepares and delivers all the goodness himself and I must say it is absolutely delicious!! He usually brings carne asada, enchiladas, corn and flour tortillas, chicken, beef and carnitas for tacos along with fresh vegetables for salad. Oh yeah chips and salsa as well! Mini Café is a small mom & pop, sort of greasy spoon, place in a unassuming strip mall in Santa Ana (I thought it was in Tustin but you all know my 'creating' sense of direction). 4 stars for convenience and price. and I highlight the convenience part because is literally next door of one of my favorite dives: The glorious Fling. I have been there more than once getting tacos before to The Fling. Cool plan and super cheap. Perfect for a recessionista like myself. Mini Cafe has pretty decent tacos, I know that for a fact, but heard people praising their breakfast as well as the grinders. I'll let good you guys know when I try them. so if everything is so great why 4 stars? Well... their schedule is not so great but it's pretty understandable being a mom and pop shop. Yes they have great prices, but all the surrounding taquerias have great prices as well. Maybe the key word here is convenience, that's what keeps me going there. I've been coming here for years. Family operated and a really good, inexpensive place. Almost everything is between $4 and $6. A few shrimp dishes might be $7. They have all sorts of Mexican and American food and will make you pretty much anything you want. Also, breakfast is really good and about $4 for an eggs with potatoes, bacon and toast. I started bringing me co-workers here a few years ago from Irvine and they all loved it. Where else can you get a nice meal for like $5? Even McDonalds is like $7.50 now and Mini Cafe is WAY better. Very solid chorizo breakfast burrito. I generally don't care for most Mexican chorizo (as opposed to Spanish chorizo) because it's consistency is too watery or greasy. I do love Spanish chorizo which has the same paprika-laden tastiness, but is a drier sausage, often in a casing. I understand that many people enjoy Mexican chorizo *because* of its greasiness but I find it kind if off putting when my eggs are indelibly stained orange by the grease from the chorizo. Enter Mini Cafe's bfast burro. The chorizo is there, the paprika flavor, with a decent char, a little bit in every bite. But the eggs are not stained orange by that weird fatty sludge that seems to come out of most chorizos. It still has the perfect melding of all of the right ingredients. Practically every bite treats you to fluffy eggs, melted cheese, perfectly cooked crispy potatoes, salsa and the flavorful but not greasy chorizo, all bound together by the chewy tortilla. I like how the chorizo holds its own, adding a layer of flavor without becoming something entirely different when blended with the other ingredients (i.e., the orange sludgy eggs effect). I admit it's kinda' overthinking things for a person to put so much thought into the ingredients in a bfast burrito. Especially since it's all essentially going to end up in the same place (my gullet). But considering the contents, this burrito was surprisingly not greasy, which was a big plus for me. Their homemade salsa is solid, with roasted peppers and tomatoes. The folks running the place were friendly and hardworking. The restaurant itself is fairly nondescript, surprisingly crowded at opening time on a Friday morning. It's also a small space with fairly limited seating. I ordered to go and it was ready in about ten minutes. Like the space in which it sits, the menu seems fairly limited. But use your imagination or ask them for some recommendations (they also have a daily specials board) because they will make you basically anything you want if they have the ingredients. In fact, I'm not sure the menu even offered a chorizo breakfast burrito, but I knew from other reviews it was available. I'm really looking forward to trying the chilaquiles. read more

I was on the search for a cheap, fast, and good breakfast place around. Thanks to Yelp, I found this place. It's definitely a little hole in the wall place. It's very small on the corner of the Stater Bros. parking. My husband and I walked in, I ordered the chilaquiles plate and asked for a side of just one French Toast. The girl ringing me up advised me they had no more bread for the French toast... So I said, ok no problem. My husband ordered the breakfast plate (egg, sausage, pancake). When we sat down to wait for our food, we noticed at least 20 bags of bread on the shelf... ?!? Wait a minute... I thought they were out of bread. Anyways, back to the food. Our total was $9.97, not bad. My chilaquiles came with beans and potatoes. We pleasantly surprised at how good the place was. We will definitely be back for more. read more

We paid $15 for two people and were stuffed to the brim. After the Disneyland half marathon, all my BF and I wanted to do was to eat a quick breakfast and get back to our hotel room to shower. This place is a little Mexican hole in the wall that serves cheap, but yummy food. It's kind of sticky and dirty but once you get past that you'll see the awesomeness of their breakfast burrito in front of you. It's not OMG fancy brunch, nor the best breakfast I've had. The breakfast here is great, they have a large variety; I would recommend getting the chilaquiles they are very crispy and come with a side of beans and potatoes. The staff is friendly and quickly keep the place clean and tables clear for new customers. You can tell this place is family owned and it shows with the great quality food at a very affordable price. I had forgotten about this place until a few days ago. I used to live right around the corner and ate here 3-4 times a week. The family is really friendly. They will make stuff that's not on the menu, just ask them. You can get an order of the carne asada nachos - huge serving with yummy homemade salsa - for $3.80!!! That's insane... Del Taco charges more for their crappy imitation meat nachos. I've also had tacos, enchiladas and taquitos here - everything has been great. read more

What a disappointment. We got breakfast here and it was pretty underwhelming. We ordered two omelettes and nachos; the omelettes were leathery and spongy and dry. The potatoes tasted frozen and had no salt or flavor. The nachos had no cheese and were virtually speckled with beans. It was really sad because we were craving good yummy food. I love going to Mini Cafe. It is very obviously a mom and pop shop. The food is good and is priced well. There is very little decor/atmosphere, but that's fine--it just feels right, somehow. The Mexican food is pretty good, though I have found their salsa to be a little bland. Lately I keep it simple and get the burger, fries, and drink deal for $4.50.
