I tried the sloppy Zack sandwich and was pretty impressed. The chicken was crispy and crunchy and delicious and the combination of the ingredients were excellent. I was led to believe that the sandwich would be sloppy with sauce and that wasn't the case. It could've actually had some more sauce. I'm not a big fan of the self-serve kiosks for Ordering. I had to stand there like a moron before someone came and helped me order. So I'm not a big fan of the experience. The space is shared with another restaurant, which is cool because it gives you a secondary choice in that same location. TL:Dr... If you like a well-put-together chicken burger, and you do not care for spice, you'll likely love Zach's Chicken. If, however, like me, you crave a solid burn from your sando and / or appreciate decent service, this spot is going to disappoint. I visited for dinner on a Sunday evening with my partner. The location was quiet in numbers but loud in music, to the point that it almost intruded on conversation. Ordering is via tablets mounted on the wall, and so staff interaction is minimal. I placed my order, and awaited the Toast-app notification that it was ready, but before I could get up to the counter they gave my food away to somebody else in error. Sed person returned it after taking it to their table (of children) and I was still expected to take it myself and eat it. No apology, indeed no words at all other than a questioned announcing of my name, was made by the staff. I tried the Sloppy Zach and Cool Zach fried chicken burgers, both supposedly at the hottest 'crazy' level of spice. After a few bites of each, I genuinely couldn't figure out if my order had been prepared incorrectly, as no heat seemed to be present. To settle the matter I ordered a 'bomb fries' at the same spice level, and again it had no kick at all. After my earlier lack of interaction, I saw no point in asking anyone. Spice issues aside, both burgers were actually pretty great, well cooked and with tasty fresh greenery. If I'd ordered a mild or low heat sando I'd have been very happy, and I might go back for one if that's what I'm fancying. I wouldn't recommend or repeat the bomb fries though, as the actual fry quantity was low and a bit lost under the tenders and cheese. read more

The bomb fries are a must. Not only will you feel fulfilled, but you will also be satisfied! The servers are diligent and good at explaining what I'm getting, as well as what else is good. I would recommend the chicken sandwich, however it still leaves you wanting more because it isn't as fulfilling as the "fries bomb." As someone who's stopped by Zach's Chicken several times, I have to say it's become a go-to spot for solid, flavorful fried chicken without breaking the bank. Located in a strip mall that is not too busy. It shares the same space as Pita Pita. The inside is modern and clean and it seems that both restaurants are efficiently run. I usually get the chicken wrap which is like the McDonalds snack wrap but hugee and tastes 100 times better too. Order was ready on time which I appreciate. Parking is plentiful also read more

It's shame I have to update my review of Zach's chicken. The pain is similar to being a Disney or Nintendo fan and recognizing the greed and lack of respect for their customers as the rose colored glasses fade away. For the last few months Zach's has been on a steady decline all acclimating in my most recent experience on 9/1/2025. As per usual an iPad takes your order. I tried to order at the register before and was redirected to the glowing screen. As per usual it ask for a 20% tip. Whatever I'm here for the food not the service. As long as I get my food I'll be happy..... they forgot my girlfriend's order. She had to come up and ask for her food which was ready they just never called the order. At this point both our sandwiches are less than fresh but I can over look that, the women running the "customer service" i dont know what she does since she doesn't take orders and forgets to call them out when they're ready is behind the counter shooting the shit. I can overlook that too. WHAT I CANNOT OVERLOOK is the god awful, food poisoning this meal gave me and my girlfriend. It's a damn shame I used to like Zach's chicken. Stopped for a quick lunch. Ordered a Zach's Original on a brioche bun, at heat 3 (out of 4). I asked if they had coleslaw, said "yes", so I ordered that too. Turned out it's "kaleskaw", not coleslaw. The two tenders on the sandwich were thick, juicy, and tasty; heat level of 3 was actually pretty tame. This place is kind of a regular(ish) stop for me when we want non Asian fried chicken. The chicken tender is perfectly crispy while still being juicy.my husband wishes they'd have legs and thighs like Hotties in Orange but I'm fine with the tenders. The fries are always crispy and the kale salad is a bit overdressed but still really tasty! The Brioche bread is good but a little on the hard side. Maybe it's because we get it to go? The food is truly great, the chicken is juicy, flavorful with its spices and crunchy with its flaky texture, it's one of the best fried chicken spots in the OC, besides the chicken all their sides are just as great, fries are crispy and spiced perfectly, coleslaw has a middle eastern turn to it but is just as good as any. This location in Zach's Chicken shares a dinning room with a Pita place. The Zach's Chicken kiosk has a couple of tablets to place orders. It's a pretty efficient system. But if you need help the kitchen staff can help you out. Even with a lunch rush, they get food out to you in about 15 minutes or so. The chicken is very tender. I do regret adding the spice because all they do is dip the chicken in unflavored chili oil. Is recommend just get the chicken plain. It's probably better. The chicken is very tender. I never would've come across this place if it hadn't been for Yelp, as I'm rarely in this area. They're located in the Plaza del Lago shopping plaza off of Lake Forest Dr and Research. They share a space with Pita Pita. There are lots of tables inside and quite a few outside as well. Plenty of parking is available in the shared lot. I was craving a chicken sandwich and since I had never been to Zach's and they had good reviews, I thought I'd give them a try. Upon arrival, I was surprised to find a self-order kiosk. I had a question about how spicy one of the sauces was, and I had to wait until someone from the back was in eye's view so I could flag them down. I thought the whole self-kiosk thing was a turn-off, as there's no one in the front to greet you or to answer any questions you may have. I ordered Zach's Original sandwich for $8.95 and a side of fries for $3.50 to go. The description for the sandwich read: Chicken Tenders, Pickles with Zach's Sauce. You can select your spice level: easy, risky or crazy hot. I selected "easy" since the employee told me that there's a little spice to it. I'm here to tell you that there is no spice whatsoever. I wish I would've gotten "risky". The brioche bun was soft. The 2 chicken tenders inside the sandwich were plump, big and crispy, but tasteless. I think a little spice would've added to it. The pickles and sauce were on the bottom of the bun but the tenders were so big that you could barely taste anything else. The fries were decent - it had some flavor to them. I came for the crispy chicken (which was solid--hot, crunchy, well-seasoned), but stayed for... a surprise jaw workout courtesy of the kale salad. Look, I'm all for eating healthy, but if you're going to serve kale, please do your diners a favor and de-stem it properly. The stems were tough, fibrous, and basically inedible felt like chewing on small tree branches. The salad could've been a great counterbalance to the fried goodness, but instead, it ended up feeling like an afterthought. A little more care in prep would go a long way. New fried chicken place? Yes please! We placed a takeout order for The Happy Zach, Zach's Original, The Kool Zach, The Sloppy Zach, two sides of fries, and a chocolate chip cookie. We were given a delivery window, but showed up 15min early because we were in the area and wanted to check in. Our order was already ready and bagged - I'm not sure that was a good thing. Yes, it was quick, but we didn't receive updates on the order - if we showed up at the earliest time in our window, our food would have already been sitting for at least 15min. At the latest, 45min. When was our food made? When we tried the food, it tasted like it was made even earlier. Fries were stale and soggy. Sandwiches were warm and the chicken was good, though slightly dry. I loved the brioche bun - so soft! Pickles were a nice touch. I tried the Risky level of spice - it wasn't that spicy. I should have probably gone for the Crazy Hot. Cookie was alright. I was still hungry after the meal. Overall a decent enough meal. But at over $70 including tip, I didn't think it was worth it. If someone were to gift me a meal from here, I wouldn't be upset. The chicken here is one of the most flavorful chicken I've had in a fast causal business for food. I was pleasantly surprised how tasty the sandwiches or wraps are. My personal favorite is the wraps. You get the chicken either fried or grilled- both are tasty just depends what you're looking for. You can control the level hot as well and if you want you can also add fries inside. I would say this is on the heavier side and not super light- but again depends what you're looking for. Their sauces are good even though I'm not much of a sauce guy. The service is pretty speedy and efficient. My only complaint is the portions are a little on the smaller side for my liking- but for restaurants you rarely get both high value of flavor with food and the optimal amount of food portion. This could also be just me. If you're looking for a chicken spot give this place a shot. read more

Zach's chicken is in a league of its own. Crispy outside batter, juicy chicken inside, & great flavor overall. First timer so I did level 1 spiciness, next time I'll try level 2 since I love a nice heat but the best way to describe it, some what very familiar to old bay seasoning but definitely with a nicer touch of heat rather than salt(like old bay). To compare Zach's to something like Dave's or canes feels like an insult so that is why I say they are in a league of their own. Also Zach's is literally the first fast casual place that gets breading & frying correctly; it's not soggy or falls apart so easily like the aforementioned. Also the quality of chicken is just wow. Not sure if they clean/trim their own chicken or if it's their purveyor but props to Zach's & their team! Nice spacious dining area, they have the iPad for ordering too which was nice. Hot and New chicken sando spot in the Irvine area! Came across this place while having lunch at Pita Pita which conveniently shares a kitchen. The ordering system was simple and easy to use! Orders came out quick as we came at 7:30pm so it was basically empty. I can imagine it being pretty busy during lunch time with many business offices nearby. We both got the sloppy Zach's which has pickles and coleslaw. Heat level was an Easy and Medium (forgot the name). It's honestly not spicy at all and more so differs in seasoning. The easy was a simple chicken sandwich and the medium had some chili oil that had some flavoring to it, but not hot. Chicken was crisp and very juicy, if you're a saucy person, would recommend to order some sides. Unfortunately, they do charge $.50 for each additional sauce that you add on at the kiosk. Fries were crispy and seasoned! Reminds me of BK fries (IYKYK), but better since they're crispier. We also tried the chocolate cookies which are probably not house made.
